I visit the pub on a regular basis, I have never had a bad experience. All of the staff are friendly and always provide a good service. Since the reopening due to the pandemic the management and all staff have done a fantastic job keeping the pub safe. I will always continue to give them my custom.

Brilliant food! Brilliant service! Staff are brilliant at their jobs and are always smiling!The menu is the best pub menu I have ever seen! Martin is easily the best bar manager in town, he’s very helpful and is their for anything we need!The pub also keeps up with covid requirements and I feel safe when I fancy a meal out! Came in with my partner to get some food and the service I received was outstanding food was amazing thanks to the chef, Georgia my server was brilliant lovely polite young lady and she is very knowledgable in what they serve and helped in guidance with the new rules everyone in the pub was very friendly and would highly recommend

I had the best service from Jake and Arthur and the manager Martin and tye . Jake dealt with the rude customers so professionally as they kept bothering us. I’m so happy with the service they truly deserve a pat on the back!

Came in with 4 friends we were greeted at the door by a friendly helpful doorman called zed I believe, Leo came to the table he talked me through how to use the app, we ordered he brought our drinks to the table the price was amazing and the overall atmosphere was bubbly and happy, all staff made us feel welcome, we haven't laughed that much in a while,Thank you for great service Leo we will be returning very soon

Visited with a couple work friends. Was surprised with how safe I felt as nowhere else in Colchester has really compared. Fast and efficient table service, PPE worn by all members of staff, and tables/surfaces being cleaned all the time. Thank you guys for keeping us safe, and we will be back soon providing Boris doesn’t shut the pubs down again!

Visited while out for a trip in Colchester, great pub looks to be recently refurbished, all very clean and felt safe with good COVID procedures in place and the team were all very attentive. Tried their Katsu Chicken Burger, was delicious! Will be back when I’m next in Colchester!

Lovely pub, great atmosphere and staff. Regularly visit by myself and with my girlfriend. The manager and assistant manager are lovely, as well as zed, leo, and the bloke with the long ponytail!

I came to the Camulodunum with my husband and daughter and we felt very safe and had such an enjoyable visit. The staff were excellent and very helpful and friendly! Would highly recommend!

Popped in today to find a wide menu and great selection behind the bar. Pool, arrows, and sky sports aree all there to enjoy the time. Covid check in was a time consuming but thorough.

Great atmosphere, music, food,lighting and most of all Tyrone the assistant manager such great table service from a manger you least expect... Been to many bars/restaurants in Colchester (I'm not an alcoholic) but an assistant manager Doing all the work? Very rare...... This venue is a must visit in Colchester......

I went to the pub for my first post lock down beer after a long day at my salon, I was greeted by a dashing young man I believe named Tyrone who found me a table and explained how to order using the new app, this was great I could sit relaxed and order a drink and food without getting up and queuing, everything I ordered was brought to my table promptly and all the staff were very pleasant. I would recommend great little pub and friendly!!!!!

I visited the pub last night and was served by a young girl called samantha, she was friendly and very professional she made me and my friends feel comfortable straight away! The pub was well organised and stuck to the current government guidance. Very enjoyable evening! Thank you!

I went to the Cam for a few drinks with my mates, and even though it was extremely busy, Zed found me and my friends (8) a table to sit at whilst following the gov guidelines! I felt safe and was able to enjoy my night out! Highly recommend, will be definitely revisiting! Big shoutouts to there highly welcoming staff Samantha, Kellen, Zed, Aruther and Martin! I went to this pub after visiting a number pubs in Colchester and I have to say excellent in every way good menu price decent price of a San Miguel £ 3.49 and a excellent pint staff friendly would recommend to anyone

I held an informal business meeting at this venue. The site is known for a great nightlife and as a daytime venue, for lunch. The menu has something for everyone.I had a Salted Beef Burger. Service was fast and efficient and the food was excellent. The burger was constructed well and didn’t fall apart. The fries generous and tasty. I was served by the General Manager and Assistant Manager and both asked me if I enjoyed my meal.Thank you Camulodunum. I will come again!

Amazing and staff made it a memorable time, loving the Newley refurbed establishment. So glad that we came as Martin the Manager made us feel welcome and advised us on the great selection of food and beverages on offer.

It is with great regret that i have to write this review. As a customer of your public house for a few years now i regret to inform you that certain members of your staff are rude, inappropriate, badly dressed and in poor hygiene.On this occasion i visited with my elderly grandparents which is the place they suggested(both in there 80s) recommended by there friends we were greeted by a young lady with what i can only describe as a rude non intrested attitude she payed more interest to what i believe is the bar manager (Martin) flirting and engaging in behavior which should not be avalible for customers to view she served our drinks no please or thank you. We sat at the back of public house in full view of behind the bar action of the bar manager and the rude lady with dread locks, i have never seen such inappropriate behaviour in a public place my grandparents were horrified kissing groping in full view surely this kind of show should not be allowed???? I shall also be writing to green king as what a shame i cannot fault any of the other staff kind polite and always a friendly smile but if you continue to let this sort of shenanigans go on behinde the bar i do think many customers will be offended RegardsC

lovely pub, friendly staff right on the High Street. We had a nice meal, 2 of us had lasagne and 1 had mac and cheese. Came promptly, very tasty, garlic bread was sublime

Visited for some lunch on a Saturday. Typical Greene King menu with all the pub classics. We ordered at the bar and food came promptly and tasted great. I would recommend if you want a nice meal quickly

Was visiting friends in Colchester and popped in here for a drink and some lunch. Was very pleased with our meal and would come back. Service was great and barmaid Lisa was very helpful.

Ate here with my partner before going to the Arts Centre for a concert, having been here before we thought it was a safe bet for a good value dinner in the town centre. When we arrived we saw that the decor has got really shabby with some of the seats having huge rips in & it didn't look that clean. We ordered the burger & drink combination; when it arrived we noticed that the portions were a lot smaller than our last visit a few months ago, the portion of onion rings we'd ordered had been forgotten (so had to go back & ask for them). My veggie burger was over cooked & we noticed that they should have come with a salad garnish which they did not. Nowhere on display is a full bar tariff so i got a rather nasty shock when I ordered a measure of gin & it cost nearly £5 (same in my local costs £2.60!!!). Overall we were rather disapointed as it seems to have gone downhill & I don't think we will go back.

This was our first time visiting the pub and we had a very warm welcome from two ladies Kirsty and lisa. They were both very polite and happy with the service provided by both of them. My friends and I came to the duchess to watch the football, from the moment we walked in Tyrone made us feel welcome and gave us excellent customer service! The atmosphere was great! We’ll definitely be coming back again and would recommend the duchess to anyone wanting either a nice family afternoon or a drink out with friends for the football or just to socialise.

On Monday 11th of March myself and my Husband got married and came to the duchess with our guest for a few drinks and lunch, as we weren’t having a big reception. The service was spot on, although they had a lot of people ordering food they kept up with service and was very reliable, food was amazing and all in all a very friendly and welcoming pub, a credit to the town, nice to have somewhere to go and have a nice lunch and catch here and then Thank you Duchess for your service and being a great host, all guest agreed with us it was a lovely afternoon.

A older pub with a great atmosphere food is great staff friendly they show most sports and do something the last weekend of the month does need a upgrade on furniture but still a nice place

A dirty, run down dive of a pub that Greene King should be embarrassed to put their name to. I ordered a glass of red wine, barmaid poured one that clearly wasn't what I asked for, and put it in front of me with out saying a word. As the original one i ordered was quite expensive, I double checked with her which one it was. She then had to go and check how much it actually was. Would have been better service if she let me know that one wasn't available, and asked if I had a second choice, rather than just choosing for me. The place really needs a refurb - dirty, tatty seating. Won't be going back.

Me and my girlfriend visited for food here and weren’t impressed by any of the workers customer service. Staff seemed unapproachable and we were made to feel uncomfortable, especially by the chef who arrived with our food, didn’t say a single word to us and gave us the filthiest of looks.

This is the first time in a long while that we have visited this venue. It is very full on but very friendly. There is a section at the rear with pool table and TV showing sport. Fortunately, this did not distract us from our main goal of having a meal. The food was good as was the wine and it was all at a very reasonable price.

The decor needs updating, but the food was lovely I have food intolerances and I had no trouble getting things swapped to suit my needs.

Met up with some friends last week. The pub has a great choice of food and drinks and the team were very friendly. Great atmosphere for the football later on in the evening as well, Will be visiting again in the New Year.

Had a fantastic Christmas party the food was amazing the service was exceptional and the team were really upbeat and happy in the festive mood, we will be booking again next year. I would also mention I have visited this pub many times over the years and this year there have been some big improvements which I believe is due to the Manager Martin turning the pub round to be more inviting for all to enjoy.

I come here often with my family the food is always good and they have an activity area with colouring and board games to keep the kids occupied. Staff are very nice and helpful and always smiling which is good to see even when busy.

First time visit great pub bigger than it actually looks. Great selection of beers at great prices, staff were really polite and helpful. Wouldn't usually frequent this pub but gave it a go for the pool table. Put in a deposit for the cues and despite one being faulty we carried on. When returning the cue in its existing state we were met by something out of a soap opera. The barman red in the face with anger, swearing and threatening when trying to merely question the legitimacy of their claim. Treat this pub as rented accommodation and do full inventory check before touching any of the fixtures. In fact stay well clear unless you fancy meeting a barman that has clearly punched his way through life.

Called in for a pint early Saturday evening

We have eaten here countless times before & always found the food to be pretty good. Decided to eat Sunday Roast here & really wished we hadn't. Beef was appalling, came out cold so I sent it back. Roast potatoes were like bullets & carrots looked like they'd seen better days. I did complain, something I do very rarely to be truthful, but I think £11 for a roast dinner when it's so poorly done is a real cheek!! We won't be returning for some time & certainly not for Sunday dinner.

Always pay a visit to this pub when I'm in Colchester town centre. Great staff, good friendly atmosphere.

In the Duchess Saturday Afternoon with the Mrs whilst out shopping. Only popped in for a Quick Drink to refuel, I got talking to a guy I believe was Martin, we think the Manager and he was just a very nice genuine bloke very helpful and upbeat, it's Always nice to receive excellent customer service. My Mrs is now going back to see him next week to book her work Christmas party as we loved the service we received and also unbeatable prices.

I nearly always end up in this pub when i go out at night in Colchester,i find this the most relaxing pub in town,it does have a pleasent and friendly atmosphere yet relaxing to have a quiet chat with who ever you are with.It is suitable for all ages and has a good seating area at the front of the pub which unfortunately i couldnt use last night because of heavy rain.We had two bottles of Echo Falls wine chardonnay which was at a great price of £6.99 per bottle the other option at this price was Blossom Hill Rose.They also sell finer wines for the more choosier customer.I have always had a nice relaxing evening when ever i have come to this pub.The food is quite good also.and well priced.If your looking for a night out for a quiet chat and relaxing atmopshere then this is the place for you although on some nights they have live bands which i havent tried yet but have heard are very entertaining and a lot of fun

My mum and I stopped here for lunch on Saturday. Firstly we waited nearly an hour for sandwich and chips and then when it finally arrived not only was the sandwich made by COMPLETELY stale bread that should have been binned days ago, we found a cooked fly in our chips! When we complained the manager was extremely rude and handled our complaint very badly. We will certainly not be back.

We didn't eat at this pub, but stopped in for a drink. It seemed a nice, clean, friendly place. They have a handicapped restroom on the main level which seemed like a good idea, so many places we visited going up or downstairs was necessary, thereby making it hard for people with mobility problems. The regular restrooms however were downstairs.

Something of a curates egg. Food was rather hit and miss, I thought I was being given an onion gravy but the onion turned out to be lumps!! Pie was quite nice but let down by poor mash. On the plus side the staff are pleasant and I would imagine this would be a good place for families to dine. On the whole could be better but still ten times better than any s%it weatherspoons! !
