Double 2 in Cheltenham

Tried the 5 course menu one evening at Jonas at GL50. The quality was fantastic, superbly prepared and presented with style and enthusiasm by the chefs themselves. The flavours were intense on every course but not over flavoured. The front of house was also very good. This restaurant deserves to be very successful. My only feedback on changing things was that the wine flight, at £45/head for three small (c125ml) glasses of wine each, we thought excessive. Nice wines but (to us) no more so than the wines we would normally chose in a quality restaurant for £30-£40 for the bottle. I think adding just more one glass of wine so you didn’t need to ‘manage a glass across two savoury courses’ would make the wine flight feel a little better value.

We did the luncheon. I would rate the lunch menu with 3.5 stars. Unfortunately, my food came out nearly cold, hardly warm. I can only image the flavor of the food would have been better had certain dishes been warmed to blend together. I would try the dinner menu to give the place a fair chance in my final thoughts/review of the restaurant.

We were at a wake in Cheltenham and came across Daphnes on our way back to the hotel. It was coming up to 10pm but the owner so kindly invited us in and we had the most amazing meal. The food was fresh and absolutely amongst the best Turkish food we’ve had (and we are big fans) Thank you so much for your hospitality and for taking in 2 stragly tired ones at such a late hour. We will most definitely be back.

Isn’t it lovely when you stumble upon a place and the Chef can not only cook but cares about what he is sending over the pass. For us just a quick Friday lunch buy wow it was excellent. A leek & Gruyere Quiche served hot with beautifully dressed salad - the dressing perfectly balanced served with an extra portion of hot crispy fries - just perfection. Well done Chef. One month ago we booked a family table but unfortunately when they served us our food, literally it was not properly warm. We were really disappointed at that time but we ignored it. I will suggest to you that improve your food service.
