Bit of a last minute booking and turned out very nice. Great staff, reasonable prices, good beer selection and the Sunday roast was great.

We don’t venture out very often but as it was our son’s 18th birthday so we decided to go to the local pub for his first legal pint. We had such an awesome night, that we had planned to go to a few of the pubs in Edwinstowe but ended up staying here the whole evening. The staff and customers made the night, many people wished our son happy birthday and he had a lot of drinks bought for him from complete strangers, the atmosphere and community spirit is awesome, will definitely venture out more often and they’re dog friendly so win win ☺️

The food was great, plenty of it and beautifully presented. Better than most restaurants. The staff were friendly and accommodating. A thoroughly enjoyable evening. Thank you to all.

We were looking for a pub lunch following a walk around Sherwood forest and we stumbled upon the Royal Oak. Nicely decked out with a good choice of cask ales, our party of 4 got a table easily on a Monday lunchtime. We hadn't researched the place and weren't sure what to expect on the menu, but there was a good choice of pub classics. They have a "lighter bites" menu as well as one for kids. Service was fantastic throughout and the food was great. Would thoroughly recommend it.

Lovely & peaceful on a Tuesday afternoon. Beet selection was good + reasonably priced. Didn't have food , just chips which were a bit " Mehh" .. due to being so overcooked / crispy. Not just overcooked but really just crispy chip shapes. 3 portions all the same - maybe it's on purpose we didn't like them . 7 blokes .. all disliked them . Maybe you won't ?! .. Ordered 3 other portions later , (because blokes never learn by their mistakes !) & These were reasonably cooked decent chips. Clean . Clean tables. Good professional happy service. Good location. Reconnect

A lovely pub! We came here whilst in Nottingham for the week and service were kind and helpful. Food portions were massive and tasted amazing.

Went here for a meal with partner while staying somewhere close by for the weekend. Staff were friendly and welcoming, the food was high quality and the desserts we had were amazing.

To say this is pub food would be somewhat underselling it – this is proper quality fare presented in a stylish way. I had the poached salmon, which was honestly one of the best fish dishes I've had in ages, while my husband had the rump steak with a range of really interesting accompaniments. The mini dessert with a hot drink offer is well worth going for as well (even the 'mini' portions are pretty generous!). Staff were all super friendly as well to top off an all-round great experience.

Popped in for a Sunday lunch. Absolutely superb, very good food, they had real ales. Good service, it was very busy (probably because it’s so good), I would highly suggest booking over the weekend. Loads of car parking out the back.

My husband and I had a meal on Saturday evening. I had the Turkey Roulade and my husband had steak. Both were delicious. Staff were friendly but not intrusive. No complaints, in fact we recommended it to friends not from Edwinstowe.

Food was lovely and portions were big. Really liked the seating and atmosphere inside too. Some of the waiters were brilliant, others were 'busy' on there phone behind there bar.

Beef was a bit too pink for my liking but the rest of the meal could not be faulted

We visited for cocktails, the cornstarch martini was fab! Shame there was no passion fruit with it though. Bonus it was pub quiz night! Thoroughly enjoyed the quiz and card bingo. Atmosphere was great. Everyone including the customers were friendly and welcoming. Will definatley be back to try the food also.

This is a fabulous local pub - stayed in Edwinstowe for a few days. Great food and atmosphere and great time at the weekly Sunday night quiz!

A lovely DOG friendly pub which looks after their customers and can pour a good pint. I wasn't lucky enough to have food however will be back to try.

We had two fantastic pizzas today and week days pm to 5pm are half price. Very comfortable pub with friendly bar manager. Very clean with excellent layout and dog friendly barside. We had a very relaxing meal there. Would definitely recommend. Great parking at the rear.

Food was expensive for what it was it was very salty

Just had the Royal Oak Sunday roast. Wow! the beef was pink and succulent, the roasties were perfect as was the Yorkshire pudding, vegetables and gravy and they don’t skimp on the portions. The staff were helpful and friendly and I love that they don’t cram too many tables into the restaurant. My daughter was bowled over by the lemon tart and raspberry dessert. We’ll definitely be booking again soon.

Lovely Sunday dinner and plenty for your money. It was only let down by the roast potatoes which were certainly over cooked. The bar also has a good selection of beer and ales on tap and draught.

Very comfy place with typical pub vibes, good local food and good atmosphere. The food is good and the staff is great. They also offer a variety of drinks and cocktails, pizza also for lunch and vegetarian/vegan options too.

Great gastro pub. Food was amazing! Great presentation an flavours. Right down the road from Sherwood Forest. Very reasonably priced for the quality of food.

Great food, great service and great place to eat

We ate at The Royal Oak twice during the week we were visiting the area and we weren't disappointed. Huge portions and great flavours. The seafood platter, camembert, steak, pork steak, bao buns and blade of beef were all very tasty but the piece de resistance are the truffle fries! Best truffle fries we've had. The sticky toffee pudding was also much appreciated by our friends, and the brownie is also very tasty.

A beautiful place, a modern and classic atmosphere, great food with well-calculated portions, very delicious beer and juicy fish and roast beef, a perfect place if you want to eat well and enjoy a typical but modern place.

Everything was good apart from the service which was awful. Left to wait ages despite repeatedly asking to order at the start, then pay at the end. Plenty of staff available, just not attentive or communicative

Lovely staff, always smiling from the time we walked in, to thanking us as we left, and nothing was any trouble. The Sunday Roast was fantastic. The beef and pork belly were cooked to perfection and were very good portion sizes. The sticky toffee pudding and Brownie are also highly recommended, if you have room, maybe share like we did. Thanks, Royal Oak team, we will be back.

Really bad service despite fantastic menu: we booked a table for 6. Incapable of taking orders before full group arrived, despite politely asking and explaing the situation. Hostile attitude from all staff members durimg each interaction, never received a food order -- all with eye rolls and sighs. Not sure if our European background was the issue. The cherry on top was the attempt to try to charge for drinks that never arrived. Avoid.

1st time visiting we had 3 meals all very tasty, children's meal came with a I've cream and cone which my grandson enjoyed along with his pizza the Korean tacos and burger we had were also very good would go again when in the area again

Good food for value as always, great service and lovely staff. However, we have been going to the Royal Oak for some years and for some reason they have changed the wine - it is dreadful! Never been a problem in the past but if you don’t stock decent, drinkable wine don’t have it on the menu.

Well where do I starts really unhappy with the whole experience firstly we booked a table but didn’t get seated untill 10 mins after far does then didn’t have carvery was a Sunday dinner they bought to meat out then put your own veg on the veg was rock solid the mash potatoes was like water yuck then the kids meals or steak aka with chips the chips was not cooked at all and as raw inside and hard but they bought all adult out first and bought children’s out last the children was very hungry by this stage skip to the dessert the yet again kids was last but they apparently forgot one of the children’s desserts and the waitress spilts chocolate sauces off the pudding onto my family member went down her dress and in her hair which wouldn’t come out very disappointed with the whole experience and very slow service

Very nice pub but I can see how people say it is a wannabe gastro pub but is definitely a local pub. The staff are friendly and polite but the service was very slow indeed. The food was good for pub grub and was great being a very dog friendly place which is what drew us in to start with.

Just wonderful. Great food. Party of 8 with two dogs for Sunday lunch. Drinks and food orders were taken quickly and arrived quickly. Every course was excellent, a cut above. They catered for the Coeliac in our party with ease and without fuss (gluten free). The staff were attentive and welcoming. The interior of the pub is a delight, much better than the exterior would suggest. Happy to recommend. (Including the beef - it was a perfect. No sign of the problems encountered in other reviews). Finally, this is a busy pub at Sunday lunchtime, you will need to book for larger parties.

We paid a visit and took a while to get a menu as we wanted dinner. We asked if we could order after a little while, but the female said that there was a table of 8 and 2 others and it would take a while to take our order, but would we like a drink while we wait. Some 35 minutes later, we got asked if we were ready to order. Meals then came out 30 minutes later and went to ask for some condiments, and she walked away. Most of the staff appeared to be standing around talking to each other, and when asked for something by another customer snapped back at the other customer saying she was busy. The service was basically slow and the staff did not have a focus on the customers.

Me and my good friend visited the Royal Oak yesterday afternoon, I don’t often leave a review but I felt inclined to as we had such a lovely time and was looked after very well by the lovely staff team. We sat on a table outside in the sun and it was just brilliant vibes all around. We felt very welcome and comfortable. We did go inside to order food and drinks and use the facilities which were immaculate and the inside of the pub was just lovely and had a very relaxing atmosphere. The bar staff were very attentive and friendly, I believe it was a gentlemen named Chris who took mine and my friends food order and I must admit we were both being a bit of a pain in the bum asking lots of questions about the food (as she was getting over a badly stomach and I have some texture issues with certain foods) Chris was extremely patient and understanding while also exchanging in some friendly banter which was really appreciated as other places have made me feel very awkward for asking the same questions but I felt very at ease with Chris. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals which we ate outside, I had a pizza and I must say it was the best pizza I have had in years, absolutely beautifully crafted and so flavourful. The young man (I regret to have not caught his name) was also very helpful and checked on us and promptly provided more condiments for us. The lady that brought our food out was also very lovely and welcoming to us, just an overall brilliant staff team here and you can tell that they take pride in what they do it really shows. We will definitely be visiting again and recommending this lovely pub.

Service and staff really attentive and helpful

An establishment trying so hard to be middle class despite having a very much working class clientele (which is why you charge stupid prices for a pint). Management is aloof and rude, a sentiment I have heard from many people locally, and no amount of labelling this place as a “Gastropub” will make it anything more than a local boozer cosplaying as a Michelin Star Restaurant. Oh and the menu often has grammatical mistakes on it - spellcheck is free.

The young staff didn't seem to know what they were doing. Brought the wrong order too and overcharged. Expensive and no atmosphere.

Absolutely stunning Sunday Roast! The beef was pink and melted in my mouth, all the accompaniment were also delicious, and I topped if off with a fresh, cream Pavlova. Will definitely return if I'm in the area again, if you're local, then I'm genuinely envious.

Shocking. 1hr 30min wait for a shocking Sunday roast, the beef was that chewy we couldn’t eat it, the veg was raw and everything else was cold. I had to pay the full bill of £45 with no reductions I will not be recommending this place all in all a terrible experience and a waste of money.

Been here a few times over the last couple of years. The food is alright - I'm vegan, but there aren't a huge array of options unfortunately. The cauliflower wings were good, but these have been taken away from the menu now. The new vegan tart is less of a tart as it has no sides, with some roasted vegetables. Tasted fairly good, fresh, but very expensive for what it is. Considering I went with my dad once who had a massive non-vegan burger, with chips for about the same price. Staff are incredible though and very welcoming.

Visited the Royal Oak yesterday. The food was amazing. Thanks for putting on a fantastic day for Ash and Emma's wedding. We will definitely be back soon.

The food seems to have gone down hill recently, the service from the young girls however was brill. They were very helpful 🙂 just a bit disappointed with the quality of the food for the high price.

Had the beef roast dinner. Beef was of very low quality. Very fatty and chewy. Dinners look nice stylishly plated up but unfortunately once you begin eating it's a case of style over substance. Would not recommend. Will not be returning.

Fish was good, chunky chips very dry, same goes for the mushy peas, very expensive, same meal, much cheaper in Windsor, will not go back in a hurry.

Great evening at the comedy club night.

Can't believe price absolutely over priced macdonalds sauces.waitress service as if u wasn't there, having to Flagg them down..never to return. The plaice fish was a mixture of bitte4 taste

Came for the comedy night. Was absolutely fantastic. Quick service at the bar. Lovely and clean. Would recommend, didn't eat but my mother in law says the food is amazing.

We ordered the sandwiches with their option for soup and fries as addition. First they served a wrong sandwich and afterwards not the included fries or soup. So the price doubled for us. When you order here be careful of being scammed. This is why we are giving 1 star. The food was good.

Had a couple of drinks and went round the shop

Lunch time break. The Chicken Taco was wonderful, the presentation and taste perfect. The let down, it was slightly messy to consume. Will I go back, definitely yes, will I have the same again, certainly as this may have been a one-off.
