A family festive meal...service was outstanding, nothing too much trouble. The food was perfect. The staff even put on a film for our 3 year old grandson . Definitely worth the visit !

We came on a Saturday for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by how quiet it was. We ordered using the app and both our drinks and food came really quickly. Staff were friendly but not ‘too much’. Food was decent, nothing mind-blowing but nothing to complain about. Gorgeous garden, lots of parking, easy to get around with the pushchair. Lots of lights and fairy lights for our baby to look at!

Came here as a one off for a girlie, family lunch. Each of us chose from the sandwich menu: Philly cheese steak, piri piri chicken and the fish finger sandwich. My steak was cooked beautifully along with the onions and peppers. My sister and niece also enjoyed theirs. The chips were hot; crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Good service.

We have just discovered Shardlow and love the circular walk along the canal and the Trent back into the village. We visited the Dog & Duck for lunch and were really impressed with the pub itself (immaculately clean and tidy) and the excellent beer garden. We ordered off the lunch deal menu and both had breaded mushrooms for starters followed by hunters chicken and scampi. We really enjoyed them. We'll be back!

We chose to dine here as an impromptu meal on bank holiday Monday. We got seated and ordered our meals quickly. We were charged £60+ for three of the lunch deals. Where we had calculated it to be £30+ with drinks. We went back to the bar, to where the female bar staff informed us that she was aware that this deal wasn't available on a bank holiday by her manager, however failed to inform the ordering customers this. We then learnt that we were the second group of diners who failed to be informed regarding this. She called the manager over, a young gentleman who was very kind and rectified this for us, as it is not clearly stated on the menu. As I was at the bar rectifying our bill, my relative alerted me that our deserts had been delivered, despite us ordering a three-course meal, and not having even seen our starters, let alone eaten them. The deserts were taken away, and when the manager asked the waitress to remove them she came charging over like a bull out of a gate with a tone of voice towards her manager. At this point, despite not even tasting the food, we collectively decided that we would not be returning to this establishment. Once the bill was rectified, we ate our delightfully delicious food, which was a shame as we wouldn't be returning. When our desserts arrived for the second time, we learnt that those deserts were indeed the same ones delivered 40 minutes prior and had been stored under what we thought was a heat lamp as the hot desert was tepid, and the ice cream had melted on the other two desserts. This is such a shame, as the manager was trying his hardest to maintain a good establishment, however, his staff lacked compassion within their roles.

My husband and I went for an impromptu meal on Wednesday 24th April. Husband had the steak and I had the curry which was an offer with a drink. My husbands meal came without the onion rings which are part of the meal, he mentioned to the waitress who apologised and went to arrange some be bought it. They did come out however ten minutes later by which time the rest of his meal was almost eaten. My curry came with a nan bread the nan bread came out hard, again pointed this out to the waitress who again agreed to have a fresh one bought, by the time it came out the curry was cold as the whole meal hadn’t been taken away. I couldn’t be bothered to mention again as my appetite with the meal had long gone and didn’t want to draw attention to other diners nearby so we left. We have dined many times at the dog and duck and had a nice meal ,the venue is lovely as is the garden, the staff are very friendly and obliging it’s just a shame on this occasion it didn’t go well.

Nice early dinner at The Dog & Duck. Dog friendly pub with water bowls and free treats for our pooch. Mixed grill was great value, tasty and plenty of it. Steak was overcooked (well-done when I asked for med rare) but tasty nevertheless. Wife had the chicken burger which she enjoyed. Good service. Would come back.

We came sunday lunch time the roast dinners were amazing. Our waitress Ellie took our order at the table she really went above and beyond. Thank you for making my mums birthday one to remember.

Called in on the off chance we would be able to get a table. It was busy due to a charity event but plenty of tables still available. We opted for the plated Sunday lunch. I can easily say this is the best plated Sunday lunch I have had. Plenty of meat and vegetables, all very hot and full of flavour. Excellent value for money. We did think the drinks were a bit expensive but think this is the same in most pubs now. Highly recommend and will definitely be back.

As it was my mums birthday I wanted to take her somewhere we hadn't been before and I wanted a nice pub. After much research, I chose the dog and duck. The reviews before March weren't great, but reading that they had a new manager, I decided to take a chance, and I'm glad I did. We had a fantastic experience. The staff were lovely. Especially the lady who served us. Don't know her name, but she had blonde hair. We did wait half an hour for food even though it wasn't busy, and we had to then wait another 5 mins for my steak as the wrong sauce was made. But it was worth the wait. The food was delicious and was hot. All in all, it was a great meal to celebrate my mum. I'll definitely be back, especially in the summer, as they have a play area for kids.

I was lucky enough to win a Facebook competition to win 2 main courses. Food was lovely and the staff are amazing. All staff that we came into contact with were friendly, happy and very helpful. Lovely place will definitely be returning.

We went on Sunday for a rearranged Christmas Lunch. Christmas Day was a disaster. We waited for over an hour for our 1st course. One of our party was taken ill., so we left. The service was a joke to be honest, not enough staff and all young. The meal was re- arranged for last Sunday. What a difference we were totally looked after the meal itself was very good and plentiful. I understand it is under new management and what a difference. We will certainly go again. Thank you to the new management team.
