Really disappointing this pub used to thriving and always full to the brim on a Sunday, not now and it’s not difficult to see why. After often visiting years ago and feeling this with the best carvery in the area we decided to give it a go with the new ownership. Firstly it is not easy to book multiple phone numbers scattered across the internet. But luckily/unlucikly it’s that empty that it’s not necessary to book in here anymore. The carvery is very basic, potato’s burnt to a crisp and tastes cheap to overall. The worst part of the experience was when the woman wondering in and out of the kitchen in dirty clothes, with dirty fingernails went on the customer side of the carvery and proceeded to pick at the meat with her hands and eat it in front of us. Don’t bother to complain as the staff take no responsibility, make excuses for the meat picking and practically accuse you of lying. Surely none of this would wash with a good hygiene inspection? I expect this pub will soon be closed again.

Upon arrival the waitress asked what we would like to drink, but didn’t know what lagers were on offer. The menu was not the one we looked at online which had a good variety of dishes. We were given an A4 sheet with not a lot of choice, when we asked about the online menu we were told that’s not the menu for Saturday and Sunday. Three of us opted for a carvery which was just warm! The door was wide open and the carvery was just a few feet away. My husband ordered fish and chips but I’ve never seen a smaller fish anywhere else! He got about seven large chips with that. We were all cold and left as soon as our meal was finished!

Best cheese and onion pie I've ever had. Husband said smash burger was best he's ever had - perfect size and great value.would definitely come again

what can i say ordered fish chips and peas only to be served a very lukewarm piece of fish that was coated in a soggy batter the chips looked as though they was days old my advice to anyone thinking of going here avoid and very expensive not worth the money

Been several times, always excellent. They do the best Caesar salad ever. Carvery very good. Service good

The food and service has greatly improved since my last family visit here. The portions are generous, the food hot and the carvery meats tender and tasty. Decently priced dishes mean that a meal here is good value. Service was prompt and friendly and nothing was too much trouble

Booked over the telephone for 2 tables , 4 plus 1 child on one and 4 plus a baby on the other for Saturday afternoon 4,30pm. Family gathering, some of which had travelled from Liverpool only to arrive and be told we can only have 4 to a table. The pub was virtually empty so lots of room to accommodate us even if we had to split up onto 3 tables, the Manager was rude, unhelpful and needs some serious customer service training . Went across the road to Woodhouse Gardens who happily accommodated us, the bill was over £200 so what a shame in the midst of a pandemic that you did not want to take our money. Will not return in the future , worst customer service ever

Well what a difference 11months makes to say we were once very good customers and have always felt very welcomed too,to feel like we were not welcomed and the service was too much trouble to say the least.The food was shocking and unedible and the customer service standards from Rodger were non existent, I know that we are living in bad times but it was the first time me and my friends had met up in months and we felt really let down,also to add insult to injury it was also shocking to hear his daughter come in and shout and swear and call her dad a name I shall not put on here but I think Rodger will know exactly what I mean! I don't think we will be returning anytime soon

14 family members attended Sunday 23 August. Pre booked side room for members. Everybody enjoyed there meal. Bar staff and waitresses were excellent. Landlord was most helpful. Will be attending again as everybody enjoyed their experience.

We were regulars before lockdown. And we called in on the 17th August about quarter to seven one room was full other two empty we made a mistake of asking cook for a table the oldish lady and she was quite abrupt towards us. We won't be coming back anymore we don't need nor want that kind of reception money will spend anywhere.

Was encouraged to try it as it had a good reputation. Unfortunately it didn't live up to it. You always take a chance with carvery, but when I saw the tongs for the veg being bunched together (what about cross contamination?) and the waitress sneezing into her hand just before cutting the dry beef I was put off my gammon - which until that point I was enjoying. The veg, though decent were luke warm at best - the wine was warmer: though that cost more than the meals. I guess as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Sorry 'bottom dog's you actually did come bottom.

Came here because people 'apparently' couldn't rate the place highly enough, but what a disappointment! Starter of chilli covered tortilla chips to share was just basic and the 'home-made' rag pudding advertised was not home made at all, it was out of a packet(just Google Jacksons Rag Pudding), and it came with oven chips! Rip off and will never return.

A lovely classic retro English bar/pub with a wide range of classic English cuisine. Would highly recommend the sirloin steak, cheese and onion pie and lamb shanks. Amazing food, great value for money!!! Overall a lovely place for a meal with the family.

Comfortable pub with an excellent atmosphere and friendly staff. We visit regularly for a friends reunion and enjoy the pubs wide range of beers and wine. There is also a good choice of food on offer, although meeting on a Sunday evening we have not sampled the food.Worth a visit

weve always gone here for a carvery which when we first started going was excellent but sad to say has now gone down ill the quality of the food on our last 2 visits has really changed the roast potatoes are terrible and the gravy is like water leaving your food swimming on your plate i dont know whats happened but wont be going again

We met up with relatives who live nearby and it was a brilliant surprise. Four of us had the carvery and one ate off the menu. The food was absolutely delicious, choice of four meats, about 6 different veggies, roast and mashed potatoes, all cooked to perfection. The gravy, trimmings and sauces were equally good. The staff were lovely, polite, friendly they actually looked happy to be working there which you don't often get nowadays. From the bar staff to the waiting staff they were all great. We really enjoyed the experience and we'll definitely be back!!

Have passed by many times but went with friends recently for the carvery. We weren't disappointed. Excellent food, generous portions and great value for money. Lovely friendly staff too. As nice a roast dinner as anyone could prepare, and cheaper than doing it yourself. I've no idea where the very few negative reviews have come from. Not our experience at all.

The last couple of times i have been the quality of the food has fallen which is a big shame and even the roast potatoes are the frozen ones the worst thing you can do to a carvery.

Excellent from start to finish, staff were great, meal was wonderful, very pleasant experience and did not cost the earth, will definitely be back.

Well, we came out for a meal on the spur of the moment this evening and what a lovely experience, staff were lovely and welcoming. In particular Sam our server was brilliant! Can’t praise him enough for his attentiveness tonight. And thanks everyone for the lovely food x

Me and my wife visted here this evening for a meal. My wife had the carvery and i tried the steak and stilton pie. The food was cooked to perfection and excellent value for money. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the service was spot on. I would highly reccommend this modern ,clean venue and will most certainly be going back.

Been going to 'The Dog' for over 30yrs.And was glad to see that after a lot of messing around it all seems to have got back nearly as it was,however my wife and I recently went for lunch(Saturday)she had ocean salad which she said was excellent,I had cheese and onion pie and chips and chips and chips,I could not get to my pie for chips,now I don't mind chips every now and then but please more pie and less chips.Other than that I thought it was excellent...

I had been advised by friends that this is a great place to eat, and decided to try out after work with a colleague. We were truly impressed by the home cooked carvery, the cleanliness of the place, and most importantly, by the friendliness of staff and the warm, homely ambience. We could not fault the Dog & Partridge and have made several visits since! It is a little gem that we are so pleased to have found... it is our new favourite carvery ; hands- down , there is no competition! We highly recommend a visit! :)

We met friends here for lunch based purely on the good reviews, and we were not disappointed. We arrived around 11.50am for a noon lunch, not realizing that they did not open until noon. When a member of staff noticed us at the door, they invited us to go in while they finished preparations for opening. This friendliness, and attention to customer service was maintained throughout our time there.

We called in when passing for a drink. It was very quiet and we weren’t sure they were open for food. As they were we ate there the service was quick and the food very good and reasonably priced

We had a lovely meal for Mother’s Day. We had booked a table which was good as it was very busy. The majority of us had the car very meal which was lovely. There were 3 sizes and we all had the medium which was substantial. The prices were very reasonable too

Was starting to think that it was us being ‘serial complainers’ after experiencing so many poor or average Sunday dinners then we came across this place. Ok the decor is a bit tired but the food was great with the meat tasting like it should. We started with a garlic ciabatta which was enough to share, then I went for the ‘medium’ carvery which was plentiful. Mrs. RTD went for Cheese and Onion pie which she commented on highly. The chips were disappointingly average and probably frozen but hey ho if they can do an upgrade on this then thumbs up all round. Staff were great (even though the young waitress kept forgetting where no8 was but we had a laugh about it. Would definitely go again and hopefully have the same experience.

This is now our unofficial office. Menus are amazing and food is fabulous. Staff so amazing and really look after all your needs. Really recommend this great diner and bar to all try as you won't be dissapointed.

Have had several lovely lunches at this pub/restaurant. Food is always excellent and portions very good. Definitely a favourite of ours.

Myself and wife had Sunday lunch carvery and it was perfect. The food was plentiful and lots of choice. All the staff we met were very friendly and Anthony is definitely a shining asset to this establishment, the banter between him and the kitchen staff prove that the cheerful atmosphere is ingrained in the place. Anthony is very attentive and helped several customers with carrying the meals back to their tables. It is rare to see customer service of this calibre, we will definitely be going back and will not hesitate to recommend this place. In addition, my wife was impressed with the cleanliness of the toilets which sadly seems to be lacking in the majority of pubs and restaurants we've recently visited.

We had large carvery's and wow they were amazing. The meat selection is extensive, as is the vegetables and the leeks in cheesy sauce are amazing. 3 lots of potato choices and 2 lots of gravy beef or turkey. What more could you want. The price is very reasonable. Definitely recommend.

2nd visit here and it's absolutely gorgeous. The food is fit. I had carvery and Antony was definitely not tight with the meat nom nom. The veg is done to my liking and is not leathered in butter to keep it looking good like other carveries. My other family members ordered off the menu and thoroughly enjoyed every bit. This is my kind of place as the greeting you receive when you walk in is just fab. Antony on both occasions has come over to the table and greeted us personally as he does every other customer who walks through the door. Me and my family have now made a pact we will travel here once a month to meet up for a good catch up and a fab meal. Thank you Antony and your team I will definitely sing your praises and recommend you to everyone I know xxx

Been here a couple of times, the Food is lovely, lots of choice, staff very friendly especially nAnthony very welcoming and always happy, can highly recommend and definitely worth a visit, I will be returning soon 😘

Went here yesterday for a family reunion/Christmas meal, there were 22 in our party and had the Christmas menu, the food was absolutely amazing and generous portions beautifully cooked the waiting staff (and Anthony) were absolute treasures nothing was too much trouble for them they did everything with a friendly smile and had some laughs with us, ive had some dodgy christmas meals in the past and was skeptical but this surpassed everything i expected it was totally amazing and excellent value, id have happily padi much mire for the quality and quantity of the food!

Great sunday roast and sticky toffee pudding to die for. A good choice of roast meats and selection of vegetables, usual roasties and yorkshire pudding, all in all worth a trip.

We attended last night, for a carvery for my wife's birthday. our party consisted of 7 people from 50+ to 13 , and we all really enjoyed our meal. The carvery is very generous, and delicious. Both me and my wife also spotted other dishes on the menu we would love to try, and we will be returning soon to sample them! Roger and Anthony are very nice hosts, and there is a very pleasant vibe to their pub.

We called in for tea on Friday and as usual was cooked well and tasty. All vegetables cooked from fresh and not frozen. A choice of meats and wide menu also.We really enjoyed our carvery meal and will be going back soon.

very friendly staff and cheap homemade food, the portions are huge and none of us could finish our meals. definitely worth visiting and we also liked how homey it felt.

Visited today for lunch. The food was very good. I was also very impressed with the cleanliness and the fantastic service. The member of staff on the carvery was extremely polite and informed us that all of the food was locally sourced. The food itself was really nice and prices were very reasonable. We will definitely be visiting again.

Just nipped in for a Carvery as always food was great. £18 for two medium carvery and two large soft drinks on a Sunday is great value.

It is years since we were last in here and decided to try it for a birthday treat. We were very pleasantly surprised ... the place is spotlessly clean, the service is professional, helpful and very efficient, the cost is reasonable but best of all the food is excellent.

took the family out for my birthday my treat most had the fantastic carvery served by the one and only anthony,me and my eldest daughter hat the rib eye steak cooked to perfection i had the pepper sauce with mine,the roast potatoes are the best ive ever had,best carvery in ashton and we have been to them all,will call again with out a doubt.

I really love this place, I enjoy going, as it’s a great atmosphere for family and for couples, the place is always clean and tidy, as are the toilets (be aware I always go of how clean toilets are, if there fine you find the place is also) any way, all I’m going to say is wow I tried the beef today on the carvery it was so tender and moist, couldn’t get enough of it, the veg is all fresh and there’s a great selection to choose from, great for vegetarians, the service is quick, Ive tried other things on the menu that are just as nice, though this is always a problem as you tend to sit there for ages debating what to have as it’s all good, though not a bad thing as then you get to drink, while you wait, great selection of beers,

Once again we ate here fantastic food and service perfectly cooked veg nice crispy spuds and tender meat from the carvery 5* all the way

We ordered Rib Eye Steaks very tender to eat, but anemic in appearance one colour throughout we had ordered medium steaks, they looked boiled and the idea of a pink middle to the steak was no where to be seen, on top of that the mash was sour and the Diane sauce was the furthest thing I have ever tasted from being a Diane Sauce maybe the comi chef was called Diane who knows. I gave some of the suspect potato to the guy to taste he agrred there was something odd about it and went away returning at a gallop past our table shouting back at the kitchen everyone is rowing about nothing, maybe he thought my vinigar flavoured potato was nothing to complain about again who knows because that was the last we heard about it, we will not be going again.

Visited today with friends and family. First time even though its only ten minutes drive away, but my normal go to pubs were booked up. 6of us 4 starters, 5 mains and one kids meal £54.00 so much cheaper than I expected. 3 of us had the carvery and served by a chatty, friendly guy. Food is largely homemade and locally sourced. The food was lovely, no room for pudding unfortunately though they looked nice too. Interior of the pub is lovely too, very nicely decorated and looked immaculately clean. Staff were lovely and friendly too. All in all a really good experience. Would recommend and will certainly be visiting again.

We had carver, very nice and a nice price too. Ideal for a flying visit and has a homemade feel to the carvery which we loved. Cracking roasters and options to choose from. Defo would go back soon

A nuestra llegada nos recibió uno de la camarera que era realmente amable. Ella nos enseñó a nuestros asientos y nos preguntó si nos gustaría bebidas, café, que era preciosa. La camarera nos dejan disfrutar de nuestro café por alrededor de 15 minutos para darnos tiempo de seleccionar del menú, y mirando alrededor podía ver lo limpio que estaba de hecho fue impecable. Cuando la camarera volvió llevó 11 pedidos para el desayuno inglés completo y más bebidas, que era una tarea y media pero la camarera sólo sonrió y nos aseguró que no era un problema, ella era realmente precioso. Dios mío qué desayuno llegó un desayuno que llenó la gran placa oval sasauge, tocino, huevos, blackpudding, patata, judías, tomates, todo cocinado a la perfección. Yo soy una persona muy exigente y créanme cuando digo que fue excelente realmente era, y no es caro.

the food was great and quick service, very clean. there was 4 adults and 3 children in our party and nothing was a problem.

go quite often for meal with family. when a 7 year old boy says its his best food,( the carvery) must say something. staff allways very nice.

Buena selección en el asador y el camarero era muy erudito, incluso el tipo de patatas utilizada. Oí el personal diciéndole a alguien que te puede pedir algo del menú principal (e. g. Pork Chop) y llene su plato con verduras, etc. desde el mostrador de carnes asadas. Cerrado los lunes.

Nice people, nice pub, clean and tidy. Carvery food not hot enough for my liking. Might try the main menu next time to see if its hotter. The food however was nice.

10 de nosotros visitamos aquí por mi padre en el cumpleaños de la ley. Una mesa había sido reservado una semana antes y ya que íbamos a estar 10 de nosotros, mi suegra nos preguntó si podíamos estar sentados en el conservatorio. Como había sido un día cálido, la puerta estaba abierta, pero en el momento en que llegamos era mucho más frío y tuvimos que pedir que la puerta se cierra. Luego tuvimos que sufrir la gente yendo y viniendo hasta el aparcamiento/mesas fuera a fumar, dejando la puerta abierta.

I was staying near by and was looking for somewhere to eat as I drove past saw the carvery signs, plenty of parking, friendly staff who greeted me and explained how to order, I had a small carvery and a soft drink cost just over £7 fantastic value and food was hot and tasty, if I'm ever in the area again would return

Esta es la segunda vez que me he comido desde que fue tomada y es el mejor asador que he tenido. La carne estaba cocinada a la perfección, enorme variedad de verduras frescas y 4 tipos de patatas. ! Salsa de carne para morirse y la tarta de masa de galletas era el cielo y el sticky toffee pudding! El personal es muy amable y servicial estupendo especialmente Debbie y Anthony - va a ser definitivamente un lugar para mí cuando me visita mi mamá como yo vivo a unos 40 minutos en coche sin duda recomendaría este restaurante o su bien si sólo quieres ir a tomar algo.

Arrived to the pub with no reservation to find the place very busy and asked for table for 2 within a min or so we were seated. Had meal it was very nice and the staff were great. I will definatley returning

decided to go for lunch on the last minute walked in the Dog it was so busy and we were starving hungry thought we wouldn't get a table squeezed in right next to carvery I didn't mind very warm but the food was deicous and the guy serving was very friendly and nice will definetly be back well done :)

Good homemade food great choices daily specials .homemade pies and soups plenty of different choices of afters. All Beers and drinks excellent staff nice. Lisa and Adam are top thanks one and all .

Randomly called in for lunch, never been in this place in my life, but wow !!! The staff was so nice and welcoming but not overbearing, we decided on carvery, the chap serving was very knowledgeable about where the meat was locally sourced, which was cooked to perfection and retained its juices, the veg also is fresh everyday, and again perfect, and the price was as cheap as chips, I can't praise this place, food and staff enough 5* from me well done

Back with a large group this time well looked after by the staff good food and we had a dessert for the famous cabinet

Mi esposo, mis dos hijos han sido hoy, tanto adultos tenía asados y la carne estaba realmente bien, verduras todo bien preparado. Los niños, una comida que tenía sobresaliente era preciosa y tenía un menú para niños, de buen tamaño.

Went for carvery (4 of us)...Super friendly staff, Lovely meals...fresh vegetables, and not kept warm for ages..would definitely recommend eating here...Live entertainment on Satuday evenings also...

The service was first class and friendly. Chicken goujons were a good choice of starter. The chilli main course whilst tasty could of been spicier. My only complaint is why did we have to have football on the tv.

Reservamos esta parrilla y Rotisería para tomar 12 compañeros de trabajo en mi almuerzo de jubilación después de 30 años con el servicio de bomberos. Fue absolutamente fantástico. La comida era tan maravilloso con hortalizas recién preparados, patatas asadas, etc. y lo más importante es que el servicio era ejemplar. El lugar es muy limpio y tiene una categoría de 5 estrellas de higiene de los alimentos (el más alto otorgado por la Agencia de estándares de alimentos). Gracias a todo el personal, especialmente después de que Anthony se parece a cada cliente con tanta dedicación. Sin duda recomiendo una visita.

Fuimos a Dog and Partridge muchas lunas atrás, y era agradable. Este pub parece que han tenido una renovación completa y ahora tiene un asador. Fuimos la semana pasada por desgracia para un funeral. La comida estaba caliente, sabroso y barato. Parece que tienen tres gamas de precio dependiendo de si quieres una pequeña rotisería, medianas o grandes. Sin duda recomendaría este lugar a cualquiera y sin duda volveremos.

No ha sido hasta el perro en las edades y me dijeron que era bueno, así que probé y no me decepcionó.

Muy buen asador, elegimos Turquía y jamón, muy bien preparadas, sumado a esto era una fantástica selección de verduras y patatas asadas que eran perfectos. En esta ocasión teníamos un postre, elegí carmel pudin, mi amigo eligió bulged tarta de manzana que con Apple, tanto los postres estaban deliciosos. Cuenta que teníamos que correr al coche para tratar de perder las calorías. bien hecho a todo el personal y mantener el buen trabajo. nuestra visita fue el 4 de julio en el mes. Pronto veremos todos

Esta fue nuestra primera visita a pesar de que sólo viven de la carretera. No nos decepcionó. Excelente, personal amable se aseguró de que estábamos sentados y conocía el menú y cómo a la orden. Ambos fuimos para el asador que era realmente bueno. Comida sabrosa con buenas porciones y una estupenda relación calidad-precio. Volveremos.
