I would say the best roast lunch for miles three different sizes to choose from and the potions are very generous. All fresh vegetables and fresh meat the staff are friendly and nothing is a problem.. The Guinness is very good too

Great food and service We came for Sunday lunch, and chose the large roast meals. The roasts were excellent, we chose two meats each, vegetables were in abundance with two big Yorkshire puddings. This was a plated meal, with hindsight the medium meals might have been better for us those with a gigantic appitates ok. We chose a lemon cheesecake and berry crumble for sweet.

Turned up without booking as we were in the area but a table was found for us. A huge menu with plenty of vegetarian options for us. I had the vegetable lasagne and my husband had the shepherdless pie. Both meals were delicious. My husband said it was the best pint of Abbott ale that he’d ever had. We were served the meal by a lovely young lad who was really helpful. Will definitely return.

Have visited this is pub for years now and love it. Today I was with my Mom and met a few new staff faces. We were on table 1 and although I didn't catch the names of the two girls who served us they were polite and attentive but Khan was a joy, what a lovely young man

Glen and all is staff as always excelled themselves. We have been enjoying our monthly get togethers for many years and this month we had a few extra. Glen and his staff graciously moved us to their garden room. As always the meals were well cooked ( one of best Gammons I have had) and served together. So next month already booked.

Fantastic pub meal for mother's day today. Lovely cozy atmosphere with log fires. the Sunday lunch was booked for our mom's as a mothers day treat, all home cooked with a great price. 3 size choices , all meats to choose from, with every veg you can think of, stuffing and Yorkshire pud. Been past this place many times and always promised ourselves we'd go in. We'll definitely be going back. We both had a pie with pastry top. Steak & ale and steak & kidney. A wide variety of sides are offered, veg, chips, salad and you can even pick whether you want a pastry or mash topping. They don't just do pies. The menu offers a range of pub classics and if they're anything like what we had they will all be top top quality. The staff were excellent, the service was as good. It's sort of hidden away but it's definitely worth a visit. Next time I'll be getting a taxi so I can sample one the ales they offer. Very glad we've been. It won't be the last time.

Had a lovely Saturday lunch fish and chips mushy peas excellent hubby had minted lamb and chips first class, would definitely recommend. Staff friendly and welcoming. Will definitely visit again.

Just back from the pub now. I wanted a traditional pub meal at a traditional pub, and was not disappointed! Simple ham, egg and chips and mushy peas - beautiful ham, 2 nicely cooked free range eggs and absolutely gorgeous chips. Everyone there was lovely and friendly which made the brief visit perfect. Highly recommended!

Visited on different days at lunch time and this is such a lovely pub. Warm and cosy with lovely open fires. Staff are so friendly and work so hard. Clearly customer service is extremely important to them and they do it so very well. The menu is very extensive and some may think this would affect the food quality but it’s absolutely not the case. I had tried various meals and all were outstanding. You do have to wait longer for them but they are all freshly pre and well worth the wait. Sunday lunch was the best I have ever had. Do not just turn up at the weekend and expect to get a table as you will most likely be disappointed. It gets packed and I can see why. The dog and partridge and the staff are a hidden gem which is well worth a visit.

We were pleasantly surprised. First time here for us. Really quirky place, little areas for eating that we stepped down to. Seemed quite busy and noisy. We’d booked a table so we sat and waited, not for long though as the waitress came over to take our drinks order. There were menus on the table which was the most extensive menu I’ve seen for a long time. Our order for food was taken by a pleasant young woman. Our starters were generous portions and so were our main meals. The food for the price was a decent amount and of good quality. We both enjoyed our food and drinks. The place was a bit shabby but it looked clean and a full pub tells a story I think. We’ll be back as the saying goes.

Unfortunately, this is the first time in several years of using TripAdvisor to choose places to eat that the rating has been misrepresentative. The staff were friendly but the pub is cluttered and very tired even scruffy. The food was average at best. One to avoid I am afraid.

Fantastic food and most importantly the lady who was working the bar had amazing customer service she was polite pleasant and helpful. She made the while visit a wonderful experience and I will definitely return shes a credit to the pub.

Dropped in for lunch (16/11/2023) with my wife, father-in-law and our dog and had a great experience. Happy, friendly staff made us feel welcome from the start - and treats for the dog are always welcome! Friendly locals too, with none of the usual "competitive swearing" that often gets in the way of an enjoyable family outing. All the food we ordered was excellent, undoubtedly the widest ranging menu I've seen in ages - we had 10oz Ribeye, Hunters Chicken and the 10oz Burger and all were perfect. The doggy menu is great too, 4oz steak and mash (with gravy, of course) hit the spot perfectly, a generous portion of good quality food including carrots and peas, there wasn't a trace left by the time she was done. Overall, a great place to visit - we'll definitely be returning to work our way through more of the menu.

Good food, very pleasant staff, wide choice of menu. I had chicken tikka curry and my husband had, he says, the best steak and kidney pie he's ever had. He was in 7th heaven as his tipple of choice is a pint of Porter and they had this on draught. And very nice it was too - everything. Its not a place to go if you want to dress up, its casual, comfortable but very good food.

This is a great pub, tucked away off the A5. Great selection of lagers and ales. The homemade ham baguette was lovely. Cant wait to try it in the evening when its a bit busier for the atmosphere. Very strongly recommended.

Very lovely pub and great staff. I asked for garlic breaded mushrooms, but got mushrooms with sour cream 😔. Personally I would of liked a thicked sauce in my turkey, ham and leek pie. Apart from that we'll be back again 😁

I've only ever been here for drinks, but last night me and my partner and I came for food, and I can certainly see why you're always so busy. The food was outstanding! The food menu is very large, and you're the only establishment I've ever visited, which offers a doggy menu, and it's awesome. We had the breaded mushrooms and filo king prawns for starters and 12oz gammon and hunters chicken for mains. Best meals I've ever eaten in a pub, and I can safely say you have gained 2 new regulars because we will definitely be coming back. The whole experience from the moment we walked in, to the second we left, was amazing. Thank you

Lovely homely pub, visited with family last night to celebrate Mom & Dad's Wedding Anniversary. The staff were welcoming, friendly, courteous, couldn't do enough for you and the food was absolutely delicious. All meals came out together, they were piping hot and the meals were presented very well on the plates. Would 100% definitely recommend anyone to visit, we shall certainly be going back that's for sure. Special mention to HANNAH - she was so helpful, kind and extremely considerate towards us - my Dad has Dementia but Hannah treated him like everyone else, chatted to him, had a laugh with him, which made him feel very comfortable in his surroundings and made us feel at ease being there too, well done Hannah and thank you x

We had a lovely, relaxed Saturday lunch after a shopping trip, The atmosphere was friendly & the staff were welcoming & we didn’t feel at all hurried. There was a new member of staff being trained but she was being encouraged by her lovely trainer & was growing in confidence as a result. Friends with whom we stayed and who live in the area booked lunch here and my wife and I were a long way from home.It was our treat. The internal ambiance was very good and our friends even had their name on our [nice] reserved table which I thought was a pleasing touch. The tables were reasonably well occupied but by no means full. When I went to the bar where others were being served I was told to go to my table as my order would be taken there.I was unfamiliar with some of the beers and wanted to ask about them and when our waitress eventually came she too was unfamiliar with the drinks and had to take advice at the bar! [In fairness,she was new to her role] Our food was excellent-every course-but the service was very poor.We had three different waitresses and no personal attention whatsoever ,even to ask if everything was OK.I was several minutes trying to attract a waitress to ask for a glass of wine.The bar was totally unattended for some time and eventually I saw the male manager[owner?] at the bar and called out for a drink. It was obvious that there was a shortage of staff [Brexit!] and ,whilst it was annoying to be on the receiving end,I felt sorry for the girls.The new girl told us later that she had been called to help with the washing up in the kitchen [I did glance into the kitchen later and no wonder!] Before paying my bill,I asked to speak to the manager.He was the same man who had arranged my drink. I complimented him on the excellence of the meal but then expressed our dissatisfaction with the service.He apologised and said that there was a staff shortage.I accepted his apology and requested a gesture of compensation-after all,the cost for our visit included food and service at the table.We were well over two hours at our table.He was clearly unconcerned and invited me look at Tripadviser regarding the reputation of the establishment.He then said that in any case,the current economic circumstances were such he could not make such gestures! Hopefully if you [the reader] go,you will have good service and if so you are sure to enjoy your visit-especially the food.The choices are massive too.I just hope you do not need to speak to the man to whom I spoke for his customer concern leaves much to be desired
