D J Chippie Cafe in Moray

Tried this chipy a few times since reopened after COVID. Cracking fish and chips. Very friendly with a smile service and good crispy chips.

This place has to take the prize for the worst chips ever made. The owners should be embarrassed and ashamed at how awful their chips are. I didn’t know that chips could taste so bad! The batter on the fish was tough and chewy, and the scampi were overcooked. Not deserving of even one star.

Shocking chips! £4 for a large box which is extremely overpriced and London prices! Chips cooked so much they must of been reheated, cooked, then cooked again.

Chips were cold and tasted Of cardboard totally disgusting and expensive,even made me feel sick. the tray was only a quarter full. I shall never be visiting here again.

Tried the fish and chips today and they were delicious....fresh crisp and flavoursome just as they really should be but rarely are. Beautiful and good value too.

We had already had inedible chips from here previously but figured that everyone has an off-day si we decided to give it a second chance to the tune of three fish suppers and two sausage suppers for the kids - horrific! The chips were not edible and, having worked in catering for 20 years, it was obvious that they were either reheated or had been lying around under heat lamps for a significant period of time! -The fish wasn't great either. Had it not been for the fact that our kids were hungry, their sausages were okay and we were elsewhere by the time we unwrapped the poverty within then l would have returned to ask for our money back. This is not rocket science, folks - this is chips. You should care about what you are giving people when you are taking their money - Surely the objective is to retain your customers - we gave you a second chance and we will definitely not be back.

We have have had a fish supper from here several times now, the fish and batter are always very nice, however the chips always seem a little dry but this has been our experience of chips in Scotland so far, perhaps it's the potato they use here? The owner and staff are always friendly so there is a nice atmosphere while waiting. One time the fish melted the polystyrene trays that they supply,it's a shame they done use cardboard trays also better for the environment.

Easily some of the best fish and chips we have tasted. Fish that’ has real Flavours and cooked to perfection with crisp, golden batter. Hand cut chips dripping with flavor and not oil. Friendly and efficient staff. It may not be haut cuisine, but by golly it’s tasty and heartily recommended.

Visited whilst on holiday, and found a good little chippy. There is a bit of a wait, as food is cooked to order, but is well worth it. The haddock was fresh, and good quality too. Very reasonable portions, and very good value for money.

Second visit in two weeks due to being hungry and in the area. My previous two visits were pretty bad and it would appear this is the norm for DJ It's the only one in the area, so they hike the prices. You pay less in Elgin where the overheads are higher and less for more in Rothes which is an outstanding chippy. The chips are dry and tasteless, and the portion size was embarrassing (last week and this week) The staff were lovely however.. I'll not be back and simply cannot recommend. I've had 2 meals given to the dog from here, a portion of chips of around one potatoes worth and a sausage supper which barely passed and was eaten due to hunger, yet was still hungry! Note to owner.. wrap things in paper, the polystyrene tubs are terrible, paper is traditional and gives them that chip shop taste! Boak

Over cooked dry fish and soggy chips. But that's standard in Scotland Worth the experience. Good range of product, even haggis.

Great selection, and all fresh, as cooked to order. Staff really friendly. Also have an "eat in" next door. What more could you want.

Every time we visit Dufftown we have a haggis supper from DJ Chippie. Always perfectly cooked and excellent value.

Visited Dufftown during Speyside Whisky Festival and this chip shop did not open until 16.30 when it should have been open from mid-day during the Festival as there are plenty of visitors looking for something to eat. What's wrong with serving Fish and Chip High Teas, etc?

Had a lovely meal here fish and chips were lovely with great portions and they do small portions as well which was ample for mother in law . Service was excellent and price was good value will be returning next time when in Dufftown.

Really good chippie, visited when on holiday in the area. We’re white pudding supper fans (and quite fussy!) and this was one of the best we’ve had! Unusually comes in 2 round portions so were expecting to be disappointed, but they tasted amazing. One of our party had a fish supper which was really good too.

Lovely fish and chip place. Huge fillet of fish, fresh chips, and really well seasoned. Friendly staff, and loads of choice on the menu. Just exactly what it should be 😁

La segunda vez que he estado aquí y no una gran experiencia o veces me temo. Pescado y patatas fritas (abadejo). . . . Así las patatas fritas estaban bien, aunque supongo que no muchos de ellos. Sin embargo, el pescado fue incinerado, como era el bateador. Seco y duro por las esquinas y el perro nos 3 / 4.

Vinimos a Dufftown mi novio y yo y decidimos por una noche nos hubiera pescado y patatas fritas para el té que eran muy agradables. grandes porciones y no llena de grasa y grasa como algunas tiendas de pescado frito con patatas fritas. También pedimos un bar mars, ya que nunca han maltratado tenía uno pero he oído cosas estupendas, solo puedo decir que esta fue una de nuestras fantásticas vacaciones destacados como el mars maltratada era absolutamente delicioso! Por favor, pruebe una no importa lo raro que suena jajaja allí genial! La próxima vez que visitemos definitivamente más! :)

We were on our way from Aberlour to Huntly and needed something quick to eat. We have lived in Aberlour 10 months and been consistently disappointed with our local chippy. We decided to give this a try instead.

Nos detuvimos para comer un bocado antes de destilerías caminata/excursión. Muy pequeño, mamá y pop. La gente era muy amable y el pescado y las patatas fritas en una caja estaban deliciosos.

Un café encantador pequeño - super limpio y la comida era muy fresco y bastante deliciosos. Dirigido por una familia y todos fueron tan amables y acogedores. Las horas varían, así que verifique la hora de apertura para garantizar que no se pierda la oportunidad.

Arrived just before closing time so owner 'comped' us with a few extra sausages that he had left. Potions and taste ok - it's a chippie, want can go wrong really?

Coming from Yorkshire, I'm picky about good fish and chips but this place is as good as any I've had down there.Portions are excellent, the fish has proper crispy batter and the chips taste excellent. Live about 15 miles away but it's worth it to visit on the odd occasion I get a craving for a decent fish supper!

when visiting Dufftown in autumn I have to go to Chippie to have at least two times his delicious fish&chips

A camping holiday Sunday evening supper called for Fish Suppers. Chose to travel some distance to Dufftown as the best nearest chip shop and was not disappointed. Friendly staff, reasonable prices and good hot fish and chips. Their special fish (battered and breaded) is an interesting take and was certainly very crispy. Mushy peas also good. The suppers kept very hot over a longish journey back to the campsite.

While working near Dufftown, we had missed dinner and decided to try out DJ Chippie. This is a quality take away, (they also have a sit down restaurant, just up the road) I ordered a fish supper and it was delicious. Perfectly cooked and served with a smile.

Went there this week with friends on our motorbikes. Really friendly people, huge helpings and beautiful food. We will be back!

Best fish n chips we've had!!! Visited here a couple weeks back with my 2 kids and grand parents of which are as fussy as anyone you've ever met!!everybody loved their food and demolished the lot!!! It ranges from fresh seafood, and quality meats.To top it off we met the owners who went out their way to accommodate us which was a real personal touch, thank you very much for having us, will be back soonThe Hendersons

Good fish and chips at a reasonable price. Very friendly staff! It was pouring rain outside and they let us sit in the cafe to eat even though it was closed that evening.

After a long day of hiking and whisky tours, we were looking for a quick and satisfying meal. We ate in at the cafe, and each had a portion of delicious battered fish, sharing a huge portion of chips and some mozzarella sticks also. Service was quick and friendly, and the young lady who served us was extremely pleasant and chatted with us as she began cleanup (we were the last table before closing). Great value!

The Cafe side of DJs is always a great place for a great value meal out. Staff are always friendly and prompt. Fish suppers are always hot and tasty, great piece of meaty fish and a portion of chips to suit your appetite.Quality local establishment, highly recommended.

we always have chippie when in Dufftown but this year were a bit disappointed at DJ Chippie. In previous years the fish has been whale sized but this time fish was much smaller and vinegar sprayed on - all to save money I suspect. I would have preferred same standard as before and been willing to pay a bit more. Disappointing

We have been to this place every year for the last 7 years when we holiday in Dufftown. It is superb. Friendly staff a and great food. The best is the special haddock supper. The fish is huge. Looking forward to one this week as we are going up later today for 7 nights.

We called here for some fish and chips after a long day visiting John o' Groats. The food was cooked to order and was very hot and fresh. The staff were very chatty and informative on things that happen all year round in Dufftown. Coming from South of the boarder and always having cod it was a nice change to have haddock. Excellent will definitely visit again.

The Chippie has really good fish and delicious chips -- this is what they do best. Make sure to get there early to get a seat. They also do carryout. Really good.

This is a simple Chippie with a dining space on one side. Very clean and very friendly! The Mince Pie and fried haggis were just awesome. Try the actual fish and chips too.

This place is both a takeaway and a cafe. The cafe is quite small, but the staff are very friendly, the fish and chips were great, with lovely crispy batter. The only downside is the short opening hours (5-8) and the limited days of opening (Thurs - Sun).

I would actually rate this establishment at 2.5 stars if possible. The food seemed to be of average quality and is probably very tasty when right out of the fryer. The problem was, even at 6 pm during the week, the fish fillet and chips were sitting under a heat lamp. I think for a very long time. So the moral is, if it's under the lamp walk away.

Nice food friendly staff. We ate on two nights there and was not disappointed at all. Plenty of room friendly staff who recognised us the second night.

We had finished a tour and were famished. It was about closing time, dark and rainy. We ordered two orders of fish and chips, ate them in the car. crispy crust was superb, not the soggy beer battered stuff. if we had been there the next day, we would have tried the lamb. Great Mom and Pop place.

Loved the fact we could sit in the next door cafe area. The pie and fish were excellent. The chips need work, a little cardboard-like.

The food is very good here and represents good value. We ordered a take-away and had it at our holiday cottage. We rang in and they cooked it whilst we drove there.There's a good range of food for meat and fish eaters and vegetarians.They cook in vegetable oil and so OK for us vegetarians as well.We had - fish and chips, veggy burger, chip butty and chicken wrap. We all liked our food.They also have a cafe next to the Chippie.

WE had a couple of meals from here during our holiday and were amazed by the excellent chips etc. I would love to know the secret ingredient in the batter because it's the best I've ever had. Had fish which was so thick it was like eating a steak and chicken which I enjoyed but could have done with a wee bit gravy. The chips though small were superb crisp and hot even after a 5-10 minute trip to get back to our digs. If you want a great take away don't miss DJ's you will not be disappointed

I visited this place on a wet March Thursday evening for a takeaway meal whilst working in the area. The re is a cafe attached and had a couple of diners in when I passed. The place is clean and the chips were spot on I had a steak pie which was tasty but a little dry, order gravy next time, ohh and yes they do have the mythical deep fried mars bar on the menu but it was a step to far for me so I did not try this delicacy! Honest!

Just over £5 gets you a superb fish supper, and the owners are the friendliest people you will meet anywhere, we are lucky to have this as our chippie...

I am Stephanie Stuart. I am the descendant of Robert and Christina Stuart who lived at 16 Fife Street (now the Chippie Cafe) from 1838 to 1852 when Robert died and is buried at the Old Mortlach cemetery. His family moved to Ontario, Canada, where their son John started the John Stuart Mill in Ingersoll, later to become the Quaker Oats Company now in operation in several countries including Cupar, Scotland. I regret that the cafe was closed when I visited on June 21, 2013.

Both take away and sit down table service is available. Food is cooked to order, good prices and cafe is clean and tidy. Just wish it was open on Monday evenings, especially during the whisky festivals.Highly recommended, especially after whisky tastings or distillery visits!

Starving after whisky tastings - dropped into this cafe for an early dinner. Unfortunately they had run out of kebab ingredients, thus ordered a burger. Should have asked for fish n chips - this looked huge and tasty - but the burger was tiny, about the same size as the pinapple ring inside (Hawaiian burger). Dry bun. Tasted okay, but it really was the smallest burger in the world! Plus they charge for tap water.

A local fish and chips restaurant, good value for money if you like local and fried food. Very welcoming and friendly service. Try the fried sneakers with milk ice cream!

Excelente pescado y papas, el filet tiene un corte grueso, lo hace más jugoso, menos seco. las papas normales. El aceite es nuevo. No hay postres. Los haggies fritos, estaban bien. La hamburguesa de pescado no se puede apreciar bien el pescado, como en todos lados lo mejor es lo que no está molido, es mejor pedir filets.

Cooked to order, which isn't always the case. Decent sized portions too and well-priced. Very pleasant staff, one of whom I suspect was the owner.

whe had a burger and fries here. the bread was verry dry, there was no ham on the hawaii burger.no value for your money

We ended up in Chippie because it was one of the few places still open after 8pm. The overall place is not bad, but the food was really terrible: the onion rings were dry, the chips flabby and oily, and the hamburger was exactly an hamburger between 2 breads, not even the shadow of a salad leaf or a tomato slice. When I asked if they had a green salad as side, the waitress looked at me horrified, as I had asked for a poison! The only thing they have in abundance are dressings and sauces.

My husband and I thought we would try this after reading the reviews. If you are looking for atmosphere I wouldn't recommend. It was very clean and the service was good. The fish and chips were average in my opinion, not bad and not excellent. Huge portions however. They do not serve beer which is not the end all but being on vacation and having fish and chips my husband and I were wanting some local beer. Overall, it wasn't bad but not what we were looking for.

We ended up at the Chippy Cafe on our last night in Dufftown for a taste of the fish and chips. The cafe was absolutely spotless, the service excellent, and the fish and chips were hot and very tasty. Worth a second visit.

Had fish & chips from here, the fish was enormous. They do a large portion of chips but the standard size we had was more than enough. Batter on the fish was a bit too thick for my taste.

Called in late evening expected to get the remnants of the nights frying ,but no,the cheerful owners cooked fresh both fish and chips for us to take away. Very tasty, quality fish and good chips.well worth it.

Not the best time of the year to be in Speyside as so many places close, but the fish and chips from DJ Chippie were excellent, sitting in the moonlight in Dufftown's square next to the clocktower. Friendly service, really good solid fish, well-cut chips - what more can you want - the other end of the scale from La Faisanderie but just as enjoyable.

What a warm and friendly bunch. Haggis is just lovely, great value.

Stopped in here after a day of walking the countryside. Got the fish and chips and a tasty meat pie. Very filling, we could not finish it all in one setting so had leftovers the next day.

Good location for hearty basic food like fish and chips. The older ladies serving the food can not be made to smile or engage in conversation.Open only from 4:30 to about 9:00 pm Tuesday through Sunday. Closed Mondays.

I always visit this chippy when visiting relatives in Dufftown and there is very little if not nothing I can find fault in. The staff are polite and friendly, the food is great, the portions are generous and it's very clean and well maintained. If you're in the vicinity and fancy a quick but tasty bite to eat then this is your place.

I eat here often and the quality is excellent, the staff friendly and the chips are great. Glad to have this chippie nearby.
