Rooms need some TLC. Tea facility in room. Staff helpful and friendly. Food average. No services because of covid but ways to help in place

I stayed here for about 8moths.the staff was amazing. The management and all staff had a infection friendly manner .approachable. and felt like a family member rather than a customer. Reading alot of reviews on here felt the expectation for some people are abit unfair .I would recommend staying at this hotel 5 star services I wouldn't hesitate stopping here.yes we have trying times with a pandemic. But the staff make you feel like royality rather than a paying customer. Sadly I stayed here due to my mum taking I'll in the derby royal.and later during the early times of the pandemic. I found the staff caring and respectful from the reception to waiters and managers. Good job all round i wouldn't stay anywhere else.and i look forward to my next stay there.theres plenty to do.train station nearby other cultural restaurants and bars and bus service and taxis near by.during lock down the area maybe limited but I'm sure the staff of the Midlands hotel are doing a grand job under stringent circumstances they all deserve a pay increase and a gold star well done and thanks for all you did for me to help me through trying times.jay (American gentleman) ☆☆☆☆☆

I have been in this hotel for 4 weeks as an asylum seekers .Some of the staff were really nice and friendly but most of them very racist . The food was not cooked well🤮and the hygiene was really bad . If we were British citizens there would have been totally different service. The reception doesn't pick up the phone.

Can never get a room at the moment.... must be full? Even during this Covid outbreak, Derby must be the place to visit or something?

Very shoddy place, dated and smells... wouldn’t bother with there, there’s lots of better places to stay... last time I was there the guy in reception was pretending to be the manager and was really rude, seriously guys don’t bother!! I’d recommend the farmhouse in macworth, similar price but WAY better facilities! There’s even a better hotel around the corner cheaper than there too if you want the train station. The only thing that’s decent about here is the name on the front and maybe the entrance.... absolute dive!

Breakfast is good and typical, the look is ageing but cosy... but room comfort is unpredictible, ranging from good with large bed, silence and heating to poor narrow bed noisy and leaky window...

Outdated rooms (there is a way to respect the old style of the building without being outdated as the hairdryer was from the 70s, old, yellow, barely worth it & for some insane reason 3 very yellowed phones - in one room!) No plug sockets next to the bed (which in this day & age is just odd) The staff treat you like an inconvenience The rooms are also incredibly hot!!! I'm a person that enjoys being warm but that was unbearable with windows that barely open and a fan that was ridiculously dusty. I won't stay here again unless I really have to, it's not the best customer experience unfortunately and really hard to believe it's a 4* hotel.

Poor service, poor rooms, shocking bar prices, hotel filthy with uncleaned toilets for over 48 hours in reception area. Bed bugs, food making multiple guests ill, unbelievable amount of issues that wouldn’t all fit into one review box. But hopefully you get the idea. Would not recommend!

In no way should this be a 4* Hotel. My "double room" had a large single bed in it, thankfully I was travelling alone outherwise someone would have had to sleep in the bath! The outer window was dirty, with flaky paint & wouldn't fully close meaning the inner window kept blowing open. The carpet was poorly fitted with stains all over, the bathroom could have done with a good scrub with mould, limescale & missing tile grout. The room had no main light only wall lightening which meant that it was rather dark even with all available lights on (probably to hide the poor decor). On day of checkout even though that wasn't until 11am the maid service was at the door 3 times to check the room was empty! If it wasn't that I was staying in the hotel due to attending an event at it then I wouldn't have stayed there, the photos are nothing representing the rooms. As for dealing with the event itself well customer service could do with some training, if they could mix up something they did & often spectacularly, let's just say after 2 years of it being held there it won't be next year! The breakfast was ok, just don't touch the black pudding if you like your teeth! I think my options of food at the event I got lucky as they were lovely, others I was with were not so lucky, the evening buffet served was not as good. Bar prices were rediculous, £4 for a pint of soft drink poured from a 2L bottle! Parking was chargeable to some but not always & considering hotel size wasn't much avaliable. Its location next to the train station & garden area which was lovely are its saving grace.
