First time with friends it was amazing and so delicious. The staff are very friendly and kind recommend this place

The food is not good, the prices are very high (£20 for a shawarma) and the portions are small. My husband asked for a Lamb Ghouzi, but was given another dish instead. This was not a mistake, it was in fact what the restaurant considered a Lamb Ghouzi. In reality, the food advertised is not what you will receive. What's more, we had to pay a 10% service charge, which clearly wasn't deserved given the food we'd been served. I strongly recommend not going to this restaurant.

Overpriced and Far from Authentic I had a very disappointing experience at this Kurdish restaurant in Edinburgh. The meals were not authentic at all, and traditional sides that should accompany the dishes were missing. For instance, the kebab was served without bread, which is unacceptable for a traditional meal. When we asked for just one piece of bread, they charged us an extra £3! We also ordered the meat qozi, and it arrived with no soup or side salad—both of which are standard with this dish in Kurdish cuisine. The portions were small, the food was overpriced, and the quality didn’t match the cost. We ended up paying £58 for a meal that was neither satisfying nor authentic. I would not recommend this restaurant. Save your money and look elsewhere for a genuine Kurdish dining experience.

A Kurdish restaurant, beautiful atmosphere, nice location, delicious food, and respectful service

Before I start the actual review, I have to say that the staff are top notch. I came from Germany and I was proud and happy to see that there is a Kurdish Restaurant in the middle of Edinburgh, unfortunately, I was shocked when I saw the food first being served. Imagine a skewer of Kebab without Grilled tomatoes or Onions or vegetables beyond 1/3 of a bell pepper and some leaves here and there. Imagine my shock x 2 when I saw that the kebab was served with not even a complete bread (1/3 of a bread, had to order extra bread for around 3£) The Qozi (lamb) was also served without any broth (not even the typical beans). I am not going to mention prices as it is the centre of the city and prices nowadays are wild. The food didn’t taste bad at all though. But this is not how Kurdish food is served…

Honestly, the service is very, very bad + the food was not up to par. We tried: Hummus (the only acceptable one), and bread whose edges were not even The shish tawouk did not taste good, as it was not cooked completely and was just salty and did not have a slight taste or spice. The Qozi chicken tastes bad and the rice that comes with it is dry. Unfiltered orange juice even though they say fush. In short, what do we advise you to do? In short, what do you recommend?

Quick stop for a warm treat! Grabbed a hot chocolate and it hit the spot. Rich, chocolatey, and just what I needed. 4/5 stars!

Average... the taste is really average... Eating this thing is compared to buying instant food in the supermarket, that is, it is hot. The portion of food is not small and the taste is really average. Especially the shrimp dish is so sour. It's like throwing the shrimp into citric acid, soaking it for a long time, drying it and then frying it in a pan. From mouth to taste, it's enough to be called a disaster.

Together with my friend, we ate dinner there today, we ordered Kurdish Kebab. However, we really regret eating there as the food never tasted a real Kurdish Kebab. The meat was unpalatable and distasteful, with a really bad smell. The place was empty as we were the only customers at the time. The price was too high for such a bland meal. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Hello Food is not eaten at all, which we would never advise. I ordered shawarma, they brought it to me two days ago, and it was ruined and smelled terrible. I ordered food. If I had eaten shit, it would have been better than eating in this restaurant. I do not recommend it at all.

We loved the food! We tried 4 different types of Kabab, and they all were delicious with an amazing flavor. People were also very friendly. This restaurant is on my list to go again whenever I'm back to Edinburgh.

The menu is very limited. The standard goat meat they served (QOZY LAMP) was extremely cold and didn’t seem freshly made at all. I informed the staff, but they said there was nothing they could do. As a result, I had to try another grill and ended up paying twice for my dinner

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at Daika Kurdish Grill was extremely disappointing. My family and I initially entered the restaurant but decided to leave after changing our plans. As we were leaving, one of the servers made an incredibly rude comment, saying, “You just came to make a phone call in a warm place then leave.” This level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable and made us feel completely unwelcome. A restaurant’s staff should maintain professionalism, even if guests decide not to stay. Unfortunately, this experience left a very bad impression, and I won’t be returning.

First of all its not a kurdish restaurant the menu its in kursdish but nothing like kurdish food I have never seen bad food like it not even in street foods I can’t describe it just don't fool yourself never try there. If I can I will share there are pictures of dishes and any other kurdish restaurant dish . Its just not right use the name for rubbish dish as qozi ba ghost or qozi ba mrishk . You should take of Kurdish restaurant.

Very normal and not worth the price

Zero for service, the lady was very unwelcoming, there was no Kurdish atmosphere and the food portions were small for the price.

first and last visit. Food was very poor. no taste at all. felt like they have given microwave food. served naan in paper bags and water bottle cap was filthy and black moldy. food was not even hot just slightly warm. Microwave food from ASDA tastes much better. well over priced.

hummus was outstanding, absolutely star of the dinner. Do yourself a favour and try, you’ll thank me later. Portions are more than generous and very tasteful. Vegan dish was top notch, so was the lamb chops. Staff super friendly and quiet atmosphere

Review from a Kurd here. I rarely write reviews, but this made me do one. We invited some special guests here, only to be disappointed. Firstly, I understand this is not a corner shop take way, but £8 for a bottle of normal water??? Ridiculous.Furthermore, Authentic Kurdish food is anywhere but here. The Kebabs don’t come with any tomato,lettuce, onions, lemon, pickles or Nan. ( They come with a small amount of a pink sauce????)Leave alone the price. Rice is rubbery and QOZI LAMB is nothing like a true traditional Kurdish Qozi. I would honestly never go back here even if everything was free.

The worst reastaurant in edinburgh the food anounced as kurdish but it was not ,very cold un cooked and told them that it was not cooked they told me take bklava instead😏and for that raw,cold food the prices were pretty high i will never ever go there again. I hope none waste their money in this restaurant.

THE best babaganoush I've had in my entire life. This is a darling little restaurant that is really worth a visit. Everything we tried was delicious, very welcoming atmosphere, and great service. Very highly recommended.

It was mediocre. We went for some shisha since our usual place, Sofia's, was closed. This place's shisha was £2.50 cheaper at £17.50 which was a positive The shisha was ok. The food was surprisingly pricey so we didn't order any. The atmosphere felt pretty crummy and the front outdoor seating area where shisha is served has no heating.

Horrible service. Food was very mediocre, small portion sizes compared to competitors and very overpriced. Chips were still frozen in middle. We asked for the optional service charge to be removed upon receiving our bill and our waiter was very angry about this. She kept arguing with us and said that the charge cannot be removed unless the service was poor or the food was bad. We didn’t want to make a scene in the restaurant which was becoming busy together with the fact that we don’t like confrontation but the waiter was becoming increasingly loud and aggressive and made us feel very uncomfortable. The waiter then removed the charge and once we finished entering our pin into the card machine, the waiter said “I wished I wasn’t so nice to yous”. We were in shock and asked her what her name was which she replied “none of your business” before snatching the card machine back from us. Absolutely shocking and horrible experience to go through in front of family with young children. Cannot justify this response and can only think that the waiter was being prejudiced towards me and my family. There is no other explanation for her horrible behaviour and this should be looked into by management and training given to this very rude individual.

Not good place to visit for shisha and shisha not clean

We ordered mixed grills, chicken gozi, and muhammara. The food is bad and has nothing to do with the name, and the blonde waitress’s treatment is bad. She was speaking in English, thinking we Arabs don’t understand.

Searching for a place to eat and the 4 of us found this terrific spot. Very unassuming. We ordered a few starters a few mains and a few sides and 2 bottles of some very modestly priced wine. Dinner for 4 about $120 including 2 bottles of wine. Will be coming back

AVOID THIS RESTAURANT! It took my family quite a while to find a suitable and halal restaurant in the area, and once we arrived and saw the prices we nearly left but chose not to purely because of time. We at least expected good food, good portions sizes for the prices they asked. As a Kurd myself I felt ashamed to go to a restaurant that served such simple food, obscurely small portion sizes for such a high price. Tell me why 2 lamb kebabs cost £20? There are no sides, not even a small salad or rice. Explain why service fees are required when the staff genuinely do nothing to warrant a 10% addition to our already large bill? Why are the prices on menu online soo drastic to the prices at the restaurant, it’s false advertising. Please just don’t go here, it’s not an authentic Kurdish restaurant at all, it’s just a money hungry owner, should be ashamed

Our dining experience at Daika Edinburgh was unfortunately marred by an extremely unpleasant interaction with our server, Jessica, particularly concerning the optional service charge. The issue arose when we requested to remove the optional service charge from our bill. Instead of handling this professionally, Jessica became confrontational and argumentative. Jessica persistently tried to force the optional charge on us, despite its clearly stated voluntary nature. The situation escalated when, after we had paid, Jessica made a highly inappropriate comment, saying, "I wish I hadn't given you good service." This remark was not only unprofessional but also revealed a concerning attitude towards customer service. Jessica’s visible anger and aggressive attempts to enforce an optional charge created an uncomfortable and hostile atmosphere. This behavior is unacceptable in any service industry, let alone in a dining establishment where customers should feel welcomed and respected. The food was also very disappointing. There is much better and authentic Kurdish food elsewhere .. with better service that is worth the tip.

They're just taking money from customers. They sell their food in the name of Kurdish food، but this is not Kurdish food، Kurdish food tastes very good، I have never seen any Kurds working in this place، so don't waste your money and don't visit this place

Overall we were disappointed. The food was quite bland, I had the falafel to start - really very dry and tasteless, and the spiced lamb kebab- which was a fairly dull affair with chilli flakes sprinkled on top. Lacked seasoning and overall flavour, and it was a bit lukewarm. I can't speak for the other dishes Service - everyone was pleasant but each stage was dreadfully slow, and we had to remind them on occasions. Cost: over priced, especially bearing in mind the above points So, I wouldn't recommend it at all.

It's alright since we got a nice view on the bottom street. Be aware that they got a 10% service fee! All that for not even a smile and overall a cold attitude.

There was inappropriate treatment by the employee in charge. She forced us to take food for two people to allow us to sit, and the price of the food was very expensive. I took a chicken tikka meal with a falafel sandwich for 66 pounds.

Atmosphere wasn't the best, poor quality tables and chairs positioned far to close together, we wasn't informed that sitting outside was a shisha area so to someone who doesn't like smoke this wouldn't have been a place where we would have chose, we were joined very shortly after our food arrived by two separate couples puffing away blowing there smoke and smell all over myself and my meal, food was ok nothing amazing, chips only warm no seasoning and no staff around to ask for condiments. When it came to paying we were asked if all was ok, we said it would have been nice to have known we were sitting in the Shisha area as we wouldn't have sat there to which Emma rudely replied well it is a Shisha terrace!!!!!, there was no apology and her rudeness continued. Sorry I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.

Wouldnt give any score if was given an option visited this restaurant from Glasgow going by reviews in Google. The food was OK but felt like it was overly priced for what the limited menu had to offer and no kids meal options as well as Irn Bru for a Scottish country when other drinks from coca cola company were served. The staff were OK but didnt go the extra mile in making us feel welcome or with a smile. Upon asking for bill we asked to have the optional 10% service charge to be removed the manager on shift was being very rude and confronted us on why we were removing from receipt unless we had complaints and forcing the charge in us. For future purposes please have this noted on your menus to avoid further confusion amongst diners. When we had paid we were then told by the manager quote 'I regret being nice to you' learning manners wouldn't go amiss here as it will cost your customers in future. We also asked for the womans name and were told 'that's none of your business'. Never have we been confronted like that avoid at all costs as not much going for the place.

Great location. That’s about it. Coffees arrived - spilled! Chicken hummus shawarma was expensive and poor. Meat was fatty and over cooked. The bread was decent though. “Optional” 10% service charge - so another point lost - we are adults and can determine our own tip.

Fantastic food, great service. We had lunch and they got us out in time for all our tours at the castle. Couldn’t ask for more, and then we witnessed the staff handling some really rude and abusive diners. Hats off to those staff for being courteous and professional towards the diners, who seemed intent on ruining someone’s day!!

Discount food at premium rates. Overpriced takeaway food served by surly staff who don't care. Food, drink and service by folk who don't care about any of these. This is an obvious tourist trap. Avoid.

Many things are notable about this place. First and foremost, the food is fantastic and we enjoyed everything that we ordered (and received). A couple of notable detractions must be put forth though. The service is truly awful. The server was friendly but completely incompetent. She spent far more time flirting with the other server and less time attending to our basic needs. One, we ordered two beers. After an inquiry and after our food arrived 20+ minutes later our first beer arrived. While waiting she was just standing around for that 20 minutes chatting with her co-workers. Two, we ordered some rice. We never got said rice. Three, we ordered a simple appetizer. That appetizer did not hit our table until after our complex full meal did. With a built in 10% tip it seemed like she couldn't care less about us since she was already paid. The other things to note about the atmosphere where twofold. One, the round table high back comfortable looking seats were awful. Not a huge deal but it was a bummer. Two, the restaurant heavily smelled of cigarette smoke. No one was visibly smoking so it must have permeated from the kitchen or something like that. It was definitely coming from inside the restaurant somewhere and not from outside. That really put a damper on the experience. Anyway, at least their food was delicious but I probably would not go back unless they had a serious change of service.

Very welcoming staff, good atmosphere with a window table ( nice view), food was tasty (had humus with naan bread+ fatoush+mint tea) except for the fatoush which didn't seem to be fresh and the serving lady was flexible and reasonable, she cancelled it from my bill (greatly appreciated).👍
