Drake's Fisheries in Bradford

Fish and chips were beautiful they also except card payment. UPDATE one year on. 4pm visit. The food tastes like it was warmed up from the night before, chips were rubbery the fish cake batter peeled off like a sheet of rubber all was inedible. Over £11 for 2 meals, and we've not even eaten it. Plus. The front of the chip shop is solid steel( all the way to the floor)which was extremely hot to the touch, a warning sign is not on it, if you go in with a child be careful of the counter.... Lady behind the counter laughed it off when I mentioned it..

Over priced cold burnt chips very genourswith 1 star wouldn't recommend

Fish butty & curry sauce £9.05…. Not a bad fish butty to be fair. Had worse.

The only thing I ever get from here is scallop specials, and the staff manage to ruin it everytime. This time half of the paper was INSIDE the butty, always completely squashed so cant eat it properly. Chips are either rock hard or undercooked. This is the last time I order. No quality care of food or service.

We called in last night for a take away. service was fine. Chips a lovely colour but were hard as rocks and mostly scraggy bits rather than chips. The fishcake should have been lovely as it was made with sliced potatoes, in reality it was overcooked, and had been in warm counter far too long. As hard as rocks and not edible for me. The dogs appreciated their tea last night.

I got delivery today and ordered 2 fish and chips and2 mushy peas only problem was like it is the few times I've ordered the chips are so bad oily I also ordered scraps only scraps there was were the chip love the fish

Got a cake wrapped up &when I got home it was disgusting, only 3mins..it was like a lump of concrete...portion of chips burnt

Thought we would treat ourselves to fish n chips on this awful snowy day.really wish we hadn't bothered,the chips were absolutely vile,like they had been sat there all day,burnt,cold n rock hard!! All four portions were the same,shame to say they went in the bin! So disappointed 😒

We've just had sausage and chips. The chips were mostly scraps and chip ends. The plain sausage was okay, but the battered sausage was soggy and bland. Very greasy. We will not be returning.

Had a fish butty from here whilst on my break at work. Served by friendly staff and the fish tasted very nice.

Can't fault the fish and chips they are good but some of the staff are really bad Went in a few weeks ago put my order in (I was the only 1 in the shop at the time) the young man behind the counter asked if I want any fish I said yes and I also wanted a portion if scampi.I paid got my fish and chips went home only to find that there was no scampi I went back to the fish shop and the lass behind the counter said we were very busy and mistakes are made. NOT SORRY OR ANYTHING

Disgusting oily and soggy fish and chips, with rude and offensive staff. No manners, no respect, just abnoxious and off handed, they make rude jestures behind your back thinking that you don't realise, hence a very bad atmosphere and a yobbish customer service with personal hygiene issues. Hate to imagine if they spit on your fish or not. Indeed altogether overpriced for the cheap under weight fish they use, and the one potato portion of cheap frozen under cooked chips that taste like cardboard and veg oil. Fish is thin and stale in taste, the only taste is that of salt and vinegar. This is not as fish and chips should taste like. A complete waste of money for a overpriced stale, tasteless, oily, soggy and disgusting fish and chips.

It’s fish and chips it is what it is. That been said the staffs attitude is absolutely disgusting. The one particular girl serving this evening around 17:10… Absolutely nothing short of rude and arrogant. Slamming things around and a face like a slapped arse! Absolute joke of an attitude and service…..

Chips are very very scrappy no good for anyone who has certain needs for eating and dangerous for children ,not a bit of potatoe cause the chips are cut that thin and for the money you pay for them deffo avoid and spend your money somewere else and the fishcakes are just as bad very dissapointed.

The fish and chips and cake must be the worst I have ever had. The cake was rock hard with no potato or fish in it. The fish were very thin and the chips were also rock hard and scratty. This place has just gone down and down. Been going since it opened. Nothing like it was originally when the very first fryer was in there (bring him back). They are not worth the money that's for sure.The staff don't have any contact with the customer and come across rude. I certainly won't be going back and suggest people give this place a wide berth.

Just bought our tea from here ,what a waste of money. The chips so hard and scroney had to bin them and mussy peas were more like green water. Will not be going there again.

Shockingly overpriced poor quality fish & chips. Used to be a good chippy 5 years ago. Price of fish is more than murgatroyds and a quarter the size. Your sliver of fish and £1.40 for a dry cheap teacake was the end for me. London prices are cheaper and that saying something. I understand cost have gone up, but you have taken it to a whole different level. Go look at prices of other local chippys, some with a massive restaurant are not even charging what you're charging. Genuinely hope all your shops go under and rightly soo for your greed Read all the other reviews not just me.

I had a pie in the oven and decided I wanted some chips from the chip shop so I drove to Drake's to get two bags of chips one for me one for the wife, to be honest I am not a lover of their fish because I find them a bit on the thin side but I have had chips from Drake's before and they have been fine when I got there at about 4:30 pm 3/9/24 I was the only customer there,£5.70 for two bags of chips not bad price but oh my god when I got them home two bags of dried up offerings they had been under the heat for God knows how long had to throw them away they were like eating over done crisps never again.

Been many times like other people reviewing, however at 4:30 pm on a Wednesday I got hard inedible chips, I think I’ll stop going now because it’s a luxury due to the price, very disappointed.

Not Fresh and expensive at the same time

Visited here a couple of weeks ago. The chips where lovely, the batter wasn't very crispy and it was quite thin. Quite expensive for a chippy.

Fish was ok but the battered sausage and cake were disgusting dried up and inedible how they could even think of serving this to a paying customer is beyond me, i wont be returning.

Bright fish and chips twice in the shop, we live 5 minutes away, it was 9-15 at night, we opened them up at home the chips were hard and chewy, we couldn’t eat them. Luckily the fish was nice. This is not a cheap shop and I expect a shop with the Drakes name above the door to provide fresh cooked fish and chips. These chips must have been old and refried. It is not the first time this has happened here. We will take our custom elsewhere in future

Slowly declining..prices have gone up and serving gone down.

My partner has just bought some fish and chips and a chip butty one Curry source one beans from this shop 9th July 2024 and cost £22.00 they are taking the micky the fish was hard the chips were old and chewy I had to throw it in the bin it wants cosing down discusting I work hard for my money 💰 there very lucky that I have not been up there and thrown them back at them

I paid 10.50 for fish and chips and not even enough chips to go with the fish

Having been a loyal customer for years, sadly today was my final visit to this shop ….. £7.40 for a “Fish Butty” is horrendous, I nearly had a heart attack when I was asked for “SEVEN POUNDS FORTY” …. The staff are absolutely amazing, the food is spot on, but the manager is an obnoxious little piece of work !

The fish was acceptable, but it was clear the fat/dripping needs changing. It is producing black bits on the food. The chips had been reheated, and awful.obviously dunked back into the pan to reheat, resulting in dried up inedible chips. Curry sauce, none existent. The tiniest ladle of curry sauce was put on my chips, so small I couldn’t even taste it , at a charge of £1.65. This has seriously gone downhill. Will not be revisiting.

Food hygiene needs looking at there. Girl took my money (coins) then handled and buttered my tea cake without washing hands/ putting gloves on after handling money. Just kids getting paid minimum wage that don’t want to be there. Fish also very very greasy and soggy

Bought fish and chips twice and a fish. The fish was terrible it was hard the batter was too hard. Too much bi.carb in batter mix and overcooked.

Quick pop in fpr fish and chips usually busy at peak times and they d0 delivery aswell via uber ect but pick up instore is good staff are ok too give them a try 👍

Young kids are messing about behind the counter. They wrap the fish so tight that when you unwrap, it looks like half of the estate has been through it.

This place does really nice food. The 1 problem I have is the fact they NEVER put scraps on. I always ask for it on the notes on delivery. Even when I go in the shop and order I have to ask twice and watch to make sure they go on. Theirs no number to call the restaurant as it just goes to an inbox. Its not the main part of the meal no but for me a chippy just simply isn't the same or as nice without them. They are free and should be included when asked. This is the 3rd time in a row now so I will be buying from a different chip shop from now on. And I buy alot of them so this is a real shame on this place. The notes should always be read from online orders incase customers have dietary requirements etc so theirs just no excuse.

Husband ordered cake and chips, absolutely rubbish, chips were very sparse, cake was nothing like I've had before, thin piece of potato in between 2 bits of over done batter. Tried to ring up and let them know how disappointing they were, but mailbox was full!

Just had the best fish and chips for my tea from here, will definitely be back again. It was very busy the staff were very efficient and polite.

Absolutely love this place I go everyday for my lunch I try everything foods always spot on the staff are so friendly and always smiling and laughing couldnt recommend anywhere else but here for great food and great service

I enjoyed my meal it was hot and very tasty. I wish that maybe a senior meal could be on the delivery options as the portion was very large and I had to waste some of it which seems a shame ordered again today 15th April. Very disappointed the food tasted as tho it had been reheated from lunchtime. Not worth the price. Won't be ordering again

Just ordered for the first time after hearing good things from others. Just paid over £40 and they are disgusting. Opened them up and its swimming in grease cant taste anything other than that. Chips taste like they were warmed up and rubbery. Absolute joke and won't be going back. Dont know what those who recommended this place had but what a waste of money

The fish, chips and curry sauce were of the highest quality. The fish was made to order. Staff were polite enough they just weren't very friendly.

I just got fish & chips delivered as a treat to myself. They were absolutely awful. They had been microwaved, probably from lunchtime, the batter was that hard you couldn't bite into it and the chips were just greasy piles. Will not buy from here again. Forgot to mention I did ring them but no answer, so I left a message.

Come all the way from Germany and this is the first Shop what i visit Reasonable prices and fish and Chips are incredible.

Really nice food from here love the chips as they are a nice golden brown taste lovely, tried the fish fantastic moist succulent & at a decent price all. All the staff are great fantastic service what more can you want

Food absolutely terrible this eve Got it delivered as home and carnt drive, due to a recent operation. Came quickly and Uber driver, nice and friendly.. food diabolical, a portion was Missing and the rest of the food was Cold, overcooked and the chips were all Scragg ends and dried up. Most went In the bin and we’re a real Disappointment! Won’t be using again. Tried to phone and complain but apparently they have no phone! Really? 😔😞

I'd not visited this place in years and called in with a friend just for a bag of chips. The staff were all so lovely, especially the young lady who served me, and all were dressed as Teletubbies for Halloween (or at least that's what they told me!). The food was delicious and as good as I remember.

I ordered through Just Eat. The site forces you to add a condiment such as salt or scraps before allowing a selection to be added to the order. We ended up with what seemed like more scraps than chips, and at nearly £10 for fish and chips, this is a cheeky and unwelcome portion reduction technique

We ordered fish and chips through Just Eat. For our order to be taken we HAD to include salt & vinegar or scraps.! I prefer to add my own condiments. There was too much salt on mine and my partners chips were forgotten! We tried phoning numerous times but no one answered the phone. Very poor Drakes.

Normally OK but this week the scollops were very thin and hardly any batter OK so they were hard. Also one of the orders were not wrapped up very well, all spilt out int the bag whilst driving home, I think it's because they have somebody new serving on. Not been watched over.

An overall nice fish and chip shop with friendly staff and quick service. Food poritions are not as big as expected but I would still recommend buying from here. The prices are decent with quite a large menu and the location is nice for locals. Take out only.

Updated 09/05/23 Two lads serving on one of whom I guess was the fryer but disappeared mid fry and the serving lad finished off the fish and chips. The quality of which was less than the previous standard. It seems the blond haired girl fryer outshone these two lads by quite some distance with regard to frying to perfection. So if you are buying fish and chips from Drakes fish shop 5 Lane Ends. Make sure you go on the days when the girls are frying as they make a remarkable difference. One might say it's a womans touch. Well I agree wholeheartedly. Pleasantly surprised. Chips small but were done to my liking. Fish a good size. A little more work on the batter I thought but all in all very nice. So much better than the previous Drakes. Thank you very much 👏😋

If you get the right fryer Saturdays I think he works.. trust me you will now go elsewhere 🤤

Our just eat app won’t let us change the delivery address to stay at the correct address (we have consistently tried) and therefore this means that sometimes we forget to change it right at the last minute (our fault). However when this has happened with other takeaways they happily (and easily) changed the delivery address but when my dad rung to do the same a woman answered and was unbelievably rude and nasty to him (who lost his dad today and this resulted in him having a nervous breakdown). I am furious at how they spoke to him and their serious lack of customer service is concerning. Absolutely no need. Don’t order from here

After a 12 hr shift we decided to treat our selves to a chippy tea . Ordered fish and chips ×2 , a cake , a scallop and 2 curry sauce . Was charged over the odds but I thought maybe price increase . While wrapping my order I noticed a fish on its own I said I didn't order that and the young man said he put that through and I had paid for it . Rather than mess about getting a refund on my card I said I would take it , then as my order was finished I asked about my 2 curry sauces to be told they wasn't on my order so had to pay for them separately, then when we arrived home I only had 1 curry sauce even though I had paid for 2 . So my partner had to make sime gravy . My partners cake wasn't a cake just potato no fish inside . A very expensive tea that turned out rubbish . Will not be rushing back . Its run by young children that are not listening to the customers

Disgusting, greasy, the chips were green in places and scabby, the spam fritters were soaked in oil. I certainly wouldn't be going back.

Genuinely impressed. It takes a great deal to impress me when it comes to Fish n Chips, but the fish butty I had from here from crisp, light and tasty.

Just had fish and chips and wife had a kids fish and chips. Both were big portions and hot. Nice staff. And the food was excellent. Really really nice.
