Dobbies Garden Centre Restaurant in Glasgow City

Dobbies Milingavie is by far the best restaurant connected to Dobbies by a mile. Been here three times now and the food is absolutely delicious. The staff are amazing and do their utmost to make your day such an enjoyable experience. Lasagne is absolutely delicious and friends had fish and chips and macaroni cheese washed down with a fantastic latte. I absolutely can't fault anything about the place and after reading some of the reviews I absolutely can't understand the negativity. Please give it a go and I'm sure you will enjoy it the way I do.

Very poor service, lack of staff and management sadly lacking. 20min wait for a coffee- not acceptable. No one clearing tables, and customers getting frustrated. When coffee and scones eventually arrived - they were ok. Management need to take notice urgently.

What has turned Dobbies being previously being a pleasant couple of hours visit to this down at heel garden centre? I’ve been visiting this store for 50+ years, but no more! The restaurant is shambolic despite several expensive makeovers during the last few years. The coffee is cold, the cakes and sandwiches unappetising and the service non-existent. Someone in Dobbies should take a long hard look at how badly managed the place has become.

Enjoyed afternoon tea served at Dobbies Milngavie. Good selection of savoury and sweet items. Couldn’t manage to eat everything but took a doggy bag home. Just one thing to point out, had to look for a member of staff to get more tea.

Wife and I went for lunch, hadn't been for a while. We had lovely soup and a sandwich and coffees. Good value, nice friendly staff and great table service. Dont need to queue. Bought some hanging baskets before leaving. Definitely will be back.

Came out of soft play to order some good for my wife,myself and two grandchildren. Told we would have to wait about 10 minutes,after hearing one staff member telling another that "they don't want lunch,only sandwiches".Ordered,taking an interminable time to listen to various 'options",most of which were not available,then waited about 20 minutes for food to arrive,with our tea,which arrived instantly,cold by then. Had ordered soft drinks for myself and grandchildren,which did not arrive until we asked twice for them.My wife sent back the hard,crumbly scone she was given,and my grandson was unable to eat his fish fingers,which were super hot and inedible for the whole time we were there.Like others,remember many better experiences in old restaurant .Surely change should not make service and product worse? A rotten experience,which we paid £32 for. Will not be back.

Truly awful, a once great well loved meeting point for friends and family is sadly no longer recognisable. I honestly thought it couldn’t have got any worse, and yet again it has. Coffee was acrid and undrinkable, staff member was rude ignorantly stating at 2.50 a part was cafe was closing and ordering us to the back of the restaurant. Cakes are priced ridiculously and not particularly appetising. I used to really enjoy visiting this venue but it’s lost its way. We walked out leaving our coffees barely touched, and will never return unless there is a change of management. Huge problems that have been unaddressed for years now.

I have just read some previous reviews and wholeheartedly agree with most comments. Only two waitresses take orders , one ‘ shows you to your table’ One waiter ..acting supervisor ..brings some food. All with a very long wait. Last 3 visits were to incorporate a visit to soft play for granddaughter. 11,15 am visit could not order chips for wee one…it’s still only breakfast service and fryers don’t start until 11.30. Husband couldn’t have pickle on cheese toastie… not on menu. 12.15 am visit granddaughter can’t have toast. That’s a breakfast item.. can’t put a piece of bread in a toaster. I had soup with very cold almost frozen Italian bread…for the second time. Would have left but for the fact that the granddaughter wanted to go into the soft play which has been just about empty on the last 3 occasions despite having to book the day before. When asked why these policies were in place the reply was that head office dictate these processes. Head office don’t seem to have the needs of their customers as a priority. Staff on the whole are pleasant but working under difficult circumstances whilst trying to please customers. Food menu isn’t particularly inspiring either. Won’t use the restaurant again. Would not recommend..not a pleasant experience.

Since Dobbies have refurbished their restaurant it has gone “downhill” We’ve been several times expecting it to be better, how wrong were we. On one occasion we had to wait 15mins for someone to get us a table, then told us we would have to wait at least 20mins for someone to take our order only to be told there was no Scampi, Fish or Ham. Another time we ordered soup and they only had one type of soup. The service was shocking only 2 waitresses taking orders and one we were told was finishing at 2pm. We weren’t the only people complaining, numerous said they had complained. Wouldn’t go back.

Arrived for lunch at Dobbies Garden Centre in their new restaurant. There was no-one at the entrance to allocate a table. They turned up ten minutes later and informed us that our order couldn’t be taken for 20 minutes. Not all the tables were taken and we decided to go elsewhere.

Appalling service, rude staff, empty shelves throughout shop and many facilities in Ladies out of order. A thoroughly disheartening experience.

We came out for lunch here 6/2 with my puppy and elderly mother. We were given menus and were told someone would gone to take our order. After waiting almost 40 minutes, a waitress came over and proceeded to take the order of a table of 6 who came in after us. We were sitting waiting for a waitress before this table even arrived! Then a waitress (older lady with mousey blonde hair tied back hair in a pony tail) came over and very angrily told me to take my puppy off the table. My puppy was NOT on the table, my arm was. No apologies for the length of time we were sitting there, no order had been taken still btw! We got up and walked out and went next door to the tickled trout where the food and customer service was exceptional. We had planned to spend a lot of money in the shop but now we won’t be back. Don’t waste you’re good money it, it’s attritions.

Coffee and cake , ridiculous prices for a slice of cake so passed , the service wasn’t just slow it was standstill , won’t be back, far too expensive and service deplorable

This is excellent with really friendly staff, and the food is delicious much better than a Harvester. Delicious food and a dog area. I’m not sure if this is still the case but they even had a piano played at lunch.

Sad to see the decline in this restaurant since refurbishment. New system is not working or efficient. Queued 20 mins for a coffee, one very hard working lady serving (hence the score of 2 not 1). I counted 5 members of staff on the ‘floor’, not over worked but not one came to assist the poor lady behind the counter. Poor management….

Had yet more cool coffees which I had to return, replacements not much better, tasteless coffee and dry fruit scones, decor so bland we could be in a work cafeteria, it was a lot better before the changes, we only go as we have card for free coffee, but now find it hard to cancel. NOT IMPRESSED

Service is unbelievably bad for lunch. We had been a few weeks before for coffee and waited 15 minutes in queue to be served !!! The 2 young people that were on duty were really working hard,just needed more staff. Yet there were 3 staff on the floor who did not appear very busy Used to enjoy going but will not be back.

We took our 2 year old Grandson to see Santa - what a well oiled wheel this experience was. Santa’s Grotto was beautifully done with a lovely range of plants and shrubs - an activity for our Grandson to participate with a very friendly Elf. Loads of fake deer to see and feed with carrots. Nice bales of hay and benches to sit on too. All the Elves were extremely pleasant and welcoming and Santa himself was a true gem, taking both an interest in our Grandson and even took the dogs lead to incorporate her into one of the many photos we were able to take. What a leisurely experience - nothing was rushed at all. This Santa was a total star - Thank you for a lovely visit Santa - Merry Christmas 🎄🎄

Arrived at restaurant to be greeted by a lovely lady. Said we wanted a breakfast roll . Gave us menu and was told someone will come and take order. Nobody came after 5 mins. Then same lady appeared at 11.31 and said sorry breakfast finishes at 11.30 we were in restaurant at 11.20 . Said we would take a toastie oh it will be another 10 mins before they serve lunches . We left . A big restaurant like that and they cant make a toastie for anither 10 mins .first and last time for us at dobbies

Poor Service...again. thought I'd give the coffee shop a second chance. Big mistake. The service is so bad..the food poor and the whole set up is shambolic. Staff are slow and inexperienced. It wasn't even busy but still the staff floating about not doing much. I can only assume there is no Manager. It is weird as the other Dobbies cafe at Braehead is so much better. They really should just close the cafe at the Milngavie Dobbies

We love going to Dobbies on a weekly basis and decided to grab some lunch while we were there. Although there were plenty of staff it took a long time to get anyone's attention. We sat down and ordered a sandwich with some chips. The sandwich came but no chips and no explanation as to why. I ordered a fish finger an tartare sauce sandwich which came with no tartare sauce and was very dry. Side salad was just raw onion. Half way through the sandwich I got up and found a staff member to say I had not received this. The staff member said that they were making a new batch. Around 20 mins later and still nothing. We paid the bill and asked for the chips to be removed. Again no explanation as to why we did not receive this. It took 10 mins after asking for it to be removed from the bill to have it removed. Will not be eating here again.

Popped in for a quick lunch while browsing plants. Asked harrassed young woman if it was table service and she said to sit and a menu would be brought. 5 minutes later menu came and were told someone would take our order. So, we sat and sat and waited. Decided to leave and was stopped by a waitress who told someone who had been studiously ignoring everyone to take our order. When our order eventually came (soup and sandwiches), the sandwiches were made from the cheapest white 'bread', accompanied by the smallest bowl of soup I've ever been served. It was akin to a child's portion. And the cost? £8.75 EACH! You really are having a laugh, Dobbies, which is more than we got from the unhappy looking staff. First and last visit for sure. Really, really poor.

The staff are hit or miss! Soup portion was shockingly too small, ideal for a 2 year old. I mentuined this politely to staff and one began to argue with me. Im surprised this venue is still open. The place has been modernised but attitudrs remain the same, POOR. This is not value for money.

Unbelievably poor. Shown to a table while being told, “ it may be a long ti e before someone comes to take your order” sat for a good 20 mins before someone came. Asked for a toasted and a plain and fruit scone warmed up. Told they couldn’t warm the scones but there was a microwave we could use! Daughters toastie came within two minutes. Poor presentation, overcooked dry ham and minimal cheese. Waited 10 minutes after that and still no cold scones, cold drinks or coffees. Spoke to waitress who checked with the kitchen. She returned to say there was a backlog of orders ( eh? Toastie in 2 min?) and it wouldn’t be long. Another ten minutes, spoke to waitress again. Finally our scones arrived. One on a late with NOTHING…had to ask for butter so back to the kitchen she went. Drinks then delivered. Had to ask for glasses for coke- back to the kitchen and we were given two WET glasses. No sugar…back she goes and plops three sachets down. No spoon so Mum used her knife to stir! £27.00 for this crap. Absolutely appalling service. Worst food ever and customer service is zero. We will not return. Don’t waste your money going there! It was better ( not great, but definitely better) before!! What a shambles.

This is the first time I’ve been here for food since it’s been refurbished. Why did they change this ? The service is poor to non existent and the care of staff is shocking. So long to wait. Supposedly there is a ‘list’ system when you are seated and your order is taken by the list order. Doesn’t seem to work as definitely 2-3 folks got served well before they got to us. When we mentioned this we were emphatically told it’s by this magical ‘list’ Wouldn’t be back that’s for sure.

Awful coffee shop. Haven't been for years but used to do lovely hot food. Now is just a small coffee bar with VERY inexperienced young staff. The layout is ghastly like a huge works canteen. Who on earth thought this renovation was a good idea. Avoid the hot chocolate. Cheap and like cold brown sludge. Never thought I would be giving a Dobbies one star but seriously you need to rethink this shambolic mess

Refurb or not the coffee shop service hasn’t changed. Slow, inexperienced staff and a total lack of basic skills. The coffee machines are as slow as the slugs I’m here to find a remedy for. I will not be returning for anything again. Far better elsewhere.

The hard working staff a Dobbies Restaurant have had to put up with several renovations & grief from non undertanding members of the public. The cafe is now back to a beautiful open plan design, and table service. we were greeted by Maureen who saw us to our table, and very quickly approached by a waitress Amy, who took our order. The special offer for 2 traditional breakfasts is a delicious and inexpensive option. They also allow younger children to eat free when accopanied by a full paying adult. Our meal arrived very promptly, even though the restaurant was busy. Every item in the breakfast was tasty and delicious. Amy returned to confirm everything was satisfactory. Now the refurbishment is over I recommend you give it a try. It is a really pleasant experience.

I have visited the restaurant for years and always enjoyed a coffee and cake. I was also a member. Since the restructuring of the cafe (which includes a weird coffee van inside it) it has sadly gone down hill to the point it is unrecognisable. Appalling customer service (expect an average wait of 30 min for a coffee). Standing a a queue, frustrated, exhausted and going no where fast listening to other waiting customers (some of whom are elderly and vulnerable) complaining etc. Staff in the van have no sense of urgency or regard for customers who have been waiting for a considerable length of time. I think they should close the place until they are able to offer acceptable customer service, as it is now an embarrassment in the local area. Avoid at all costs!

For the last 4 years I've been visiting Dobbies Bearsden with my young family. I have noticed that the service has steadily declined over this time. The restaurant seems to have a strategy to slowly worsen the service which is noticeable with every visit. This appears to be due to poor management as the que times and hoops to jump through seem to increase. It's become a rigid corporates slow food establishment. Que times are increasingly long, extra long wait times on food, low quality food and drinks, flexibility of sandwich making has become non existent, extra faff for a visit to soft play, ticket checkers and alloted time slots. Everything that used to be good about Dobbies Bearsden is gone, the place has gone down the toilet.

have recently been twice to shop at dobbies, milngavie, and twice have had to walk away from the restaurant due to long queues. why have they changed the layout, is it permanent, if so, will not be shopping at dobbies, milngavie in the future.

Second visit since refurbishments. The first visit was very busy long queues and only one member of staff on refreshment bar who was also having take payments. Back today 9/2/23 and no queue, store very quiet. Still slow service because the lady has to make the teas/coffee then take the payments. The store was cold and the restaurant area had a fair bit of litter(paper napkins). The gents toilet are in need of serious investigation into sewage smell but clean. The ladies toilets I am told are dirty and littered. My regular Dobbies is far superior, staff friendliness and helpful Don’t know what has happened to Milngavie but all is not well.

Waiting time for coffee now 30 mins. This has been complained about on various reviews and review sites and it still not improved.

Visited the Milngavie store during lockdown in a rush to find garden furniture and arrange a delivery. Kirstin (Kirsten ?sp) the Operations Manager was very helpful, efficient and practical. She patiently helped me find great furniture (very quickly) and whilst I then purchased some other garden equipment she checked other stores and available drivers to ensure that I could get the equipment collected and shipped to Fife within a few hours of purchase for a same day delivery. Really impressed with the service and her diligence. Asked how best to thank her for such good service ..... and she just asked that we acknowledge it on Trip advisor !!!

No es exagerado decir que Dobbie, Milngavie, ha sido una parte esencial de nuestra familia durante muchos, muchos años. Hemos llevado a familiares y amigos por el famoso café y bollos; cada año nuestro jardín se inunda con coloridas plantas, plantas perennes y arbustos; todas nuestras herramientas de jardín se han comprado a lo largo del tiempo; y la estructura misma del jardín se ha construido desde el departamento exterior. Mi madre recibió 95 de vales por su 95º cumpleaños y realizamos el almuerzo fúnebre en el conservatorio después del entierro de sus cenizas. Mi madre amaba a Dobbies y todavía estaba de visita después de su centésimo cumpleaños. En su funeral se citaron incidentes de amabilidad del personal y cada visita posterior, aún agradable, guarda preciosos recuerdos. Esta mañana no hubo excepción. Al llegar sintiéndome viejo y cansado, y sin poder hacer frente a un problema que fue totalmente de mi propia creación, el gerente y January lo solucionaron con gran amabilidad y generosidad de espíritu. Al agradecerles su ayuda en esta ocasión en particular, quisiera decir cuánto hemos apreciado a Dobbie durante muchos, muchos años. ¡Gracias!

¡Tuve que parar aquí esta mañana para hacer una llamada telefónica y la batería de mi auto se agotó! El personal no podría haber sido más útil. Afortunadamente, la mujer de cabello oscuro en el servicio al cliente tenía pistas para saltar y dos muchachos muy amables que trabajaban en la tienda pusieron en marcha mi automóvil en poco tiempo a pesar del clima impredecible. ¡Qué contraste con la fría recepción de los 3 "caballeros" en el lavadero de autos de al lado! ! ! ¿A mis padres también les gustaba en Dobbies? Conseguimos todo lo que necesitábamos, el café estaba bien. Te dan un timbre cuando pides la comida. Cuando se dispara con una fuerza que debe registrarse en la escala de Richter, usted va y recoge su pedido. Pensé que les tomó un poquito atrapar el pollo, pero se dedicó mucho tiempo a escuchar y hablar con el encantador hombre (Sam) que tocaba el piano. El es una estrella. We have been several times & always through mm enjoy the pianist he plays lots of music with enthusiasm & has a huge talent we had the pleasure of meeting Sam today he is an interesting young man with lots of knowledge on different subjects. We found out he plays piano on his break times Dobbies Sam is a asset please get him out of the kitchen to entertain customers he should be on a world class stage Well Done Sam keep playing

I’m a regular visitor to Dobbies, having elderly relatives who seem to feel the need to gravitate there for tea and a scone or two. The shop staff are great. Friendly and helpful. No criticism there what so ever.The cafe/ restaurant... god where do I start. Cakes, scones good. Cooked food decidedly below average with soggy chips, soup tasting burnt ( not on ever occasion) and sandwiches ( egg mayo) with NO seasoning whatsoever( inedible). It’s all overpriced ( good or bad) and if I wasn’t with relatives I wouldn’t even have a tea or coffee there.The shop itself has some very nice items ( again overpriced) and similar items are available cheaper elsewhere. You’d need a second mortgage for the garden furniture. Plants/ garden items. Good quality & worth the spend.

The separate room seemed a bit clinical despite Christmas decorations but did have Christmas music playing and crackers. Sandwiches, scones, cream and jam and cream cakes were tasty and plentiful. The availability of refills was good but the tea was a bit weak. Service was also good. The price was not excessive so overall an enjoyable Christmas treat. The only thing that irked me was the cups being placed upside down on the saucers before we sat down; I know it’s the done thing at breakfast but it was a bit off putting as the cup bottoms were stained. It would have looked much better to just see the clean top of the cup!

Myself and my partner had breakfast here recently, the standard of food was really poor, the beans were cold, bacon hard and the toast was also brick hard

I have emailed the manager directly about the following and have been ignored: no reply, even though it concerns the safety of children-really poor.Carers of children have to queue for soft play tickets with their toddlers in the same queue as for hot drinks. This is extremely dangerous : I have witnessed a few close calls as carers try to manage uying a soft play ticket with keeping their youngsters out of danger. Why is the enormous front desk not used for soft play tickets?

I just wanted to write this review because when I was looking to book I couldn't find any for it!We absolutely loved breakfast with Santa, I thought it was really well organised and well worth the money. Santa himself was the best one I've seen and spent lots of time coming round and talking to all the children and posing for pictures! The event is about an hour and a half with breakfast served first, then making Christmas tree decorations, then decorating a chocolate brownie followed by story time with Santa and then the children got their gift - which was also good quality and age appropriate(my 2 year old got a lego duplo set!)I would highly recommend this event

Visited around 4pm on a Sunday and was surprised that they were already wrapping up cakes etc. when the cafe doesn't close until 5.30pm. I should have taken the hint. The food seems pricey for what is a relatively basic cafeteria in a Garden Centre. I had to go and find somebody to pay as nether till was manned. Then came the biggest surprise, the seating area was a mess of uncleared tables with food on the floor throughout. While dropping food says something about the patrons it also says a lot about the general management or lack of it. Not a great experience.

Visité la tienda Dobbies Milngavie el fin de semana pasado con algunos miembros de la familia y tuve un hermoso día. La tienda se ve increíble, no puedo creer la cantidad de trabajo y esfuerzo que debe haber llevado con todas las decoraciones y exhibiciones festivas. El personal merece un aumento de sueldo jajaja! Hablando del personal, recuerdo haber hablado con una joven mujer, Kirstin, creo que ese era su nombre de memoria: era excepcional y dejó una gran impresión que fue más allá, siendo un verdadero crédito para la tienda. En general, diría que esta tienda fue la Dobby mejor presentada que he visitado y tiene el personal más amable. 10/10! !

I love Dobbies at Christmas, lunch is always delicious dog friendly too. There are lots of deals on just now and don't forget to book a visit to Santa for all those good children.

On Arrival Maureen and her staff from the Resaurant guided us to the conservatory where our afternoon Tea was to be served.

Our usual haunt for goodies, coffee and generally anything. This time we visited on a 20% off weekend and the place was full of people despairing to make a killing. Best to visit in normal times!

Really disappointing. Expensive, yet like canteen. Takes ages to get food, slow service different food ready at different times, and is cold by the time you are eventuallly able to eat it. Very poor value for money. Rethink urgently required.

Estuve hoy con mi amigo para echar un vistazo, pastel y un café. Tenía una pierna fracturada en yeso y no podía ponerle peso, así que estaba en una silla de ruedas. Fue una distracción encantadora de estar atrapado en la casa durante las últimas semanas. En la cafetería, el personal hizo todo lo posible para ayudarnos, conseguir platos, llevar la bandeja y encontrar una mesa mientras mi amigo manejaba la silla de ruedas. No puedo hablar lo suficiente de esas pequeñas cosas que realmente significan mucho cuando eres vulnerable y no eres tan capaz. Muchas gracias.

Gran centro de jardinería y tienda de regalos donde disfrutamos del área exterior que muestra una gran variedad de plantas, flores, arbustos y árboles, todo presentado en un entorno atractivo, siempre hay un miembro del personal dispuesto a responder cualquier pregunta de jardinería. Dentro del Garden Center encontrará una gran selección de plantas de interior, regalos y tiendas de ropa que abundan. Para finalizar nuestra visita, tomamos té / café en la gran tetería ocupada que tiene una buena selección de deliciosos pasteles, bollos y comidas principales, todo servido por un personal muy amable y alegre. También cuenta con un pequeño salón de comidas con mostradores de carne y pescado fresco, junto con una panadería que tiene una excelente selección de pan y pasteles. Este es un lugar habitual nuestro y siempre es una buena manera de pasar una tarde entre semana.

My sister and a friend had afternoon tea here today and thoroughly enjoyed it. Maureen was very attentive and helpful and the food was delicious. Thanks!

The single common thread that runs through the staff here is complete disillusionment with their employment, and as a result effort and accomplishments are as low as I have seen anywhere. Food ordered was shepherds pie and mashed potatoes. Simple enough. The pie was “difficult to describe”. The mash was so dry it was suggested that gravy would be advisable. As an aside, the roast potatoes had actually been left to sprout shoots which were then roasted with the potato, giving a black spiky look to each tattie, ala WW2 mine style. What a place.

Went for breakfast which we've done before. The eggs were solid, the bacon was rock hard as was the Loren sausage, the black pudding and the potato scone. The plates were cold so the mushrooms and beans lost heat quickly. Not the fresh breakfast we remember
