Deep Caribbean Experience in Birmingham

We went to celebrate out 5th year wedding anniversary with family and friends. The food, dessert and service was good was nice of the chef to introduce herself. The only negative was a discrepancy with overall price of payment as we seemed to be overcharged. I tried contacting the restaurant to enquire about this I was told the person who dealt with the payment would be in touch but I haven't heard anything despite me chasing via message afew times. Other than that i would recommend this place. Jackie & Robert

Fantastic. Pauline and Derek were lovely, friendly and welcoming. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and the food was fantastic, tasty and fresh. Would definitely recommend and look forward to going again the next time we are in Birmingham, she even offered to travel to cook for parties, great idea.

We were going to a concert and they made sure they welcomed us with open arms despite it being a late booking. Even though they couldn't accommodate us with the eat as much as you like buffet because of the time we arrived, they brought out every dish available in the buffet to our table which was plenty for us 2 eat. Amazing service, authentic Caribbean food and great location for going to O2 academy in Birmingham.

Went in 1 hour after opening and most dishes advertised weren't available 😳, I wanted a buffet box takeaway they explained they didn't have any boxes available but were happy to accommodate a suitable alternative so I was happy with that. I placed my order and as I asked for wings I was told they don't have any, they didn't have any saltfish fritters, no escovitch fish, so I said okay can I order oxtail, jerk chicken, Mac n cheese & plantain. The guy took my order away and came back and said the oxtail is sold out, I said you have just opened but have nothing available as advertised. This is bad business etiquette and not a good representation of a black food establishment. I could understand if I'd gone in, within an hour of closing time different story but 1 hour of opening nothing on the menu, I was embarrassed for them. I cancelled my order, not only did they not get my custom but they have lost a customer. Suggest if you have a menu, unless it's a seasonal item or end of day have what's advertised available for purchase and consumption.

Left work hungry , called in booked a takeaway mutton and stewed chicken. The food was lovely and they didn't scrimp on meat or gravy

We had a table buffet and wow, it was delicious. Also plentiful with even more on offer. The cocktails were lovely too. A real birthday celebration.

The Layout could improve. Buffer area needs to organise so as the staff don’t have to move between the customer. Pricing needs to be more transparent

I was at my friends 60th birthday celebrations on 31st March 2023. The staff were so welcoming, pleasant and polite. The food was absolutely beautiful and tasty. The ambience was amazing. I have told my family and friends about it, as it is really worth a visit. The restaurant isn’t big, but it’s intimate and just right. The plates were cleared as soon as they were empty. The owners speak and welcome you as if they have known you for years and have made this place very relaxing with a friendly vibe. 10/10 for friendliness, atmosphere, great food and fantastic service. I will certainly visit again and again.

What an experience! First class food from a first class chef! We visited as a family of four from Derby and we were not disappointed at all. From the moment that we walked in, we were made to feel at home. There was a great atmosphere, a no hassle buffet with a great selection of tasty caribbean dishes. Nothing was too much for the hospitable, friendly staff, Paulette the chef was present in the restaurant to have a little chat and greet the guests. We will definitely be paying this little gem another visit in the not too distant future. Thanks to one and all for making our meal experience So lovely 😊

We visited this place on Sunday ( Mother’s Day)… I’m a easy going laid back Caribbean man this restaurant was poor really poor quality service and the food was the worst I’ve tasted…sort this out as your an embarrassment to Caribbean food

This was our first experience of Jamaican food. It was brilliant!! I had Jerk Chicken and rice and beans. This was so good and the lovely rum cocktail. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Definitely to be highly recommended.

We would highly recommend The Deep Experience we have visited on several occasions for family birthdays and throughly enjoyed the food, atmosphere and friendly amazing staff. We also recently used The Deep Experience to cater for our wedding day, they provided an excellent professional service of canapés, 3 course silver service meal followed by a buffet evening meal. All our guests were extremely impressed with their meals. Both taste & presentation was on point 👌🏽🙌🏽 A huge, huge thank you to Pauline & her team. And an special mention that Pauline was a great support to us throughout, highly professional and who truly delivered on the day.

Food was gorgeous and traditional, amazing vegetarian/vegan options, everyone who worked here was lovely! Even brought out complimentary cake with a candle and played a great reggae birthday song when they found out it was my sisters birthday! Will definitely be going back!

Absolutely 💯. Family gathering for special 35th birthdays of my niece and nephew. Graduation of my niece Yolanda 2:1 Degree and Wedding Anniversary celebrations. Woooii woop woop. Buffet meal Great. Was chatting so much only went up once. Staff all professional and ensured all of our needs met. Will definately visit again soon for my birthday in December if you are open on 28th see you then. If you don't like your husband/wife, this is the perfect place to take them. There were so many things wrong with this place. 1 - our drinks took way to long to come, 30 mins after starting our meals. 2 - napkins came 45 mins after our first bite. (We used our own tissues) 3 - customer service was poor. 4 - we were being charged 50p per takeaway containers. (How stingy, after spending over £200) 5 - we were being told to get ready to leave due to restaurant closing however, we already requested the bill.. twice! 6 - we lost our deposit as two people did not turn up and it did not go towards the final bill. 7 - they brought our cake perfectly but forgot a cake cutting knife and then after receiving it 15 minutes later, it got taken away to be used at another table. Improvements: Customer service training for all staff members, Training on not being so stingy Need more staff Not to roll eyes when asking for a picture Buy more than one cake cutting knife (that is not loose from the handle) Apart from that, the food was good. Everything else.. a crap experience.

The staff are so friendly 😊 special shout out to the young man (shown in my pic) who welcomed us all, made all our drinks, sang happy birthday to our grandma! You sir are fantastic. Thank you for a lovely meal and experience!

We had the best time here last night! We wanted to book jamaica for moms 50th but due to covid it wasn't possible. I want to thank the staff here for being so lovely and meeting our requirements to give my mom a great birthday. The food was perfectly authentic, the cocktails were lovely, the staff were so friendly and fun. I would highly recommend going here and would deffinatley like to visit again! Thankyou guys! Tasty and authentic Jamaican food and drinks. Warm and friendly hospitality. A variety of meal choices including a wide selection for vegans and vegetarians. My husband is Jamaican and I am of Jamaican parentage (so we eat Jamaican food everyday) but there were dishes on the menu that we had not tried before. So it was lovely to try be able to eat something new at a Jamaican restaurant.

Ate here with another couple. Excellent buffet and good value at £20 per person. Also ordered ackee and saltfish and plantain from the a la carte. Extremely helpful and friendly staff. Curried goat and jerk chicken were especially good.

We fancied something different and had heard good reports about this place. We were not disappointed. The curried goat was lovely. Quality fresh ingredients. Presentation could be better. Efficient and friendly service.

My son took me to this restaurant for my birthday in November and it was a total surprise. He is very good at keeping things under wraps so, I had no idea where I was going, till I got there. It was a very quiet night but very special. The food was to die for. I have to say that it was the best Caribbean food that I have ate out, in a restaurant. We had the Ackee on a doughnut type ring for starters and then Ox Tail which fell off the bones;absolutely delicious. Another special little touch was added by the staff for me. The music playing stopped, and was replaced with ‘Happy Birthday To You’ by Stevie Wonder and a lady came from the kitchen with a small piece of cake with a candle in it. My son and I were surprised and to be honest it just shows that you don’t need to have the biggest of anything to make your day special. I would recommend this restaurant anytime. Thank you to the staff for making my evening special and my son of course, for taking me there.

Wouldn't set foot in the place again. It's not a resturant it's a joke. Food didn't seem bad but i didnt eat as the chicken was bones and sauce. No breast at all and for a 17 pound buffet you expect ALOT more. From luke warm over priced beers with no ice.. smaller glasses then labled on the cocktail menu and overcharging on the bill I can see these guys seem to be running a circus! There is tons more I could go into but i will keep brief. It's a waste of time effort and money if you're looking for a nice night out.

Party of six Saturday 16th Feb. All I can say is the Food is AMAZING, the service is FANTASTIC. Real Authentic Jamaican Food cooked and served with Love. From the minute You walk in until the minute You leave you're made to feel welcome. Cocktails are great but should be served in a tall glass but saying that can't fault it.

From the time you walk in the attentive staff make you feel welcome. The food is authentic carribean.... My favourite was the curry goat. Great selection of dishes, desserts and drinks. We will definitely be back again soon.

i went with a party of 16 , there was a welcome atmosphere as soon as we stepped in the door,all the staff were very friendly and helpful Food was delicious and plenty of it and plenty of variety. there are a variety of cocktails which are strong, so i advise if driving dont have one, but a shame to miss out, reggae music playing in the background added to the jamaican experience, a good night was had by all will definitely go again xxxx

About 40 of us visited on Saturday evening. We had the £15.99 buffet . The restaurant was clean , pretty with all the lights and the food was very nice. I would recommend the mutton curry . That was delicious. The service was excellent. A waiter introduced himself and suggested we go to the food section a table at a time , which was a good idea! The food was freshly cooked. The music was a bit loud but no one was complaining. Would recommend. There is street parking right outside but you would have to get there early .

Myself and a few friends went here for her birthday. Upon arrival the restaurant was empty, the benefit of that was the wait for food wasn't long.

Just visited this restaurant with family for birthday celebrations. 12 of us in total, the food was fresh and hot. Lots of choice, and the sevi was on point. All in all a great experience for all of us. Curry Goat was beautiful. Thanks Chef

The customer service was on point, We tried to book a table via phoning and they were fully booked so as we were walking past the restuarant we decided to pop in and luckily we got a table. The buffet food was so nice and not forgetting the cocktails. We would always recommend and can't wait be back.

8 of us attended yesterday for the buffet, at first glance i did not think the selection would be wide due to the size of the serving area, I was wrong there was a good variety and Miss Pauline out did herself with the food, about 30mins into service she came up from the kitchen and introduced herself and asked if everything was ok. Mr T our waiter was amazing, polite and very attentive nothing was too much and he even joined in singing happy birthday. Beware of the lovely cocktails! they are tasty and pack a punch with the generous measurements. I had a great time, nice music, food and staff. I will return again.

My husband and I attended this restaurant one Sunday afternoon. We had some expectations but not too high because we had no personal recommendations on this place. Anyway we got that at the time of our booking and we had to wait 45 mins for the food to be ready. As it was sunday it was buffet style only. Not taking too much notice at the delay there was a wonderful young man who was so attentive, so polite and welcoming. He really did put the effort in to make-sure we were comfortable and taken care off. I wish i had gotten his name because he was awesome. So we went through the meal... baring in mind we could start till 45 mins after we got there so 3.15pm we were talking ordering quite expensive drinks from the bar and my husband was pacing and deciding if he wanted anything else. Anyway 4.20 the owner came owner with the bill and said if we could settle up now as he “kinda needed the table back”. That one action unravelled all the hard work that the young man had put in making us feel comfortable! The restaurant had basically overbooked because some people came in and had a 10 booking but there was only a 4 table so they were complaining that the table was not ready.... even if that was the case there are so many other more polite ways to get your table back plus we were in there nearly an hour waiting for food to be brought out so actually had 1hr and 5 mins of service. We travelled over 60 miles to be there that day but would not be making that mistake again. Food was ok/average but all brought down by the manager.

I was away with work and happened to stumble across this restaurant and I’m so so glad I went along. Traditional Jamaican food served with a smile and chilled music. The staff would honestly do anything for you and more. A table for 1 can often be a lonely meal but I honestly felt so welcome. If you love Jamaican/Caribbean food and the traditional vibe make sure you add this place to your ‘to visit’ list.

I have visited Deep Caribbean Experience restaurant a few times before. Its a delicate find, almost missable on Bristol Road. We visited as a party of ten, customer service is exceptional we were all individually greeted and made to feel welcome. The buffet was warm and seasoned to perfection with a choice of Curry Goat, Stew Chicken, Fried Fish and Jerk Chicken also a vegan option for our guest. Nice music. My dads favourite spot.

Yesterday we celebrated my mom’s 70th birthday there. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. Tarik did a great job and addressed the birthday people by name. He also made a special effort to get everyone singing happy birthday. He gave all tables special attention. Derek was also very helpful when organising it and let me speak to the chef as one of our party had special food requirements. We were stuck in traffic so arrived a little, I didn’t know that bookings only had a 2 hr slot but Derek kindly extended the time for our meal. We had the Sunday buffet; the food was delicious and the atmosphere great!

What a fantastic Sunday afternoon. As a family of four everyone enjoyed the great food and atmosphere which was all down to the staff and Derek the DJ. Carol Thompson tunes and going back to our youth "sitting in the park". Great place great food will definitely be back. The Evans family

Wow if I could give our experience a rating it would have to be 10/10.

I never write reviews but I had to write one for this restaurant. I reached out to one of the owners about catering my wedding in October, at first it seemed fine. Than after 13 days of going over menu options and talking on the phone I received an e mail that they were unable to provide service on this date. Completely wasted my time.

My husband and I were walking back to the car after seeing a show. We had never been to this restaurant before and we thought we would try it. Food was excellent and so was the service. We will be returning.

Unfortunately the night we visited there was a set buffet menu which wasn’t advertised, so the choice of food offered was very limited, especially for the vegetarian eating (luckily the chickpea dish was tasty). However the experience was made entertaining by the friendly staff, especially the guy who for some reason decided on calling one of us Terry and chatted away like we were regulars and we would probably actually return if there was a full menu to choose from.

2nd time at Deep and once again great food and service. The only downside was because a large party was due in the buffet was replenished so had to just have what was left which spoilt it a bit. Staff were as always friendly and amazing and the food was gorgeous

Me and my partner arrived on Saturday evening and was astounded by how amazing the customer service was . The food buffet was delicious and was topped up regularly . Our waitress Harry was just wonderful and very polite . I have never seen such good customer service. Thanks for doing such an outstanding job to make the stay so pleasurable.

Staff attentive and friendly, Quick service. Good size plates, not too small like some other buffets uses. Buffet food not quite hot enough. A little chilly in restaurant. Will attend again. Very nice food.

We popped in while attending a two day music festival at the O2 and we were greeted with the most amazing welcome. Every staff member popped over to say Hi and have a chat, my vegetarian wife was taken to the buffet by the chef and told about each dish.

Teníamos entradas y platos principales. La comida era estupenda. La cabra al curry y jerk chicken eran increíbles y sabor auténtico. El servicio también era bueno. Muy amable y acogedor. No puedo esperar a volver.

Had a delicious Curry Goat with rice and peas and plantain. And enjoyed the background music and the overal ambiance. Will definitely repeat on my next visit to Birmingham!

Realmente no podía hacer lo suficiente. Y, bastante importante, la comida es deliciosa! Me fui con un muy completo del vientre, porque no quería perderse nada. Los cócteles con y sin alcohol son geniales también. Todo a un precio estupendo. Realmente no me puedo quejar del lugar. Gracias chicos. :-)

Best Jamaican food I’ve had in Birmingham for a long time! The staff were amazing and went above and beyond to accommodate a late booking for my Dads birthday. If you’ve never been here go. We will definitely be back. Thanks again for a great experience

Derek greeted us. what a lovely man, really great host. both had the curry goat with pumpkin, rice n peas, steamed veg. all cooked to perfection. seriously the best I've eaten. had coconut and mango cheesecake for dessert which was divine! so light and delicious.

Visité este lugar con amigos después de que dije me apetecía una comida caribeña. Era temprano en el día cuando llegamos allí, así que comprensiblemente no había muchas personas. Inesperadamente fue un 'todo lo que pueda comer" - alrededor de £16 y la comida era simplemente estar configurada cuando llegamos. Así que todo era precioso y fresco. The family and I had a great time at the Deep experience every member of staff were friendly and attentive.The food was delicious and they had good options for my family who are vegetarian and vegan we did inform them before hand and they were accommodating.would definitely go again!!!

There was four of us, and the staff could not have been more helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them.The food was buffet style, and there was plenty to choose from, and for £15.95 per person, really good value. You could choose from curried goat, barbecued chicken, fried chicken, mahi mahi, dumplings, rice and peas and many more dishes. You could go back as many times as you liked.

Thought I'd try this place as was in Birmingham for the weekend and my partner loves Caribbean food. We checked out the menu prior to going and arrived around 9pm. When we arrived the guy was very keen to get us to sit at a table that wasn't set up. Bit odd but we thought he was just being friendly. When we got our drinks we were told it was only buffet food and there wasn't a menu to choose from. Disappointed we agreed and was told the staff would just prepare it for us. When we got to the buffet it was partially empty and what was left was the stuff at the bottom. We sat down to eat the miniscule amount and it was awful. My partner complained and was told it was due to the time we arrived! Why advertise you're open until late then?! The guy offered to cook fresh food for my partner but we decided to cut our losses and go. What was being offered was not worth the £15.99 charge! Then to add yet more insult the guy charged us for my plate of food that is had one mouthful of!!! Wont be returning and definitely won't be recommending!

We came here last night and we're so glad we did, the whole experience was amazing from start to finish. We were made so welcome, the food was amazing and the music and atmosphere perfect. It was an absolute pleasure to dine there and the next time I'm in Birmingham it will be at the top of my list of restaurants to visit. The fish, goat curry, salt fish and jerk chicken were the best I've tasted. My tastebuds are drooling just thinking of it.Please go, you won't regret it .

We were on our way to see The Script but needed something to eat and came across the Deep Caribbean Experience by accident and what a pleasant surprise. We were made to feel very welcome by Derek and the chef also came to talk to us. We were told that we would have to wait for half an hour but they would do us some snacks while we were waiting. We had deep fried plantain - gorgeous and it was explained to us how they were cooked. I had salmon as my main - it was a very generous portion and was delicious. My sister had stuffed chicken breast and she really enjoyed it. I was very pleasantly surprised with the food and service - i would definitely go there again

I visited this restaurant for the first time a couple of weeks ago with my family and we was immediately greeted by the owner as soon as we walked in, how often does that happen. The decor was astonishing.There was a great deal of choice on the menu. The food was well cooked and of high quality. Absolutely delicious and such a wonderful and relaxing atmosphere with reggae music videos being played while we ate. I would 100% recommend the spicy oxtail and butter beans with fried dumpling on the side (which I had) whilst my family members were also pleasantly surprised by the authentic taste of their food which consisted of curry goat, steamed red bream and the rundown salmon which all were to die for not forgetting the Caribbean cocktails 2 wash it all down with. Totally delightful it was. I highly recommend this restaurant and it's definitely worth a visit.

Its the best Caribbean food outlet in Birmingham and the staff are lovely. Been several times mainly for special occasions and every time was never let down. the food is amazing

Wow! Amazing from the second we walked through the door! Greeted with a handshake from all the staff and chatted as if we were already friends.. Saying that they were professional throughout The food was Buffett style, I tried most of it and it was all 100% The curried Goat was melt in the mouth! I did not want to leave! The atmosphere was wonderful

We visited early Saturday evening before the Flaming Lips gig over the road at the Academy. We were greeted with the warmest welcome I think we've ever had. Genuinely lovely people and a nice bright interior with good music.The chef talked us through the dishes on the buffet. There was a selection of salt fish patties, dumplings, coleslaw, rice and peas, jerk chicken, goat curry, brown stewed chicken, fish, vegan curry, and other dishes. Everything was tasty, although I personally wouldn't have minded a bit more spicy heat, but I know that's not to everyone's taste. We also enjoyed a few of Dericks wicked rum cocktails. If we hadn't have been off to a gig we certainly could have done more justice to the buffet and squeezed in a dessert too, but we'll save that for next time. Definitely worth a visit and very convenient if you're going to the Academy.

Curry goat a bit bland but nice.I like it spicy.Overall sumptuous and scrumptious. The drinks are priced as you would expect for a major city centre.Cocktails are pretty expensive.Dessert prices are pretty reasonably priced.They look good and very popular.The staff are nice and polite.
