Leaving a restaurant feeling sad for a wasted 50 minutes (surely no good restaurant experience should be done this quickly?) and a wasted £138 for three people, is never something to write home about. My kids and I love dumplings - and coming here, I feel in retrospect I should have read more closely between the lines of Grace Dent’s Guardian review and given it a miss. Everything about this place smacks of disappointment: processing customers through in 90 minute slots; the food feeling competent and skilled yet lacking any genuine depth of flavour; the room itself feeling somehow disjointed with the only design aim to be to make you relieved to leave before your allocated 90 minutes is up. Part way through eating, my fourteen-year-old daughter observed how ‘absolutely everyone eating at the restaurant is white’, and the penny dropped: for every amazing Chinese cuisine experience we’ve ever had, there has been a significant proportion of the clientele who hail from Chinese ancestry. We’re talking, possibly, about the same places the generally very affable waiting staff go to eat when they’re not serving this prim, but ultimately off-the-mark, fare. In a word? Disappointing. Underwhelming. Forgettable. Take your pick. And pick somewhere else if you want truly memorable food.

I went to their Taipei branch some time ago and it was fabulous. Reason to try one of the London ones. I took the famed soup dumplings, fried rice with pork chops, and stir fried beans with garlick. And jasmine tea. All very nice indeed. The fried rice was one of the best I have ever had and a reason to come back. Perhaps the dumpling filling was a bit dry and the pork a bit under seasoned but the beans were spot on. Made me happy. This restaurant is fully and easily accessible for wheelchair users. Get onto the sidewalk at Bedford Street if you are wheeling on your own.

Came here with my friends and had high hopes… but it was just ok, not great. Food portions were really small… tiny in fact. So we thought we had over ordered, but we didn’t & finished everything on the table. Pricey for average food & small portions. Also the hostess told us repeatedly about the 1.5 hr sitting time b/c my friend was running late… even though the restaurant had empty tables and it was huge with 2 floors and tons of tables. Wouldn’t recommend

I often go to din tai fun after work for dinner. I always end up getting a table without reservation - so the walk-in is pretty good. The restaurant is set up in a way that solo as well as group diners get their space. The staff has always helped me with portion sizes, how much food shall I order, the spice levels etc. Staff is very polite and attentive but not intruding. I never felt rushed. One of the things I like about this restaurant is that you can order a small portion of 5 dumplings - that gives me an opportunity to enjoy a variety. The dumplings are freshly made, soft and one of the best.the food is excellent, at a reasonable price without any pomp and pretentiousness.

I have been to this restaurant several times. First time was 4 years ago when I first moved to London. What I loved about it is that is huge, there is plenty of space so you don't really need to book in advance. You can show up and they will find a table for you while to have a drink at the bar. Their speciality is dumplings, they have several ones you can pick. Anh the best of out it, is that when you entered you can see the chefs prepare them through a glass window. Superb experience :) I would recommend it to anyone!

After hearing all of the hype, my friend and I were very excited to try this restaurant. We were incredibly disappointed- the food was bland, wet and well smushy. The bao buns were completely flavour and sauce less, we were shook. The restaurant took 20 mins to seat us and for the price of the dishes, we left hungry and unsatisfied. I’d personally say to avoid this restaurant and head to the bao restaurant chain.

Whilst it is undeniable that the novelty of watching trained Dim Sum chefs make the famed Xiao Long Bao through a glass kitchen attracts many customers, unless you are sat in one of the few tables near this, you will not be able to see anything. Nevertheless, I have had many soup dumplings and these were unfortunately lacking in comparison. The broth inside was flavourless and texture-less. A good soup dumpling is like a flavour explosion and this did not deliver. My advice would be to visit China Town for a more flavourful dumpling or, if your budget allows, China Tang at the Dorchester do an incredible Iberico Pork Soup Dumpling. The service was the reason this gets 3 stars and not lower as it was very fast and efficient.

Went in 2033. I am born and raised in Hong Kong. I enjoyed Din Tai Fung in the past, but will never go again. They do not serve tea by the pot here, which is fundamental dim sum. Rip off. Don’t believe the hype. Pretty interior, but but bad acoustics and poor lighting. Have to shout above din to confused looking waitresses who are also inaudible above noise. Portions shockingly tiny. Dumplings utterly unremarkable and amateurish blobs of flavourless sludge. £16.50 for sesame flavoured egg fried rice with some frozen prawns stuck in top. Wow. Packet noodles served in special “sauces” which were just bland. I knew we should have gone to Chinatown favourites for good value delish food. But persuaded by Time Out review believing non Asian friends to go to Din Tai Fung. NEVER AGAIN!

Din Tai Fung is the best place ever for dim sum lovers. My friends and I have been to their restaurants in different countries, and they never disappoint. Their xiao long bao, or soup dumplings, are their signature dish, they are delicate dumplings filled with hot soup and meat that burst in your mouth, they are absolutely delicious. But what made our visit to Din Tai Fung Covent Garden even more awesome was the Christmas vibe of Covent Garden. The restaurant is in the middle of this gorgeous area, with lots of shops, and street performers. The whole place was lit up for Christmas , and it felt so magical and festive. We loved the contrast between the sleek and modern design of the restaurant and the cozy and charming atmosphere of the street. It was like a perfect blend of East and West. Din Tai Fung Covent Garden is not just a restaurant, but a destination. It is a must-visit for anyone who wants to have a fun and delicious time in London.

Have tried on two different trips to walk-in and the line was always impossible. Finally made a reservation and really enjoyed it. The signature dishes were all great. The best was the chili crab and pork boa. Better as a boa than as a bun I thought cause then you get the soup. Best to be with a group though because then you can try many things. First time, a bit confusing as to what to order, asked for advice, ordered plenty of little things, all came at once, some went cold….will go again and order a course at a time so things aren’t so rushed"

Good is great and buzzy atmosphere. Staff friendly and great cocktails. It’s fancy but not stuffy. Robots were cool and you can watch the dumpling being made.

A nice experience, however the end product lacked our expectations. Flavour of some of dim sum was a bit bland. The best dish we thought was Chilli crab steamed bun. Drinks menu is extremely expensive and the choice is limited. Unfortunately we won't be returning.

There is no better place in London for dumplings. I did not book but arrived at 12 on the dot. We were seated within 5 minutes. The waitress super efficient. A basket for my handbag and purchases, so that nothing gets dropped on it. It...

The food was fantastic, but the service was awful but the service was lacking. The waitress seemed handling too many tables, so we had to ask several times for water, chopsticks. Despite the great food, the inattentive service made the experience less enjoyable.

Phoned at 11.55am yesterday to check availability for lunch on the same day .I was informed they could accommodate a table for two at midday (so 5 minutes away ) I politely said we would need a little time to get there and would arrive in less than 30 mins but I was informed if I couldn’t get there within 15 minutes I could not have the table !!I have never experienced anything quite like it and absolutely appalling customer service !Having since read many of the poor reviews they obviously did us a favour and we ended up enjoying a fabulous lunch at the OWO !Hospitality is supposed to be about accommodating guests requests the best way possible but not here!!They obviously don’t want or need the business and I certainly won’t ever be spending my hard earned money at any Peninsular Hotel if this is the way they treat there customers !!! Good day !
