Di Meo's in North Tyneside

Popped in for a coffee and ice cream for the kids, landed up ordering a pizza too. Service was brilliant, nothing too much for the team working today. Canoli was stunning, ice creams rich and full of flavour and the coffee was phenomenal. But the icing on the cake was the pizza. A spontaneous purchase for the family to share, I don't think I've ever had a pizza so fresh and so well balanced with flavours. Definitely not to be missed

This is more than a family business and ice cream parlour, it is a must do activity with any family visiting the North East The Good 🍦 - Amazing gelato! So many flavours and options. Reasonably priced too! - The food is also amazing. Have the pizzas to share and then finish off with gelato for dessert The Not So Bad 🍨 - The restaurant can get very busy! So always a good idea to book if dining in. The Ugly 🍨 - Nothing negative to report here! Our only gripe is that we are sometimes full by the time we've eaten pizza. So we have to walk down the beach for a bit and go back for ice cream later - Upstairs can get a little noisy of large parties in. So request downstairs if you want a quieter evening

Our first time here - I'd booked a table upstairs. When I arrived the girl showed us to a downstairs table, and when I asked why, she said it was busy upstairs, but when she asked us if we had booked a table upstairs, to which we said yes, she checked with another member of staff and said they'd just need to clean the table first, then she took us upstairs, which was good! I know they were busy but not sure why there was a problem - a clear booking was made for upstairs at 6.30pm (shouldn't the table be ready??) ....anyway, it got sorted in the end! Pizza was good and the staff pleasant and smiley and the upstairs room is very nicely decorated. However, charging an extra £1.95 for vegan cheese is shocking! Not sure how they can justify that but hey ho! Having said all that, I would go back whenever we have visitors but maybe at a quieter time other than a Saturday evening.

Came last night for the first time and wow. Nduja and trentina Pizzas followed by superb cherry and battenberg ice cream. Very busy and we had not booked but as we left 2 ladies called us back and said they were leaving. Staff straight in to freshen the table. I always read the poor reviews and have to say that your response was spot on to one disappointed customer. You clearly set out what you are and the proof of the Pudding is your continued success. Thanks for a lovely meal in an authentic and positive atmosphere. We will be back and apologise that we haven't been before. This will be corrected !

me and my family come to whitley bay a few times a year and make sure each time we come we make a visit to di meos everything they do is so tasty ..pizzas , gelato and cannolis are some of the best ive ever tasted and the staff are lovely ,cant rate this place enough

Been here loads of times and really love their pizzas and ice cream! This visit I got the creme egg ice cream special which was really good. My wife got the biscoff hot chocolate which she also really enjoyed. They allowed us to sit in which was very pleasant (we've only ever taken away previously) Amazing service, amazing ice cream and drinks and would highly recommend. Obviously will be back next time we're in Whitley bay!

This is the best Pizza I've had in the UK and could rival any of the new chains The ice cream is also up there as brilliant, and rightly award winning, with lots of flavours always on offer. I tried the creme egg one over Easter and it was beautiful. Just a great family restaurant without the pretentious pitfalls that can come with so many modern restaurants. We've also had coffee and Cannoli here and that was also gorgeous

Perfect panini’s, made with pizza dough and the BEST ice cream in Whitley Bay. The staff are always lovely and friendly.

Dropped in mid afternoon while the area. Ordered 4x mains of pizza and pasta. Very reasonably priced and good quality food. The ice cream was very good too.

I’ve visited here many times for takeaway ice cream as it is just fantastic, but this was my first time trying the restaurant for an actual meal. I had Spicy ‘Nduja Pizza with a side order of Parmesan Fries. The whole meal was absolutely tremendous, pizza was cooked to perfection and the fries were an absolute treat. Definitely recommend and definitely will be back!

Birthday treat and no better place to go for pizza and ice cream. Pizza was sizeable and well prepared. Side dishes of fries were enormous giving the whole meal a high value for money rating. Surroundings are Spartan but who cares with quality like this. Just to round it all off the artisan ice cream is to die for, I’m an ice cream buff and I should know. One point guys, too much garlic oil on the speciality fries. Other than that …. Perfect.

AVOID, organised chaos at its best. After entering the restaurant and waiting 5-10 minutes for a table as the kids who work there haven’t got a clue what’s happening. We were sat down and quickly ordered a pizzas at the counter. We sat for 45 minutes while other tables who had entered and ordered after ourselves had received their food. After asking where our food was there seemed to be more confusion between all the staff. The system as supposedly not sending the orders to the kitchen. If they knew the system was not working why didn’t they check in the kitchen that they had received the orders? How comes everybody else received their food? When we asked for a refund I questioned the staff about not asking us why we were still sitting without any food, the response was it’s not our fault the system ain’t working, so who’s fault is it? This is not acceptable when my fiance is 9 month pregnant.

Took the grandkids this time they loved the kids pizza, wife had a large bolognaise pizza, loved it, I had chips very good and salad lovely, we are local so go regularly great value, friendly staff, good food, warm atmosphere.

Been here many many times and have always had a great pizza...its our favourite place to go for a pizza and its always reliable ..the staff are always lovely and polite ..its usually busy so making a booking would be advisable...thank you dimeo and we look forward to seeing you all again soon

We've had impressive pizza and ice cream here a few times over the last few years, so as we were spending the day in Whitley Bay decided to get food here again. The cherry ice cream was really really good. Lovely soft creamy texture with a very strong cherry flavour. My wife got the gingerbread Biscoff hot chocolate which was also very good. Nice drink with plenty of cream, sauce, biscuits and wafers. After miles of walking we went back to order some food to take away. I got the 'white' pizza with brie, pancetta and honey chilli sauce which was amazing. Lovely dough with plenty of great toppings and the honey sauce added some extra sweetness and spice which was really good. My wife got the pasta carbonara which was also very good. She didn't want pancetta in it so when I ordered I asked if they could swap it for mushrooms. The woman serving us didn't even blink and said of course which we really appreciated. They took my name and we sat outside in the sun. Ten mins later someone came out with our food. All very nice and efficient. Amazing quality food with great service. Will definitely be back for more pizza and ice cream next time we're in Whitley Bay!

A must stop place, everyone eats the georgous ice cream but go inside, try the pizza, they do a great lunch deal. The perfect lunch and they don't mind giving you a box to bring home your delicious left overs so you can still have room for some of their icecream

Absolutely fantastic service and fantastic icecream! I visited today (Bank Holiday Monday) and there was a HUGE queue for icecream outside in the street. This is my sons favourite place for icecream but we usually go at quieter times when there aren’t any queues as he is autistic and queuing will usually result in him running away or a meltdown. I went inside and asked politely if he could be served with an icecream as he wouldn’t be able to cope with the enormous queue outside and the manager obliged without question. Excellent customer service and one happy little boy. Definitely visit if you are in Whitley Bay as it is the best icecream in the area!

We stopped by here for lunch knowing they did good ice cream but weren't expecting the authentic Italian pizzas on offer which are great! Really fresh with quality sauce and toppings The ice cream was great. And they have proper Italian canolli to buy as well!

Booked a table for a special occasion. Waited an hour and a half to be even acknowledged.. Other tables were being seen before us. No apology for this wait. One rude supervisor who needs to sort some personal stuff out before work. Not very nice...

Absolutely divine gelato! We often end up here instead of the gym! There is a reason they are number 1 on here. Their ice cream is creamy, they have a variety of flavours and the service is friendly and efficient. We can’t wait to return...

The locals told us that this place would have a longer line than the ice cream place 2 doors down, but that it would be worth the wait. They were right! The ice cream was incredible! You won't be disappointed.

Always our go to when we fancy a sweet treat. I will often try a new flavour each time but ever since I've had the cherry it's all I get! Highly recommend it to everyone!! They also offer Gluten Free cones for all you coeliacs...

Great location. Authentic Italian food, with great service from staff. If this place did deliveries, I'd be a more frequent customer. Its open longer than this website states, so I recommend checking first.

Had the gluten free pizza which was really good. My husband and I both had the ice cream and found it fantastic. We both had the Amorino Cherry. Yum!

Had awesome ice creams …. So many flavours. Great choice of cones as well. Loved the ginger snap ice cream. They put the biscuit on top instead of a waffle 👍 We all loved it.

What a wonderful little shack on the edge of the beach. Luckily discovered Whitella ice cream which was truthfully delicious (even my partner who doesn’t do sweet things enjoyed it). Would definitely come back when up on this coast.

This is the fourth time I have visited this magnificent cafe and the gelato is always beautiful. It’s a must have if you are in the area. Lots of flavours and cones to choose from and all amazing. Coffee good too!

I don’t queue for anything voluntarily except to hear Domingo sing or indulge in ice cream from Di Meo’s. Great choice of flavours, we tried 6 over a sunny weekend in Whitley Bay. Delicious. Coffee and cakes are excellent too.

Based on previous reviews we felt we had to have an ice cream even though it was cold and rainy. Glad we did they were so yummy, 1 biscoff and 1 honeycomb crunch. A must visit if you are in the area

Incredible. Tried 5 flavours - vanilla their version of soft scoop. Best I've ever had. Ferrero rocher - can instantly tell what it was with just one bite - not just chocolate, cookies and cream gorgeous, Nutella amazing and mint chocolate chip. I now think my goal needs to be trying then all. Really sad we live too far away to get their tubs of ice cream home without melting!

Used to visit this shop but the service and quality getting worse and worse, especially takeaway. Last order yesterday, tried to order pizza for collection on the phone. The lady who answered the call said she was busy and would call back in a few minutes but never called back. Around 16:30 I had to go and order in the shop. the tuna pizza had very little tuna (hardly you can see any tuna) and burnt black on some sides.

If you can get past the horrendous attitude of the staff (small blond girl) the ice cream is very tasty. Good job another colleague looked as if they actually wanted to be there. Probably won’t bother coming back

We called in for lunch. The pizza was really great value, tasty and I had to take some home but desert was the star of the show, all served with their beautiful ice cream. The staff were really helpful and friendly and all in a relaxed atmosphere

This lovely little ( very) place was a real find, though we didn’t have to look hard for it. We’d promised our granddaughter an ice cream sundae but when we went in she decided she’d like a pizza. We were undecided whether to order a regular size or the children’s six inch pizza but as she was definitely going to have ice cream ( and being from Yorkshire we ordered the children’s one. It was much larger than 6” and she ate it all. We shared a delicious flatbread panino with fragrant fresh basil, accompanied by coffee, very good, Prosecco, essential, and a couple of cannoli. And of course when the sundae arrived it looked so good that we all had to have a taste. We decided it was the best ice cream we’ve had since we were in Italy. Service was welcoming,charming and prompt, and the decor was very Italian 60s ish. We will be back. Oh and prices were good.

Was staying nearby and visited Whitley Bay a few times for walks along the lovely long beach (and seeing the seals at nearby St. Mary's lighthouse)Had a quick look around to see what food was available and saw the amazing selection of gelato flavours here which were too tempting not to try!I had the Rafaello gelato which was amazing. Really creamy with white chocolate and coconut flavour with pieces of water in. Lovely texture and flavor and a standard price for 1 scoop.My wife had the Kinder Bueno hot chocolate which she also said was amazing. Great tasting and came with cream, wafer and pieces of Kinder Bueno on top!Two days later we were back to walk on the beach and had a look at their pizza menu (as the photos outside made them look amazing)Good menu of reasonably priced pizzas, and Monday to Friday from 12 until 5 they are all only £6.50!Ordered two pizzas which took just over ten mins but came out in giant pizza boxes. We ate some in the car as it was too cold in the wind. Really good toppings, lovely taste of fresh basil, and really nice thick doughy crust (perhaps a bit overcooked but still lovely)After walking off the pizza by walking on the beach we went back and I got a scoop of the Milkybar gelato which was really nice and creamy with loads of white chocolate pieces in.Then we walked down to the beach where they have a small hut that serves their own made whippy ice cream, where my wife got the 'Whitella' which is their own version of Nutella flavour whippy ice cream. This was also really nice.Then the next day we decided to go back for more pizzas as they were so good (after walking all the way to the lighthouse and back)Again the pizzas were really good!Each time we visited the staff were really pleasant and friendly (even asked us how the Pizza was when we went back for gelato).We look forward to visiting again in a future where we can actually sit in and enjoy some lovely pizza.Highly recommend this place, especially if you want amazing gelato, hot chocolate or pizza)

Fantastic selection of flavours of Ice Cream, and the Cannoli sweet pastries also have to be devoured! A definite stop off (usually more than once) whenever we visit the area.

Pizza was excellent as always and the kids loved the carbonara. A lot of work has clearly been put into making the restaurant as Covid safe as possible. I’d like to see the waiter service continue in place of ordering at the till.

Coffee beautiful. Ice cream the best I have ever tasted. We had the whitella and it was absolutely gorgeous. Very reasonable price too. Benches outside the shop over looking the sea, beautiful views.

We always visit here for ice cream whenever we’re at the coast and the ice cream is lovely. Great selection and tasty. The staff are mostly teenagers who are always friendly. However, on a couple of occasions now some of the older members of staff who seem to be more senior have really put me off. It’s like an effort for them to serve you. On one occasion earlier in the year there was a young girl in her teens which served me at the end of the day as the shop was closing, she was sweet but a little nervous, the girl ran the money through the till and the older lady with dark hair went mad at the girl saying she’d just tallied that all up and she’d have to do it all again now. The way she spoke to her was so unpleasant. I would’ve been very upset had that been my daughter probably her first job working on a weekend for a bit of pocket money. The senior member of the team humiliated her and I imagine her confidence would’ve been severely knocked. We’ve been again today and as my husband as children were waiting outside in the queue for ice cream I popped into the shop to order a takeaway pizza. I mistakenly forgot to put on my mask and the lady looked at me in pure disgust and said rather rudely ‘don’t I have a mask’ to which I apologised and said I did, and put it on. It was my mistake not to pop my mask on, but the way staff treat you leaves a very bad taste than even ice cream doesn’t take away. Think we’ll be giving this place a miss in future.

The best Ice Cream I’ve ever eaten - period. We had a mixture of flavours; Salted Caramel, Cherry and something with Cinder Toffee (I think from memory). All top draw and my 2 year old Grandson had a go at all of them. Really really lovely. Our only complaint was having to wait in a fairly long queue, no seriously this was no hardship.

This is some of the best ice cream we've ever tasted. It was so good we came back the next day in the rain to get some more! Go find out yourselves!

Probably the creamiest ice cream we’ve ever tasted. A sort of Nutella type flavour - all original. Went to the hut on the beach not the restaurant. Would be good if they could put the menu/list on a board for people to look at while they queued (it was a big old queue)

This is now our go to gelato shop when in Whitley Bay. We had a mini staycation and the holiday wouldn’t have been complete without some of their finest products. The cherry was the best this time in my opinion (and my children’s)!

The best ice cream in Whitley Bay (sorry I should say gelato ). A great range of flavours and a good price. Today we were having a trip to the beach and so called here in the way, before we became sandy messes.The choices were two chocolate and vanilla cones for the children. I had a three scoop tub with amerena cherry, bounty (coconut) and chocolate. They were all great.

This place was recommended and was really lovely, great staff, great food. I’ve cream was delicious and great flavours! Highly recommend.

Best Ice cream I have ever tasted, and the Di Meos fries are so yummy that I have been making my own version at home ever since. Great cafe atmosphere. Always busy indoors which I like. Of course if its sunny, there are plenty of seats outside. I go about once a week now, a real asset to Whitley Bay.

By far and away the best gelato/ice cream in the country.. after a lovely walk along the beach with our pooches we stopped for fish and chips at a local chippy that was shockingly bad, but Di Meos saved our night by serving up the very best tasting ice cream, just live this place and the staff that work there always so happy and friendly.. highly recommend

I always go for cookies and cream with a scoop of something different. The best ice cream ever. They also do pizza, cakes and cones. Which are all authentic Italian food.

Group of 4 visited last minute after being let down by another restaurant over a booking. Pizza , pasta and salad ordered and delivered in a timely manner. We enjoyed a bottle of house wine with our meal and followed with desserts to share. The place was busy with families and couples alike. The staff were predominantly young, they were very efficient and friendly with it! We were not expecting to visit DiMeo’s though I will have no hesitation in returning.

The ice cream here is delicious and they have really interesting flavours. Worth it even in winter. Yum.

Went for the ice cream, stayed for the cannoli! Gorgeous! You can even get a great pizza here although we didn’t try it this time.

New Year's Day so busy but absolutely lovely. We were out for a walk on the seafront and stopped for a treat. Ordered a latte, a large cappuccino, two lemon cannoli and an icecream- two scoops of battenburg and tiramisu . It was all delicious. Great coffee, ice cream to die for- hard to pick from the fabulous homemade range, cannoli wete delicious too. Good price too. Arrived quickly, staff were so nice and very helpful. The menu is great. It is a family run business with everything homemade, Italian specialities and deserves all the accolades it gets from locals. Everything we saw being served looked fab.

Delicious. Di Meos serves some of the best ice cream and pizza I’ve ever eaten. If your in W/Bay, try there if your crazy enough to not have already.

I have been going here for Ice creams for over 20 years and never been disappointed. Recently I have tried their pizzas and they were great. Good atmosphere and quick service meant a fantastic afternoon out for a group of 10.

The atmosphere was really great - buzzing. Despite being fairly full, the wait for service was quite short and the meal to a standard higher than the exterior of the building suggested. Well worth a visit, but be aware it gets noisy!

Absolutely fantastic as usual! Everything really is amazing. The ice cream was good. It was reasonable and well priced furthermore the pasta and fries are superb.

This is a nice ice cream shop but we have had better. The prices are a little high as the portions are only average. Pleasant on a sunny day and the service was a little abrupt too !

Visited with Family after not finding this place on our first visit to Whitley Bay, wow delicious ice cream with their Whitella (Nutella) Ice Cream mixed with Vanilla truly sensational.

Not just your average ice cream place. Serves wonderful flavours, such as lemon cheesecake, kinder, Ferraro rocher (personal favourite), chocolate brownie etc etc.

I’m a massive fan of ice cream and this place is my favourite. Always visit here when in Whitley bay always try a different flavour, she far we’ve had Nutella , milky bar , chocolate , club orange , coconut , cherry and my favourite is Nutella lovely staff stand in the que it will be worth it !! Little gem

Pizza is my obsession, and Di Meos do some of the best pizza around! Lucky to have it on my doorstep. Staff are really friendly too :)
