Darren's 'fish You Were Here' in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Hadn't had the chance to visit here for a while as we live in Blackwater, and I no longer work in Redruth. I just fancied some fish and chips as they have been brilliant last time I had them. The staff were brilliant, and we had a lovely chat with one of them who recognised our Merseyside accent. On to the food. Well, what can I say?. I had haddock and chips which was AWESOME. Beautifully cooked fish, and the batter was perfect. The chips were delicious as usual. THE best chippy I have been to in Cornwall since I moved here in 2007. FABULOUS ..

Know Darren from when he had a fish & chip shop in Truro where he served up the best fish & chips in town. He’s only gone & done it again, as he’s now the best in Redruth.

This is the most amazing chip shop. I go regularly as my daughter has allergies. The Gluten Free is so tasty and such choice and never a fear of cross contamination as all Gluten Free is cooked separately. Please visit you will not be disappointed.

Lovely fish and chips! Not greasy massive portions. Only fish and chips my children will eat from a chip shop! Been a few times and it’s always been really nice

Excellent gluten free fish and chips suitable for a celiac sufferer. Nothing was too much trouble, and the menu meant there was lots of choice for all . Would definitely make the trip to visit again.

As well as the usual cod, Darren's does a Catch of the Day special. so far I've had hake and whiting. You won't find any better. Clean premises and friendly staff.

It's worrying that there aren't any reviews from this chippy. Wish I had known that before having food from here. We ordered Fish (twice), Saveloy, Jumbo Sausage and two big chips (supposedly enough for two people). On returning the saveloy was stone cold, not even slightly warm, it felt like it came straight out of the fridge. The chip portions were hardly enough for one person, let alone two. The Fish was OK but on the small side. The Jumbo sausage looked like it had been cooked a few days ago and left in the warmer ever since. Tough & chewy spring to mind. Maybe this was a one off, but I wouldn't rush to get food from here again
