A truly excellent place. Reminded me of small authentic family restaurants of Japan. The food was excellent, the atmosphere very friendly. Very recommended!

Absolutely amazing food, every single time! It’s our favourite spot for sushi in the north east and we’ve tried quite a few places. Go there once at least and try, you will not regret it! Best gyoza we’ve had and the sauce that comes with it is so good! (We get it every time). Strongly recommend the volcano roll too! Everything tastes good!

It's a very small restaurant,we didn't book a table but we got a table very quickly. We ordered chicken ramen, tonkotsu pork ramen,and some sushi, The food arrived fast, the ramen was delicious, and the sushi was freshly made. Staffs were very friendly. my sons enjoyed it so much. We will come again when we next visit Durham.

Ordered for collection yesterday and the food was amazing. We got the Aburi Red Dragon Roll, Tempura Prawn Temaki & Spider Roll and all were so good. We usually drive to Newcastle and go to Sushi Me Rollin but this sushi was so much better.

My wife and I just enjoyed a fantastic lunch here whilst staying in Durham for a few days. The place is small, cozy, and authentically Japanese - great decor and ambience. I’m a huge fan of tonkotsu ramen, and love to hunt it out when I travel, and… drum roll… I think this is one of the best I’ve found yet. Thick, delicious chashu pork, perfectly marinated ramen eggs, flavourful broth… just typing this is making me want to go back in for a second bowl! My wife, a big sushi fan, had the teriyaki chicken futomaki and loved it. In fact, she loved it so much she forgot to share, so I’ll need to take her word for it, but it sure looked amazing. The fried chicken gyozas were also great as a starter, as was the sweet matcha dorayaki we enjoyed at the end as a treat. All in all, a fantastic experience, with great food and great service. Would return in a heartbeat!

Came for ramen and katsu.. Both were vey good! The place is small, better to book a table upfront.

Found this place nearly by accident, and am blown away. Better and more authentic sushi than anywhere in Durham, possibly in the region. Matches or exceeds places in the US. Best tuna ever!!

Simply wonderful. Staff is incredibly nice and efficient, food turn around is very short even on busy nights. I've never had a bad dish here. The salmon volcano role is to die for. The atmosphere is very nice too!!!

Was stopping by Durham and found this place online. We opted for takeaway because we had a dog and although we could sit outside, it was too cold - not a problem, the restaurant and owners were very lovely and accommodating! Very good energy and lovely family business. The food was excellent, one of the best I’ve had for sure. Specifically the unagi temaki and soft shell crab temaki!!! 10/10 super delicious! We also had sushi, gyoza and chicken katsu curry, all were equally yummy. I have no complaints and no negatives about this place and if I’m ever driving through England will stop by for sure! Thank you for the pancakes too, very sweet gesture! 100000x recommend this businesss!

Best place in Durham and it is not close. The place is always packed and you need a reservation because it is just that good.

I’d like to comment on the recent negative feedback. Two years ago we visited and we waited for a long time to be served HOWEVER, we actually had the best dining in experience ever. I recently visited again and was surprised that people here still remember me. The menu has been updated and all dishes went above my expectations. Ngl I am now living in London while missing this little lovely place in Durham. This little restaurant absolutely lights up Neville’s street - string lights, decorations, notes left by customers etc, it’s a place that has gone above just a restaurant. We’ve now left Durham already. But whenever we are asked for restaurant recommendations this is always on top of our list. ✨✨✨✨✨

Absolutely incredible Sushi restaurant!! In a lovely, small but cosy setting, with super friendly and helpful staff. The menu is incredibly vast and varied with something for everyone! I had the rainbow sashimi set which was absolutely gorgeous!! Will definitely be going back soon 🔜😎

Expensive but that's the nature of proper sushi. Book a table there is only about 20 seats inside and was full the whole time I was there

Food was absolutely marvelous 😋 Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Took our family out for sushi 🍣 and was not disappointed at all! I stumbled upon this place as a short walk from the station and believe it to be one of the best sushi restaurants I’ve visited this year with a great range of veggie options.

Just a superb cosy Japanese corner in gorgeous little Durham The Salmon Aburi Red Dragon and Salmon Philly Roll were honestly just perfect. Have travelled extensively in Japan and will attest to the high standards and quality in this kitchen 💯.

The ramen soup broth is creamy and fresh. Generous portion of noodle and meat, worth the value. We think it is the best ramen we have ever enjoyed in UK. The service is so great, everyone in the restaurant is very warm and friendly. See you again.

Simply the best sushi restaurant in Durham and maybe even compared to what’s in Newcastle. I go hunting for Japanese food 360 degrees around the world and the food here is fantastic….fresh, well prepared and perfectly portioned. The nigiris have just enough rice and not too much. But of course it’s a matter of personal taste. And the owner is so kind. Every time I ordered a takeaway, they always gave me an extra pleasant surprises. My only wish is for them to add Salmon teriyaki and tempura moriawase to their menu.

Came here for my birthday and the food and service was truly wonderful. We ordered a shushi platter and it was unbelievable, so fresh and tasty, beautifully presented. 100% best sushi around. We have been 4 times and every time everything is perfect. We will be back soon.

The best sushi in uk, prepared by the chef with wisdom and mastery. As soon as we sat down it felt like we were on the outskirts of Tokyo, a very nice environment, a very polite waitress who showed us the menu very professionally, helping us with our choice. congratulations and see you soon!

Totally fell in love with this place whilst visiting my son. We had dinner and had to come back for lunch again. Very kind staff and brilliant food. I recommend making a reservation in advance as is a small place . You won't be disappointed!

The best sushi in Durham! Excellent food at an excellent price. The dragon fly futomaki is my favourite. Food always comes very quickly and the portions are good sizes (particularly for the seaweed salad!)

I ordered beef curry. The beef was fried, not stewed, but it tasted pretty good. When I wanted to eat curry with some green leafy vegetables, the lady boss also specially added a few slices of lettuce for me.

Ordered for takeout. Food was tasty and fresh and the staff were lovely!

Very good food, authentic and tasty. The spicy house ramen and Unagi (eel) rice mains were both quality dishes. However slow service for drinks (arrived as we nearly finished) and mistakes in our order forced a mark down for an otherwise 5 star experience.

my new absolute fave place to eat in durham! i came yesterday with my friend for the first time, and we loved it. i had the spicy tonkotsu ramen and my friend had dragon rolls and chicken gyoza - all were AMAZING. the staff were lovely and the atmosphere was brilliant too. fully recommend!

Really cute Japanese restaurant hidden in Neville St. The food is amazing, and the staff are the absolute best.

Came here today with my friends, amazing staff, the lovely lady who served us was so kind and helpful as she could be with my friends allergy. 10/10!! definitely the best sushi I have ever had, the aburi red dragon roll was unbelievable and everything was presented beautifully. Gorgeous interior and all round amazing. Can’t believe we have never been before as it was that good. Thank you 😊

The sushi we did have was absolutely beautiful, and beautifully presented - a salmon platter and a veg platter. That being said, we visited on a Sunday afternoon and we were incredibly disappointed to hear that they had no Tuna, no Sea Bass and no Scallops, as well as other items. For a sushi restaurant that's open every day of the week including Sunday til 9pm, this seems like very poor planning. Our waiter explained that fresh deliveries come Monday mornings, but surely if you are running out of not one but several major menu items, you simply aren't ordering enough?

Delicious Japanese food. The quality of the tuna sashimi was superb. The dishes recommended by the waiter were well chosen. The prices were very reasonable.

Exceptional quality of food - the rice for the nigiri was perfectly seasoned and everything served at the correct temperature....no dry, bland rice or fridge cold fish here. And a donburi which was exceptionally moreish. Very, very good place

Visited Dingswaysushi for my birthday last Thursday. Spectacular food, with charming service. Ordered a stash of dishes which we demolished! Crab tempura, seaweed salad, prawn rolls, Volcano Salmon roll (stunning!), Dragon Prawn roll, Chicken gyozas and a katsu curry. £100 for 4 of us which we thought exceptional value for money. Highly recommended 👌 - we will be back!

Visited as part of a birthday celebration - food on offer was the best we’d all tasted. All of the dishes were phenomenal, but the star of the show was the salmon volcano - absolutely unreal. Small quirky restaurant with exceptional food - PLEASE visit you won’t be disappointed ❤️ x

Amazing service and amazing sushi. You have to try the Aburi Unagi Dragon Roll, it’s the best sushi I’ve ever had.

I had a craving for sushi while visiting the city and googled this place. The place was busy so I ordered Philly roll take-away. The service was so kind and attentive even while being fully packed with customers and obviously incoming orders for delivery. This was honestly some of the best and freshest sushi pieces I have eaten in my life (and I eat lots of it) 😊 Next time I am in Durham - this will be my obvious dining choice.

Updated review: See below for my old review. Since then, standards have gone up a lot, and now the restaurant has become one of our favourite places to eat in Durham. Very good food and drinks are served a lot better than before. I would recommend visiting,. particularly if you are into sushi. Old review: Very good sushi, and good food overall. Nice atmosphere as well. The reasons we put 3 stars instead of 4 or 5 is because of the warm overpriced Sprite can we ordered that was open on serving, and feeling lighter than it should (served with a plastic straw) as well as a noisy bunch of lads on the table next to us that the restaurant staff didn't address - one of the other customers in the restaurant had to quieten down the lads themselves. We will certainly visit again, but hope they improve on this the next time.
