Im not a big drinker and i dont go to many pubs, but this place is well worth a visit if you are in town

Great selection of drinks and very friendly staff.

Excellent pub we had a wonderful evening.

Great welcoming venue if you fancy trying a variation of different drinks. Member of staff who served me was really pleasant and most of all... venue is dog friendly!😍

A wonderful traditional pub 2 minutes walk from the market place. Great range of ales, a variety of rooms including a roof terrace which overlooks the river that's popular in Summer. Decor is rustic with a modern twist. Enjoy. M

Saturday night and about 5 people in there. Not good.

Nice place, but a little too quiet needs some background music, just to liven the place up a bit. Decent service, decent staff, decent prices, just a little quiet for my taste.

A bit quiet but the beer choice was excellent and a great porter was only £4.20 a pint.

Former Derby brewing pub now under new ownership with a much wider selection of beers but no food. Back to historical name, never too busy it's well worth a boozy afternoon & when it's sunny there's a lovely roof top seating area & terrace. Plenty of seating & a well drilled bar team quickly clearing the bar, too. Recommended

Excellent real ale pub, great staff, great atmosphere.

States on their Facebook page (which they've been active on since reopening) that they're open until 11pm on Sundays. We found the place closed on our first & only visit at 8pm. What type of pub closes at 6pm on a Sunday.

Well it has improved with the new decorations but nothing done to the floor so doesn't actually look much different. Alot more high stools put in and less comfortable chairs Good beer selection and a gluten-free ale on tap which my husband was happy about. Butore choice for him in the gluten free beer would be nice 👍

Can't give a rating on food as they have not long opened up again with new owners (I understand) and were not doing food at the point I visited. Very pleasant inside with a great choice of well kept beers reasonably priced. Lady behind the bar did say they were looking to put on 'pub grub' such as pork pies etc soon but were still finding their feet a little. Definitely worth a visit and will be going again.

The selection of beers is ok. I wouldn’t have bothered leaving a review, but I just noticed I was charged almost £7 for a pint of session IPA. Not worth it, go elsewhere.

Looks like an empty place on approach. But inside they have regular tap beers and real ales available. Staff were friendly and polite. Beer was good. Upstairs available to enjoy your drink. Enjoyed my visit.

Quality crisps and it would have been nice to find a, few more ales on by the brewery. Still friendly and nice.

Beer quality, for cask at least is very poor. Prices on high side compared to other nearby pubs. Needs a good clean/refurbishment. Nice building, and has potential,but not really worth visiting until new owners are found.

Very nice atmosphere, discreet rock music. I don't know about the week, it was very nice on Sunday.

I’ve been going in this place since it was the royal standard over 20 years ago. It is nicely fitted out and the staff are friendly but in recent years there just seems to be a lack of atmosphere. I still pop in occasionally when we are on an ale trail around derby but it is one we will sometimes skip. They have a decent selection of beers but seem to be more towards the European style beers and less of the traditional porters, stouts and milds etc.

Only had a beer but as cask ale was quite expensive. Quite quiet.

Popped in for a pint whilst on a walk. Excellent choice of craft ales. Warm, and friendly barman.

Didn't think much to this place at all, not kid friendly, no wheelchair accessible, no car-park

The barman had good knowledge of the beer on the premises and of beers elsewhere, clearly loves his job. The hoppy beers we had were all great too.

We were one of the first in on a Sunday and they have a great selection of ales and other drinks. What more can you ask for? The roof top area was welcoming so we could enjoy the early afternoon sun.

Love this hidden gem, sit upstairs on the terrace and watch the world go by. Great choice of ales

This place is the brewery tap for Derby Brewing Company. The real ale selection wasn't brilliant, but it was good quality and well kept. The pizzas they sell for between £10-12 each are tasty enough, but quite small.

A popular real ale pub with friendly and welcoming staff. A great range of beers including those from the Derby Brewing Company. We also had some of their burgers, which were very tasty and pretty good value. It's also very conveniently located near the city centre

Has an army reunion here and loved it a vast range of top-quality IPA and Craft beer. Lovely place.

Derby brewing company pub so loads of beers and ciders to choose from. Basic but delicious foods are available as well if you get the munchies 😋

Really great beer, and an excellent pizza. Prices were reasonable, staff really friendly, and the upstairs seating area was really comfy.

Food took an hour to come because staff hadn't switched on the PC to accept table app orders', despite the app actually telling us the food was being prepared. Don't bother using it. It's useless. When we questioned when the food would be arriving, no apologies, just " we'll order it now...it's all cooked fresh so takes some time"... An hour, really!? The chicken sandwich arrived on wet bread with limp lettuce and more mayo than chicken. Disgusting. Never again. Most definitely not recommend!

Went out for some real ales. We were in the brewery tap on a Friday night and were told to leave as they were closing and it was only 10pm on a Friday night. The stock levels were really poor. It was like walking into a different tap bar from previous visits. Very disappointing

Great beer, as expected from a tap house, with even better names. The beer brewed by the team was very well made and tasted fantastic. The food was good and well priced, the staff were excellent. I will be back here the next time I am in the area.

Great choice of ales Always kept well . Prices are reasonable too in these times . Food is served aswell . . Music is played and the tap becomes more lively on an evening and weekend

Very disappointing now food standard droped significantly. The ales less choice. The rack ale selection limited to 5 now with no cheese to go with it the 3 occasions ive asked the same excuse supplier not delivered really ? Go to the supermarket and get some!!! Staff now less knowledgeable business seems like there just going through the motions with no real enthusiasm or passion like they use to be very disappointing indeed

Empty,apart from us no atmosphere

Attended the Tap last week for a pre-booked gathering. It was a football awards evening and we decided to rent out the top floor. No issues at all when there, our group were polite and courteous to all staff members and we did not interact with any other customers whom were situated on the lower floor at the main bar. We left about 10pm. One of the lads with us whom likewise works at a local drinking establishment noticed that a member of staff from the Tap had sent a message to the local ‘pub watch’ WhatsApp group. The message basically read that we caused acts of criminal damage, presented as highly inebriated, and ‘rowdy’. The staff member whom sent the message also stated he would ‘take photos’ of our group and put them in the group chat so other pubs in the area would be ‘aware of us’. Unbeknown to the lemon whom sent the message, one of our own lads saw the message given he was part of the same private WhatsApp group. He shared the information with the rest of us and we were utterly perplexed by the allegations made. At no point was our behaviour ‘rowdy’ nor did we engage in ‘laddish’ antics during our night at the Tap. We rented our own floor thus separate from other customers. We acted appropriately in the bar area and at no point became disrespectful to staff. It is disgusting that a staff member thought it appropriate to fabricate malicious allegations about our group and even post it into a WhatsApp group to ‘warn’ other pubs! The fact he was also going to take photos of us without our permission to send to people we didn’t know is also a breach of personal privacy and again a pathetic attempt to discredit us. At no point during the evening was our behaviour challenged by staff or the manager, and we perceived it to be a good evening prior to the malicious message sent by the Tap. Accusing and spreading malicious messages about customers, and threatening to publish photos is highly insulting, egregious, and just simply embarrassing. We will not be returning, and I hope others see this review and are aware of staff at the Tap having the capability of engaging in voyeuristic behaviours, taking photos of their customers without permission and sending them to other pubs for the purpose of highlighting ‘rowdy’ behaviour or for other self satisfying deviant purposes…

Hit and miss depending on the staff on .some staff are rude . And could do with some training .

Great beer selection for me and nice Malbec for my gf, great tap. Also has a roof terrace with a view of the river! Hidden gem.
