Drakes Fish & Chips in Leeds

NO! Sorry but that was absolutely disgraceful food. Expensive small portions, the fish wasn’t fried enough so the batter was still sloppy inside, I don’t know what fish they are using but it didn’t taste or look like cod/haddock? I strongly recommend not spending your money here. 0/5

Absolutely had my pants down on a ‘Large special’ fish butty. £13.40 for that a curry and can of pop. The fish was a regular to small at best and the curry sauce had large lumps of unmixed gloop in it. Avoid like the plague. I just wish I read the other reviews before going.

It’s the second time I’ve ordered from Drakes. The first time, the fish and chips were delicious. The fish was covered in a lovely light and crisp batter and the chips were well cooked, crisp and fluffy on the inside. I thoroughly enjoyed them and, because of this pleasant experience, I ordered them again. This time, however, they were terrible. I got 2 fish stuck together with soggy brown batter and the chips were like rubber. They were obviously not freshly cooked. Heated by microwave,

Normally really nice but my cheesy chips weren’t great loads of black burnt bits floating round and hurting my teeth and the chips are solid on the ends. Hope it’s a one off as this is our fav chippy

Thought I'd treat myself on New year's eve and this has always been my go to and is also a family favourite.

food was lovely, piping hot. ordered in the afternoon to be delivered at 5pm. it was 45 minutes late and 2 cans of drink missing.

Took a long time for haddock & chips to be prepared, then absolutely ages for it to be out for delivery. Watched the delivery driver go completely the wrong way. All of this whilst the delivery time kept getting further & further away. Arrived cold.

The sausage tasted like leather, the curry sauce 80% water and the chips tasted like they’d just warmed them up from 2 days ago. What a disappointment and waste of money.

I went 2 weeks ago order fish butty(£7.40),the black lady charge me first and then gave me defrost of piece of fish and when she packing ,she keep looking at me,I told her that's not the fish but she totally ignored me and I end up throwing the food and walk away. Really disappointed.

Our local primary school staff use this fish and chip shop and the food is lovely. Best fish and chips. The fish cakes are amazing aswell. Staff are friendly. Worth 5 stars

Great portion sizes and food was lovely. However, customer service was very poor. The lady in the shop, presuming was the manager, was rude to myself and a staff member, to a point where she began to cry. Wont be collecting from there in future.

Honestly avoid where possible. The worst service I have ever received in my life. As someone who works in the hospitality industry I can be sympathetic however this was shocking. Woman who looked like what appeared to be the manager was possibly the rudest most passive aggressive person I have encountered in a long time. She was rude to me, other customers and worst of all a member of her staff causing her to walk out back in tears. She looked as if she didn’t want any of us customers in there and honestly was a joke. I also went to this shop earlier in the year for a collection and she was rude to me then also but I gave her the benefit of the doubt that she may of been having a bad day. With the amount of struggling businesses these days i don’t believe anyone should put their money into one that doesn’t even respect their staff let alone their customers, will never ever buy from here again. If I didn’t think it would cause more trouble to the poor girl she made cry I would have asked for a refund and walked out. To make it even worse the food was below average and soggy.

Overpriced garbage. £9 for dry and tasteless fish and chips on their own. Served by a miserable woman who looked like she didn't want you in there and tasted like they've been left them out in the sun. Don't waste your money.

First time order from Drakes. I will definitely be ordering again. Food arrived on time, within 40 minutes of ordering. It was lovely, and warm. Just the right amount.

I have just bought the worst bag of chips I've ever had. They looked and tasted like they'd been kept warm for hours ... dry, chewy and burnt ... horrible!!! I've been here a few times and this is not the norm, if anything they're usually far too greasy. Question: Does the lady who works there actually want customers because she really makes you feel like you're an inconvenience to her. I will usually only ever go in if she's not working, look through the window and if she's there I'll give it a miss. Absolutely no need for rudeness. Maybe a bit of customer service training wouldn't go amiss.

I have purchased from Drakes many times and have enjoyed the food however this time the fish batter was soft and soggy and the chips were cold and I was unable to eat most of them.

I never received my order, though it said food delivered. My phone was out of order and I finally contacted you a few days later, online. You never looked into the failed delivery, said I was too late. Not good enough you have stolen £20.50

Would go here as last resort when the other chippies are closed, but not any more. Fed up of the rude service and poor hygiene standards, was waiting but walked out after being put off after seeing pretty unhygienic practise.

Those were the worst fish and chips we've had in years they are not the standard from Drakes we are used to. the 'fish' was just a batter ball the 'chips' must have been re-heated from 2 days ago, ended up throwing them out be a while before we re-order. ☹

Just had the worst fish and chips ever from this place!( ate half a fish and left the chips) the price of fish and chips is too expensive to serve rubbish. A place to avoid even if you're starving!!

I bought fish and chips for me and as I’m reviewing fish and chips around Leeds, it tasted good but I ordered an extra fish for my cat. Once I’d taken the batter off for her, I’d say that there wasn’t anymore fish than a tablespoon. It looked pathetic on a side plate. Disappointing

Myself and partner had takeaway a few hours ago of fish and peas each, shared a curry sauce and they portioned our chips between us, lightly battered as requested, all of it was absolutely delicious cooked in beef dripping...Yum

Chips were terrible. Were a mixture of overcooked, reheated and scrappy and many colours. Did not contain any that looked fresh. When paying almost £10 I expect much better than this.

I thought it was rather strange when I asked for napkins and she blurted out what sounded like, loo roll. The fish was swimming in so much grease, and, had it been water, might have jumped out of the bag to freedom. The owner of this establishment is to blame for his choice of staff. She was too busy on the private call to attend to customers and had me waiting for five minutes or so. Appalling service, appalling product appalling presentation, and all round and appalling experience that nobody should endure.

Excellent fish and chips I recommend them.

Ordered 6 cans of dandelion and burdock with my order, which never came. I phoned them and was told that they wouldn’t send them out to me, I had to reorder them paying another delivery fee because of their mistake. I’m now waiting for refund from just eat. I won’t be using them again

Not sure what is going here, used to be great. Last few time just awful customer service, terrible atmosphere, all the staff look so unhappy, long waits and average food. Staff ignored people coming in and looked annoyed that people were there. Whoever owns this place needs to do something fast, not going back.

Avoid! Not worth the money! Had ish and chips, extortionate price and appaling quality. Chips were cold, fish had no flavour and dripping in grease.

First time I've used Just Eat. Excellent Fish, Sausages, chips & curry sauce from Drakes, Chapel Allerton and bang on time delivery. Thank you.

Rose tinted glasses comes to mind on this revisit to this traditional Yorkshire Chippy. Well as I had to wait a little while for a freshly fried haddock, I’m happy to say it was worth the wait, as nicely cooked & decent quality too and I’m pretty sure was fresh too. But the chips that accompanied were questionable as some of them were hard & not freshly fried, plus some of them looked refried. I also got charged extra for a box (nice one) I didn’t really want as I would have been happy to eat them out of the paper. Some probable regulars, possibly tradesmen were tooking in in their transit van outside with paper wrapping as their tray… So overall halfway house on this visit.

Food amazing as always, main issue was the delivery driver who left the food in the car park we live in a block of flats. We have buzzers we could have come and met him. Made no attempt to contact us. Called Drakes who where super professional.

Waited over half an hour for fish and chios, the server was very rude when asked how long it was going to be, she said, I can't tell you that, eventually we got them, when gor home to eat them, chips were stone cold and half of them were raw, the other half was burnt, and it looked like they hadn't change the oil for weeks, took them back for a refund, the rude woman totally ignored me, so I told her I didn't want to be waiting over half an hour to get my money back, all in all a terrible experience, I doubt very much I'll be going back there again, and I will be telling everyone I know, not to go there, I live less than 5 minutes from the fish shop, so distance was not an excuse

Wouldn’t even give 1* Absolutely vile food. Chips was full of grease and undercooked, sausages was over cooked and barely chewable. Wouldn’t even bother wasting money.

Terrible service. The order was wrong and the driver called us as he tried to deliver to the wrong street and refused to believe us when we told him that he was on the wrong street. As if we don't know where we live.

Oh my goodness...the worst chips I have ever had in my life..and at the age of 55 that is some statement I just made .service not much better either..needs closing down really as they should not be allowed to charge people for this food..its a disgrace

I ordered a meal from Drakes fish and chips in Leeds but despite the app saying that it had been delivered no meal arrived. I contacted Drakes an they couldn't have cared less. I have been trying to contact Just Eat for a refund but I can't seem to find a way of speaking to someone. The payment was taken from my account. As far as I'm concerned this is theft! I will never use this useless service again.

What's happened to this place?? Been going for years. 20 min waiting time and only 2 of us in, mushy peas cost £2,50.... (not sure if this is the going price these days ) and not very tasty FnC's, overpriced and disappointed, won't be returning.
