Had a dream ne night stop over here on the way to the highlands. Beautiful ground floor room with patio door. Spotless and comfortable. The dinner was excellent with good choices served by great staff. Plenty of choice at breakfast. Only sorry we were only staying one night.

Booked eight rooms at this hotel for a golf weekend for work only to receive a curt email two months later to cancel the booking. Apparently the booking manager doesn’t know his job and booked us in at too cheap a price. As I had already arranged tee times et cetera I would’ve paid extra to continue the booking, but wasn’t given the chance. I suspect that a better booking (probably a wedding ) has caused this decision to be made. I spoke to the owner -scroll down the reviews to see how that went! He shouted at me that this was “a four star hotel” maybe? I certainly won’t be trying to find out. Unfortunately the professionalism and politeness of the manager, does not even warrant a one star. Do not book this hotel if you expect adequate customer service.

The hotel is located within beautiful quiet secluded grounds that afford wonderful views. The Manager Glen and his staff/family looked after us so well and were always eager to help with any issues. We were part of a resident large New Year Party, service was always promt and very efficient. Our meals were absolutely excellent, so tasty. On New Year’s Eve we enjoyed dancing to the band in the special party room, it was a great night.. On other nights we particularly enjoyed sitting in the front lounge especially when the real fire was lit…the last night was a good laugh with Glen hosting a quiz night. Our room was large, warm and very modern. We have really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this gem of a hotel…thanks to all your Team for making us feel welcome and looked after.

Unfortunately, the memories of my daughter’s wedding, which was such a happy event, will forever be marred by the dreadful experience we had staying at this dreary and unloved hotel. I cannot list on here all the negatives. Easier to list the positives. One or two members of staff were friendly. Food on the first night very nice. That’s it. It seemed that the owner went out of his way to make this happy event as uncomfortable as he possibly could. Perhaps he doesn’t like people south of the border? Perhaps he just doesn’t like people and would prefer not to try and enhance the wedding experience – in fact, the polar opposite! I will expect, as noted in other negative responses, a counter accusation from the owner. I will treat this with the contempt it deserves and would suggest other wedding parties tempted by the lovely brochure/promises to do so likewise.

Reasonable hotel in a nice location. The staff were polite but it let itself down with small details. TV not working in my room, plug didn’t work in the sink (how can you fit the wrong size plug and leave it?) and the table outside my room had a used cup and dirty ashtray.

Quiet location surrounded by fields despite close proximity to the motorway. Large modern room with en suite with walk-in shower. Despite booking a table service was slow and staff lacked attentiveness due to guests from a sister hotel having to be accommodated for dinner at short notice because of staff sickness. Food was average. Breakfast had a lovely fresh fruit salad and buffet style cooked breakfast with choice.

Food last night was top notch. Generous portion sizes and tasty. Breakfast was great, plenty choice of cereals, fruits, toast and good selection on the hot buffet. Room clean as a whistle and comfy bed. Thanks for the fans in the rooms as it was a tad warm yesterday. Only tiny point was the radiators in corridors were on so a bit warm but nowt to moan about. Booked this hotel after finding out that it was were my cousins wedding reception was taking place. Arriving at the hotel at night time was a bit hard as there are no light on the streets and the GPS had the wrong road marked. I included a picture of the right way. We were shown to our room and we immediately visit their restaurant, they have stake night every Friday with a 25£ per 2 people offer. The food was amazing and i was so impressed to find out that this offer also includes a bottle of wine. we then decided to rest and shower and it was when problems started. The light of the bathroom was not working, and the bath tub was dirty and the drain was clogged with hair. We complained to the hotel and we were told that the will change the light. Well half an hour later and the light was gone again. We then complain again and we were told that they will unblock the drain and change the light again. After a while and 2 hours passed when they realise that they can not fix it and so we were moved from room 8 to room 10. Room 10 was a bit old fashion but well.. we decided that we might as well stay, we were already late for getting ready for the wedding. So we got ready and the reception was amazing. The food was really good and service great. At night we realise that the the room we were moved had spiders and webs on the ceiling. We been very disappointed with the rooms and for that price you can get a nice a way nicer hotel. It took too long for them to move us in another room and they should have checked their rooms before they move their residence in.

We booked the Dryfesdale Hotel for our wedding reception Carl and I and our 10 guests stayed here for 2 nights. The food was lovely, the staff were really helpful and friendly. We had a vegan in our party and they bent over backwards to find her things to eat! Including special bread, butter and specially prepared breakfast mushrooms as the Ones served were in butter. A few minor issues happened like the make up artist was waiting for 10 minutes at reception as there was no one manning it. I had a 11am wedding and had to leave the hotel at 10am so every minute counted in the getting ready time. I got out of bed and we had no lights or showers as the power had gone off but it was fixed quickly. There was a few attention to detail things like my maiden name going on the reserved sign after we were married and spelt wrong. Would of liked to meet the wedding planner that I was communicating by phone for 6 months, no sign of her. Finally our evening room was switched at the last minute without us being told. I understand these were all fixed and not really important as we had an amazing day. Thank you to all the staff. X

Daher gerne 5 Sterne! '

Been here before on a voucher deal, loved it so much we bought another 2 years down the line! What a night we had! Checked in with the usual friendly warm and welcoming staff, then went to room, freshened up and returned to lounge/bar area for our cream tea and prosecco. Lovely tea and a decent quality of prosecco, not cheap rubbish! We were advised to reserve a table for dinner as Friday night was 'steak night' and popular with the locals. Well we could see why! The deal? TWO 8oz sirloins served with chips and a bottle of house wine for £19.95!!! YES, NINETEEN.95! For only £5 per person you could 'upgrade' to a fillet steak, so we did. Seriously one of the best steaks I have eaten out for many a year! I asked for mine medium/rare - it was perfect, my wife chose 'cremated' (I use this term for 'well done') hers was perfect too (well in her opinion lol) - the house wine was a delicious Avignon Blanc - again not cheap vinegary plonk, a VERY decent Chilean wine with a good bouquet, and robust fruity flavours, not light, and leaving a good aftertaste on the palate!. Awesome fresh Scottish Breakfast the next morning after a very relaxing night in a really lovely comfortable room! So, the deal? £49 for Cream Tea, B&B (we did pay £20 supplement for a deluxe room) - but the REAL bargain? Two fillets with chips, a portion of peppercorn sauce, a portion of onion rings, a bottle of house wine, a pint of beer and an extra glass of Prosecco and I nearly forgot a Chocolate Torte 'to share' - only £54!! SERIOUSLY good value considering the quality, the surroundings and of course the lovely staff!

The menu had many great "meal deals" on offer with a 6 o'clock club offer available Monday to Thursday. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and finished off with a relaxing coffee on sofas. A lovely rural hotel near to Lockerbie. Some friends and I, one in a wheelchair, went for lunch here. The service was exceptional, the food fantastic. They were at pains to make sure that my wheelchair bound friend was made comfortable, taking us to a table that we realised later was designed for wheelchair users without being in anyway 'out of the way'.

We had called to book ahead for 6pm, the opening time, but we were asked if we could defer for 15-30 minutes as "we had a very busy lunch session today".There was a function in the dining room, and we were shown into the conservatory where tables were set for dinner. Quite pleasant actually, although in view of the polycarbonate roof I was glad that it wasn't still raining heavily as it had been earlier. Our waitress was polite but not friendly, and it would have been easier to make a cat laugh. Maybe, as a youngster, she was not at ease with a couple in their 60s and another in their late 70s/80s? Also, to be fair, my jokes are pretty weak.We went straight in for main courses, two of us being very small eaters anyway. The sizzling chicken and sizzling beef, both served with a well dressed green salad, were good. The breast of duck was a little tough, and the fish and chips unremarkable except in so far as they were served on pretend-newspaper on a wooden board, with the mushy peas in yet another little pot - is this a conspiracy against aficionados of traditional British fare? The duck-eater confided part way through the meal that she was having difficulty cutting it with the ordinary dinner knife, but short of leaving the table to hunt down a member of the waiting staff, we were unable to request a sharp knife - the staff did not come within hailing distance or make eye contact for the rest of the meal, and the one-who-comes-to-ask-if-everything-is-all-right-for-ya had long departed. To add insult to injury, our wooden waitress was laughing and giggling fit to bust at a pair of male customers who were flirting with her.Pie of the day, incidentally, was ham and mustard. A couple of these arrived at an adjacent table. Not having ordered them, we smugly noted that they came in individual pie dishes on a wooden board, obliging the diner to shovel it out of the dish rather than eat it off a plate. Time for this stupid affectation to stop, surely? We had the impression that the kitchen was backed up and the waiters were slowing things down. Certainly it took a long time for them to clear the main course, and then to return to ask if we wanted puddings, and they appeared to be standing around much of the time and pacing themselves. Nothing on the dessert menu really appealed to us, and after what seemed like a further gestation period of an elephant, with no sign of a waiter or waitress returning to take an order, we got up to leave and paid on the way out.Two of our party of four, our hosts on this occasion, had been to this restaurant twice previously and had excellent, prompt and friendly service. I'm sure they felt a little let down and I felt for them. We enjoyed our outing thanks to the company, but despite the poor service. I suspect we were just unlucky this time.

Went here for a quick evening meal. Shown to waiting area by competent staff as we had not made a booking. Excellent views over local countryside at subset. Opted for the cheap evening menu, 2 small courses for £6- £ 7 between 6-7pm. Brushetta and fish & chips for £6.50, can't be beaten. Good food, lovely location, well worth a visit.

Awful...avoid. You can tell the owner has lost interest. Carpets coming away on stairs, fraid carpets in bedroom, hole in bedroom wall, tiny tv, bedding dirty, everything dated and feels dirty. Only decent thing was breakfast...do not book unless desperate.

Breakfast seemed a fair price, but on arrival left a bit to be desired. Grilled tomatoes were warmed only and the sausage was small considering it was the only one on the plate.

My wife and I buy from this establishment on a regular basis and find them hard to beat, the quality of their products are second to none. Well done to all concerned
