Deck Tea Gardens at Carlton Hotel in Isle of Wight

Spot of lunch on lovely sunny day. Sat in the beautiful garden overlooking the sea. Tranquil setting with well maintained garden furniture. Delicious local crab salad and baguettes. Service was prompt and friendly. The location is a stones throw from the cliff lift at the top and away from road noise . Well worth a visit and now we know where it is, when we visit Shanklin we will be back.

On a warm, sunny, Sunday afternoon, we went for 'Fathers Day' lunch. A cool beer and a bacon baguette what more could you ask for. Fabulous sea views - - you've got it. Excellent, friendy service - - you've got it. The rest of the party had fabulous meals as well

We visited the Deck Tea Garden whilst on holiday in the Isle of Wight. The setting is quiet with lovely view across a well manicured garden to the North Sea. The staff made us welcome and the crab sandwich was well prepared and tasty. We most certainly would recommend the Deck Tea Garden to family members and/or friends.

A hidden gem only came across this place last year and now we pop in every time on the island staff excellent food and drink very reasonable and the views our stunning , if in Shanklin you must try this place you won’t be disappointed

Stumbled on this tea garden trying to escape the busy sea front- what a find. Beautiful gardens overlooking the sea with tables nicely spaced. Had a ploughman's lunch which was delicious, friendly, efficient staff helped make the experience even better. Would definitely visit again and recommend.

Visted today after walking past at beginning of holiday and saying how lovely it looked. So glad we went back, lovely welcome, very friendly and great service. Ordered the seafood platter, it was amazing and great value for money. Best meal ive had since being in IOW. If your passing, stop and go in, you wont be disappointed. Aleady decided if I come back to IOW we will try and book into hotel Carlton attached to this tea room.

Lovely location for a meal overlooking the sea. Nice big garden and lots of space. Very impressed with the choice on the menu and price very reasonable. Would recommend if you are in Shanklin!

We were staying next door but went here for somewhere to eat and drink, they very friendly and the food was very good and the drinks reasonably priced, would recommend to stay here, only bed and breakfast but from what we saw very good, book early.

We had lunch in the beautiful gardens, the food was to die for so fresh and the drinks served ice cold, the perfect place for lunch and a drink over looking the views of Shanklin, highly recommend the sea food platter, service was brilliant thanks for everything we will be back

We were looking for somewhere to have lunch whilst in Shanklin and found the Deck Tea Gardens on the coastal path. The menu and offerings were just what we wanted with plenty of choices. Our lunches were really good and well presented. The owners and staff were all very friendly and attentive and the garden was a great place to sit and enjoy the food and drinks. Would definitely recommend and will go back when we are in Shanklin again and looking for a place to have lunch.

This is one of our favorite places to come for lunch. The gardens are lovely and it is a real treat t sit in the sun and look over Shanklin Bay. The food is delicious, really fresh and tasty. I particularly recommend the Stilton Plowmans. The staff are really friendly and helpful. I'd like to have lunch and spend the whole afternoon there!

Always good to find a welcoming cafe when taking a stroll along the coast. The menu is extensive and we received a friendly welcome and quick service. What a pity we only found this place towards the end of our holiday!

Although we have been regular visitors to Shanklin for over 20 years we only recently discovered this great location. The views from the garden deck look out over the bay and the gardens are beautifully maintained. Well worth a visit for lunch, Cofee tea etc....

Mi esposa y yo nos alojamos en este hotel que es un b&b;, pero comimos cada mediodía/tarde. El menú tiene una gran selección de sándwiches, baguettes, ensaladas, etc. todo tan fresco y hábilmente presentado y aunque no nos gusta el pescado que vimos la mariscada y parecía fantástico.

De hecho, nos alojamos aquí por 5 noches en agosto, ya que es un hotel, así como un jardín público de té (muy recomendado por cierto, favor de ver mi comentario aparte).

Había sido un paseo, me apetecía una taza de té. Este parecía ideal. Tuvimos que encontrar un miembro del personal para tomar nuestra orden. Sólo una taza de té para dos personas. Encontrar una mesa en el jardín, té llegó. Recién hecho, suficiente para 2 tazas cada una. Caliente y una buena resistencia. El billete para una corta parada en un paseo por la tarde. Puede considerar alojarse en el hotel en otra visita a otras palabras.

We recently stayed in Shanklin and went for drinks at this hotel. The owners were extremely friendly and the views were spectacular. We had a sandwich for lunch and it was very well presented and very tasty. We went again the day after and asked them to prepare us a packup for on our way home the next day. We asked about the price to stay and was amazed that their prices also included the ferry. If we go to IOW again we will certainly stay here and would recommend this hotel to anyone.

My wife and family and friends have been coming to the carlton for many years.Bob and Anne are so friendly to us all when we stay with them.they treat the grandchildren so good.the food is exelent. Hotel to relax maximum time with friendly hoteliers and a charm of this hotel.Soft beds, very roomy and a quiet surroundings.So glad I found the right hotel.

This is the perfect spot for afternoon tea or drinks. The decking area overlooks immaculate gardens and the view overlooking the sea is beautiful. We stay at the hotel every year and this is the perfect spot to make you feel relaxed and on holiday....

Called for lunch here as I had seen good reviews on Tripadvisor. We weren't disappointed. The crab sandwich I had was really tasty.The gardens were well tended and the service was good. Very friendly too.

Went for lunch here, and the owners were lovely people, the food excellent and the gardens beautiful. Only regret is we didn't have time for another visit, but hope to be back soon

Great places to eat including The Black Cat, Buddle In and Pendletons which really was superb.So easy to get about on the island as well with a really good bus service if you don't want to drive.

While staying at the Carlton Hotel we ate at the Deck Tea Garden on several occasions the menu offers a wide range of hot and cold food also a well stocked bar if you want to treat yourself go for the seafood platter or the cream tea both are highly recommended

Lovely ambience, but a little bit more pricey, but worth it. Tasty food and willing to change things around from the menu, very lovely staff.

Tried the Deck tea gardens because of a recommendation from another guest in the hotel we were staying in, and we were not disappointed as the food was superb and there is plenty of it.Nothing is too much trouble for the owners and staff and they even used to bring out a cushion for my 88 year old mother in law to make her more comfortable in her seat.We had lunch at the Deck on most days while we were on holiday and even took some other guests there from our hotel who also enjoyed the food and the beautiful views. We would love to stay here but the Carlton hotel is only B&B.We will be coming back for lunches next year!

Passed by this hotel every morning for a walk into Shanklin and noticed a special offer for a cream tea for 2. What a beautiful secluded little hideaway. We visited the deck tea gardens today which is situated just a short stroll from where we live in Shanklin. The owners were very attentative and couldn't do enough for you. The sea food platter was probably the best that we have had on the Island (and we have had a few), all washed down with several jugs of Strawberry Pimms. Good food, good drinks and to cap it off a beautiful view across Sandown bay. A perfect fathers day treat. Thank you Bob & Anne.

This tearoom has a stunning view. The food is good, owners are incredibly friendly & would recommend for either lunchtime snack,afternoon coffee or evening glass of wine. We have travelled to the Island several times over the past 25years & stumbled across this gem a few years ago. Now, it's a regular stopping point for any of the above for us.

On a sunny day a cream tea here was fabulous! A few steps to the right of the beach lift, there are fine views from this well-kept garden, making for a relaxing moment to savour.

I didn't disllke anything.Visited 3 days and had Tuna Mayo Sandwiches and Cream teas(twice) and a Toasted Teacake on the third.We have been here for possibly 4 or 5 years now and the owners have also made feel really welcome and the gardens are lovely.

Looking for somewhere for a light lunch and stumbled on this venue by accident whilst heading to the Cliff Lift.. In additon to the main building there is a delightful deck and garden area with a superb view over the Solent. We had the sandwiches and a beer.. Food was plentiful and tasty and I'm told the salad ingredients were grown on their own allotment. Friendly people and very gvfm. Looking forward to returning in the future

A friend and I went here for afternoon tea, we were welcomed by the owner who was very friendly, and ordered a mixed cheese ploughmans for my friend and a cream tea for me which was on a special for two for £4.50, I got two large scones , butter, jam, and clotted cream in generous portions, and two strawberries and a large pot of tea for two. It was very nice. The only thing I would say is that I am disabled and use a walking stick and when I needed the loo it was up one flight of stairs but had some nice ornaments in there, so it would be difficult for someone who could not manage stairs.

What a little gem in Shanklin-my dad and I stayed in Shanklin for a couple of nights this month (May) and were really pleased to find the Carlton's Tea Gardens. We had been eaten constantly since arrival but still wanted a bit of cream tea-the Carlton had a mini cream tea for two for only £4.50-just perfect. We had one scone each, butter, a dish of strawberry jam and one of clotted cream and a great big pot of tea. We also took my Bichon Frise who was welcome in the garden and he was given a biscuit and a fresh bowl of water too. Just had a lovely time shooting the breeze in this peaceful haven of a garden. just had yet another lovely meal at this decked tea garden , the seafood platter was amazing and very good value for money , you can not beat having lovely food and a nice cold lager over looking the amazing views on a nice sunny day . the service was brilliant as normal . If you have not eaten there yet make it one thing you do as part of your holiday while your on the island .

The Deck Tea Gardens is in a wonderful position in Shanklin. The views are second to none and the food is simply delicious. I particularly love the Seafood Platter and enjoy sitting with a glass of wine admiring the scenery. The wait staff are all very cheerful and helpful. I have recommended the Deck Tea Gardens to family and friends for an enjoyable lunch and or an afternoon tea. Can't wait to go back this year.

We cannot wait for the tea gardens to reopen for their summer season in April. Love going here for lunch and a glass of wine or three! They also do amazing food, you must try their seafood platters! Try also a jug of Pimms and drink in the view! We Always bring family and friends and they love it as much as us.

The deck tea gardens is a absolute must do. Beautiful panoramic views across Sandown Bay. Lovely family run hotel offering really good reasonably priced food and drinks. I live on the island and use The Deck as much as possible especially when I have family and friends visit just to see their reaction to the views is priceless.

Ive stayed here a few times and have loved every time more and more! Such a lovely family with a warm welcoming. Sitting outside in the summer evenings is just fantastic you could be anywhere in the world. With great furnishings,spacious rooms and a cosy little bar this hotel has something for everyone. Set on the peaceful cliff path you can relax and enjoy all year round. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. And continue to stay here when I need to get away and relax. A* all round!!

The Deck Tea Garden is a beautiful and welcoming place with a wide variety of food and drink which are all provided with a top service. The staff are very helpful and make you feel really welcome. The setting is one of the loveliest ive seen on the island looking out to Shanklin Bay and the ocean. I really cant wait to visit again this year.

Love going to The Carlton Hotel for a drink to relax, enjoy some sunshine with a beautiful view. The atmosphere is relaxing and the hosts can't do enough for you, very friendly and easy to have a chat with.Always recommend this place to my family and friends :)

It was just around the corner from our hotel and the cliff lift down to the beach was a few yards away. The Hotel was set back and you entered by the back garden. The tables and parasols were on the decking and there were a couple of tables actually on the lawn. The garden was lovely and had a small fishpond with the sound of water trickling down over the rocks. The food was excellant and the lady that delivered it was very friendly and remembered you if you had been in before.

Did not stay at this hotel but spent two late afternoons/early evenings sitting in the lovely gardens overlooking the bay enjoying drinks served by the owner. There is a full drinks menu along with the option of 'bar' meals (early evening ) and afternoon tea. The owner was very obliging/friendly without being overbearing.Will definitely visit again.
