Devonport Gastropub in Darlington

We enjoyed a fabulous meal in lovely surroundings. The staff were great and food was really tasty. Desserts were also fab with a good selection on offer.

Food and service excellent. Having had an episode where I passed out, (very hot day) the staff were brilliant and could not do enough for me. I will definitely go back

The mock cocktail had so much lime juice in it was undrinkable and had to send it back for more lemonade. My steak was tough and only bits eatable. Friend ordered another drink but did not get it. Staff friendly service ok

Been disappointed at so many pubs and restaurants lately, what a refreshing change the Devonport is. The staff couldn’t have been better 10/10 loved the decor, everywhere spotless. But best of all was the food . Wow it was so good , couldn’t fault anything, will definitely be back and would highly recommend it.

What a fantastic memory making day we had here today. We were a table of 14. Two families celebrating 2 birthdays. Sunday dinner, great as usual, but one thing that stood out by a mile and seems to be getting more and more rare, is the fabulous and attentive staff. Everyone was fantastic but one young waitress in particular (nose ring, sorry didn’t catch her name) was outstanding. She was confident, professional, fun, knowledgeable relaxed and nothing was a problem…. It is truly refreshing to experience the kind of service these young people provided today. A lot of other places don’t come close! You guys don’t realise the difference it makes… the food can be fabulous, but it’s the staff and service that make or break a restaurant. Well done…. You were brilliant! (Sorry if we were noisy!) Big shout out also to the fantastic singer on today too… he even sang happy birthday for us! Just great. X

Such a shame that I am disappointed with today’s visit for my partners birthday lunch. The location and setting are second to non & the majority of staff are excellent. Both My Partner and her Mam are Veggie and over many years of eating out today was one of the poorest experiences of lack of knowledge nd poor customer service when ordering A Butternut,Leek & Feta pie. The ordering resulted in a number of questions by the waitress back nd forth to the Chef - Simple answers that should of been known upon ordering / The veggie meal came and the pie didn’t even have any Leeks inside and was a tiny portion. We were informed that there would be no Leeks on the side which would be replaced by mixed vegetables as reasonable adjustment but not informed there were non in the main pie. It’s difficult enough to find suitable locations that accommodate decent choices of vegetarian meals. This experience has without a doubt put us off revisiting for food which is such a shame. A Positive is that my main meal was very tasty and good value

We popped in for a late lunch as we had been for a walk along the river Tees nearby The pub has a great atmosphere and a fantastic menu and wine list, and it is very dog friendly We had a lovely meal and I particularly recommend the crab salad, the spicy prawns and the scotch egg Many thanks to Sarah Bradley, who is front of Howes and the rest of her staff for making us so very welcome We very much look forward to our next visit. Hopefully the Sun will be shining and we can sit outside on their lovely terrace.

Stayed here on a the Sunday Saver Lunch and B&B &£110.00 for 2 !! and everything was fabulous ! Check in cheerful , helpful receptionist Front facing bedroom was beautiful,gorgeous decor,fab bathroom ,immaculate and quiet to sleep. The Sunday lunch was perfection and staff very attentative. We continued our afternoon with drinks and coffee in the Bar area with open fire and friendly folk. Dogs were welcome and the whole place just had a vibrant but cosy atmosphere. We slept like babies in a beautiful bed and next day breakfast was as equally fabulous ! The whole building is stunning as is the village with pleasant walks along the river.Whats not to like! We will return , recommended to friends Shout out to Beth in the bar who was so smiley and helpful and stayed around late to serve drinks ,nothing was a bother to her.

Had an absolutely amazing breakfast, everything was cooked beautifully and portion sizes were good. The service was fantastic, lady that served us was very attentive and professional. Overall the best breakfast I’ve had in a very long time!

We had our Christmas day lunch here,greeted with drinks then canapés followed by a superb lunch, l had crab starter,duck followed by lovely dessert, service was excellent and staff were all dressed for the occasion, a wonderful Christmas day thank you

Family Christmas Day lunch first in a few years and not to be repeated here. Poor value for money a small lunch with only a carrot for veg. Service not much better had an ask for drinks. Also nil Xmas atmosphere. So disappointed.

The Sunday Lunch was spot on and The Yorkshire Puddings are out of this world. we thought we would stop here for our Sunday Lunch and we are so glad that we did. The Gravy is so well balanced with the right ingredients and if you Get the Gravy Right then the rest of the Meal plan will follow,The Staff are just lovely and we will tell you now we shall return.

We stayed here for one night in Dec 23 and were pleasantly surprised with the menu options, friendliness of service, general decor and village pub appeal. The inn footprint is quite large with a car park to the rear and we had a lovely breakfast on Sunday morning with locals wandering in for a cuppa on their morning walks. This says a lot for the friendliness of the welcome here. The rooms are nicely decorated, with a feel of quality including the bathrooms. The menu choice and standard is above what you would normally expect as a village inn and the service was very friendly. The festive decor is of good quality and tasteful for those of you who are into that kind of thing and all in all it was a very pleasant experience👍

Thought we'd try for Sunday lunch as a change to our usual and were not disappointed. Everything on the plate was well cooked and delicious. Best Sunday lunch we've had. Service a bit slow but the place was full but staff very friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for us. Will definitely be back and not just for Sunday lunch.

As always the ambience and staff always deliver. However the mushroom risotto I found inedible tonight which was a real shame. It was a grey, soggy, buttery mess - sadly I won’t be back

We had a thoroughly enjoyable Sunday lunch at this aesthetically pleasing restaurant today. The pork belly was particularly tasty. Well done. We'll be back.

Well worth the wait for the refurbishment of the Davenport we went on Saturday night and where not disappointed. The refurbishment has been done to a high standard. The quality of the food and service was fantastic we will be back again

Wow what a transformation you would hardly recognise it. It has been gutted and tastefully re done. We visited before the official opening and they were very busy but still kept a high standard in both food and service. Looks like I have found my new local great beer and food in a friendly atmosphere.

The wait is finally over. At last our new village pub has opened its doors. What a transformation. Fantastic food, great beer and wine. I had the best king prawn tempura of my life last night and the pie was to die for. Cosy real fires and superb friendly service. If you want a tip – go now before it gets so popular you can’t get in.

Excellent carvery choice of 3 meats all piping hot a good choice of vegetables. Nice friendly Staff set in an excellent location with views across the river

Took 3 times a dinner in this restaurant during my stay in the hotel. The food was good prepared, well presented and tasty. The service was nice.

when we arrived and booked in for dinner we expected just decent pub grub, very pleasantly surprised at the level of food and service we received. We booked in for two nights and the breakfast was one of the best hotel breakfasts we have had, no menu as such, just whatever you liked, and for me the omelette on the first morning was huge and very nice, my second day I asked for grilled cheese on toast with beans and was very pleased with it, nothing too much trouble for any of the staff, can't rate it enough.

Two menus to choose from. Food was hot, well cooked and well presented. Good beers and wines. We had a table in the quieter area so missed out on some of the atmosphere. Friendly staff.

Went to the devonport. A pub that used to use a lot in the past as had heard it had been taken over and decide to try it . The menu was limited with not much choices and the staff was arrogant food In general wasn't worth it they didn't have what I wanted an what did come was small and limited and bland wasn't what I expected from a so called gastropub would seriously have to improve substantially if I would bother to go back there it's a shame as the views and location are stunning set in a quiet village just need to have better selection on the menu and have classic dishes such as Parmos and other choices an a better selection for vegetarians hopefully if I return will have a better experience but I for one won't be rushing back in any hurry
