Never enough staff on shift, been in several times on my lunch break at work, & seen several other customers leave the queue due to the long wait time. Have also left myself after having stood in the queue for 15minutes (only 1 person infront, no idea why it takes so long to take an order?) Also, unsure who makes the homemade soup but it's not lentil soup.. It's lentil flavoured water. Could be a lovely cafe, if better staffed!

Never seen this place look so poor at the height of lunch time 1 pm on a Monday afternoon we are regular visitors here the shelves were empty the food that was there as in cold meat pre prepared salad looked dry ... I asked if that's all they had or if they had fresh I chose not to eat .. but my family did as we had been travelling I was told no that's all we have .. 6 cakes in the counter that was it and the staffs attitude was just as bad never had an experience like this ever in this place ... Will definitely not be back ever again .. considering it is attached to such a grand hotel and hotel chain that was a big let down

Deli Central is one of the most attractive interiors for a breakfast in central Glasgow. It used to house La Fourchette restaurant in the heyday of the Central Hotel. Nowadays it's less formal but still tasteful and classy looking. I'd breakfasted here a couple of times in recent years and found it very good. Today was a real disappointment. I ordered a full breakfast and a tea, in a mostly empty (as usual for some reason) restaurant. Good value at £6.95,I thought. Cheerless service from the young woman at the till. The tea arrived almost immediately, which was a plus. The food arrived shortly afterwards... The full breakfast was anything but full. Scrambled egg was dry and not very hot; 2 rashers of bacon was fine; 2 link sausages, a large slice of Lorne, a tattie scone. Where were the mushrooms? The black pudding? The tomato? No toast either! And served on a narrow rectangular plate more suited to trimmed sandwiches. How difficult can it be to get a basic full Scottish breakfast right? I'm assuming the food was culled from the breakfast bar in the next room serving the hotel guests... Perhaps if they went to the kitchen for fresher fare they'd find such a thing as tomatoes there.I doubt I'll be back. For the same money I'd rather eat in a greasy spoon with a bit of character, a friendly face and a toaster to their name.

We arrived in town on an early flight from London, and having located our hotel we went exploring the city. Having missed breakfast, we were looking for a quick bite and a drink, as we were walking past the Central Station Deli Central came into view, and we went in. There is a modest menu, but friendly service and a tasty breakfast, and coffee. Enjoyable and better than most station offerings around the country.

Low key lighting and small b&w tiled floor in this little gem of a place. Check out the ceiling; looks like tiles but is unusually tinplate painted. Used to be part of the hotel I believe in bygone days. The TV on all the time for pop music isn't particularly to my taste. The staff members are lovely people, the food isn't dear and you are so handy for your next train it couldn't be better. I am sure many people are totally unaware of its existence as it sits in the exit tunnel from the station to the left as you come from the main concourse platforms. Good for cheap eats and tasty soup. Toasted tuna panini, soup and pot of tea around 6 pounds. Suits from senior citizens (like me!) to groups of young girls out from the office for lunch.Try it! This was a first visit to Glasgow and leaving Central Station came across "Deli Central" adjacent to an exit ramp. Having been on a train for a couple of hours a coffee was certainly needed and the filter coffee at £1.80 in a large cup was excellent value. Just one little niggle - please clear used plates/crockery etc from empty tables.

Came here for quick take away lunch as I work round the corner. I ordered a wrap. She wasnt even concentrating and had to check my order 3 times before she finally got it right. It was a coronation chicken and sweetcorn wrap!! After finally paying she told me to wait at the other side beside the soups. Even though it was lunchtime it wasn't that busy. People were however waiting for soup as it had run out and had to ask 3 times before anything was done. The guy then came out with a large metal tub containing the boiling soup. It was a small space with tables and he barged past me without saying a word and almost spilled it on me which I feel was dangerous. After 10-15 minutes my wrap still hadn't been made. The staff were too busy chatting and messing about. Very bad service as she saw me waiting and just ignored me. I finally saw my wrap being made but she was faffing about so much. Eventually got my wrap handed to me without a word or even a smile. Not going back again after that ridiculous service all just for a small wrap to take away.

I pass this place which is attached to Central Station several times a week: it never seems full and appears clean, unlike Costa, which is filthy, and the other station cafes offering seating, which are always full so I gave it a try ahead of a long train journey, starting in an hour. My mistake. The bill board outside boasted a good breakfast deal of a roll(unspecified filling) and coffee for around £2.50. Inside, there was one woman ahead of me, who messed about explaining her need to have a toodler's bottle heated and asking for detailed analysis of the herbal teas. She grabbed her toddler who was running around screaming, and called another child to the counter and began asking them what they wanted! when I came to place my order, the young woman behind the counter explained the breakfast offer had expired: I asked her when and she said at 11am; I checked my watch and it was three minutes past! I ordered a bacon and egg toastie with black coffee and sat in the area up a few steps from the main cafe. 15 minutes later, I returned to the counter to tell them I was still waiting and before I could finish what I was saying, the older of the two waitresses said "yes, it's coming!" It took another five minutes however, and when she brought it I reminded her of the toastie she said "yes, sorry for the wait." It was almost half an hour before it came, and it was a sandwich, NOT a toastie! It really wasn't that busy, and in the time I was there I saw that everyone had to wait ages for their food and drink to arrive. The food was below average, the service appalling and the layout upstairs a mess: a worker from the kitchen had to manoeuvre his trolley round tables and chairs to get to and from the lift. Such a good location, this place could be a real treat and a refreshing change from the chains, but it's awful and a lost opportunity.

I passed this place next to Central Station on my way to meet a friend for a drink and decided to pop in for a quick bite not expecting very much. I opted for the soup and sandwich deal @ £3.50 - yes £3.50! I had paid £3.95 the day before for a shallow plate of soup and a dry slice of bread in a city centre pub. You help yourself to soup and I filled my bowl to the brim with delicious piping hot lentil and bacon soup as the waitress brought over my sandwich - not the usual stick-to-the-roof-of-your-mouth type bread- but lovely bloomer bread with egg mayonnaise and red onion, lovely! The sandwich was well filled with egg mayo which would give my own a run for its money and red onion{just a little too much onion for my taste} The menu was varied and would cater for all tastes. The staff were efficient, friendly and pleasant too. I will definitely be going back to the Deli Central and cannot wait to have afternoon tea{2 scones, butter, jam, clotted cream and tea/coffee - a bargain £4.95.

Been going here from Breakfast some mornings for almost the last 2 years. In the last few months it has gone seriously downhill. There used to be a guy in there who seemed to run the whole show by himself and he was brilliant at it. Very friendly and efficient. Now there is 3 working in there, spending most the time shouting at each other (mainly the tall woman doing the shouting) and the whole thing is disorganized chaos. Not only shouting at each other but getting ratty with customers too. I saw the tall woman getting arsey with an elderly couple who were questioning where their meal was after waiting so long.Waited 15 minutes for a morning roll and coffee. Got my coffee after 5 minutes, it was cold by the time I got to work. A guy with a large order who was behind me in the queue was served before me. So I had to wait for his 7 or so rolls and drinks to be serviced before they finally realised they hadn't done mine yet.Saves your money, and your time, and go elsewhere. I suggest Crumbs across the road.

Had vouchers for cream tea and on walking into the place, it was like a cheap cafè. They staff were not happy that we had taken a shot of our vouchers as opposed to printing them out; we then had to email them in to an email address.Eventually we were seated at the back of the bar, where 7 (yes 7) members of staff walked past us without acknowledging we were there. We had to ask them to bring our cream tea, which then took 40 minutes. We had to ask if we could see a sandwich menu, again the service was terrible. We place a drinks round and got cocktails, subsequently followed by another round. This round took 50 minutes, yes 50 minutes to arrive. I approached, what I thought was a Manager who knew nothing about our drinks, as she was "busy". I was so disappointed first of all that my two friends couldn't join my sister and I for the cream tea but soon realised they were the lucky ones. Our table was booked for 3.15 with a limit of 1hr 45mins. At 4 o'clock a woman said to her staff it was a few times it is 4 o'clock and at this point all the doors were locked and billboards were clattered about and my sister and I felt we were intruding. It was so off putting that 10mins later my sister and I felt no option but to leave. What was to be a nice catch up turned sour in 45 mins. So disgusted with the attitude of the staff apart from dark haired young gentleman who was extremely pleasant. Won't be back and won't recommend it to family or friends. Total waste of my time and money. Don't allow reservations as late as 3.15 if staff can't be bothered and just want people to move on quickly.

Well, as a train traveller, one hates to get ripped off by the many cafes that are attached to railway stations. As I had 30 minutes to kill before my train departed at 8.20am, I was seduced by a big advertisement board that offered a great deal of a filled breakfast roll with a cup of tea or coffee for £2 at Deli Central Station Glasgow. Wow, what a great bargain I thought. I entered the premises and thought that it looked the part. Beautiful interior, state of the art design, grand display of tempting food and especially not busy. I asked about the breakfast deal and the highly pleasant assistant reeled off the breakfast roll fillings - bacon, scrambled egg, sausage -square or link etc. I duly ordered a roll with link sausage and went to the loo to tidy my hair and make-up. By the way, in Scotland, a link sausage is what other nations such as England, call a normal sausage- in Scotland we have them as well as square sausages that are visually comparable to beefburgers but are square rather than round. The toilet is unisex but as it is a locked singular cubicle and spotlessly clean it posed no problems. However, the dimmed lights prevent the user from seeing anything in the mirror except a ghostly vision. Therefore the hair fixing and the lippy top-up were a no-no. When I returned to the counter to receive and pay for my order of regular black coffee with cold milk and roll with link sausage I was given a bill of £2.50. Prices for certain fillings were not described in this empty cafe/restaurant and there was no small print on the advertisement board. However, grateful for the prompt service from the very nice assistant and the joyful pick of a table at this stunning eatery, I did not complain. The worst was yet to come. The bread roll was stale, by my reckoning 3 days old. The sausage was ok but I think the thin spread underneath was either margarine or some spread that was not butter. The coffee was lukewarm so the cold milk made it disgusting to drink. A few sips of the awful beverage and a finger pick of the sausages and then I was off. How dare the owners of this fancy place rip off travellers/commuters by the temptation of a spectacular breakfast bargain when the product is so unfit for human consumption and the price does not match the tempting advertisement which is hard to miss when one enters Central Station. I hope the owners/management are reading my report as I want to ask them 'How do you get away with it? While the more expensive burger places, Central Station eateries/cafes and food/drink kiosks buzz at this time in the morning it is little wonder that your place is empty despite your fantastic, hard to avoid offer. You should be ashamed of yourselves. For would be travellers/commuters my best advice is go to Greggs, opposite the station, as you can carry your wholesome, hot, reasonably priced take-away breakfast to the station where you will always get a seat. Be warned!

A great find. Soup and a sandwich/baguette/toastie/panini a really good deal and pots of tea that are a really good size. There are loads of good places to eat in the centre of Glasgow but really recommend a visit.

As a retired couple who shop in the city centre twice a week ,we always go toMarks and Spencer for a bite to eat. This week my wife decided to try somewhere different and she led me into the Deli Central. My first thoughts were that this is going to be very expensive especially being joined onto the Central Hotel. I had a nice cheese toastie {£2] and a large bowl of soup which you help yourself with, was also £2. My pot of tea was also very good which had a twinnings tea bag in it.{ £1.85p} A nice spacious and comfortable place which we shall certainly be going back to, next time we are in town.

I went here today for the first time. I paid over £4 for a panini. I never received what I ordered, having advised the staff member I would just accept the incorrect order as I was in a rush, she then took it off the plate and handed itb to me in a takeaway packet without offering me a refund for even the sit in price, instead I was handed a biscuit that I didn't even want. I left the biscuit on the counter advising I WAS not impressed, no attempt was made to resolve the mistake to satisfy my requirements!

We were met by cheery staff and quickly made our order. The quality quantity of this late afternoon lunch accompanied with a cold Beer was first class and worth every penny.Having read a few of other travellers reports, can not see what or where the problem is and will most definitely return again.I have no hesitation in recommending Deli Central for lunch to anyone who visits Glasgow or travels through Central Station

I work near the station and have walked by this place on many an occasion and never knew it was there. i was told by my colleague to give it a go so i did, and boy im glad i did! the interior is fantastic and very modern yet retaining the original features of days gone by. the morning deal is great. best scrambled egg iv ever had! the coffee isnt the best but for what you pay, it is more than suffice.(£2 including the roll). the girls are always smiling and lesley and keyleigh always provide a chat. the lunch prices are very reasonable and the tuna salads are to die for, work of art.Recommend this place to everyone. if only it was better advertised as it is a hidden gem.visited friday am Dec 2013

This deli is right on the door step of Central Station. so, On a recent long train journey, we decided to get some take away lunches from here. Was freshly made up for us, was a great price (considering in middle of Glasgow town centre), and tasted delicious. The lady who served us was really helpful and chatty. Would recommend.

Having glanced through the side door at Deli Central for a couple of years now when leaving Central station via the exit to Hope Street, accompanied today by my two ladies and looking for lunch led to the breakthrough decision to give it a try. This was a good move. The menu has a decent variety of light meals principally featuring sandwiches and paninis, and there is a "Specials" board; all food is very reasonably priced, e.g. soup (two on offer today were potato and watercress - an enjoyable discovery for your reviewer - and lentil and bacon, enjoyed by my wife and our daughter) and sandwich/panini for £4.95. There is a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere here, and attractive décor. The door direct from Hope Street can catch the wind, and is inclined to defy attempts by the staff to keep it closed without denying access/egress though! Currently, Deli Central is open until 16.00 hours; it is licensed, with a limited range of beers and wine; red and white examples of the latter were enjoyed by our party..The surroundings are attractive, and the Staff friendly and helpful, obviously taking pride in their work and workplace. We would be happy to return.

Tried this today for quick breakfast and underwhelmed. Empty, no customers at height of rush hour may have been a good clue. Croissants served were at least a day old and that's being wildly optimistic, really disappointing and could be much, much better. Great location, and fabulous space is entirely wasted...what's with the wobbly wobbly tables... come on please pull your socks up, this is so dismal...serving stale food in this day and age is not on... !!! : (

Breakfast roll and tea or coffee for £2. Only other place you'll get that is Greggs and you can rarely sit in there! They do a great lunch deal too, soup and sari for £3. Fresh rolls, homemade soups. sandwiches made on site and pre packed so really quick option if you are in a hurry. Right next to Central station so handy meeting place for locals and visitors alike. Great spot for a quick snack.

I eat here maybe 3/4 times a week and i am Never disappointed. Great prices and friendly staff( although sometimes I feel a little short Staffed but the girls keep smiling!) due to lack of staff sometimes you need to sit at a dirty table but it gets sorted before your food comes. Always great food and freshly prepared. Recommend it to all!

Located in the Grand Central Hotel with access from Hope Street or the hotel this cafe is an unusual mix of modern meets Victorian. The interior is part of the historic restored hotel and has a high ceiling, large windows and an element of grandeur in contrast to brightly differing coloured plastic chairs and tables. The most comfortable tables have bench style seats on the perimeter of the room but unless you’re only having a quick coffee I would avoid those with the high stools. It’s aimed at those looking for a light snack - sandwiches, paninis, salads & soups, or a coffee and cake. It’s not particularly cheap but then you are paying for the surroundings - at least you won’t get approached by the pigeons as so often happens in the railway station concourse! I’ve popped in for a quick lunch a number of times and enjoyed their offerings. It also caters for takeaway and offers breakfast items - e.g. filled rolls.

i have been here several times with my friends, as we meet up every week for lunch. every time has been great, the staff are fantastic, very friendly and smiley, you get the impression that they value their customers and nothing is too much bother for them. on my last visit i had their soup and sandwich deal which is a bargain at only £3.00, and my friends got different salads. well, i wish i had chosen one because they looked amazing, almost a piece of art. their coffee is also very good, they do a mean latte! i would recommend deli central to anyone.
