Extremely expensive and below average food. City road has a lot of Indian/desi food restaurants with better taste and half of price. Owner lady is extremely rude and arrogant. Order arrived extremely late and the staff behaves like they are giving you free food and you are not paying anything. I don't know why this place is overhyped. Please don't go if you don't want your day to be ruined. Lastly almost every Indian restaurant offers at least 10 % student discount. When asked about the student discount the owner lady said, we like to add-on bill if you want to pay more than ask only.

Not worth for 1 star. Rude staff, tasteless food. I will never recommend this restaurant.

A nice interior but well below average food in small portions priced very high. Ridiculous mark ups on the drinks. The service was poor and unfriendly. Avoid, there are loads of better places near by.

Lovely range of dishes and a great vegetarian selection, warning though, it's all quite spicy. Only downside was they only accept cash on Sundays, which is odd as they accept card the rest of the week. The Peshawari Naan was the best I've ever had, but the paneer masala lacked something. The mango lassy was very tasty though

Brilliant curry - couldn’t fault it

This is a pathetic place. Apparently, you have to order separate main course for each person? What stupid rule is that? They charge like 18 pounds+ for each dish and say the portion is small? Then what for are you taking 18 pounds? The waiter was a dimwit and had attitude. When we said we will have starters and drinks and then main course, they said they do not serve only starters. To hell with your restaurant. Hope you guys close down soon and learn a lesson. Wannabe "delhi" restaurant it is. I would never recommend such a pathetic place to anyone.

I'm not a person who gives out reviews mostly. Honestly this was the worst place i've been to that too with my family. The waiter was so rude in front of other guests as well, as he owned the place. We had no choice but to walk out and the food felt so disrespectful, so looked down upon by the bi@£; a@@ owner. Never ever going back there. She literally followed us while we left the place and gave a nasty look. Like the karens' but for real.

Had the lamb vin d'alho and my wife had butter chicken. Very tasty and different to the usual run of the mill dishes of this type... amazing flavours! Will definitely go back

This came well recommended. Good service, but to be honest I’m always a bit suss when there are two different textures to the chunks of meat inside the sauce. And the sauce was a bit claggy to be honest.

Two diners, one vegan, one not. Both catered for. Good food, well prepared. It's worth mentioning that it's cash only on a Sunday. We were warned when we ordered, so no problem. I'm from North West England, so some things were unfamiliar. The poppadoms came already broken into pieces, and there were only three chutneys. Up north we're used to unbroken poppadoms and five chutneys. The other minor quibble was no-one was able to make any of the cocktails on the menu, but again that was because it was a Sunday. Plenty of other options, so not a major problem. A good selection of beers and lagers available.

Overpriced food, got 4 pieces of chicken per curry. Awful atmosphere with staff running upstairs and all over the restaurant, whispering. And another very stern member of staff put us off going completely. Drinks took 20+ minutes to come each time. Got starters before drinks. Very strange atmosphere. Would avoid!

Great food. I think there were some new staff members on the day so service was a bit below par and it was quiet so not much atmosphere. We had to move tables due to smell of cannabis wafting in from the street outside, but they happily accommodated us.

The worst place you can go in wales for trying indian cuisine …the attitude that these guys reflect shames Indians like me to.I don’t know how they manage to run the business with this attitude..checking all the negative comments Iam sorry for all who have tried here. They lack the basics.

Such a shame. This was previously my favourite Indian Restaurant in Cardiff. However, the last two orders that I've made have been wrong. This place is not cheap and two poppadoms and a selection of chutneys (2x mint and 2x pickle) can set you back nearly a fiver. When this is wrong, it's just not worth making a fuss or calling back the driver but it always puts a dampener on the meal. See the image below, this cost me £5 and the chutneys were a completely wrong selection and one small poppadom. Sit in, do NOT order takeaway. They don't care about delivery.

Starters were average with very small portions but mains were good. Service okay and taste was as you’d expect from Indian restaurants in the UK.

I came for a meal before the cinema yesterday with my friend. I would 100% recommend, it’s such a lovely place. The service is excellent and they are so friendly. The hot towels after the meal are a lovely addition too. The meal itself was really flavourful. I’m a vegetarian and they have loads of options including the meat mains with a vegetarian alternative; it’s so nice to have plenty to choose from and not miss out. Our meals were delicious and the naan was really fresh. I would definitely recommend visiting!

Lovely staff and great food. Restaurant is cosy and you're made to feel welcome as soon as you walk in. Staff can't do enough to help you. Also excellent value for money considering the great service and food you get.

I saw some bad reviews on this restaurant but I never believe until I try it myself, I found the food incredible, the location is amazing, and staff were also amazing. Looking forward to my next visit, I strongly recommend the 2 dishes I tried, Chicken Chettinadu and the soft shell grabs

I was very hungry 10pm and a nice lady let me order when they closed. I was not expecting much because the hour but they treat me very well and the food was nice too. All the place where closed but they save the day.

Lovely food and service too- I’ve no idea why there are such horrible reviews for this place - presumably some kind of personal reasons from competition perhaps? From the moment I arrived (I’m on a work trip) I was made to feel very welcome and looked after. The food was also lovely . I would definitely recommend.

Staff who is picking the call do not know how to talk to the costumer. Rude , wrong attitude towards the customers. 0 star to the restaurant.

Food was bland and the service was poor. Portion size was really small. They didn’t take reservations on call and we had to wait for 1hour 20 minutes just for the table. Won’t recommend anyone going there. The lady there was really rude.

Was hoping for a delightful meal before the theatre but got an OK meal. The lamb shank may have been slow cooked but it was as dry as the bone it didn't fall off. We didn't stop for desert.

The worst biryani I have ever had. Absolutely disgusting!! We got 2 biryanis and the person was like it will be spicy and enough for 4 people but it wasn't enough for even 2. To be very honest it was just plain rice with chicken curry. If there was an option to give 0 stars, I would have rated that.

Disgusted. 1st time ordered. To pick up, to have it fresh. New to Cardiff Bay and come on… £35, they missed my Nan bread and pls look at the 5 bits of chicken at £12.50. I emailed immediately and then sent a video and no response… and no nan bread. Beef was nice, but the Goan chicken like in a can tomato soup with 2 onions and started was like a half portion. No. Never again. Awful…

Worst hospitality, poor service, We feel biased judged.

I went this place with my family to celebrate dads birthday. The desk officer and a lady who seem to look like owner / manager made my dad feel like we shouldnot be in the place.she made us feel like we should see the menu first before entering. She was very rude and racist. The food was horrible. I never had such a worst hospitality in my life . Such a racist place

We were in cardiff this week so me and my wife decided on a indian meal 😋 what a surprise food was aboustly fantastic great service lovely friendly staff will definitely go back soon.

I went to this restaurant today with my friends to have some Indian flavours and we ordered chicken biryani for our main course and it is not even 1%biryani it’s just chicken curry with rice and we are so dissatisfied with it.

Not only were their missing items which meant I had to go out and purchase sundries like Naan, the food that did arrive was dry, overcooked and missing vital components like the taramind chutney for the calamari. In the strongest possible terms avoid. For the price they charge its obscene, especially when only a partial refund is avaliable despite missing options. The worst Indian in Cardiff and I've tried most of them. At least they get your order right and it's not dried out and disgusting. .

Absolutely DISGUSTING and HOPELESS. I have never given in my life any reviews to any restaurant. First time I am forced to give a review. Honestly, it does not deserve even 1 star rating. It is a warning for all. If you are looking for Indian foods, pl sincerely avoid this restaurant. In the name of Indian foods they bring disrepute to Indian dish. I realised they are Bangladeshi , the lady in the front desk acknowledged . While placing the order , asked about Hydrabadi biriani, the lady told it is proper dum biriani. However, shocked to find when served with some steamed rice with a portion of fried chicken on the top separate and they claim it is Hyderabadi biriani. I politely asked the lady who took the order and why she mislead us. She told us , this is what they prepare in Bangladesh. I advised the lady to out the name as Dhaka biriani or Bangladesh Hyderbadi biriani so that people will know before they order. This is not the only terrible experience we had. The staff should learn how to serve food and deal with customers. They should not serve food by passing the food over the barrier into the table. I have gone several Indian restaurants all over UK and Europe. In some cases food was not upto expectations. But I did not have bad experience as this restaurant that forced me to write a review. None of the food was OK. Worst is that the lady that took the order mislead us. Waste of money we spent more than £100just for 3 persons including one kid. AVOID AT ANY COST .

I've been here a few times over the years. This time with a large family party. Food was enjoyable and had good variety. Staff were very accommodating, served us promptly and were friendly. Prices are good no doubt I will continue coming here in the future

Absolutely horrendous restaurant

The elephant in the room with the Duchess of Delhi is that it is a little pricier than your usual Indian restaurant. However, after eating here for the first time I can safely say that it was well worth the money - the food is delicious and the service is impeccable. I can’t wait for my next visit here as no other Indian meal I’ve eaten in South Wales comes close.

It is an amazing restaurant with fantastic staff. Can't wait to go back again.

eek. i have no idea how this restaurant got best asian restaurant of the year (?). the food was bland, the only flavour they used was chilli. i have quite a high spice intolerance but the food was far to spicy… especially the chicken tikka masala which is meant to be sweet. the portions were small and overpriced. if you want indian food there are hundreds of better places. don’t waste your money or time here.

Disappointing. Food was below average, service wasn’t great, the waiters seemed to not know what they were serving let alone what they were doing. They didn’t set anything down on the table but rather threw them onto it. One of the waiters knocked over my naan and didn’t even apologize. The starters were awful and truly overpriced. We had the veggie trio and the aloo tikki was cold!! It was barely thawed from the freezer and not cooked through that it was cold! The mains were subpar at best. All the sauces tasted premade. The butter chicken tasted of nothing but green chilis. The goan fish curry was probably the best of the worst. The lamb passanda was flavorless and honestly speaking, disgusting.

The food itself is great, and the atmosphere is nice. But service is slow, the restaurant is cramped, and it is expensive.

A great traditional curry house with a good range of modern dishes as well as the classics. Friendly service and the food was fantastic.

Absolutely awfull food, the curry had the same taste and consistency as boiled kettle water and the chicken was dry. The prices are expensive and the portions are small. I would go as far as saying its the worse Indian food I've had... Ever!!

Awful. 3 mains. Runny sauce, korma like soup, no depth of flavour to any of the sauces. Worst curry we've ever had. Madras was reasonable. Never again.

What a great place! We visited the city for two nights and ate here both nights. The food was delicious. The staff were lovely and welcoming. Had we lived here, we would have come here all the time.

Arrived late, was asked if I was drunk (I wasn’t) sat and ate a very average Jalfrezi, with hard rice. When asked I mentioned the rice, said they would take off the bill, they didn’t. Wouldn’t recommend

If you love excellent food and enjoy the warmest hospitality and yet you have never visited the Duchess of Delhi then you are missing a dining experience. I have tried more dishes here than any restaurant I have ever been to and never been disappointed. There is a passion about the food that translates into the quality and presentation. As well as wonderful food this family run restaurant never fails to make you feel welcome and special. I have introduced many friends to the delights of this well run and friendly restaurant and all have wanted to return. It is also well located in Cardiff Bay. My thanks to all in the Duchess of Delhi for making every evening memorable and look forward to all future visits. Thank you and best wishes.

Went for dinner after a day out in Cardiff, great tasty dishes.

Very overpriced and average quality food. Came to £45 a head for a starter, main, rice and poppadoms to start, with a pint or two each. A group of 8 of us and some of the curries were lacking in flavour and a bit watery. Starters particularly dear for what you get. Also some strange policy on Sundays where they only take cash, albeit they let some people pay by card. Won’t be coming back…

Over priced food. Do not go there if you are hungry or have plans for the evening. Took atleast 60 mins for our first dish to arrive and didn't even taste decent.. The only good part was some of the rotis were authentic..

Came here for dinner on a Saturday evening, around 8pm. I called beforehand to see if they could fit us in on late notice and they said it would be no problem for us to come without a booking. Great for us, but equally a red flag as what restaurant with such great reviews would have space for walk ins on a Saturday night? Hmm. Service was quick and all the staff were pleasant, however they forgot some basic things when we asked for them which was quite annoying. I ordered the mango chicken which, to my disappointment, tasted absolutely nothing like mango. I would have sent it back but I was so hungry I couldn't be bothered with the fuss of ordering something else and waiting longer. My other half's meal was similar too. Basically if you like excessive amounts of coriander and spice with not much depth of flavour, then come here. Also, it is wildly over priced for the quality of the food we received. Won't be coming here again.
