Not been for about 1 year. Today went for Sunday lunch. Had a drink in the bar before going to our table. Had the roast beef (pink). It was cooked to perfection and very tasty. Couldn’t fault all the accompaniments. Ordered cauliflower cheese as an extra and it was so flavoursome. Me and my husband always rate places with “if it’s better than we cook at home then it’s worth going back” and we will disunity be going back. It was a lovely dinner, I didn’t have room for a pud. All staff lovely and very friendly.

Really great visually Clean with interesting decor and relaxing at the same time Plenty of space between tables. Good service. Possibly would go again with having some knowledge of the food now and ask questions before choosing. Cajun salmon served with veg and and vintage cheddar sauce. The plate was awash with the sauce Tiny portion mushy veg buried under the salmon. Lovely flavoured sauce. Battered cod huge- batter excellent. Could have done with more than a tablespoon of peas and the twice cooked chips were very dry and more like thrice cooked. Excellent chicken breast but served with overcooked pasta ribbons. Prices between £16.50 and £18.50 which I would have said is fair had all offerings been cooked to perfection

What fantastic food we were served on New year's eve night at the Devonshire. Been many times but they exceeded all expectations. All courses were fabulous, maybe a little large, but our appetite isn't as good as our younger days. The entertainment was also top notch, faultless. We committed ourselves to a house party for bringing in the new year which was a huge mistake, recommend this night to everyone 10/10.

Rang to book a table for Saturday lunchtime. No problem at same day notice. Arrived and it does look different because they can’t lay up the tables as they normally do because of COVID and having to anti bac everything so regularly. But have to say we felt very safe all the time we were there, and were given hand sanitizer for the table and the cruet was wiped in front of us before being placed on the table. The staff were lovely and cheerful and really made us welcome. We had a lovely chat with most of them during the course of our visit. Now the important bit ... The food. Superb!

Very disappointed with the food today I had salmon fish cake to start when it came it’s was cold,I told the waitress who was really apologetic and took it back, she came back out to say they was doing another one. Came with another one and it was very piping hot,I couldn’t eat it for a while, surely the chef as a good probe to check temperatures? I had to leave half of it as it blistered my mouth. The mains came out and the pork was really tough and chewy, the roast potatoes and stuffing was very hard and the gravy far to rich that gave me stomachache all day. Very disappointed. Two stars that I’ve given are for the staff waiting on staff as they where second to none Definitely won’t be going back for Sunday lunch

We recently emailed the Dev with our concerns (as below) and have no response!!! We have been quite regular visitors for almost 3 years now and have always enjoyed our visits, as have our two golden retrievers and have generally been made most welcome. Our regular visit would normally entail an afternoon drink and meal from the lunchtime menu, but have also made many evening visits with friends and family. A sequence of events over a period of time have culminated in our reluctant decision to seek out and take our business to a different establishment. 1. Our regular daytime visit consisted of arriving mid afternoon for drinks and a lunchtime (smaller) meal in the bar area. However, the deadline for ordering was changed from 4.00 to 2.30 which was not great for our routines and ultimately reduced the number of visits we could make. We challenged the decision with a senior member of staff who told us it was made so the chef(s) could have a 'bit of a rest'. What's inconsistent is that main meals are available all day??? So, if we wanted to do our afternoon visit; arrival after 2.30 not acceptable, but if we did arrive after 2.30 and ordered a larger meal from the main menu the chef would somehow find the energy!! 2. The lunchtime menu changed and sausages & mash (one of our regular choices) was removed, disappointing!! We queried this with a senior member of staff and were told if we asked for the sausage and mash as was on the lunchtime menu, we could have it....and have done so on occasions since, great. Today we planned a visit and were really looking forward to sausage and mash, when we tried to order them we were told it was not possible because it was on the main menu and if we wanted them the only way we could have them was to order from the main menu at main menu prices & portions. 3. Recently, we arrived at 2.31 and were told it was too late to order from the lunchtime menu, not great, in fact, disappointed is a very weak description of how we felt that day. Now disillusioned but positive in our drive to find another Dev which we have now done, silly on their part because we've spent some £1000's there in the past, their loss.

lovely atmosphere but food a letdown, the lasagne was topped beautifully but the meat was dry and pretty boring, the chips had the appearance of refried (visit was lunchtime before 13.00) and basically not good enough to eat, the belly pork was tough certainly not slow roasted had the appearance of "yesterdays reheated",cant say i would recommend if you eat well

A wonderful birthday treat from my daughter and son-lovely tastefully decorated venue with a wonderful menu all served up by a lovely friendly waiter and waitresses - special mention to Adam who made us feel especially welcome. The table had been decorated with birthday balloons. We had the garlic mushrooms for starters - wow the best starter I’ve ever had. Main course was pheasant - absolutely gorgeous. Pudding - lemon meringue cheesecake - yum. Absolutely faultless delicious food. A fabulous evening and most definately recommend.

Met up for an around Xmas dinner with my ex-colleague from work and our wives. Been over a year since I last visited here. The restaurant was very nicely decorated. The layout of the rooms, the placement of the tables, gave an air of exclusivity and despite being busy I felt we not overheard or felt crowded in any way. We had pre-meal drinks in the bar, nice choice of beers and lagers. The table was laid to a high standard. Impressed by the quality of the cutlery and glassware. We had 4 different starters and 4 mains. Including ham hock terrine, salmon fishcake, beef and ale pie, blade of beef, fish and chips and partridge breast. Presentation of the dishes was spot-on. Simple construction and not overly busy. Really nice. Our server was a very personable guy. Answered my question about my beer with a depth of knowledge. Attention at table was probably one of the best I have encountered. Attentive without being overbearing. Always there at the right time. Respectable delay to clear table. Could not fault him. Very impressed. He could fit in easily to a top city restaurant. Overall a great evening with friends we care about. Well done The Dev.

Luckily we have this lovely place very local to us and we visit at least once a month. We took mum's and grandma's for mothers day so there were 12 of us in total. On arrival all the mum's were given a beautiful orchid in a box which was a lovely touch. The place was decorated with purple tulips and balloons. We pre ordered the food but forgot what we had ordered and our locely attentive waitresses Claire brought a copy to look at. We had two oaps who they allowed to have childrens meals which is good as adult meals would have been wasted on them. The food as always was beautiful and we all agreed it was the best Sunday dinner we have ever had out. My family came from gunthorpe in Nottingham and have asked me to book for Easter Sunday as they want to come again. Extra veg and gravy was provided and even a special dessert that is there speciality that wasn't on the pre order menu but was brought out on request. Such a friendly attentive waitress called Claire but all of the staff couldn't help enough. Highly recommended

My wife and I visited the Devonshire on the 16th Feb for a meal, we have been several times before, and it is one of the few places we visit in the area, maybe a touch expensive, but the food is good and the service is excellent, we have been Disappointed so many times with the food and service in most of the places in north Derbyshire, so now we only go to three that we think offer good food and a pleasant dining experience.

On recommendation from our friend & we left feeling we would be visiting again. All the staff were friendly & polite which was very recognisable during our visit. The food was ok & not get the wow factor! Thought the my lads (6yrs old) food from the kids menu was quite large portions which he enjoyed thoroughly. My wife had the belly pork (she was disappointed as they was no crackling) I had the blade of beef which I enjoyed but found the mash dry & could of done with some extra gravy. The starters were nice & tasty which we enjoyed. The only negative I'm going to say about the place is when I was waiting in the bar waiting for my wife to meet us they was a adult in the bar with a large dog (nothing against that but found it odd in such a nice place) but he was using foul language (not loud) which I found it off putting especially as I had my 6yr old with me. Right the business?

Brilliant overall experience. Very friendly staff that couldn't do enough for you. Lovely atmosphere and outstanding food made this night one to remember. One of the most comfortable dining experiences I've ever had. No one is clashing elbows next to you as all the seating has plenty of space. Will definitely be returning and most definitely be recommending it to all my friends and family.

Came out for a quiet meal with husband and as we like to support local businesses we booked the Devonshire. Upon arrival found parking quite difficult as not enough space for the volume of customers but eventually managed to get into a space. Had a drink in the bar before being shown to our table. The wait to be seated after our booking time was acceptable. The menu was as expected however couldn't see the new dishes that I was expecting due to "a new menu" being advertised. I had the steak pie which was incredibly salty and when mentioned to staff was told that some people find it salty and to fill in a comment card.

We visited the Dev on Saturday 11th Feb for our early valentines meal and what another fab meal it was. My fish cake starter was good as always but my main was to die for. It was off the specials menu and was the wild roast duck with creamy mash caramelised cabbage and leeks with bacon. This is definitely something that should be on the menu all the time as it was Devine. The only issue I have is that although it's very well presented in bowls this makes it quite difficult to eat as I've found with other meals I've had here but all in all a great place to dine and I'm so glad it's on my door step. Keep up the good work

We went after a walk in nearby Clumber park and had booked in advance for a party of 7 plus high chair. It was the first time I had visited this newly refurbished restaurant and I'll certainly be back. The decor is really soothing and with table allocation well thought through (we had young children and were well away from others) a relaxed meal was had. The food was delicious with slightly different vegetables to give the finishing touch. Extra gravy was brought without being requested. One meal was missed off but this was handled well by the serving staff. Thank you.

What a huge surprise the Devonshire Arms what a change, the surrounding are classy and impressive. The food was very good, lots of choice, large portions and quality taste. The atmosphere was relaxing and the staff were very professional and hard working. My friends and I were very impressed and I will be visiting again and recommending the Devonshire to my friends and family.

Visited with my partner for her birthday. Booked weeks in advance and requested a table tucked away. When we arrived we were seated next to the steps of the main dining room and the kitchen, undoubtedly the most trafficked part of the dining area. Perhaps this restaurant should stop thinking it's special and instead put the effort into being special by paying attention.

We just got back from a 3 night stay. The pub has a cosy country atmosphere and is perfectly positioned on the Chatsworth estate. We stayed in a 4 poster room (Hilltop) The room was very clean with a lovely atmosphere, ample furniture, a sofa and a wonderful bathroom with walk in shower. The only downside for us was a very soft bed but this might be fine for others. Breakfast was served to us not buffet style. We fully recommend the full Devonshire all items were quality made, well cooked delicious and hot. We had our evening meal here on the first night the food was very good although we did feel our table was very close to the couple beside us. 99% of staff were friendly and courteous and I guess everyone can have an off day! We would highly recommend this hotel. It’s worth paying that little bit extra for. If we return to glorious Derbyshire again we will definitely be back.
