Dhillons Plaice in Coventry

Fantastic food and service, selection was great. Food was fresh, hot and enjoyed by all. Great to still be using cash as payment too.

Me and the lads at work have a takeaway every 2 weeks when we are on late shift, and usually we go Dhillons Plaice, but guess what, not no more! We would usually order online between £40 to £70 a pop and then pick our stuff up about an hour later. Every time we pick it up and get back onsite at work, there is stuff MISSING without fail on every order. You have one job, if you can t do that properly then you should shut down! Joke of a chippy! We are now going potters green shops from now on and take our custom else where!

i ordered food from the website and selected the delivery for 20:30. I had a phone call at 18:10 that they are outside. I said i am at work and me and my colleagues have ordered food for 20:30 for our break time. I got another phone call just after 19:00 to say that on their side it says my delivery is for 19:30. I kindly told them that on my comfirmation email it clearly says delivery time 20:30. I then called the shop and told them and said can you please make sure its fresh food and not the food that they had packed earlier. They said ok. When the food arrived it was all stale and semed like they had kept it warm (maybe oven or where they keep their cooked fish and sausages) I normally enjoy their food. I was very disappointed this time. I called the chip shop and they said that the food was made fresh, but trust me, it wasnt. The fish n chips, fish cakes, scallop, and chips were not fresh. Stale and rubbery. And also lying to me that the food was fresh on the phone was wrong. Whats happened to customer service?

This 'place' has received a gold award. Not sure why. The cod was overcooked and fried in old oil No way could we eat it and I can still taste the little I did manage to eat.. Cannot say it would be a one-off. Surely they could tell before frying it. Simply by the smell of it. As per a previous seemingly snide reply of taking food back by the owner to another review. The extra cost and time involved just wasn't worth it.

Best fish and chips in Coventry hands down. Battered the fish to perfection. Loverly chunky fillet of fish. Chips also 10/10. Nice portion size. Highly recommend

I have read the reviews previous and can only presume they had a one off experience. Within this area of Coventry it is the best chippy by far. .

My family and I ordered some very delicious food that went down a treat last night. We ordered a large haddock and chips, mini fish and chips and a large curry sauce. Everything was cooked to perfection. Excellent customer service provided each time, when you are a regular, they remember your order too, that’s always an added bonus 😃

I visited Dhillon’s Plaice at lunch time for a couple of cones of chips and a fish cake. What I received for each portion was probably the equivalent of half a cone in a tray. Worse than that was the attitude of the person who served me. He appeared put out that I requested to pay by card, and when I politely asked if I could please see the display before tapping my card on the reader he was clearly not happy. When the receipt was printed he held it up to me and said, “See, I only took £5.” This was in front of another customer, and was said in a way that insinuated that I was questioning his honesty. As a business owner myself, I wouldn’t dream of requesting someone tap the card reader without first showing the amount they are being charged. To attempt to embarrass me in front of other customers was also unprofessional. Mistakes can easily be made with card readers, and showing the customer the amount they are being charged is not only good business practice, but it allows any accidental errors to be sorted out before the money has been taken. All in all a disappointing visit, and I was still hungry!

Finally after years of average food, this place gets good management at last and can finally give Charlie’s Plaice down the road a run for it’s money. Fish and chips from Dhillon’s are always superb but a special mention has to go to their mixed chicken kebab meat and chips in a tray, which is a great alternative. Staff are also very friendly. We’ve enjoyed supporting this small local business during the Covid-19 pandemic. Keep up the good work guys.

Best chippy in Coventry. Very friendly and professional staff. The shop was clean and welcoming. Food was so tasty and fresh. Presentation was excellent. It’s what you would call a 5* Fish and Chip Shop! Definitely worth a visit. Highly recommended. You won’t be disappointed!

Don’t know why I keep going back to this place, most miserable service, order more than 2 items and they get it wrong, as bad as kfc, won’t be going back,1/10

You'll wait a little longer for your food at Dhillon's because they cook the fish fresh to order (and rightly so!). The fish is flaky and delicious, the batter is light and crispy and they pack it all in a cardboard box which is so much better than getting your fish wrapped in paper (which makes the batter soggy). Great portion sizes and the savaloy and southern fried chicken are amazing too, the chips are the best I've had from a chippy. Decent prices and an extensive menu. I won't go anywhere else for fish and chips!

Have had fish and chips from here twice now, you have to wait for fish to be cooked, this is how it should be. Fish and chips were prefect, staff are helpful and friendly, shop appears to be very clean. Would highly recommend this establishment.

Awesome kebabs Fish tasted delicious - both mini and large were decent sizes with good, crispy batter. Most importantly, the chips are the best. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Highly recommend
