Dil Chad in City of London, Westminster

I used to use this place regularly and really enjoyed their Chicken Thali. This time I visited, menu had changed , with no Chicken Thali. Food was really poor compared to previous visits. I suspect chefs are almost certainly different and probably different management and ownership. My visit was a couple of weeks ago. I walked to restaurant tonight considering going in but at 8.30pm, at a time when previously it would be very busy, it was EMPTY, so guessed food quality hadn’t improved since last visit, so went elsewhere. Note to current owners - WAKE UP ! If you don’t address current issues and given the high level of rental and council rates you will be paying for this prime location, you could soon be out of business.

After a day out at sport in London, with the Dilchad being on our way home, we decided to see if the food was as good as we remembered. We were shown straight to our seats and the first bottle of Cobra didn't touch the sides. We started with the obligatory poppadoms and then headed to the mains which were a lamb bhuna and Chicken Tikka Korai. Both were beautifully cooked, piping hot with both having plenty of flavour, with the spices being just right. It was refreshing to find with both the meat being soft and not tending towards the tough side often found in many Indian restaurants. We left very full after a lovely meal and wont leave it so long before we return.

Went here with a bunch of friends and they were super accommodating for myself and my Vegan friend. The food was amazing, one of the best Indians I've had in London. I'll definitely be coming back when I'm local.

Delicious food, staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. We will definitely go again when we are in the area. 10 out of 10 for us.

Oh dear. Went in on the off chance of a quick, decent curry on my way to a gig. Ordered a salt lassi, a Sag Tofu, and a Saag Paneer. All of it was watery and tasteless. As if they used no spices, chilis, or salt in anything. Possibly the worst professionally-made Indian food I have ever paid for. And then the nerve to slap a 10% service charge on the bill. Won’t be going back.

The place looked ok, the staff were great.. like the starters but pricy , however curry was a big let down ..I ordered kashmiri Rogan Josh it was not upto the mark . No where close to authentic ones.. It is Bangladeshi restaurant.. this is not Indian food.. Given 3 as had good company and good time.. food wise it's 2.5

Nice atmosphere, very friendly manager, spotless toilets and excellent food. I was very impressed with how we were treated, not rushed and has items not on the menu but happy to provide and matched what we wanted, will return shortly and looking for forward to it

Mediocre. Could have been better. Decor is lovely though. Staff are lovely. But the food just didn’t quite cut it. Waiter was also loud.

Took clients from overseas for dinner here last night and was looking forward to showcasing a London curry house. I’d taken them last year to Cinnamon Kitchen so expectations were high. Sadly the food was really disappointing - the mint sauce with the poppadums was the first hint that we’d have an issue as it tasted of chlorine but the curries that later appeared were not great at all. I complained that my Butter Chicken was way too sweet and the waiter just laughed and said that it’s always like that! Service was in general pretty shoddy especially the guy that was topping up white wines with red! Really don’t understand the good reviews…

Had a couple of drinks at Out of Office which is a part of this restaurant - good atmosphere and nice staff.

This has been a city stalwart at least since I started in 1987. Actually don't remember it being as good as it was last night. Really great curries, spicier than most but thats not a bad thing. Good service not a single complaint from anyone on our table of eight very experienced and fussy Indian food eaters. We'll definitely be back.

I've been coming here since 1993, and the curry is just as good as ever, but the place has changed so much. It's now way smaller as they've converted half of it into an after work bar - clever idea. But for me, it's about the service and the curry, which I definitely recommend.

2 minutes from Liverpool Street station. Excellent little place with good ambience and friendly staff. We had a Thali each, one mixed grill other fish, which gave us a selection of little dishes with different flavours. A great way to share a ‘curry’. Will definitely go again.

Amazing ! Quality of food was amazing, service was brilliant and such good value for money. One of the best we have tried. Will definitely come back soon.

Looking for something before getting our train home and was just amazed at just how lovely this restaurant was and the staffl were so friendly and welcoming and so proud of their restaurant, the food was just so unreal and I would say one of the best curries I have ever had

The issue immediately obvious in this restaurant is the rude staff. Surly to the point of unpleasant. Menu pulled out of your hands when being collected in. Wine plonked on table unopened. Food was okay at best. Chicken shaslik is supposed to be served sizzling on a hot plate - not here though. Just warm. The naan bread was nice as it happens. When waiter clears table and knocks dish across customer’s white shirt, no apology even when pointed out. The 10% tip is automatically added to bill. Waiter very rude and unhappy when we paid by card the amount less the 10% tip and insisted we had to pay it. We didn’t. I enjoy paying well above 10% tip when appreciating decent service. Once in a blue moon I don’t pay tip. This place is best avoided.

The popadoms were served with mint sauce that we had to send back as it tasted like chlorine! My friend had to send back her butter chicken as it was so spicy it burnt her mouth and definitely didn’t taste like butter chicken! My tikka Masala was also very hot- I’ve never had a masala like this. The Naan bread was pleasant. Service was good and efficient. However would not recommend as the food was awful.

Came across this place randomly near my hotel. Didn’t even think it was an Indian restaurant at first as it looks like a French bistro. But so glad I popped in. Really lovely food and friendly staff. Not too pricey either

After the dark dinginess of the cocktail club this place was bright airy and staff were friendly and efficient and cocktails really reasonably priced and very nice, didnt eat but the food looked amazing.

Visité un viernes, inicialmente hubo una tibia bienvenida ya que queríamos una mesa para las 2 a las 6 pm pero no habíamos reservado, a pesar de que el restaurante estaba vacío, nos llevó unos 5 minutos determinar si podíamos sentarnos o no.Una vez sentado, el servicio era mucho mejor y disfrutamos de una excelente y abundante comida con una parrillada mixta por una vez que no fue salada hasta la muerte, como es frecuente en otros establecimientos.Un entorno encantador, pero si algo negativo la factura final parecía un poco abultada con algunos de los platos son caros en mi opinión.

Just eaten the most amazing Indian with my sister. We had crispy kale with tamarind sauce to start after the poppadoms. We then had Katmandu chicken curry and they cooked it specially to madras hot or they thought it would be too hot for us. We also shared a prawn, scallop and fish creamy curry with Bombay aloo. OMG everything was so tasty. I like to try dishes I have never had before and these were amazing. We will definitely be back. Highly recommend!!!

I really wanted to like this place. It’s in a good location with a great menu. The vegetarian and vegan thalis we ordered were absolutely delicious. It was the service that let it down. I was around the area and I stumbled across Dil Chad.While there my partner and I enjoyed this beautiful meal and it smelled, looked and tasted absolutely delicious.We had the Vegetable Koria & Channa and also the Vegetable Bento Box.They are very accommodating if you are a vegan, and they have vegetarian options. So it's a great place to go if you are a vegan.The restaurant had such a lovely vibe and the staff were extremely friendly.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area with a craving for Indian food.

I went there kat week and the next day I was in terrible pain. My friend was OK so I assume it was the chickpea curry or the panneer I ate. The panneer was really nice but something wasn't right.

We visited on a Saturday night, group of 5. Had to wait a long time to be served and then a long time for the food which was surprising as the restaurant wasn’t that busy. Food arrived and was good though. Prices okay for where we were.

Came across this restaurant with two of my friends a couple of months ago & it’s starting to become a regular spot for us. The food is always excellent, (would definitely recommend is the Chicken Shashlik Bhuna) and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant is very relaxing and not too hectic which for me is a major pulling factor.

Had a mixed Thali for lunch my partner had the vegan thali.

I visited this restaurant because it's very close to our office for a business meeting. I must confess that my (and my colleagues) experience was horrible! We ordered three veg thalis and requested the server if the mushrooms can be replaced by another vegetable as my colleagues were allergic. Instantly the server rejected but upon persisting he finally agreed to replace the small bowl of mushroom veggies with chickpeas. When the food arrived we found a hair strand in the portion of rice served to my colleague. And I get that it happens but upon finding one, which was very visible to all three of us, the server refused to accept there was one! I ended up lifting the strand with a fork and showing it to him, instead of apologising, he behaved in a passive aggressive manner and asked another server to help us! Honestly at this point I'd have walked out of the restaurant but we were in a meeting and time was valuable to us and we were hungry! We continued with our food and meeting but honestly the food was greasy and belpw average in taste. We even asked this server to provide us with water and what surprised me was how he brought three glasses of water along with a jug and placed it with a thud on the table and left it for us to pour and manage ourselves! I've only experienced this service in road side restaurants in India, which is how the style is but you end up paying peanuts for such meals! Anyway, there are several other restaurants in London that's are definitely better in customer services and food than Dil Chad. I'm a London resident for years and to be honest have never experienced such a horrible service in any restaurant here till date. Definitely not going back or recommending it to anyone.

Pasé muchos años creciendo en el East End antes de mudarme a Australia en los 70 s. En las visitas de regreso, mi papá me llevaría a un restaurante indio en Bishopsgate / Middlesex street. Esta noche, mi novia y yo, mientras estábamos de vacaciones en Londres, entramos a este restaurante que parecía vagamente familiar.

En una zona en la que tiene una gran variedad de opciones cuando se trata de una excelente comida india, Dil Chad se distingue. He estado en varias ocasiones con colegas, amigos, pareja y familia. Ideal para cualquier ocasión. Mi favorito personal es el cordero. Una espiga tierna perfectamente cocida y sofocada en una deliciosa salsa con especias.

È la prima volta che io e il mio fidanzato mangiamo indiano quindi non posso fare il confronto con altri ristoranti. Ma posso dire che lo staff è stato gentilissimo, che la location è molto carina e pulita e che abbiamo mangiato davvero molto bene: la carne ottima e il veh thali molto gustoso!

I visted the Dil Chad last night with a group of friends and was impressed with the new decor , looks great. The food was excellent with lots of variety , very tasty indeed. The staff are very attentive and happy to give culinary advice. A very friendly atmosphere with a happy burble of contented diners. We even got a free brandy from the Manager. Well worth a visit indeed.

Dilchad have always been the best

Had been 2 weeks ago and was ok. Tonight was awful to the point we declined to pay in full. The poppadoms were flat, I. E. Not fresh, but ok. Mains (two meat thalis, one duck jalfrezi and one chicken jalfrezi) all turned up luke warm at best. On advising the staff they reluctantly offered to bring them back hot. There was no apology or offer to cook them fresh, just a clear sign they would be reheated quickly and returned, which they were in literally 3 minutes. There was no attempt to create an illusion of fresh food and even reheated it was barely hot. It was the arrogance as much as the poor food that caused us to refuse to pay full price and having paid anything in the circumstances was more than reasonable. Won't be returning.

I had not been here in many years but it was still the excellent Indian that I remember. Very welcoming and great service. Highly recommended if you are looking for an authentic Indian meal in the City.

La noche lluviosa y húmeda que visitaba Londres con un amigo se preguntaba sin rumbo buscando un lugar para comer, se detuvo en muchos restaurantes y miró los menús, pero nada se destacó, pasó el dilchad pasado, echó un vistazo al menú, se vio bien pero siguió caminando un poco , se dio la vuelta y regresó, tan contentos de haberlo hecho, un cordial saludo, la comida fue fantástica, ¡la presentación fue estupenda! Compartimos un langostino en pur e y bhaji de cebolla tuve pollo tikka masala con un naan mientras que mi amigo tenía un biryani con un lado de Bombay aloo para compartir, todo fue tan bueno, fue una lástima dejarlo, pero éramos tan Lleno, con poppadoms, pepinillos y una coca cola, ¡cada uno no estaba nada mal!

Dilchad is an old restaurant in the area and the food is still great service is superb all waiters made me feel at home and that's the kind of service we expect when we go to a city restaurants

Había visitado Dilchad una o dos veces hace unos 15 años con colegas después de salir de noche en Bishopsgate y lo recordé por su comida promedio y su ubicación céntrica muy conveniente. Pasé rápidamente al 2018 y otra vez visité a Dilchad con colegas de trabajo después de una noche de copas y sin ganas de una caminata de diez minutos a Brick Lane. El servicio fue amable y acogedor, y no tuvimos que esperar mucho tiempo para poner una mesa para nuestro grupo de doce. Disfruté especialmente las chuletas de cordero y la cesta de panes mixtos. Popadoms y pepinillos eran como de costumbre. Nuestra selección de platos al curry fue bastante memorable, pero eso podría ser solo mi falta de recuerdo. Alguien más se hizo cargo de la factura, por lo que no puedo juzgar los precios en función de la calidad. He salido con la misma vista que tenía hace más de una década.

A large group of us visited the Dilchad for lunch and were were certainly impressed.

It was a walk of lost and found, trying to decide where to eat in that July evening. We were tired, we passed DIlchad, just glanced at the menu and walked by. We looked at other places and couldn't decide and came back to this place. We arrived there by 9 pm and it was a nice ambiance and the staff was very receptive. I think because my daughter just brought more joy to the place, but just stepping in we felt comfortable. The personal were very friendly and guided us to the table. We ordered the thali, and we mix and match the vegetables in the thali.

Popped in with a friend and my Nephew, it was near 11pm, the staff said if we wanted to eat we needed to leave by 11.30pm. Not the most gracious of welcomes. As it was late and a bit of a walk to brick lane we decided to give it a go as this was a great place 10 years or so, ago. Food was very very average, overpriced and the staff were rude, and basically stood around us for the short duration we were there. Sadly this isn't the Dilchad of a few years back. Would not recommend and will take the walk to brick lane in future

Not a bad curry very good portions and flavours. Nice atmosphere. Only grumble but this applies to most UK curries is why so salty!!

Este restaurante ha estado alrededor desde principios de los años 60 y que no se sorprendió. La comida era excelente, no aceitosa y muy sabroso. El naan era uno de los mejores que hemos tenido. El servicio fue amable y muy rápido. El ambiente es muy agradable. Un gran lugar para un indio.

Elegí este restaurante por mi cumpleaños porque la ubicación a sólo unos minutos a pie de la estación de Liverpool Street, desde donde tengo mi tren a casa. Este restaurante doble deliciosos mis amigos y yo estábamos muy impresionan con la comida, es un buen lugar para guardar grupo de tamaño o parejas, pero es mejor reservar una mesa, el servicio en sí no era increíble bien el camarero era un poco impaciente, pero en general fue genial, vamos a volver esta semana por otra comida deliciosa.

Decoración agradable. El personal es agradable. La comida era muy sosa. Se lo mencionamos y me dijeron que pude haber hecho picante. No me importa las especias pero no el tema, sólo quería un poco de sabor! ! No volveré. Si ir solo pedirles que jazz.

We enjoyed our meal here; the dishes were tasty and seemed freshly made. However, the servings were small and you need to know this if you are a hungry diner. There was no wine by the glass; we bought a bottle, and again you need to know this if you are driving (we were on the train so no worries about wine drinking).

Very nice restaurant next Liverpool Street station. Lots to choose from, food is tasty. Recently reopened following refurbishment. It opened years ago so lots of history. Will be visiting again

I came to dine with my fiancé last week. The outlay of the restaurant is very nice I loved the lighting when I saw the menu it was completely different from what I remembered. The staff was very friendly especially the waitress as I didn’t know what to chose she asked me a variety of questions to get an estimate of what I would of enjoyed she recommended the chicken Katmandu which in my case was the best thing ever she got it spot on. As I love spicy food she was always smiling and was very talkative which was nice as it made us feel welcome her service was very professional. I will definitely be back soon ! I have been a long term customer at the Dilchad, I have always recommended this place to family friends and colleagues. I have been dinning with the Dilchad family for over 22 years and I have found the service to be top notch, Food is always excellent and well presented. Cosy and lovely ambient atmosphere makes u not want to leave. Waiter and not forgetting WAITRESS always welcome u with a warm and comforting feeling and smile the food was delicious as ever and on time. Brought a new face that's not tried Indian food before. Waitress was helpful and kind enough to recommend a main and sides to go with the rice and starters. You have won over another colleague thanks Dilchad for always making the visit worth every moment. We will be back very soon and I do recommend you all try this GEM of a place tucked away in a busy built up area of the city once again thank you Dilchad can't wait for my next visit.

My wife and I had a very good dinner at Dil Chad. We split several vegetarian appetizers and a glass of wine and the food was delicious. There was more food than we could eat and the service was very attentive.

Stumbled across this great restaurant having met my husband at Liverpool Street station and wanted a quick dinner close by. Very handy for a great meal and we both really enjoyed our food. Salmon tikka to start was lovely and the king prawn Kerala curry was very tasty. Will definitely be back if we are in the area again.

This has been a favourite Indian restaurant in the heart of the City of London for many years. Its had a makeover and now looks very trendy. Me and my chums were keen that it maintained its standards. Well, its different, but better. An interesting menu with variations on the old tried and tested Indian standards. But, ideally for lunch, they do a £15 two-course menu with limited but well selected items. I had a small chicken with tikka, served quickly to get the taste buds satisfied. Then lamb rogan josh with rice, and trimmings. Not huge portions, thankfully, just rights for a totally satisfying Indian lunch. Service is excellent, courteous and knowledgeable.

I used to come here regularly and was happy to recommend this little gem of a curry house so close to Liverpool Street Station. Since it re-opened, I tried it last night and found it had lost some of its charm. The menu had changed a lot with the sad loss of the Dil Chad 'special'. So, observations: Well, the decor had improved; the menu had got revamped and was noticably more expensive (I remember having a decent curry for 2 with a drink in there for £25, last night it was the same menu choices but the cost was nearer £50. Ordered two pints which had a two inch froth on top - a waitress kindly topped them up when we asked but I wonder if it was deliberate? We received the wrong order initally and the smoke alarm went off for a good while too before they could reset it. All in all, and this pains me to say it, but it was a forgettable evening. Oh, I had a chicken jalfrezi where the chillis were far too hot for this dish. I mentioned this to the waitress (thinking she might simply inform the chef) but she advised me to stick this down on TripAdvisor... Hence why I am here. I hope the chef/s finds the time to read this. I couldn't eat the meal in the end and believe me, I can take my chilli's. Would recommend they test their own meals before they serve them. Will I visit again, sadly not. Bring back the old Dil Chad!

Love their currys, Friday night after work with the finance lads (and ladies) service from the older chap I think the manager? is top notch really looks after us. Currys are spot on with a bottle of the finest Cobra
