Good food. A bit expensive. But I think well worth it.

Would highly recommend. Really lovely food. Service was very good. They did not pester you. We had the table for the evening. We would of stayed longer. But one of our party had to get up very early. Definitely be back. Xx

A belated Valentine's Day dinner, we were made very welcome from start to finish. The staff were very friendly and didn't rush us between courses - nothing worse than being chivvied along to get you out, this certainly wasn't the case here. Yes, the prices may put some off of coming here, but I can honestly say that it was money well spent, and the environment was perfect for a couples meal, although we sat next to a family and they seemed to enjoy themselves too. I think this is a venue for all occasions and the food was exquisite; all of our courses were piping hot, and the flavours were outstanding. The portion sizes were set for comfortably full, rather than needing to have something because you're still hungry. For a good meal out, I would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant and I already have plans to return!!

Simply the best restaurant on Canvey Island!

We walked in at our allotted time. Stood for a couple of minutes while being ignored by staff busying themselves with making up tables etc. Waved toward a table in the corner. Not auspicious but ok. Drinks order taken, we just opted for a litre (should have made more than 1 and a half glasses each of white sangria. Which consisted of some chopped apple and orange some white wine not chilled and Ice. Was a bit underwhelming really. We were not really feeling the love at this point. We had some olives and bread and butter. The butter was the pre packed single portion variety. No oil or vinegar etc. We ordered mains. My partner had the seafood stew special which was served with some rather lifeless bread, but the stew itself was excellent. I had a mixed meat skewer with some extra king prawn. Was asked if I wanted hot piri piri which I did. It came up with a rather disappointing salad a little equally disappointing rice, and some excellent if sparse fried potatoes. The prawns turned up 5 minutes later. The meat was good (the piece of steak was tough and chewy but flavourful, though the piri piri was all but absent. I think with the prawns the cost was around £25. The prawns were over salted We both had a dessert which was OK. A coffee and a Portuguese take on Amaretto ( which was excellent). By this time and having had to fight to get the attention of the lad laying up tables in order to order, and failing we were served by a lady who was pleasant and attentive. Overall for £120 with a tip, for 2 it was underwhelming, it may just have been that night after all the Christmas madness. We will give it another go soon and see how it is. But for now, it’s average service and despite the excellent fish stew. Average food.

Nice relaxed atmosphere and good service. Had the scallops to start which was quite a small portion however tasted nice! The tapas dishes we had were amazing, would definitely return!

Friendly, efficient staff. The staff were attentive and discreet, so no pressure on taking our time over the menu and as two of our party were late arriving Great and varied Menu choices. Each item showing possible allergens clearly and as part of the description of the dish. Everything we had was cooked to perfection and well presented. I have no qualms on recommending Douro Valley as an eatery to visit.

Lovely Portuguese food and brilliant customer service.

This restaurant well deserves its high ranking. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced, while the suggestion of 2-3 "tapas" per person was exactly right for us - the garlicky king prawns were a highlight, but it was all tasty. The restaurant makes some concessions to where it is (see photo), with some fairly standard bar offerings, but the house wine was very drinkable and the staff were excellent, attentive and discreet at the same time. Although our table was at 9 pm and we were easily the last to leave, they didn't put any pressure on us to go, even though they must have been longing to press the ejector seat button. Highly recommended.

Ate on a very quiet Wednesday night. Very clean restaurant. Happy and polite staff. Food was excellent. Appeared to be all cooked fresh. Generous portion sizes. Set menu excellent value for money.

We love Portugal, we go there at least twice a year, so know what is authentic. This is probably the best Portuguese Restaurant in the UK.

Went there to celebrate my birthday. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for. Lovely food and friendly staff. The only thing that was missing was ambiance,the decor bland,no warmth. In my opinion Lights were too bright, not very romantic. Tables too close together. All said and done would go back again for a special occasion.

Rude and uncomfortable Environment. Waiter forgot our drinks order and came back to ask if it was red or white wine after being reminded previously. The squid and prawns were tough and overcooked. When it came to the main meal, the seafood paella was bland...

My wife and I have walked past this place for 8 years before eating inside. It was recommended by a friend and it didn't disappoint. The food was nice, I didn't enjoy mine so much but that was more poor choice than quality as I wanted to try something different. Prices were reasonable, we didn't drink alcohol so coukdnt tell you what that was like. All in all a nice night. My wife enjoyed her chicken dish and left me with food envy.

Rocked up, un-annouced and un-booked on a Wednesday evening. Turns out that I was lucky to get a table, they were pretty busy. My meal was great, mussels, Dover Sole and tart. Servce exemplary and smiley. Highly recommended.

Great selection of food and lovely atmosphere

First time at the Douro Valley but it won't be the last, we were recommended and I have to say that the food was superb, we mainly ate from the fixed price menu and there was sufficient choice to satisfy us.The staff and surroundings were really nice and nothing was too much trouble, would thoroughly recommend.

Finally tried this restaurant and glad we did , the friendly attentive staff were very welcoming the food was great after looking at the vast menu decided to have the tapas 6 dishes all tasty and reasonably priced . Booked for next week as enjoyed so much .
