We stopped here and was closed but bless them they opened early for us. And omg it was the best service and atmosphere you could ask for. The pancakes are mouth watering and there was no issue in ordering something different off menu. The drinks are freshly made using fresh fruit. Highly recommend and would happily travel the 4 hours to eat here again

This very unassuming cafe serves delicious food and at a great price! The tiny pancakes are delicious and the Indonesian satay is done the authentically Dutch way.

Myself and my partner visited this lovely homely establishment on the way home to Dumfries from Castle Douglas. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with disabled parking and accessibility. Friendly welcome and quick service. Plenty of choice on the menu:soup sandwiches toasties panninis omelette breakfast sweet and savoury pancakes and cakes plus hot and cold drinks. Reasonable prices for the standard of food excellent potion well presented and the meat feast pancakes were beautiful. Well worth a lunch time visit with an antique room to browse.

I know this excellent place is about to move to Springholm along the A75 and I hope the locals and tourists support this great place. Unpretentious and totally delicious, the owners gave us a sample of the amazing Dutch Poffertjes smothered in butter and also recommended a very tasty syrup to have with a cheese and sausage savoury pancake. Please go out of your way to visit this place if you're staying locally or passing by - it's a real gem and the prices are so (too?) reasonable. Can't speak highly enough - thanks!

We found out about the opportunity to have poffertjes and Dutch pancakes in Castle Douglas before we went on a weekend break to the area. Oh yeah!! Between us we had savoury and sweet pancakes and poffertjes for lunch; all delicious! I had the shoarma pancake which was very nice, but I can recommend the chicken satay (or saté) which I also tried and which was amázing! The poffertjes were also great and exactly like you would get them in NL. Wish I could pop in more often but it's a 5 hour round trip...

Stopped with the family whilst on holiday to try some Dutch pancakes. Doesn’t look like much from the outside but inside the food is delicious. Between six of us we tried: - schwarma pancake - bolognaise meatball pancake - two cheese, ham and pineapple pancakes - chicken satay pancake - Nutella, banana and ice cream pancake All hot and very tasty! Prices ranging from £3-5.50 for the various options! Service good too! Will be back if passing through again to sample the mini Dutch pancakes.

My boyfriend and I decided to stop here for lunch during our holiday in Scotland and it was a brilliant decision! Our food was absolutely delicious and the people who work here were so lovely and kind, even suggesting nearby places for us to visit. I will definitely come back if I'm in the area again and I've already recommended it to his parents. Thank you so much, we really enjoyed eating here! x

We were given a warm welcome and great food when we popped in for lunch. It is unusual to be served Dutch pancakes in a small Scottish town and the fusion of Dutch and Indonesian with their Chicken Satay pancakes was a delightful surprise. Added to that the price is great value for money. We will return.

The Double Dutch Pancake Kitchen on the corner of King St and St Andrews St may be small but it packs a punch with the quality of the food.

Visited in a bit of a rush and opted for the pancakes with ice cream . Presented with a nicely cooked pair of pancakes and a decent dollop of good quality of ice cream . Service top rate and just sorry I did not have the time to try some more of the menu.

This little place looks so unassuming from the outside but once inside you know you've hit somewhere different from the rest. Amazingly good value, home-cooked foods of all sorts from soups to savoury and / or sweet pancake with numerous and imaginative fillings. Ben and Teresa prepare the food freshly before you and all their little touches with the table settings are cheerful and appealing. Should be a place to frequent regularly when in CD.

What a wonderful find. A great change from the usual sandwich menu. Both the savoury and the sweet pancakes were tasty as was the breakfast my hubby had.

We have attempted to eat here on three occasions. The first time we went in was not long after it opened. We were surprised to find it open after very erratic and unpredictable opening times and no times stated on the door. We went in and sat down. The people at other tables (of which there were two) were eating. We sat and waited...and waited...and waited...a woman appeared from the back and took plates from people seated, but completely ignored us and then disappeared in the back.We waited..and waited...and eventually after NO service, got up and left. Thinking this was a one off, we tried again several months later. We took visiting family with us. The place was full (three tables) but we thought we would get a take-away. We stood at the counter with the same lady as before in front of us preparing food. She COMPLETELY ignored us! She walked passed us twice to serve the people at tables and never acknowledged us once. After standing about for 10 minutes being ignored, we left again. The third time we went (deciding to give it one more shot), we went in and sat down, the same thing happened AGAIN!! We were totally ignored by the same woman, who came into the seating area to remove plates, glanced in our direction and then disappeared again, never to reappear, so we got up and left, AGAIN! On all three occasions we went to other cafes in CD and was served within 5 minutes of sitting down. This place needs to seriously improve it's customer service. To not even acknowledge people who are waiting with a smile and 'I'll be with you in a minute' is rude and very bad practice. Needless to say we won't be going again!!

We called in on tea-time for a light snack and were not disappointed. The welcome was good, the cafe was clean with dutch decor. There is an excellent choice of both sweet & savoury pancakes. My husband tried the snert (Pea Soup) which he said was very tasty, then we both had a meat feast pancake. It was all really lovely and so nice to try something a little different.

This Pancake café is a bit different from the run of the mill café. Not only are the proprietors very warm and friendly, offering a welcoming atmosphere but their fare is uniquely Dutch and very tasty. They offer both savoury and sweet fillings with some little extras that make the place a charming eatery. While you wait you must try the game which, if you are successful will result in you being rewarded with another tasty treat. See the photos for a better explanation.

On reading the sign on the door that they cater for gluten free we went in to be informed that they had ran out of gluten free flour BUT they could make the pancakes using banana which my daughter loved, very accommodating. We were going to have them as a take out as we had our dogs with us but was told to bring them in so we could all eat inside. Delicious pancakes all round. Lovely owners. Definitely recommend.

On seeing a sign on the door that they cater for gluten and dairy free I went in. I got the most amazing gluten and dairy free pancake with my chosen topping, bacon and maple syrup washed down with a soya decaf latte! It was fabulous and really perked me up having been searching for gluten free fish and chips throughout the borders to no avail. Come on Borders. Wake up to the needs of us 10% of the population who are coeliac and start catering as well as Double Dutch!!

Try especially the Malaysian Satay in a peanut sauce and the Dutch Pea soup was to die for plus excellent value. The premises are brightly decorated in the Dutch national colours and the staff smartly attired in orange uniforms.

I stopped by one afternoon with some friends to try the poffertjes, and we made the unanimous decision to return the following morning for a late breakfast. Lots of delicious options and very reasonable prices! Certainly worth visiting if you're ready to branch out from paninis and other staple cafe food. Thoughtfully designed interior and friendly service.

Unremarkable cafe, decorated in red, white and blue, plus, of course, orange pennants, serves real Dutch pancakes, hearty uitsmijters and, best of all, poffertjes. You get 21 of these mini pillows of freshly-cooked, light, fluffy pancake crowded on a plate. There's an extensive choice of toppings, the traditional being powdered sugar and butter, but I went for Dutch stroop (syrup) for an experience that took me straight back to the years I lived in the Netherlands. While you're waiting try your hand at sjoel, the Dutch take on shove ha'penny. If you're any good you can win a free pancake. Friendly service from husband and wife team (he's the Dutch part).

The Hitching Post is everything you’d want in a classic American diner! The food is delicious, with generous portions and all the comfort food favorites done right. The staff are incredibly friendly and make you feel right at home. The atmosphere is warm and nostalgic, perfect for a relaxed meal. Highly recommend stopping by—you won’t be disappointed!

We had a superb midweek supper here with friends in November. Bit of a trek from Dumfries but well worth the visit, and even closer to the M74 for anyone travelling up to Scotland in need of a refreshment. The haggis bites were delicious and the lamb kleftiko simply melted in the mouth. Their Chilean SB was extremely gluggable and very reasonably priced. Abbey and Jack were the best hosts. Highly recommended.

The SWI had our Christmas Meal here this year and pre ordered. I had the turkey and trimmings which was served on a huge platter and three huge slices of turkey. Everything cooked to perfection. I took the apple strudel and ice cream - great ice cream. Everyone enjoyed what they had ordered and a lovely atmosphere, and attentive serving staff who were pleased to see us and cheery.

My wife and I have eaten in this restaurant on numerous occasions in the past and I must say that tonights meal was the best we've ever had there. My wife had the Salmon and I had the Steak Pie which was out of this world followed by two fantastic deserts & coffees. Could not fault the meal or the service that we received, well done to the management and staff for taking care of us - Thank you.
