Do not place any online orders with Dobbies. Very poor customer service and short staffed so they do not resolve issues related to items delivered damaged. Emails sent to their customer service sit unanswered for at least a week and when you call their customer service number they tell you to just wait until someone replies to the email. Completely ineffective. Waste of money, effort and time

We stopped for tea and cakes, dreadfully slow service, still relying on pen and paper to take orders. Took almost 25 minutes to get served and they were not that busy. Apparently the tables and chairs have just been replaced and upgraded. What Dobbies need to do is to upgrade their service at the till like other garden centres have done with electronic ordering and table locators. Very poor.

It was once a really nice garden centre and a place you could spend hours browsing… since the refurb it no longer feels like a garden centre. There were only 2 stands of houseplants all with very boring typical plants, half the stock that was previously there gone too. they seem to have replaced anything green with trampolines and clothes. Disappointing experience

Female member of staff. No name badge. Stocking up gifts in xmas sale area so abrupt and borderline rude. Long black hair. You really should NOT work in retail or anywhere where there are customers. It's the customers who pay your salary always remember this because we will think twice now before returning to this store....

The £20 Santa Paws experience was an absolute rip off. Amateurish is the only world to describe the set up and execution. I feel like doing a chargeback as I did not get what was set out. The promise was that Santa and the elves would play with your dog. This did not happen. Santa, was dressed in a cheap outfit, there was no room for a dog larger than a chi to sit on him so my small spaniel was hanging on for dear life and was uncomfortable and stressed. Large dogs could sit between his legs though. He was a very nice man though the helpers wete polite but they were not trained for this role nor given the right equipment The £10 photo ‘ professional package’ promised consisted of one digital snap for which you have to send off, no professional photographer, just the regular staff who didn’t even know how to work the camera, let alone take a good photo. The promised ‘range of toys’ consisted a very cheap toy was not suitable for a dog my size and they had no alternatives.

Dobbies is a large garden centre just by Brighton race course, on the outskirts of Brighton. It has everything you'd expect from a garden centre, plants, seeds, equipment, garden furniture plus a pleasant cafe. There is also a selection of clothes and gifts and a Waitrose essentials concession and a Cook (frozen food) concession as well. There is also a large Pet's Corner store within Dobbies, offering just about anything you could need for your cat, dog or other furry (or feathered) friend. Also a grooming parlour.

The staff are friendly and helpful, and the most positive attribute to the store. The parking is easy, and views and walks from the carpark are lovely. There is a good plant selection, and staff are helpful with tips and advice. So why 3 stars? The small Waitrose is bizarrely stocked- with random selection of items, and lacks essentials. They have mainly focussed on ready meals, I'm guessing for the more elderly customer. There is rarely fruit & vegetables and when there is there are hard to locate. Multiple eilse have seats, cakes, chocolate which has been prioritised over more staple food options. It feels like if you ate only from what Dobbies has to offer you may suffer from high cholesterol or heart conditions. When it was Sainsbury's as the partner it was better equipped as an in-house food store. Then there is the area of house stuff - so much plastic, short-life stuff- bits and bobs. As a garden centre it really lacks having any sustainability conscious approach to what they sell. They often have packing boxes which is a good option to have. The Pet shop is well stocked, and the people inside are again very helpful and kind.

The lady in the van was unwelcoming and her dog attacked our dog. She then smacked her dog on the head twice and did not apologise or offer any first aid for our friend who was bit by her dog. RESPONSE to owners comments; Out of four dog owners of the group we saw the little dog, I assume Gnasher, being reactive towards our friends dog that was involved in the fight. Before the fight she body blocked the little one twice and was trying to work out who he belonged to. We all saw our friend pick up her dog, and your dog carried on jumping up, running up our fitness legs to bite at her dogs feet, and was hanging off of her dogs skin by its teeth at one point and managing to latch onto our friends hand and draw blood. (She was checked out at a clinic so she’s all safe and has received the proper treatment for a dog bite so she’s all safe.) I believe this is when you stepped in, catching your one mid jump trying to continue the attack. She was so shaken by it she broke down in shock and was sobbing. I can point out that a non-reactive dog would want to stop a fight asap as it is only in defence. A non reactive dog would also tend to try and slink away from confrontation and not seek it out. Her dog was on a short leash, as was the rest of the dogs in our group. The only dog able to roam around uncontrolled and unsupervised was Gnasher. For his sake, being a little dog, and I’m sure he’s your close companion, please consider taking him in with you when you cannot supervise due to serving, and between customers let him roam with your supervision. You can meet 10,000 dogs and then suddenly have a fight dog fight due to reactivity and dogs missing social queues to back off. We know our friends dog and know the reaction was fear and a breaking of the boundaries he was setting, but a dog that small might be seriously injured by other dogs won’t much more vicious streaks in them. Little dogs also get away with bad dog social queues more often than larger dogs, like not taking the hint their presence and forward behaviour is unwelcome. This is partially why Chihuahuas have the reputation they do, for example. Please google hitting dogs for corrective punishment. It’s antiquated and well proven to be wrong. https://pethelpful.com/dogs/an-ear-for-an-ear-why-biting-your-dogs-ear-does-not-work-aversive-techniques-forceful-punishment-do-not-work https://www.gcdogtraining.com/training-your-dog-correction-vs-punishment/ I’m also not getting into a review war with you so I won’t reply to any further comments. We’ve said our peace and provided the advice we feel morally obliged to give. Owning a dog is a learning curve and I hope this incident makes things better for everyone in the future.
