Darwin and Bear in Chesterfield

I would never ever ever order from here! If I could give it 0* trust me I would! The nachos was just cheap crisps with cheese on… my burrito was a wrap filled with spicey rice and about a grain of chicken. My boyfriend wouldn’t even touch his food as it looked like cat food! Spent £50 and it all went to waste. Suprised this place is even still open as it’s crap. Wouldn’t even touch the pizza as it was freezing. City are loosing again

The nachos wasn’t the best, and the food wasn’t very warm. Wasn’t really worth the money as was more rice and salad than there was enchiladas.

1st time visiting. Seemed clean and the atmosphere was great. But paid 35 poud for cocktails that was watered down and the food was terrible. I went with 4 people, and all said they didn't enjoy the food. I had the chicken loaded fries I had a couple of chips and my mouth was on fire, I don't like spicy food and it didn't state that it was spicy either but wasn't offered anything els so didnt have anytying to eat. Would not recommend and I wouldn't go again.

Came here for a bottomless brunch, was one of the worst experiences. Food was awful (ordered nachos) and the drinks were watered down and tasted horrible. Toilets were disgusting as well, someone had evidentially thrown up in there. Service was average. I’d stick to the chain bars if you want a good bottomless brunch!!

Came here on a first time occasion after hearing good things from a friend Came in, ordered and the atmosphere was lively The tables could use cleaning and they were sticky from drink spills We ordered and the food arrived quickly but one dish, the vegetable burrito has not arrived and has been waiting for over an hour Other than that it is an amazing small place and I will be coming back

Walked in and the music was blaring, staff had their children in and the "dj" was extremely unprofessional. The table was dirty and so were a lot of the plastic plants. We ordered and were served food that had clearly been microwaved. Enchiladas were not three separate wraps as advertised but a sloppy bowl with a soggy wrap on top. Chips and mozzarella sticks were nice, but also the only things cooked fresh. We complained and were initially offered 10% off of our bill, but due to the poor quality we pushed to have the meals removed and paid for our drinks and sides. Was a real shame as in a great location and would be a good space for parties ect... but the quality of the food and the lack of professionalism of the staff let the whole thing down and we will not be returning.

Prices have gone up and portion sizes have gone down, wasn’t overly happy with paying nearly £10 for a burrito that’s nearly half the size as it was when they first opened, was tempted to ask for a partial refund.

Visited for a the first time on Saturday for a bottomless brunch. Everything appeared to be clean. The decor was lovely and atmosphere was cosy. Staff were also fairly friendly. The cocktail menu was varied and drinks were lovely however there were no alcohol free drinks to be seen on the menu card provided. The food was unfortunately not great in my opinion, a tiny portion of rice and an even tinier salad to accompany a ‘main dish’ that wasn’t very substantial anyway left us disappointed, especially for £35 pp. They offer a video game booth so you can supposedly play games but the controllers were horrendously sticky and only one worked. I don’t know if I would visit again unfortunately.

6 of us went today excellent prompt service. Cocktails and food lovely. Only thing I thought was the music was a tad loud but that’s personal preference others may think not loud enough. Highly recommended will definitely be going again soon. Thank you to all the staff xx

My friend took me for my birthday a couple of weeks ago, never been before. The bottomless drinks were good as the staff didn’t wait until our glasses were totally empty. As it got busier there were a couple of times we had to catch someone’s eye but on the whole good service. We enjoyed the food we had and weren’t waiting ages. The only gripe was the expresso martini was really sweet. We were going to have a couple of those but after one we went back to Prosecco. I would go again.

So disappointing compared to last visit. Few years ago it was amazing and yes understand menu changes but the mince beef burrito is now awful its more like chilli with kidney beans in, yuk... peppers and onion like mush, frozen, you've spoiled the menu. Think it should state on menu to about the beef being with kidney beans aswell as I wouldn't have ordered it. When visited last time the burrito I had was rice with mince fresh crunchy pepper's and I'm sure you could choose your spiciness to... certainly won't visit again, menu is disappointing.. husband had chicken enchilada and hardly any filling.. bar women got drink order wrong then delivered youngest burger which was wrong to, was ment to be a plain one without cheese had to wait to be redone. Such a bad experience from first time visit...

Would say that the Burritos are our favourite, both the beef and chicken always taste great and are always hot when delivered. My one negative would be that portions of chips have recently shrunk to a miserly portion in a bag rather than a tray they used to be in and feel quite put out paying £3.50 for such a small portion. Won't bother next time.

Visited here for the first time on Saturday, we were the only ones in for Bottomless Brunch so we got served very quickly, drinks served quick and food was good. I'd say the atmosphere was odd, music blasting like a club at 1pm which was odd, tables and chairs needed a serious upgrade along with the toilets. Same for the glassware. I'm not usually picky but short stem wine glasses give me the ick. 🫣 All in all, it needs some love and attention inside!

Visited for some food before seeing a show at the Winding Wheel. There was an offer on for any burger for a fiver which sounded like a bargain however it was all pretty poor quality. Frozen chips, cheap burger and a pint cost £6.70 which is ridiculous!

Arrived following a booking and a request for a gaming booth. Confirmed by email. Advised upstairs closed upon arrival. No service for 10 minutes and we left. Only two other people present at time of visit (Sunday 5pm). Advised by management that upstairs would have been opened if asked. We asked and they never apologised. Won't be returning.

Restaurant called to say the blender had broke so couldn’t do milkshakes if ordered. Said they would send the £10 cash to refund them. Food delivered and no cash refund was handed to us. Called the restaurant to be ignored, the called back. Told the delivery driver forgot to give it us and said they’d pass phone to the manager, the phone was hung up by the restaurant and now ignoring my calls!! I’m not happy, customer service is shocking and whoever hung up the call needs retraining. This is not how you run a business at all. I will not be ordering from here again!! Disgusting service

Two of the three cookie doughs were burnt and there were 3 ice creams missing, as well as the pineapple salsa.

Really good. Pizza was delicious and a lovely homemade base. No over-sweet sauce or overloaded with cheese thankfully. Chips aren't as good as they used to be. Different product or cooking style, they're not as well seasoned and go a lot soggier than they used to. Otherwise, very good! Speed of delivery, and customer service is, as always, superb. Great local takeaway option, and eating in is good too!

been in a couple times and have enjoyed burgers and drinks but with the delivery rice came cold, enchiladas were spicy when I ordered mild and the wings were drenched in too much bbq sauce and were also spicy when they said just bbq. quite disappointing

Tried this place as somewhere new to experience… what a let down. Most things cold. You pay £3.50 for a portion of chips and get more on the McDonald’s saver menu. £10 for enchiladas that is that smallest I’ve ever seen. Will never buy from here again. For the price we paid of £60 I’m still hungry and most things was cold. Never again for me

I booked the bottomless Christmas themed night for my work's Christmas party and everyone had the best time! Food was lovely, drinks were great and the service was impeccable! I was worried with there being so many of us that it would be a nightmare, but the team at Darwin and Bear really looked after us with zero issues! They even went out of their way to put on the karaoke for us as it was highly requested!! Thank you to the whole team who worked on Friday because some of our team have said that they think it's one of the best Christmas parties they've had!

Visited last night for "Wednesday Pizza". It was a nice pizza, good size. Think pizza plus soft drink for £5 is a pretty good deal. Staff and place were nice too. Will be visiting again and trying their Mexican food as well.

Very poor value for money, when the food eventually arrived (45 minutes late) I was really shocked at the portion sizes. Was really glad I ordered nachos as well otherwise I would have been scratching around in my kitchen cupboards. To say this takeaway should have been £40 without a promotional code is borderline disgusting. I can categorically say I will not be using this establishment again. To summarise food arrived late, therefore was cold which impacted the flavour, the mozzarella sticks were like party cocktail sized and pretty much tasteless. Burrito was stone cold mush with not much ratio filling to tortilla wrap (see photos) worst takeaway I’ve had in long time, I would not recommend.

Fantastic food definitely recommend

An authentic Mexican dining experience! I just never realised that in Mexico the drinks all taste watered down and “nachos” translates to “bowl of dry tortilla chips with no dips”. Underwhelming food, slow service and the staff seemed like they’d rather be anywhere else. Frankly, I wish I’d gone anywhere else, too!

Ordered from here as a collection.. can't comment on service or anything.. ordered a burrito too which couldnt complain about but over £6 for nachos (see image) absolutely will not be ordering from here again.

Food is half decent altho the portion size of the chips is embarrassing. What let's these down however is the delivery... it's absolutely terrible. Takes forever, then is late too on top of that. They have a long way to go to live up to other restaurants. And this isn't a one off... delivery is always embarrassingly slow.

Kudos to the Darwin and Bear eating house for being the only food place open on the road it's situated at 9 pm on a Saturday. The food was ok 6/10. It was served quickly and the restaurant team paid attention to patrons. A point worth making is that most of the diners were under 20 years of age and a little rowdy and immature. The atmosphere was youthful. The restaurant team were in their very early twenties at the most and handled themselves well and were professional at all times. The food is on a Mexican theme and is effectively fast food. The fries were cooked well and the chicken hot wings were very tasty. The DB Mexican rice was dry and shouldn't have been served. The summary is, it's worth a visit as the beers were cold and smooth. The food was tasty considering it was fast food. The front door was constantly being left open by the patrons who had very little concern for anyone but themselves. Due to the door close mechanism being faulty. This needs immediate attention as your food gets cold very quickly. It's a bit pricy.

Ordered and paid extra for Mexican sauce which didn’t arrive. Food was going cold while I tried several times to contact the restaurant but there was no reply. I sent a text message but had no response. The portion size has reduced since I last ordered some months ago, not enough meat sauce which made the food seem dry.

Used to love going here but last few times it’s been disappointing. Food and cocktails are nice but the place could do with a touch up. Upstairs needs closing off. Decor is coming off the walls and they’re all chipped - desperately needs maintaining. The pool table was awful, wonky and needed re-felting. Might order takeaway but won’t be visiting again.

Would not recommend. Got there and said I have booked a table I was given menus and told to find the booth upstairs. Which was filthy. We sat for a while until I went to bar amd asked if you ha e to order at bar which you did. Would have been good idea to tell us that on arrival. Food took a long time to come when it did come I asked for mayonnaise and he said yes but I'm clearing some tables first. My table was booked for 7.30 and we left at 10. Food quality wasn't great but not horrendous either.

On arrival stood waiting unsure if we would be greeted and directed to our table, we was gestured in a direction to find our own table. The table was filthy. We had to wait for over an hour for our food, the pizza was under cooked and the bottoms still doughy. My wife asked for some mayo for the wedges, she was told I'm clearing some tables ill bring it after. We had a table booked for 1930 didn't leave until 2200. Wouldn't go again.

Ordered at 6.45 food didn't arrive until 8.20. The food was mediocre for the price and the delivery time was ridiculous. Would not recommend

We've visited Darwin and bear a couple of times in the past and always been fairly happy. This time we attended on a Thursday, As a family of 4 (2 adults 2 kids) We were seated immediately as the restaurant was almost empty...just told order at the bar whenever you're ready... Went to the bar to order and two of the staff were vaping behind the bar(I don't mind vaping at all, but in a restaurant, surely that's not right) We ordered our food and drinks to which we were left without one of the drinks, when we mentioned it we were looked at like we were thieves! When the food came it was just pre-heated rubbish...really disappointed. The Calamari rings were as tough as old boots. No flavour and just an expensive microwave meal. Sadly we will never return.

Went there for a birthday meal which we had booked prior. Walked in and the reception from the waiter/owner was poor, didn’t greet anyone. The table he offered us was sticky and dirty. Stood waiting at the bar to order drinks for 15mins before we got up and left to find somewhere else to go for food. Watched as the waiter/owner was the only one serving which meant they were here nor there. I gave the food a 3 star rating as we didn’t have any, I can’t critic it. Atmosphere was nice with PS1 in the wall which you were able to play if they had given you that table. Probably won’t visit again.

Came here about 2 years ago and loved the place. But it's gone drastically down hill. No more table tabs or table service! Shocking decision, had to leave my meal to re order and que and pay. Whoever decided to get rid of that shouldn't be in business! Beers are drastically overpriced. Nobody came to see how my meal was. Nobody offered salt and vinegar for the chips, no sauces offered. Had to re que at the bar to request. Such a shame as it had so much potential. My child refused to use the toilet as it wasn't clean. On a positive the food was nice. Won't be back.

Order was delayed, which is of course understandable sometimes especially at the time I ordered. However, I ordered a beef chimichanga & nachos, and instead received a chicken chimichanga and a pizza. Combined with the delay it was very disappointing to get the wrong order. I will order again at some point as usually the food quality is very good, however I feel that this sort of experience should be noted.

We ordered a burrito and enchilada, with milkshakes, food was hot and milkshakes were very tasty, delivered on time, would happily order again.

First time trying D&B fancied something different. Was pleasantly surprised. We had Burritos which were packed with taste and filling. Chips weren't as good, but as only a side didn't matter.

Veggie burrito came stone cold and tiny portion of chips were stone cold and not edible too pizza was Luke warm - not impressed, I’ve eaten in the restaurant before and it was fine but I’m guessing it was cooked a long while before it was delivered and I’m only 5 mins drive away.

We visited for the first time last night with friends and it certainly seemed like a nice little spot, lovely decor and cool little touch of a PS1 hooked up in our booth. We ordered some cocktails and whilst they were very nice I couldn’t taste a hint of alcohol in any of them. As for the food itself, the chicken fries were good but the quesadillas I had were pretty bland and not really great value for money. Same with my boyfriend’s meal. Didn’t really think anything of it last night other than it’s highly unlikely we’ll be returning. However, this morning both my boyfriend and I woke up feeling nauseous from food poisoning. So definitely won’t be going back.

Food was nice, but ordered the burrito which says comes topped with cheese sauce and a salad, but I got neither again. Either remove that it comes with it or send everything that’s meant to b sent.

I had heard lovely things about Darwin and Bear so decided we would start our girls night here with Bottomless Brunch on Saturday. On arrival, downstairs was buzzing, it was lively with chatter and music - a lovely atmosphere. We were seated upstairs and all of a sudden that atmosphere had gone. It was cold, the decor was grungy, there was no music. I don’t think our table had been wiped before arrival. The cocktails arrived and tasted like juice, hardly any alcohol, the coke was flat and several weren’t even made in line with the menu- eg being made with pineapple instead of peach! (Luckily we had no allergies so this was just an inconvenience but could have left some seriously poorly). One of the cocktails turned up 1/3 glass full, looking like it had been half drank. The staff were based downstairs and rarely came up to check on us. The food was ok but not fantastic. The fries were red hot which made it more obvious that the burger had been sat around waiting. The toilets were awful. The flush was taped onto the wall with yellow and black sticky tape. The toilet roll dispenser had fallen or been pulled off and not refitted so the tiny bit of loo roll that there was was just sat on top of the dirty bin and there was no hand dryer or paper towels to dry your hands. I also do not understand why we were made to pay on arrival when other customers were not because in all honesty I would not have paid the money as it was not worth it. We paid over £115 between 4 of us and left feeling very disappointed. There were no customers downstairs as we left and therefore no staff around for us to talk to. Safe to say we will not be returning.

Bases on pizza and cheesy garlic bread were overcooked and dry, No taste. Disappointing because the food use to be excellent.

We placed an order for Burrito which was very nice! However. Beef Nachos... Burnt and not very tasty. Mega Burger and chips... The smashed patties where well over cooked, burnt and very dry, the bun was very soggy and stuck to the tray. Very disappointed with "Mega Burger" in particular as it was one the most expensive items on the menu, even had to pay extra for the chips, which was also sub standard. Most of it went in the bin!

Extremely disappointed with food tonight. £7 for a cheeseburger thrown in a soggy bun with the smallest amount of cheese n no sauce or salad n burger still pink.

Good food and delivery, only feedback I have is that there's only one pizza that's lactose free and my daughters aren't keen on all the vegetables so could a vegan cheese and tomato pizza be added to the menu please? We will be back at some point either way 🤣
