Dong Hai Chinese in Croydon

I have had various dishes from here and I've always been happy with the food. It's a decent little Chinese with a good menu and fair prices. I recommend 💯!

Usually we love this place! However after ordering on Saturday night, both me and my teenage daughter have come down with food poisoning. Not happy at all. Doubt we’ll be ordering from them again.

This was so amazing, unlike any Chinese I’ve ever had before. Best Chinese takeaway in the whole of Norwood. Me and my 3 kids absolutely love it! Workers are super nice as well 😊☺️

Said food would be with us in 30 to 40mins still no food after an hour rang to see where it was said on way 20 mins still no food rang again they said its just left when turned up food was nasty chicken balls doughy ribs fatty chicken chow mein tasteless worst chinese I've ever had

Worst Chinese food in Norwood Junction burnt and tastless and there was a fly in my food

i ordered beef in black bean sauce i got soya meat i think it was terrible i dunno wat kind of meat they are serving it was absolutely disgusting

Had a takeout. Mixed hors d'oeuvres were a little burnt but the crispy chilli beef and egg fried rice was fabulous!

This is really a take-away joint (so 1 star for atmosphere) and while the premises could well do with a makeover, the food is fantastic. Good portions, reasonable prices and tastes delicious. I been several times and have not had a bad experience yet. Just note that this place is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

I'm so surprised by the high ratings on Google, their "chicken chow mein" was literally burnt pot noodle with boiled jellied chicken on top, it was so rank I gave it to my dog. Most unsatisfying Chinese I've ever had in my life

Food took over an hour to be delivered & was cold when it finally arrived. I specifically asked the latest that I would receive it as I have to eat at set times due to health problems & was promised 35 minutes at the latest! I wouldn’t have ordered if I’d known. I’m only 2 minutes in the car but was too I’ll to drive. Surely people who’ve ordered first for delivery should receive it first! First & last time I ever order from here🤬

On Friday 28th October 2022, I was at my friend's house and we decided to order a Chinese. We came across Dong Hai and saw the 4 stars and thought, let's give it a try. Now....let me say the food did not disappoint. Every dish we ordered was tasty and very nice. Curry Sauce - Best one I've tasted Sweet and Sour chicken - Very nice Nice but has no pineapples but that's ok. BBQ Ribs - tasty and meaty Chicken Balls - good portion and nice Spicy fried rice - delicious Chicken Fried rice - delicious Chicken Noodle - nice texture, not dry. Beef in black bean - tasty We will definitely be ordering from there again for a girls night in. I hope they don't change the chef! 🙂

Tatty looking take-away with only a 3 star rating but the food is very good.

Great food, excellent service and always on time. Really enjoying trying different options from their menu. Definitely try the duck and the special dry fried rice!

My local Chinese takeaway. Food is cooked well and is always enjoyable. My favourites Shredded chilli beef, Fried rice noodles Singapore style without pork or bean sprouts and King prawns with spicy salt & chilli. They always cater for my needs and will not add ingredients I don't eat. You can pick up or they will deliver if you are fairly local.

Enjoyed meal tonight rice and bbq ribs really.nice. The best around SE25 area will definitely be ordering again.

The best Chinese food we have eaten in London! Was recommended it from a friend and it exceeded our expectations. Will be our local Chinese takeaway from now

Excellent Chinese menu, with some Thai and Singapore dishes. Have ordered a number of times and food is always hot and perfectly cooked. Can take a little longer on busy nights, but it’s worth the wait. Superb!

Dont make the mistake of ordering a box meal, genuinely came with 80% rice and 20% beef. They laid it out to look like half rice and half meat but just pushing the first few pieces of meat on top to the side and what do you find, a whole other layer of rice underneath. Been ordering here for years, this has put a massive dent on my opinion of them.

Ordered from them for first time recently. Food was very good, no complaints. Well, only complaint, although some might not see it as something to complain about, was that the food arrived a lot earlier than the delivery time I picked. More than 1 hour early and that was a bit of a nuisance, as we wanted it to arrive and be hot when some people got home, but hey, I suppose better early than late and it can always be heated up.

Really good takeaway. The hargau is outstanding, the noodles are fantastic, the portion sizes are huge and it's good value.

Just received my order from Dong Hai and i am unimpressed. The order itself was 40 minutes late, surprising considering I live a 5/10min drive from the restaurant, I was willing to overlook this on the basis that other reviews regarding quality were pretty good, boy was I wrong. I should’ve known something was awry when the woman I spoke to failed to give me a straight answer when I called for an update.... anyway. To be frank, I am absolutely flabbergasted at the quality of this food. The vegetable spring rolls are actually inedible, I’m not even exaggerating, I literally can’t chew them; The prawn toast is a really disturbing yet fascinating mix of stale and damp, I’m not sure how that feat was accomplished, I’m astonished tbh. The texture of the kung po chicken was inconsistent, but the special fried rice, now THAT was an absolute nightmare - the prawns hadn’t been deveined (and let’s face it, we all know those aren’t veins) the rice was also saltier than the Bolivian salt flats and saturated in, what I’m assuming was, soya sauce. Chow mein noodles were average, a bit dry I guess... oh yeah and the piece de resistance ; the king prawns with cashews in yellow bean sauce - why oh why did the cashews come completely separate and whole? In regards to flavour; it tasted exactly like duck pancakes, specifically the hoisin sauce that comes with the duck pancakes you get from Sainsbury’s, perhaps a bit spicier, I mean I LIKE duck pancakes and hoisin sauce but that’s not what I ordered today - at least the king prawns had been deveined, I guess. Anyway, that’s £27 down the drain and I’m about to stick some beans in the microwave, cheers guys!!! Absolutely gutted tbh :(

The person below should have waited for the food before they wrote the review! this was some of the best take away Chinese I have had since I lived in the UK. the lemon chicken was absolutely fantastic, will definitely order again.
