We’ve visited The Dog and Gun several times during our holidays in Keswick, especially over the Christmas period, and it never disappoints! The food is always delicious, with a great selection that never fails to hit the spot. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making every visit even more enjoyable. It’s the perfect place to relax and unwind after a day out exploring the beautiful surroundings. Highly recommend it to anyone visiting Keswick – definitely a highlight of our trip! Also very dog friendly.

Lovely pub in the centre of Keswick, with traditional style beams and warm welcoming atmosphere. Within minutes of our arrival at 12 noon, the pub filled up, always a good sign. Staff were cheerful, friendly and helpful. Both the bar and food service were efficient. Food was very good, nicely presented and tasted lovely. Good selection of dishes are available from the menu. This pub has a greet selection of local real ales and beers. Dogs are very welcome in this pub, water bowls and treats are available for them. The interior was very cosy and looked nice having just been decorated for the festive season. Everything was immaculate and tidy.

Very popular and busy pub in Keswick. We went along on a Sunday evening, just after 5pm and luckily found a seat for 2 but do expect that it might be full and you may have to hang around a bit with a drink before getting a seat. The atmosphere is great, very friendly bar staff, plenty of good beer choices on tap and we enjoyed the food too, which was the goulash (both meaty and veggie). The only thing I'd change for next time is to order the small portion, as it was a big old bowl full! Cracking pub.

Called in for some lunch, myself and partner plus child and the mutt... Didn't really think much of the menu...not alot of stuff on it that made my mouth water... Place my order at the bar and bar tender (bald head very expressionless, none local accent) got the feeling he didn't care.. Any question I asked I felt he was rather abrupt....i had the chicken and ham pie with mash with broccoli I think it was and it was.. It was nice spot on.. Mash was best part to be honest but for what you paid I expect more on my plate... Partner had hunters chicken which she also enjoyed but same again not much on plate.. My child had chicken strips which she was happy with... Waiting on staff was brilliant, a credit to the establishment!... The place just needs to put more food on the plate for what you pay as its pretty poor and more polite and cheerful bar staff... Nice surroundings and dog friendly... If anyone is looking for a good stomach filling meal then this is not the place unfortunately... Would I return again??? Probably not.

Called in for the famous goulash late afternoon rainy Tuesday, but when I tried to order beers and 2 beef goulash was told no table available and I couldn’t order food until seated. Famous for goulash and signs all over the outside and inside pushing this speciality. We waited at bar 10 minutes until a table came free, then tried to order 2 goulash, to be told they were sold out half an hour ago! Great! Busy and lively pub, but why couldn’t they have told me that before. Others waiting for goulash too. Signature dish sold out at 430pm!! Very pricey beer too. Pub is in a great central location but owners need let people know if it’s not available. Went elsewhere for food.

Also chips had then touched rest of my food so couldn't eat. Also it shouldn't matter how serve my allergy is, it still harms someone so shouldn't say they care about allergys. Shop assistant in Penrith told us of the goulash here. Beef goulash was spot on with just enough paprika. However the vegetarian was a different recipe (yes, Meat less but different veggies too and little paprika) and twice as much black pepper as was needed. My wife can eat a korma and we said as much to barman however I ended up with my beef in the veggie and wife eating the beefless original. Bit too much pepper for me too and taste of veggies overwhelmed. Beer, staff and atmosphere were all good and seating was bench or stool rather than chairs (info for those needing some support behind them as we do).

Great cafe in a superb location offering job opportunities to young adults with disabilities surrounded by support, deserves to be a success. Really enjoyed our visit plenty of seats both inside & out, the service was great & the staff member really engaging, only minor gripe was it stated bacon baps/rolls & we got ciabatta rolls which are a different texture & more difficult to consume when slightly older, maybe worth just checking the menu & if things differ, to advise customers, that aside, still a very pleasant visit & happy to contribute to such a great cause!

Thought we would give this place a try as we saw it when coming back from Lodore Falls a few weeks ago and thought location was good. Booked Sunday lunch for 2 adults and 2 teenagers as a pre-Christmas family lunch out. On arrival no one greeted us and we waited in line at the bar to be told, not shown to, which one our table was and to come back to the bar to order. This is fine but at hotel restaurant I would expect staff to come and take our order - main course Sunday lunch £24.95, burgers the kids had £21.95 so not cheap. Inn on the Lake Glenridding for example is less expensive and far superior in location, class, service and food quality. I ordered roast beef and when it arrived I actually got lamb - no problem mistakes happen - but it did mean i had to wait for it to be replaced whilst the rest of my family ate their meals. When beef arrived it was dried out, as if heated under a grill. No one checked on us during the meal but asked if everything was ok when they came to clear. I told them my beef wasn't great - half of it uneaten - and they said i should have told them and they would have replaced. Fine, but bearing in mind i had already waited for it to be replaced once and eaten after others had finished i didn't really want to go for round 3. My meal was removed from the bill but the experience for a family lunch out was spoilt. We were in the restaurant area that doesn't allow dogs but close to the open doors to the dog friendly area - I love dogs but the smell coming through wasn't pleasant from time to time, especially when eating. Generally i think it is expensive and disappointing for what it is, pub type service and food at restaurant prices. £9.50 for puddings for example is excessive for the environment. A shame as location is great to stop for lunch if walking around Derwentwater but I wouldn't recommend based on pour experience today. As a final comment the staff did seem genuinely apologetic.
