Visiting Chicago from DC and so so jealous I don’t have a spot like Rose’s in my neighborhood. I was alone, but didn’t feel alone. Amazing staff, food, and music. Highly recommend the brisket! I was nervous about it because I’m from Texas but it exceeded my expectations. 10/10!

I would say, first, maybe reserve a table before walking in, or expect a wait of 30 to 40 minutes. The staff was super friendly, and the environment was a little small but had a lot of character. The food was really great. I had the Masa Pancakes, and they were so good. The mole spice syrup was a step up from regular maple syrup. The Tlayuda was also ordered, and there’s nothing but good things to say — super delicious. Overall, super delicious food with a good atmosphere. Definitely stop here if you're in the Wicker Park area.

This is maybe my favorite restaraunt to take out-of-town folks to. It's got a lot of things I love about Chicago food: The service is exceptionally good, especially from the person typically at the bar; the vibe is cozy, unique, exciting and unpretentious somehow all at the same time; the food is f***** amazing. Come hungry, because the portions are massive. Lines can be long, so this is an especially good spot to hit when you have time to walk around Wicker Park stores are can dip into the farmer's market. But all in all a great restaraunt. Could not recommend the burnt ends hash or the chicken fried chicken more (torn between the two).

To begin, I was recommended this establishment by a friend. Being of Mexican descent, I have some high expectations for food from my culture. I believe this place does some interesting things but maybe isn’t as amazing as some reviews rave about. I got the brisket hash and my sisters tried the horchata cold brew and masa pancakes (with the mole syrup). My sisters agreed it was interesting but maybe not as flavorful as they would’ve believed at first sight. I found similar moments of confusion with the food as the brisket itself had a good flavor but the rest of the hash I desired more. I tried adding some of the hot sauce provided and it lacked any heat at all. There was another oil provided which looked like it could’ve had spice but didn’t really add anything /-: I ended up adding a lot of pepper to give it some more flavor. The service was superb which I do want to highlight. Showed up with no reservation, got on in a waitlist, we went outside for maybe 7 mins and got called back in for our table. Our waitress was incredible and checked up on us multiple times. Seating can be a tiny bit uncomfortable if you are put in the stools but you can work with it. Overall decent, maybe I had too high of expectations but just decent.

Really wanted to like this place but felt disappointed by the dinner. Food was extremely greasy, to the point that it made us sick. Portions were decent and we left feeling full, and the service and atmosphere were totally fine, the food just fell flat. Shrimp toast was bathed in oil and the chicken fried chicken was huge but majority crust and a flavorless gravy. Granted, we went for dinner, and I’ve heard great things about this place’s lunch, but we were left disappointed and grease filled.

Alright so a lot of restaurant food is excellent, right? They find the best ingredients, add more salt and fat than you would at home, they apply heat with skill, and it makes for some real good food. The taco norteño here is one of those rare dishes that hits a few notes higher. It's all of that - skillfully made with great ingredients, etc. But it's greater than the sum of its parts. A truly exceptional dish that makes you interrupt yourself to say "oh shit, this, this is GOOD." Add some of that salsa macha (the chili crisp cousin that lives on the counter) to really emphasize this effect.

Such a cute little diner. I went with my friend for a Friday lunch. My friend is vegetarian so we split 3 vegetarian options: masa pancakes, pimento cheese, tlayuda. Absolutely loved the masa pancakes and pimento cheese. I wouldn’t get the tlayuda again, it just wasn’t what I expected. The pancakes had this amazing butter and syrup with it. And the pimento cheese dip was so unique and tasted amazing. I had the root beer and I thought it was okay. I loved the vibe and will definitely come back to try everything on the menu. It’s near some cute stores so my friend went and shopped a bit before we met up.

We each got the Dove's Deluxe and weren't impressed... the food tasted good, but it was a relatively small portion of basics that weren't worth $15. My friend, who doesn't eat red meat, asked if there was a chicken option to replace the sausage or bacon, but we could only get half an avocado. Maybe some of the other more niche options would have been better, but with this I was left feeling I could have made it in my own kitchen for far less.

It has been over 6 years since I last visited here so I am re-writting my review. We used to love coming here but it was just so difficult to get in because the joint is so small and it was first come first serve. Now you can reserve your seating online, it is a big plus and we will definitely come back more often. The food here has a mix of American and Mexican, lots of Tequila and Mezcal. The menu is small but this is how it should be for a small breakfast / lunch joint. Something quick and easy, quick turn over. The seats are all bar stools like an old dinner, along the edges of the restaurant and a bit by the kitchen. It is extremely uncomfortable to sit for a long time but the service is fast so there is nothing to worry about. I wouldn't come here for a date but for a good comfort food fix this is it. I strongly recommend the fried chicken, which is tenderized thigh meat marinated and drenched in buttermilk, crispy and mouthwatering, especially with the gravy and the homemade chilli hot sauce. The burnt end hash (home style potatoes) is also legit, tender meats and flavorful.

I’ve been here many times and I love the food/diner vibes. The burnt ends hash is one of my favorite things to each for brunch in Chicago, and this time got the chicken fried chicken and tried their new burger as well. The chicken was a mountain of food and was delicious. And the burger was fantastic. Light, sesame seed but was great and the sauce was amazing. Also got the Al pastor seasoned fries. Delicious, and the side of Chipotle aioli had a real nice kick. Only downside was we had to wait 1.5 hours for a table. Longest I’ve had to wait here before. Still worth it though, highly recommend.

Our friend who lives in this neighborhood recommended this restaurant and we went this weekend for brunch. There was a 20-30 minutes wait because the place is not big, but the wait is worth it! The restaurant is cozy and has many cool details. My favorite is that the music is played on a turn table. We sat in the bar, and enjoyed a house made tortilla with crispy cheese and brisket and potatoes. Both dishes were delicious! We also had good coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice, and an amazing pineapple, cucumber, and basil juice. As long as you don’t mind a little wait and seating close-by to other people, you will love it because is tasty. The bartender, Al, was super nice and recommended us places to explore in Chicago. We would love to be back and highly recommend it to you! Whatever you order, please try the salsa macha! 🔥

A retro diner with Mexican fusion dishes. The fried chicken and potato hashes are done quite well here. The portions are also generous and dishes are reasonably priced. The Burnt Ends Hash is the most popular dish here but I preferred the Chicken Fried Chicken - it was nice and crispy. The hash didn’t end up having as much brisket as I had hoped. Seating is communal and mainly consists of bar and window seating. You can expect to be sitting beside strangers. Interior is unique with retro features and they play music with vinyl records which is cute. The staff are friendly and are knowledgeable about the menu. Oh how I love Dove's. My friend and I visited Chicago in July 2024, and we were staying in Wicker Park just around the corner from the Damen stop. Dove's looked cool so we went in, and we were both thrilled with the results. It was breakfast time, and we sat at the bar and looked over the menu while the bartender, who we soon learned was a Kraftwerk-loving fellow named Courtland, gave us some suggestions. We ordered, and chatted with him while we waited. Courtland and I talked about cumbia, and mezcal, and Chicago. We realized that he and my friend had grown up in the same neighborhood. In summary, Courtland is rad. The food came, and it was fantastic. I had Dove's Deluxe, complete with salsa matcha and a little hot sauce. My buddy had Brisket Hash. We both had perfect cups of house coffee. We finished our breakfast, said our goodbye's and went about our business. Later that day I said "Can we go back to Dove's for drinks now?" My buddy obliged, and we ventured forth. We jumped head-first into "Dove's After Dark," drank cocktails, shot mezcal, and made new friends. Dove's is A+++ Highly recommended

Dove’s brings a unique, lively Tex Mex flair to traditional diner food and vibes, and the service is excellent. The dishes are fresh, flavorful, and come out fast. It’s kind of pricey, but the portions are large and filling and my group of 4 had some leftovers afterwards. Make a reservation if you can— seating is limited and it gets quite busy for brunch especially on weekends. Food I tried: - Taco Norteno (4.2/5): The brisket in the taco was delicious, flavorful, and well-seasoned, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the tortilla which felt too thick and dough-y for me. - Tlayuda (4.3/5): I enjoyed the crispiness of the tortilla and the freshness of the ingredients, though it could have used a bit more vibrant flavors. It was simultaneously light and filling. - Brisket Hash (4.4/5): Great flavors all around. The potatoes were crispy and well-sauced and the brisket was meaty and umami. - Masa Pancakes (4/5): Probably my least favorite out of everything we ordered, but I’m also just not the biggest fan of pancakes. The flavors here were just okay. — Price (relative to peers): 4.2/5 Food: 4.2/5 Ambience: 4.8/5 Service: 4.8/5 Overall Value: 4.4/5

Dove’s is a fantastic spot whether you’re popping in for brunch or dinner. The inside brings you back to that old school diner vibe but it’s a significant upgrade when it comes to the food. If you like Mezcal, they also have a wide range of mezcal offerings straight up or in their cocktails. I think there needs to be a conversation about their OK Style Smash burger being one of the best in Chicago with a perfectly soft bun, great sauce, and a nice crispy lace on the patty. If you’re there for dinner you can’t skip it, and throw in some of their Al pastor fries. I’d also recommend the chicken fried chicken and their deviled eggs. The restaurant is not very big and the the amount of seats relative to it's size is kinda absurd. It's also fairly pricey, and the portions are fairly small. I had the "Dove's Deluxe" which comes with 2 eggs, 1 link of sausage, 1 piece of toast, and approximately a half a potato. I also had a regular coffee. The food was "meh", nothing that blew me away or would justify the price. Total with tip came out to $24 and some change. I feel 3 stars is too generous and 2 Stars is too harsh. So 2½

Had a great breakfast here while on a visit to Chicago. Breakfast was incredibly delicious. Mezcal selection is fantastic. Will definitely return when I'm back in town.

Best atmosphere, best service & best breakfast in Wicker Park! If you like a cozy diner vibe, Dove's is for you. The food is always amazing. A must-order is the Dove's Deluxe, Tlayuda & the horchata latte. Grab a seat by the window for fun people watching!

We've been here a few times now on different trips to Chicago, and I'm not sure we'll go back. The seating is so uncomfortable and we always have to sit at the long table shared with other guests which is fine, if it was comfortable. But it's not. The seats are stools there and hard and short, and we're always right next to the area where the servers stand and sitting close to strangers. And it's so small and loud, I noticed several wearing ear buds which was a good idea. But we went with our friends and just had a hard time having a conversation, music was loud and everyone has to practically scream to talk. The food is ok, we got the dove special breakfast, the sausage and bacon were both really good, the toast was burnt, the hash browns were ok, service was ok. Overall, just not the breakfast experience we're looking for.

Almost all counter seating in this cute diner, definitely better for smaller groups. HIGHLY recommend the broccoli caeser salad, it was my favorite thing we ordered. The potatoes that came with both the brisket and the basic breakfast have a delicious aioli vibe that made them the highlight of both dishes. Bread was also outstanding. Brisket was a little tough and slightly cold - maybe just an off day. Would recommend!

It's like someone said "Let's make the BEST food ever so everyone wants to try it but choose seats that are as UNCOMFORTABLE as humanly possible”

Two egg breakfast is perfect, some of the best breakfast potatoes around (smash-fried), old school lunch counter vibes and solid service. Diner coffee like you’d expect and which is perfect for the scene. Excited to try more on the awesome, concise, and curated menu…. brisket, tlayuda, etc.

This is a lovely find tucked away in the new quadrangle on Gotherinton lane. Just popedin for lunch and so pleased I did. Everything was fine and they deserve a few more visitors

Ideally placed opposite the Porsche garage! Consistently good quality food, cooked well. Always friendly staff {even when very busy} as are other diners. Good range of meals on offer but they will customise combinations.

Have lived in Brockworth for the last 12m and never visited until last week. We’ve been missing out! Friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Food was great. Prices are reasonable. Perfect spot for a good breakfast.

Fantastic shop. Crammed full of everything you could need. Lovely family of staff. Nothing is too much trouble.
