I visited this, being my local store, early the other morning and I was shocked to see the owner and his wife not wearing any face coverings what so ever despite there being a sign clearly displayed on the entrance window saying face coverings must be worn by law when entering these premises.. I felt scared and vulnerable , there wasn’t even a Perspex protection shield for me as a customer at the till. How can this be safe ? I find this disgusting that somebody in this position is flaunting the law and potentially being a super spreader.

In Sandridge on the Main Street near Hartwood forest, this little shop - and when I say little I mean little - is convenient and has all the things a newsagent should have. Pop in here for a pint of milk and a newspaper, buy confectionary or every day essentials . The owner, Dave, is a nice bloke.

This convenient little store in the high street of Sandridge is very close to the Heartwood area. Placed next door to the Heartwood tearooms, it is handy for any small needs when visiting this part of Sandridge.

A store with easy access and has most of what you want when you need it. Parking is easy, store a bit cramped but worth it for what it sells

Great for grabbing groceries or having a quick drink. A bit like a tardis - looks tiny but seems to sell all essential food and provisions.

I love this store. It has everything and is open every day of the year except Christmas Day. You can even sit and have a coffee and pastry here after your walk through the Heartwood Forest.

The owners have done wonders with this shop which is a real village shop - rare these days. They do a pleasant coffee and have a selection of fresh pastries and savouries. Ideal after a walk around the nearby forest.

The Darby’s The Old Village Store, located in Sandridge near St Albans, is situated in a Grade II listed building dating from 1670 (the building has been a shop since 1721). The shop has some limited outdoor seating (albeit next to a very busy road) where you can enjoy a hot drink and goods (including fresh pastries) brought from the store.

Girls who walk lunch gathering - Tudors restaurant was recommended and booked on as a Groupon Steak and Prosecco deal. Not being a steak eater, this was swapped out for Fish and chips and was no problem for our accommodating waiting staff. Starter (Not part of the deal) was Shrimps with garlic butter and bread. Whilst this was quite enjoyable - the Grease from the garlic butter was excessive and not conducive for a pre-diabetic diet. The mains - Fish and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce. Was plentiful and chips nice and fluffy. The fish was not In my opinion fresh and the batter was over done. The mushy peas was dry and bland and I did not eat it or the Tartare sauce. Dessert (Not part of the deal) was Vanilla Ice cream and a welcomed treat on such a hot day/weather. All in all I was disappointed with the food and felt it was "Just okay". Will I visit again? The jury is out. Thanks for the friendly service though.
