Food was really oily, the naan bread was undercooked, the king prawn pure was really sweet. Couldn’t eat the food

Read some good reviews but sadly was very let down by the food. Chicken is dry and has no moisture at all, pilau rice was inedible (the bad microwave packet rice is better) Ordered a takeaway collection and will not be returning.

The food here is always great whether that be for dine in or take away and the banquet night they offer is definitely worth it. I also would recommend their lamb madras and their chicken dopiaza.

The only Indian restaurant we use, food always good service excellent, takeaway just as good. Staff can't do enough for you.

Don’t usually leave a review but this was the best value for money I’ve had for years. HUGE Onion Bhajis and a curry with was flavourful and not oily or greasy like other curry takeaways. Highly recommend.

Stunning food, great service perfect evening ! The Prawn Puree was excellent, nice and hot but sweet and full of flavour The house lamb was outstanding the star of the night ! It's not on the menu, you have to ask for it. beautifully moist lamb, amazing glaze and no sloppy sauce. Ali and his team were attentive and delivered super service. Ali makes the best chai which he did for us to close the evening. Best meal out for months

First time visiting Dakshin, Fantastic food and very friendly staff. Chicken Ceylon was just right level of spicy-ness. Onion Baji was huge but was nicely crispy all the way to the middle. Definitely on the list to revisit when in the area!

Didn’t feel like cooking, after returning from a week away, so we decided to make a return visit to this restaurant we had been taken out to a month ago. It was a quiet Monday evening, so we were able to have a lot of interaction with the owner, who is incredibly knowledgeable about Indian cuisine. He recommended we try several dishes, including the tandoori chicken, which was mouthwatering. The ambience is understated, the service top-notch and the food is excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant in the lovely little village of Downie.

We went to this restaurant on a Saturday evening and had a really lovely meal.. we were a party of 4 and we all had House Special fish curries, which we all really enjoyed. My Goan fish curry was wonderful, I can thoroughly recommend this restaurant, Ali who served us was friendly and helpful. We will return.

Takeaway. Tried it twice. Awful. Tiny bits of paneer. Sauce just tasteless. Never again. Never had a curry so bad. Really wanted a good local takeaway as so few in the area. Maybe dine in is better

Great hosting and delicious food. We thoroughly enjoyed our Wednesday night buffet to celebrate hubby's birthday. Dakshin has a fantastic selection of interesting dishes on the menu. There was less choice available for the buffet menu but there was still a great selection and plenty to eat. The great price includes starter, main, side and rice or naan and it was all delicious. Our host was personable and looked after us very well. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening and enjoyed the added excitement of running for the bus to get home. Sorry we left in a bit of a rush at the end but thanks for a fab night and hubby's birthday treat. We will certainly be back!

Very good quality rogan chicken, Bombay potato and paratha. I loved the fresh and 'clean' taste, wouldn't have minded a bit more of the Indian spices (not chilli!) but the taste was good and balanced and I prefer that above a stronger but unbalanced taste.

SECOND TRY- hoping they could redeem themselves. Flavourless. Madras had 3 pieces of chicken and tub half full. Paneer chunks tiny. No garlic flaour at all to the naan. Absolutely abysmal. Changing to one star. Can't comment on atmosphere as take away but quality of food poor. Tiny chunks of paneer, not fresh. No spices, all curry's tasted the same. Thin dhansak. Have moved to the area and there is no comparison with my previous curry house.Curries all tasted the same. So disappointed as expected more from the reviews.

People and food were pleasant . Very small portions and just 2 peices of meat in lamb biryani . Chicken was dry in 1 dish. . Sag aloo very nice

What a great find! If you visit Darwin’s house then drop in for lunch or dinner. Fresh, delicious Indian cuisine at its best. Highly recommend the tikka mixed grill.

This is our first visit to Dakshin restaurant and we really enjoyed the food, especially the Ali Roti and Onion Bhaji which were both large in size. The service was excellent and the owner, Ali, made us feel welcome. We were even offered complimentary drinks after our meal, which was a nice gesture. Overall, I highly recommend Dakshin Indian cuisine to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience. The food, service, and atmosphere are all top-notch. I can't wait to go back! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Went with my partner after reading the good reviews.The service was decent restaurant was half full and the food was nothing great in my opinion. We had a chicken jalfrazi and a king prawn Balti and both dishes where both loaded with loads of onions and not enough chicken or prawns the rest of the food was to a decent standard would I rush back definitely not I’m afraid had far better curry’s elsewhere.(We was quite disappointed)

Ate there with my wife, the food was good so recommended my daughter and her friend. They had two main meals and drinks which cost just over £30 but were billed £60+. Sadly, I’ll not be returning. CHECK YOUR BILLS

Just ordered a meal via Deliveroo. It’s probably the worst Indian food I have ever had. Meat portions in starters and mains were insultingly small (see attached photo) most of the main was made up of onion. The popadoms were soft too. Not worth the £53 charged.

I go here every week. Fantastic food and staff.

The food quality was good but every time I order, the portion sizes seem smaller. Most of the containers were only filled just over half way. I know the cost of everything is going up but I'd prefer to pay slightly more and get a normal portion size. We were all left slightly hungry.

We get a takeaway delivered from here every week and have eaten in the restaurant. I have travelled through India so I'm a bit picky with Indian Restaurants. Obviously they do the usual British/India favourites but their curried and side dished are very authentic to India.

We had had great food from this restaurant before but our latest delivery order arrived late, and cold and very oily. Our mixed starter was nothing like the description on the website and very poor in comparison. I did message the restaurant privately about this but they didn’t respond and so I’m now posting publicly. How very disappointing.

Worst experience. Ordered chilli fish and it was a coverup dish, made using yesterday's Amritsari Fish scrap coated with sauces. The Fish wasnt fresh and the taste was off plus salty. We sent the dish back and got the same plate of fish the second time. We tasted a small piece and sent it back again. Owner didn't even have the courtesy to come up and speak to the customer on why the dish was sent back but had the audacity to charge for the dish saying it was alright for him when he tasted. Never going back there and do not recommend if you are looking for authentic indo-chinese.

Small quiet location, delicious curry!

So just had a very disappointing experience with dashkin. We ordered earlier this evening. A tikka masala was ordered but instead we got chicken tikka. We contacted the restaurant and told them the mistake they made. They sent us a tikka masala in the end but for some reason charged us again. Can safely say won’t be ordering from here again

This is a gem of a place located in the Village of Downe. Not very many tables and a quiet atmosphere provides a perfect setting for authentic Indian cuisine. This is not buffet style but made to order.

It's amazing restaurant the vibe and mostly food. If you just moved from India and craving for indian and spicy food then must visit. Till now I visited around 5 times and always found food are tastey as well as the service also good. I say must visit.

I went to visit dakshin with my husband and toddler. The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere and attentive service. They made us feel very comfortable. The food was delicious and authentic. There were many options to choose from and a variety for my toddler too. I will definitely be going back as we thoroughly enjoyed everything.

Had a lovely evening with my wife. Service was excellent with the waiters being very attentive and friendly. As for the food, ten out of ten! The Bhajis were a must and the flavours in our all the dishes were cooked to perfection. Well done all at the Dakshin. Will definitely be coming again

Blink and you'd miss it!!! It sits snuggly on the main road of the village. The food is amazing, the service and friendliness of the staff is outstanding. A little more expensive than more popular restaurants, but definitely worth every penny. Can't wait to go back.

We are from Brazil and had the most fantastic experience! We went on a Monday evening (typically less busy) and got to be hosted by the restaurant’s owner. He was the most considerate and friendly host! The food was just amazing - all freshly cooked, delicious! The whole experience was terrific, and as we told him, they got themselves two regular customers! If you are passing through to visit the home of Charles Darwin, make sure to stop by! ☺️☺️
