A group of friends had a lovely Sunday lunch here. Real home cooking with delicious vegetables and Yorkshire puddings. The lovely lady in charge even made a special pudding after we booked in advance and notified that one of our party had gluten and dairy intolerances. Great beer also. Delightful and charming young serving staff.

We had Sunday lunch here recently. The food was all home cooking, portions were good and the food was served hot. There isn't a lot of style here but you don't expect that in such a quaint country pub. However I didn't expect to carry my bottle of wine and glasses to the table!!

Drove past while staying near and thought this looked like the type of country local I like. Parked up walked to the door to a sign saying closed open at 7pm. Returned at 7pm still no sign of life. Phoned up, was told to come around the back. Walked in to a pool room with eastenders blaring and the bar man sitting there looking surprised tome a see us. Zero conversation out of him not made to feel welcome at all and a terrible pint. Never again

The Dolau (Dolly) sits a couple of miles outside Newtown. It's a great little pub with a small bar, with wood burner, a back room for meals, as well as a side section with tables, and a pool table at the back with plenty of room for players and spectators. Mark and Chris are lovely, really friendly, as are the locals. Chris makes some amazing meals and puds, Sunday lunches are extremely popular and you need to book in advance. Really good for omni's, Chris has made us some nice veggie options for Christmas dinners in the past, and the shepherdess pie is good. I get the impression that veggie meals aren't in much demand there, but Chris is a very good cook and may be able to provide veggie/vegan options with some notice. The food is home-cooked, not bought in, so you pay (reasonable prices) for the excellent quality. Check their facebook page for special happenings; they do a lot of fundraising events. Highly recommended.

We were looking for a place near Newtown for a sunday roast, previous reviews were good. Booked via phone, gentleman advised cash only, which is good to know. Sat nav takes you off piste, but asked local for directions and found it no issues. Choice of 3 meats, my son had all three! The meat was so tender and juicy, homemade everything! Gravy was superb, crispy fluffy roasties and plenty of variety of veg that come in serving dishes. We got offered more veg too! The puddings were great too, my fathers fav the homemade bread and butter pudding with custard 👍 so reasonably priced. Great homely atmosphere with log burner. We will be back. Thanks for the welcome 👍

Highly recommend staying here, especially if you’re travelling by bike. It’s easy to get to but quite out of the way so it’s a lovely location to chill out and have a laugh with your friends. The owner made sure all our bikes were parked safely and hidden away from the road. Some of our party stayed in the bunkhouse, each one takes 4 people. They were pleased with the accommodation and said it was warm. The rest of us camped, only £5 per person, per night. A real bargain. There are lovely big showers that you have to put 20ps in to use and nice clean toilets outside as part of the bunkhouse. The pub is quite oldy worldy but comfortable and the food is great. Take an appetite with you. I had Quorn curry two nights in a row as it was so nice. They had quite a selection for veggies which makes a nice change you can have what you want for breakfast too, you don’t have to go with a full fry up. I had porridge one day which was lovely. If you’re an animal lover you’ll enjoy it here as there are chickens wandering freely who love to follow you around as well as the owners beautiful pets. Had a really great time here and will be back.

After reading previous TA reviews, decided to try to find this little pub in the sticks. Glad to see it open when we arrived. Said "hello" to the chickens as we parked and had a warm welcome from the locals as we went in. Lovely little place, cosy and friendly. Menu looked very tempting but no food on the evening we visited. However, we will be back. Asked if there was a shorter way back to Caersws as our caravan is nearby, oh what fun we had navigating the country lanes over the hills and far away - in the dark of night, lol. Undeterred, we are looking forward to our return visit, I'm sure this will be our "local" next year.

We visited the Dolau with Sunday lunch in mind. Being a veggie it can be very disheartening when all you can find on a menu is veg lasagne. Not here! The choice was great! We phoned and booked a table prior and was given the list of veggie options but was told the roast potatoes and gravy weren't suitable. We arrived, were seated, ordered and was pleasantly surprised when the food arrived a special effort was made having my own veggie roast pots and gravy as well as a lovely selection of vegetables. I loved the nice atmosphere its was friendly and homely. I imagine it to be lovely and cosy in winter with the fire. Has a lovely big garden with friendly chickens and dogs. Food was not a problem "So long as you don't mind sitting in the bar". We ordered from the menu with some variations due to fussy kids. The food arrived promptly and was well presented, delicious and generous. Only one of our party managed a pudding (Belgian waffle with ice cream and maple syrup) and they said it was superb. Visited on a Sunday having read reviews on TA. Service was very good. Meat was exceptional. Most of the veg was delicious but the roast potatoes were disappointing (some were barely cooked) and the cauliflower was almost raw but it must be well nigh impossible to cook veg to suit everybody's taste. Anyway, don't let this put you off! You get a generous portion of meat and heaps of veg to choose from so it's not like we went hungry. I would 100% recommend the chicken in stilton sauce served with chunky chips and mixed salad but I wont because every one will want some and its my favourite!!!(usual request of "less chips more salad please Chris" is served up with a chat and a laugh from the hostess or the barman Mark. Once again had a great Trip to The Dolau. Nice people and a very nice Steak, Mark and Chris could not be more welcoming. They even let me dry wet clothes by the fire

By far the best Sunday dinner we as a family have ever had, a pile of perfectly cooked beef with crispy, fluffy roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding on each plate. Then out came the veg dishes, your usual Sunday dinner veg plus cheesy leeks and some amazing honey mustard roast parsnips. We had been offered a pudding for an extra £1 on top of our meal (the mrs turned hers down because she said she felt like veruca salt after she pinched the 3course meal bubblegum) I however opted for a "lumpy bumpy" only way to describe it is a bit like a profiterole cake but with extra chocolate and more cream! The landlords were more than happy to cater for our son who can be very pickey and were really welcoming. All in all a brilliant little country pub with a comfy atmosphere. Will definitely be returning for one of their Sunday bests!!!

I went here as a guest for Lunch on Sunday at a Childs birthday party. I couldn't fault it. I had the Beef. it came with a good selection of peas, carrots, cabbage, cheesy leeks new potatoes and mash and on the plate was a good amount of beef, Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes. The a full large jug of gravy came. My one daughter chose Chicken with Yorkshire pudding, ( the choice was Beef Chicken or pork), loads on the adult size plate for her as she eats well and my other daughter had a child's portion of Pork - with crackling and Yorkshire. We were also given the option to have more than one meat. It was brill. We will be going back there.

After reading reviews on trip advisor we decided to book a table for 2 families to meet for our monthly catch up. The food was "immense" - to coin a famous phrase. Children were well catered for and the staff were very pleasant. Will definitely go back when the opportunity presents itself and will recommend to family and friends. Only small downside is that cards are not accepted for payment so be prepared and take cash as the nearest cash point is a drive away.

It's a tiny little inn stuck on a quiet tucked away country lane. We were staying at a holiday home a few mins from the Dolau so thought we would give it a try.... OMG what a delightful surprise. The food was out of this world and the portions were more than the money we paid. Anyone venturing out there must pay this Inn a visit....

took parents to have a pub meal, warm welcome from Mark, excellent menu choice even catered for coeliac in the party with out any problems. Food arrived quickly, outstanding taste, and flavours, Menu was basic pub grub but we can honestly say this had to be the best meal we have had in this area for a long time Local produce cooked well. Nothing appeared to be too much bother for Mark and Chris even the bits we couldn't eat because we were full were neatly packaged up for our dog to enjoy later !!!Puddings looked extremely tempting but bellies were full by this point The bill was very reasonable too. I would highly recommend this excellent gem in the hills....but not too much because we want to go back and its only a small place !!!

It's often in small villages you find the hidden gems and this was certainly the case. Beautifully cosy and traditional, with very good home-cooked food for a very reasonable price. Best pub I've experienced in the area.

Well.....after reading the good reviews on Trip Advisor and holidaying locally, we thought we'd try the pub out one Sunday evening for dinner. Being quite fussy eaters, as in enjoying high quality home cooked food and no chain pub stuff, it sounded just up our street. It was! Stupidly we all had starters and I think I can quite safely say we all wished we hadn't as when the main courses arrived they were absolutely enormous! All home cooked to perfection and I couldn't fault a thing! The owners were very friendly and chatty, just what you want from a pub!Main tip: make sure you book ahead, it's a very small place and you'd be disappointed to miss out on this little gem! We will be back when in the area for definite!

Pleasant, friendly and very helpful staff! We have ventured out to eat at the Dolau Inn a few times now and my family and I (they live away) have favoured the grub here each time over any other pub grub in town! The food is always prepared and cooked that day with fresh local produce and they have never failed to hit our standards! The atmosphere is very relaxed, with a wood burner going in the main bar and another in the dining area!I also have children in which they are made to feel very welcome with a duke box, pool table, books and small selection of toys to keep them entertained while we wait (which is never very long).I highly recommend this lovely little country pub for food, camping, B&B or a quick stop off for a drink while passing on adventurous walks (plenty on offer in this picturesque area). Will be back in a hurry :)

Found this lovely pub for an 'on the way back from the coast stop off'. A great place for family and couples to eat! Great portions (huge), friendly staff, and relaxed atmosphere made this place ideal. Pool table in the back even to entertain tricky teenagers! Plenty of drawing and crayons to entertain the little ones. So all in all a good find. Thanks trip advisor !!

A brilliant time was had by all who attended a Trike and Bike meet for the weekend. The hosts, Chris and Mark, bent over backwards to make sure that everyone enjoyed themselves all weekend, nothing was too much trouble. The food was spot on, especially the Sunday lunch !Thankyou for a wonderful weekend, we look forward to many more here !

We have visited the Dolau three times now with our two children, we travel from Amsterdam. The rooms are comfortable, very clean and each on suite. The large family room is my favorite room with its own little walk out deck. The landlady offers a warm family welcome every time we visit. The food is pub grub, all home cooked and prepared for you by Christine, I was even lucky enough to have a Sunday lunch, which is delicious! My husband is from South Africa and he loves the real Ales that Mark serves in the bar. All in all a great experience, the only bad thing is when we have to leave....

Whilst I usually promote Deli-Licious as a good place to go if you have a Gluten Free (GF) diet, I was recently disappointed by their GF afternoon tea. I was pleased to hear they offered a GF afternoon tea but was left feeling let down by the poor selection and presentation. The normal afternoon tea was presented on either a picnic bench or a three tiered serving stand, mine was just put on a plate with no effort to make it look like everyone else’s in the group, making me feel like an outcast. At a cost of £16.95, it certainly wasn’t value for money.

Found this cafe on line, glad we did, the guys were so welcoming, even the dog was welcomed in. We both had the big cooked breakfast, wow, it’s not very often I actually enjoy a cooked breakfast but this was amazing, really good quality ingredients cooked perfectly. We’d happily go back.

We stayed in the village in May and visited Gegin Fach for breakfast a couple of times. It was absolutely fabulous! I had the full English breakfast both times and it was delicious. The staff and locals couldn't have been more friendly. Would highly recommend.

Passing through on a biking challenge over the weekend we found this cosy authentic welsh pub. The staff were incredibly welcoming, the beer selection was perfect and they couldn’t do more for us! Would definitely return if in the area again!
