Clearly you go here for the location. The service was prompt and friendly. The "American Pancake Stack" was disappointing. The chef needs a different recipe as these were definitely NOT American. Not British either. Some strange creation somewhere in the middle. (Trust me on this!) The facility could use a refresh, looking a bit tired, especially the table tops are showing their wear and tear. As much as it was good for what it was it could be so much more. Just a bit of reinvestment and fine-tuning and it would SING!

There was no room inside when we were there on Sunday. But the food truck on the outside had delicious coffee and Guinness cake... the tables outside are spacious to enjoy the view

1 Star – Uncomfortable, Unwelcoming, and Poor Service My visit to this café was deeply disappointing, not just because of the subpar food and drinks, but because of the openly uncomfortable and unwelcoming atmosphere my family and I faced as Asian customers. The stares from staff and other patrons made us feel like aliens—like people of color were some kind of novelty they couldn’t comprehend. The owner couldn’t even muster a smile while serving us, and the overall energy was hostile, as if they couldn’t wait for us to leave. The only person who showed basic decency was one woman at the till, though even that felt like a forced front. The terrible service might’ve been slightly forgiven if the food and drinks were good, but they weren’t. The "hot" latte was lukewarm, and the tortilla with salmon was barely warmed, dry, and hard with no poach egg as stated on the menu. The hot chocolates were just glorified milk! And to add insult to injury—you have a chai latte on your menu, a drink rooted in our culture, yet you couldn’t extend even the most basic respect or hospitality to us. If you can’t treat customers with dignity, you have no business offering items tied to their heritage. We left feeling humiliated and out of place. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone, especially people of colour who deserve to dine somewhere they’re actually welcome. Save your money and go to an establishment that values all customers equally.

Fantastic place to dine and enjoy the stunning view out to The Bass Rock. It does get busy so recommend you book. An early morning breakfast is a true delight in this magical place

Good food, fab views, lovely staff

View-beautiful Food-over hyped on social media. There were no printed kids menu it was on the wall that we couldn't see and there's not a lot of space to be moving around in there without feeling like you're in the way, please just print some kids menus off! For the kids meals just get some normal heinz beans, they tried the fancy kidney bean things but as most kids would just wanted normal beans for their breakfast so ended up not eating most of it as the plate was filled with the fancy kidney beans that they didn't like. As adults we both had the pancakes with maple syrup. They were beautifully presented but not much maple syrup on them at all. 3 stacked on top of each other but only enough syrup for 1 pancake. Be better just to put a small jug, and then people can decide how much they want rather than not enough or too much. The scones were delicious as we took some for takeaway so I would recommend them. Also the price of delux hot chocolate was over £5! There was hardly any toppings for that price- was expecting a lot more cream very overpriced for what it was. We wouldn't go back for food inside again only for takeaway cakes.

Lovely food and spectacular location

We came for lunch but didn't realise they don't allow dogs inside. As it was a pretty nice day, we got two veggie drift rolls from the cart outside (which took about 15-20 minutes) and sat at a picnic table. The food was lovely! But I probably won't be back cause we usually have our dog with us

Is so good here I went two weeks in a row as the first time I stupidly didn’t leave room for cake. Excellent lunch on both visits.

Lovely views and lovely staff, The food is good but not great. The noise in the building is loud when the place gets full. But it is a lovely place to go and l will go back again sx

This place is a mixed experience....The good: the views and nearby beaches are fantastic. The bad: the food is quite poor, while being expensive, with very few, if any, vegan options. The vibe inside is a little chaotic and the staff generally look stressed and fed up.

From the warm welcome, to a wonderful waitress who went out of her way to squeeze us in, to the delicious toastie and insane cake selection, to the views which take your breath away. It was a first visit for me but definitely won't be the last.

Quirky cafe in a unique location. Staff were great. The main problem is that due to the cafe being in a converted shipping container it can be noisy. When I visited kids were screaming at ear shattering levels so we had our lunch as quick as possible to get away from the racket!

Great place to stop for something to eat, lots of home bakes and specials on the menu. Good service, and the view is to die for.

Situated at the edge of the cliff top that provides breathtaking views of the Bass Rock, the cafe offers a lovely selection of brunch, lunch and desserts. While seating is limited, it's a must-visit spot in North Berwick. Reservations are highly recommended!

During my stay in the area I walked here on foot. This place really attracted me because of the good reviews. Going to a restaurant alone is something I didn't do until my stay in October, but here I felt completely at ease. The view is fantastic, the food was delicious and thanks to the display case with goodies, I couldn't resist taking two pieces of cake with me to my accommodation.

Love the vibe, service is amazing

Went for Sunday drive been here a few times, the view and ambience are spectacular. Ordered take away, poor young fella outside didn't have much clue, however just needed support . Coming from 15 years of hospitality myself it just all seemed missed matched. There were 5 working inside. Felt outside could have been better staffed as a lot of business for takeaway, with limited seats inside.Younger hostess was extremely polite and had great work ethic

Super cute and small cafe with amazing views. It's a little on the expensive side for cafe food but it's a beautiful location with the big windows facing the sea. I'd recommend booking in advance as it's quite small inside and fills quickly. Appreciate that they have some dog friendly spots available outdoors!

The Family met up here a have lunch. It's situated on the Coastline, with amazing views! Food and the atmosphere is really good. The Guiness Chocolate cake is something else...truly scrumptious

Disappointed - not from the local area and tried to used a voucher that was only a couple of days out of date, that we were given as a gift to buy a few pieces of cake and was told no. Will not return.

I am honestly shocked by the level of customer service I received in this place. I drove all the way from Edinburgh after a friend recommended the place to me. I took my wife and kids for a nice Sunday brunch just to be faced with a horrible experience. Starting with the waiter who didn't give us any time to choose our food, despite me having 2 small kids, and it was my first time in the shop. Then understandably, as I didn't book a table, we were seated at tiny tables to start with until a table becomes available. Then, about 5 tables with a nice view over the sea became available, and when I asked to be moved to a table that would accommodate my family, they moved me to a table with no view at all. So instead of having a nice brunch with a view with my family, I was faced with people who don't have any orientation of good customer service. I will never return to this place, and I will always recommend against going to it.

The food was amazing! We were taken by someone who absolutely loves the place so we were very excited. We got some rolls, the all day breakfast and the beef cheek. All of which tasted amazing but unfortunately did take quite a bit of time to get out to us. The staff themselves were wonderful, its just a shame the food took so long. The cakes however were out rather quickly and were delicious! We got the chocolate Guinness cake, the carrot cake and the lemon drizzle cake. They were all perfect and the lemon curd that came with the lemon drizzle was just the cherry on top! As for the atmosphere, it was mostly great as it was nice and cozy inside which one of the best views I've seen. However, we were seated next to a window and, as it was very windy, the window kept moving with the wind and banging on the table. An easy fix of moving the table away from the window a little but it did create a sense of unease that the window was moving at all in the first place. All round a wonderful experience and will be back as the food was superb! (Most likely on a less windy day)

We called in because of a recommendation, and it was worth the visit. The view was beautiful - it is in a shipping container that has had windows put in, and it overlooks the sea and Bass Rock. The staff were nice, and when i mentioned needing a cushion due to back issues, they helped accommodate me really well, and it was greatly appreciated. The food was nice and came in good time

It's one of my favorite places, it's always good to come here, you're guaranteed to get a nice smile and delicious coffee or hot chocolate ☺️I recommend it to everyone. ☕️🍪

Hidden gem just outside of North Berwick. Very close to Tantallon Castle. The first time I went there I had no expectations of the cafe and I was blown away by the whole experience. Very unassuming from the outside but the inside feels so cosy and the views are breathtaking. The food and the way it is presented is very good too. Jo, the owner is very professional and kind. I had a big party of 14 people coming from all over Scotland and England for my birthday and she guided me along so that on the day everything went smoothly and everyone enjoyed their time there. I highly recommend it! It's the kind of place that would appeal regardless of the weather.

Great coffee and a great view from the terrace

A little gem of a cafe. Great views of Bass Rock and cosy feel immediately inside. Nice welcome and orders taken when ready. Busy and popular, some reserved tables. My husband enjoyed a breakfast bacon n egg roll, I had a bacon and vegetarian haggis breakfast roll, 2 lovely hot flat white coffees, then followed by delicious carrott cake, which we shared between us. Staff very friendly and service amazing. Will definitely be returning here on our next visit. Thanks sooo much 😘 x

Yes has a lovely view otherwise just your big standard cafe. Average prices Can imagine it being a hot box in summer and freezing in winter as cafe is a converted Fright container sitting on cliff edge. Can see this on inside as look around window and you’ll see the rusty metal. Wouldn’t think this very hygienic???

The food was great, however the treatment from some staff was a little off putting. We had booked a table, with two proof of verification, and they didn’t want to sit us as it didn’t show up on their system. The girl who was acting as hostess, wasn’t very apologetic of the mix up and was quite snarky when we showed her the proof. She had then asked the lady who solved our issue very quickly and served us very nicely. This wouldn’t have been as big of an issue, if this treatment was given to everyone. However, every walk-in table after us was sat quickly and without a fuss. And we hadn’t received this treatment even though we had booking. Perhaps it was just because we were young but the treatment shouldn’t be given to anyone. The food was great though.

A breathtaking little glass cafè right on the top of the East Lothian seacoast . There are benches outside if it's fully booked, but it's worth a visit if you are near North Berwick !

Inside the container was cramped and hot. Service was slow and the food ok but nothin gvto write home about. The location itself is nice - best to just get a coffee if the weather allows.

Last time I came here was during COVID and the one thing I remember was the hot chocolate and it's still as good, very original the block of chocolate attached to the spoon makes it a lot better great views of bass rock and the sea very recommended if you're in the area full five stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ loved it

Incredible location✨ You might not read anything else - just visit here because of the place. Also I like that the menu is so different and I can feel they cook with 💕 love Whenever the Panko Fried Chicken BonSam rice was difficult to finish. Rice just flooded in sauce and radish smells too strong🤪 While Salmon salad was really delicious with big smoked prices of salmon 🥰

Such a dramatic location on the cliff top overlooking a fabulous beach. Food great as were the staff. Will definitely be back tomorrow!.

The place is on a high elevation and directly overlooks the sea. It is wonderful and the people who work are nice. Suitable for tea and coffee or a light breakfast.

Really nice atmosphere, staff all seem very friendly and upbeat. Would definitely recommend the Drift Roll if you go; the garlic aioli absolutely makes it. Very reasonable prices for the quality of food, with wonderful views - and very conveniently placed for the surrounding castles. Highly recommend

Great place to visit. Fantastic views, we go when we're out on the motorbikes, you have to be careful in the stone carpark.

My son brought me here for my birthday lunch. We had a fabulous time with a front window seat. Unfortunately, the disabled spaces were not respected by other patrons and we had a minor altercation with our car. Which was dealt with in a calm manner.

Very lovely staff and unique location. Their pastry was a bit too sweet for our taste.

This is an incredible place. When you open a restaurant with such a stunning view of the Forth and the Bass rock, you need food and service to match, and Drift certainly does. It’s child and family-friendly, with food that is delicious and original. Outstanding.

Easily 5 stars! Cosy place with amazing view to the sea and to the nearby beaches. The food was very tasty, although a bit pricey, and the service was great with staff being very friendly and efficient. Plenty of space outside for parking your car too.

Went there yesterday (15/08/24) we didt book but the staff made sure we got a table they where lovey the food was amazing and a amazing View we will be going again when we return to Scotland

The perfect scenic cafe you didn't know you needed in your Scottish coastal roadtrip or day out with amazing views and just as great cakes! Would recommend booking in advance as the tables fill up quickly.

The waiting time was horrible considering the queue wasn’t that big. I guess customer service is not at the heart of the team at Drift.

The location speaks for itself. Apart from that, the food was fresh and service kind. Next time we’ll have to try the baked goods - they look delicious. Glad we made a reservation since we walked up from the beach which was a bit long but mostly scenic. Also can take a bus back to town but it doesn’t run often.

Chose this cafe for the location, wished we'd driven past. Ordered one burger 2 fries and 2 very small drinks. Food poor for price. Was asked to pay before food arrived, which is fair enough, what is not fair is asking for a tip before you've got your order. £29 for the experience, won't be going again and won't recommend. Staff need training in customer service.

The location is beautiful and the staff are great - we were very happy with both of these things. Two things let us down: 1) the coffee was very poor - with a taste and consistency that was on par to a greasy spoon or a Wetherspoons. For the price (£4.25 for an oat latte) I'd have expected barista-grade and this was not it. The coffee tasted like it had not been dialled in and the consistency of the milk was not right at all. I don't know if they were just having an off day or the barista was on holiday as I can see from other images on Google that the coffee normally looks (and I imagine tastes) better. 2) The vegan options were lacklustre. After the waiter didn't know what the vegan version of the veggie breakfast was, we ordered the vegan granola. We thought they'd simply swap the dairy yoghurt for vegan yoghurt, however it came dry with just the berries on top. With just a little bit more effort the granola would have been excellent as the berries were fresh and the oats were tasty. My partner liked his but again felt like something was missing. Would I go back? Probably, if I was in the area and wanted to take somebody from out of town. If you don't have dietary restrictions I could see the food being more appealing but as somebody who unfortunately does I wouldn't go back for the food. I just wanted to reiterate that the staff were really lovely, and I don't want this to be taken the wrong way. Hopefully some suggestions can be taken on board as you clearly have a great thing going in a wonderful location.

A lovely café with wonderful views of the coast. The smashed venison burger and Guinness chocolate cake were particular highlights!

Ordered food from the takeaway van. Latte, Bacon roll and two portions of “skin on chips with sea salt and oregano” - long wait for food despite being the only customer at the van. Bacon roll was stone cold. Chips were not worth £5 a portion! Small portion of chips, size of a bread roll. Chips were not skin on fresh chips. They were McCain’s frozen at best! So much sea salt on them we had to wipe it off. And I like salt. Overall disappointed.

Was very excited to visit here today myself and my daughter were going to try the full breakfasts we are an hours drive away wish we could have booked but we had to stop on way so didn’t know how long we were going to be! The place was almost full what I thought was their last table it was very small and round and we had to share a seat for one if we wanted be around the table. Not so happy when a couple arrived after us getting a table with two seats nearer the sea view! They have cramped so many tables in to such a small place it made our visit a very unpleasant one we didn’t get the breakfast as there was no room for us both to eat in such a small space! In hind sight I would book a table with a sea view but don’t think we will go back as just so cramped inside. Far to many tables seems more about the money than comfort! Drift got £10 from us for a 10 minute visit we couldn’t wait to get outside! On a positive note the staff were lovely!!!
