Derriford Chinese Takeaway in Plymouth

Have only ordered here a couple times and this was honestly one of the worst takeaways I've had! Service and speed was ok, the food just did not taste nice. We had kung po chicken and crispy shredded beef. The chicken was so sweet but tasteless, and the beef tasted like egg. It says almost like the batter was wrong or something. Noodles with beansprouts were below average and egg fried rice tasted like hard microwavable rice. I don't give bad reviews but this takeaway was not nice, I was really looking forward to it as well and it disappointed in more ways than one. 1/10 afraid.

Worst chinese in a long time however spring rolls and Noodles were OK... Highly recommend Orient Express in Leigham instead.

Just noticed they have a 1star food hygeine rating from the council from an inspection last month !!! For the amount of money they charge for the dishes I would advise spending some cash and clean the place up!

Have ordered from here a few times and the food has been good but it's gone downhill. Not only was some of our order missing, the chips were disgusting, the fried rice was flavourless and everything was soggy. Best to avoid.

Food arrived slightly late. Not a problem. It’s was very dry, even with curry sauce poured over it. Pancake rolls were so greasy it was literally leaking out of the bags they were in. Used to use this place a lot but won’t be ordering again.

Great value Chinese near Derriford.

2 hours late and everyone's annoyed. Might edit to have 2 stars if the food actually arrives- 3 if the food blows me away but based on the other reviews I largely doubt it. I know it's Christmas but not answering calls or updating status on the app has no excuse. Edit: took 3 hours on xmas Eve but delicious food and the lady serving said she was the only delivery driver with 15+ orders per hour, felt bad.

Awful delivery phoned up and they said it was being delivered 30mins later it arrives after the hour we had already been waiting

This place has to now be in the running for one of the worst chinese takeaways in Plymouth. If I could leave No Stars I would. Early last year they mixed King Prawn Balls in with the ordered Chicken Balls and when I phoned to complain, the girl who answered wasn't interested at all. There was no offer to send out another meal or any form of compensation. It is lucky we are not allergic to seafood as many are. We decided to stop using the place until last week when, due to a family bereavement out of area, I found myself on my own for a few weeks, and I called in on the way home last Friday. I ordered Noodles and Beansprouts to go with my main meal but got home to find just noodles. It isn't rocket science is it, but I was hungry and couldn't be bothered to go back out to change it. So this evening, again on the way home from work, I call in and order House Special Fried Rice with Singapore Noodles but guess what when I get home, No House Special Fried Rice, in fact No Rice dish at all, just some luke warm noodle dish with something that barely resembled Singapore style Noodles. They don't even have the excuse of being busy as I was the only one in there. When I rang to complain The girls answer was simply 'We don't do it on purpose'. This may sound picky, but let's face it, takeaway isn't cheap these days and it's a simple food ordering process with numbers. Unless we are prepared to empty the entire bag and open up each dish to check its contents before we leave the takeaway, we find ourselves either having to put up with what they have given us or go back out to get it changed, hardly something we want to do after a long day at work. I will definitely not be using the place again.

Both main dishes of Duck and Chicken Balls tasted weird, chips cold. Both of us had upset stomachs within an hour of eating it. Usually you're very good and we order once a week, but we won't be for a while now. Do you have a different chef or new owners as the standards are well below what we normally receive from You.

First time ordering, previously used yungs but left. Not too bad but felt everything was a little bland & a bit skimpy on the chips, will order a couple more times before deciding on a long term relationship ;-)

Food is really nice however their delivery service is awful, dont think their drivers are at fault i think it is their kitchen that is unable to prepare orders fast enough. Waited over 2 hours for food which is not acceptable.

Absolutely disgusting it was delivered nearly 2 hour late, tried to call the Chinese but constantly engaged tone, when it did finally arrive it was stone cold the curry sauce was jellyset, chicken fried rice was cold and tasted greasy and the spring rolls were greasy where they was cold, absolutely disgusting. It's not the first time either

Really tasty Chinese food. Big portions too.

To call this Chinese food would be akin to calling my cat a lion. A congealed wad of noodles, warm there was that, topped with some freezer bag vegetables and some radioactive-red slime. I cannot fully express how disappointing the food was, given the very low bar of delivered food. I can guarantee one thing about the food from Derriford Chinese, that even after having read this review, and calibrating your expectations accordingly, that it will be disappointing to you.

Absolutely awful nearly 2 hours wait for a cold meal costing £70

Ordered over two hours ago, unable to contact shop now closed,tried ringing 7 times ..I live ten minutes down the dam road..take my money with ease food didn't arrive never again 😭

Been an hour and a half, told the food was on the road to us over half an hour ago and its only 5 minutes drive away. They keep their phone engaged constantly. You can't run a business like this.

Food was an hour and half late ! Chips where soggy and tasted microwaved , rest of food was like it had been sat on a shelf for half a day , food was sweatier than a 30 stone bloke in eygpt!

hello derriford chinese youre chicken balls and egg fried rice was a good meal and delicious. but as ive only just discovered this moment my mixed meat chow mien turned out to be a vegetable chow mien. when ive been to chinese resturaunts or takeaways i always order a little bit extra and i'm always specific with what i eat because i am allergic to broccoli. thankfully i am ok but this is a clear warning sign that its important to get the orders right as much as possible also good money is paid. i'm letting it slip this time but id like to make you aware people do have allergies to certain foods which i know your aware of. thanks for reading my review.

chicken chow mein smelt like a public toilet, couldn’t eat it because of the stench and it didn’t even remotely resemble a chow mein. jumbo spring roll was fatty and only had bean sprouts in it. soup was watery and egg fried rice had no egg

Order took over 2 hours to arrive from ordering. When was delivered it had exploded in the delivery bag, driver took it back and was assured 20mins we would get a replacement, restaurant called and said the same. Yet over an hour later we have still yet to receive our food. We are absolutely starving, can't get through to the restaurant when we have tried calling. I will NOT be ordering from them again! If I could give 0 stars I would!

Been waiting 2 hours for my delivery now, what’s the point of having a phone number if you’re not going to pick the phone up- absolutely avoid at all costs. Food takes forever

We have used this chinese for many years but after today we will be looking for a new one! Very dissapointed and wondering if it is under new ownership or has a new chef! The prices have gone up but the quality has certainly gone down. The so called special fried rice was supose to have bbq sauce on it but was barely noticeable and the curry was almost like water. The chicken balls are also smaller and the batter soft. Sorry derriford but disapointed.

I ordered some crispy chilli beef and a house special fried rice and some soft noodles. The crispy chilli beef was crispy and phew! it was spicy, really nicely done. The house special fried rice was amazing tasting with massive bits of meat and a lovely smokey flavour. My partner really enjoyed her soft noodles too I saw that they were on justeat but decided to phone them directly because it's cheaper (no justeat service charge or markup) and the delivery was quicker than expected too. The delivery girl was really cheerful. Definitely ordering from here again

It's our usual Chinese takeaway, however the food wasn't very good this time, the food wasn't very hot even though it was delivered about 40 minutes after placing the order and the large pancake rolls batter were dripping in oil.

We love this takeaway, but the last 2 times that we have ordered it has taken 3 hours to get to us. Never again

This was our third order from the Derriford Chinese as we love the food. It is more authentic tasting than the ones more local to us.But don't order online! We would normally rate our xperience as a 5 but last night no. Last night we had a guest and decided to order a takeaway. As previously done, I placed an order online and waited and waited. The timer ran out on the app and it still said preparing. We waited another 30 minutes and nothing. I tried the online chat and it kept just chucking me out and asking for a rating! We tried for over a 30 minute period to get through via the telephone and when we did the lady was polite and said the sorry but the driver had just left. Our food would be 10 to 15 minutes. That was a lie! The food arrived 25 minutes later and was stone cold and inedible. We will still buy from here as the food is normally beautiful but will definitely collect in future.

Just moved back into the area after 18 years away, sweet and sour chicken & chicken fried rice was excellent. Would not hesitate to recommend Derriford Chinese Takeaway. . would not hesitate to recommend

Nice hot food .Very light on the salt which is a good thing as you can please yourself .Usually Chinese food is too salty as such this is the better way to go .

Ordered my food when it I was missing my noodles form my beef chow main rang them back to tell them and the the girl on the phone said they would send me other one I waited for 2 and half hours I rang them back again and was told that the chef did not believe me and said he did put noodles in and did,ut bother to do another one very poor service won't be using them again after being a long servicing customer

The person taking my order was so up beat i was laughing as I ordered and a credit to the takeaway. The food arrived within the 45 min time which on a Friday is fantastic. Food was spot on at a great price . Will def order again as this was my first order with these guys. No I am.not related to anyone at the takeaway just a v good experience. Keep it up

It was ok. 1 Wrong food given. Given a collection time on ordering but got there and it hasn’t been cooked so waited another 20 minutes. It was a Wednesday night so not a busy Friday/Saturday. Flavours weren’t there. Sweet and sour sauce was a bit funky tasting. Just disappointed.

I've got severe food poisoning from this takeaway and I have been really ill for 4 days now, still not recovered, must be a very unhygienic place.

Second time I've ordered food from here and both times have been good. Delivery driver really pleasant tonight, even if he had problems finding me! Thanks guys - keep up the good service!

The food that did show up was nice. Shame the other food ordered didnt show up. Over 100 calls to the chinese to try and retify the missing items and 'line busy' each time. No one to contact to rectify the issue, wont use again for the lack of customer service.

Ordered a takeaway it arrived one and a half hours late and cold ,phoned the shop to be told that it was Mother’s Day and they were busy. Nothing they could do

Phone service 14/03/21 We just had the most bizarre and argumentative exchange with the guy answering the phone. After 2 hour delivery wait and receiving the wrong food, we were still patient as it was holiday and called up. But we then had to spend another 5 minutes explaining in detail what our meals looked like to this guy who acted like we were wrong and told us maybe we didn't see the veg coz (get this) it might be really small and maybe we didn't see the sauce, either! It took the chef to set him straight. After all that had happened, we had to deal with that guy. Never again.

This is our local Chinese takeaway and has always been 1st class sorry to say today it was awful. I phoned them because still no delivery 1 hour after making the call. Turned up 15 minutes later. Looked forward to tucking in as starving by now. Food stone cold. Sweet n sour Cantonese chicken inedible so chewy and I have all my teeth couldn't eat it. Prawn crackers I know free but no crisp just soggy. Sorry but will have to go somewhere else next time such a shame.

Our 1st ever order we asked for no mushrooms in curry as have an allergy. And we ended up with mushrooms also all the food was Stone Cold over an hour and a half later we received the fresh stuff we have just gone to place a 2nd order giving them a 2nd chance for them to cancel it on us absolutely disgusting for a new management.will not be coming back and definitely not recommended.

Just had a meal very disappointed, had several times and it was amazing but today two main dishes full of veg hardly no meat in either. BBQ sauce is very thick and very sweet not like other bbq sauce

Having waited for 2 hours for delivery I must say I was more than disappointed! I rang after 1.5 hours and assured it was with driver. It was another 30 mins before it arrived and surprisingly hot given it had "been with a driver" for at least 30 mins. Tasteless. Waste of £35! And did the chicken die of natural causes?

Very disappointed, ordered via just eat & food barely warm. However, the beef curry had more mushrooms in it than beef & the tai crispy beef was burnt or gone off it was awful. First time ordered from here too, what a shame.

Food was nearly an hour late then when it finally arrived it was all freezing cold would NEVER order from there again customer service was shocking aswell!!

Love this chinese but this evening our food wasnt great! Fat, soggy crispy beef and stale chips. The staff informed us that they are new but were very good in replacing and refunding the dishes. Unfortunately the chilli beef is no longer like it used to be. UPDATE: we ended up having to return all the food. After plating up the rice and noodles were so greasy I couldn't eat it. The staff were really good and gave us a full refund.

Food is of a high standard, and usually not greasy. Sometimes chow mein could be a bit salty, but a a great Chinese. Owners are moving end of Feb so watch this space.

Nunca he estado aquí antes y tiene críticas mixtas. La comida estaba caliente y raciones de buen tamaño. Lamentablemente, la tostada de gambas con sésamo era muy grasosa, el pan había absorbido mucha grasa, por lo que solo comí 1 pieza. La calidad del resto de lo bueno era buena, aunque algunos de los platos no estaban cocinados en el estilo al que estoy acostumbrado, y muy poco pato en el pato y la piña. Todo bien sazonado. Volvería otra vez solo necesito encontrar los platos que me gustan.

For the second visit in a couple of months, food was bland, pretty flavourless and a bit greasy. Nowhere near the standard it used to be, have used many times over the years, but will be giving a wide berth for a while. Disappointed.

Looked on Trip-adviser and although this place was one of the bottom in the list, all the reviews were excellent. We had several dishes and they were all delicious. Service was polite and food was on time. We would certainly order from here again

I have been visit Plymouth city for 5 days and have try eating out the best review restaurant in the area. But as a Chinese myself, this takeaway is my favorite dinner I ate in the area. As the taste is more authentic and fresh.

As Chinese take always go it is fine. Decent food at decent prices. Staff friendly and you don't have to wait too long.

Omg the first time I ordered from this place and must say spot on can taste the garlic in my young chow fried rice never tasted it before in any Chinese take away and my wife had beef curry egg fried rice which she said was a lot for 1 adult so you could tho k of doing a child's poition but will be back to this take away only down fall was asked for a menu and wasn't given 1

Terrible customer service. Asked for a delivery which would take literally 5 mins for them to drive to & they "don't deliver to our post code" which is close to Derriford hospital. Due to injury and medication I can't drive myself. I will never ever order for from here even when I can drive despite it being the CLOSEST to me. Disgraceful! Not at all recommended, would give no stars given the choice. Very unhappy.

Wanted a change from our usual takeaway and decided to try here. Food was prepared quickly and was packed into a convenient size box. Portions were generous, we ordered for two, which turned into three but there was plenty of food to go round. We had one duck, sweet and sour prawns and chicken curry and all were delicious. The complementary prawns crackers were a nice addition, crispy not greasy. We will definitely order from here again

After looking for somewhere that was still open in the snow, we were pleasantly surprised to see that derriford chinese was still open as usual!! There was a lovely lady who served us. She was patient and friendly and a outstanding asset to have on your team. The food was delicious and will definitely recommend to others. Thank you!!
