This is a gem. We dound this restaurant on the beach as we swam in Dekalia golck beech. We had excellent fish and chips as well as Kalamatas. Well prepared and cooked. We were all very surprised at the quality of the dishes and the servers were really fast. The drinks were on the table within minutes and the food was really fresh. We had great views of the beech and we will be going again we cant fault this place

Apparently the first Greek restaurant in Bristol, opened 30 years ago. Service was friendly and personal, just like being in Greece. Ambience nice also. Tzatziki and Stuffed Vine Leaf starters were nice. Mains of pork and beef stew were huge portions with a home cooking taste. But the food was middling hence a 3 star rating. Good prices though.

We call at this restaurant on our way home from rugby or football on a fairly regular basis, the guys are lovely and friendly and will always accomodate us however late our arrival. I always enjoy the salad and especially like the lamb chops, This is the oldest Greek restaurant in Bristol as far as I am aware and does feel a little dated but we take it for what it is. Its not a candlelit date night venue I admit but a group out for fun will have a laugh and decent enough food.

This place has a fun vibe. Colourful murals, old school carpets, jolly music. I really wanted to like it. But the food was terrible. The worst possible ingredients - tiny flabby chicken wings, tasteless soggy salad. And some shocking cooking - our moussaka inexplicably tasted like toothpaste. When the waiter came to collect our unfinished food he aggressively interrogated us on why we hadn't finished. To be fair to him, he did then take the moussaka off the bill. But at £65 for 4 this was still a big bill for such a bad meal. Probably works as a late night stop off, but as a sit down meal this place has got nothing going on.

The starters are small and expensive, with nothing else than a quarter of a « grilled » (burnt) halloumi and dry, old, not seasoned salad. The mains consisted in microwaved sausages, microwaved roasted potatoes and really bad vegetables. Again, dry, old salad with 2 tiny pieces of feta on top (« Greek salad »). Red wine terrible. 40pounds for 2, we had to go to another restaurant as we could not eat anything there and were still hungry. It is sad, as it feels like the restaurant was once upon a time a nice place, but people have clearly given up and the quality is now terrible.

So, where do I begin. On route home we decided we would stop by this little Greek kebab to try the chicken shish to take away after a lovely night in The Kingsdown vaults. First of all I need had a stroke at the price of the food and for the money my expectations were high. After an extensive wait we eventually got our food which was wrapped in a thin brown paper bag, the portion wasn't large, the chicken was dry but at least the salad was ok. Not to mention when I asked for 'a little bit of mayo' he told me that mayonnaise is charged extra as sachets on top of the kebab?! What sort of kebab shop charges extra for source and doesn't take card payments under a tenner? Don't waste your time or money. Go somewhere else

I went here last October for my birthday and thoroughly enjoyed it! 6 of us all went for the Mezze as you get to try a number of different dishes. You get a big selection of dishes that come out over a period of time which were all delicious and there was plenty of food. My boyfriend took me back here on Valentines day and the food was just as good as I remembered. The service is second to none the owners of the restaurant are very accommodating and definitely give a service with a smile. They are husband and wife and have apparently been running the restaurant together for over 30 years. I would highly recommended the restaurant to anyone who likes this type of cuisine you will not be disappointed. Please do not let the take away to the front put you off as the restaurant is to the rear. Although the decor is a bit dated the atmosphere, service and food are all amazing. This is definitely going to become a regular for me and my partner.

Boyfriend ordered the special from the grill and I had the moussaka. The special was bland and the meat boring. The moussaka was just a mushy pile of white sauce, potato and minced lamb. It didn’t resemble actual moussaka in the slightest. When we complained to the waiter and it was passed into the kitchen, we were met with grilling questions and intimidating behaviour. We just wanted to pay and leave, but instead were confronted by the chef who clearly wasn’t happy with our complaint. There are much better Greek places to go to. Don’t waste your money. Rice was nice though.

We were all very pleased with our meals as well as the warm, friendly atmosphere created by the staff at what I presume is a family-run restaurant. The food was authentic and tasty, with a menu that was very represtenative of my personal experience of greek tavernas (from numerous holidays). The prices were definitely reasonable, especially considering the location is central bristol (£11 for a kebab meal, £12 for greek beef stifado meal). I would definitely return and take other friends and family. If you like greek food, then you should certainly try it out.

First impressions...Not the best, the shop front looked a bit shabby and the inside decor was really dated, although we were greeted when we came in.The food and drink...The food was alright, not something I would blow the roof off about. But the drinks - well I thought it was a bit cheeky to pour 2 pints of coke with a bit of ice from a coke bottle and charge £3.50 each!! On a good day you could buy 7 bottles of the stuff for that price! The atmosphere was probably as lively as their flowers placed as center pieces on each table - dead (see photos attached)I'm never normally this critical but I think £3.50 for a pint of coke from a coke bottle with a bit of ice is definitely taking the piss, and £5.80 for a small doner kebab - that's probably taking the piss too, but I still bought 1 on the way out!

We ordered two classic greek dishes moussaka and lamb souvlaki. I thought, if the restaurant has been in business this long (the interior was a time capsule from the early 1980's) at least the food must be good, right? ...Wrong! Both dishes ominously arrived with the same dark-looking rice and an unappetising looking shared salad and because I wasn't expecting rice, I ordered a side plate of fried potatoes. The rice tasted as if it had been reheated and was inedible. A moussaka's key ingredients of tomato, aubergine and lamb were either completely absent in taste (in the case of the tomato) or in very short supply. The dish was heavily dominated by a heavy bechamel sauce over-spiced with cinnamon, but without the whisked egg to make it light and fluffy or the subtelty of nutmeg. I even found an olive stone in it. The sheepy quality of kefalotyri or pecorino was also as absent as the lamb!Seriously, If I had not been so hungry, I'd only have eaten a couple of mouthfuls. My companion's griddled lamb was dry, chewy and of poor quality, she left 75% of it and so there we were with... chips and salad. The potatoes were all I found palatable, but my companion seemed to quite like the salad, which for me was overwhelmed by finely chopped white cabbage.Thankfully, I was not asked by any of the owners or waiter if i'd enjoyed the food, because I would been brutally honest, but at least with this review you have been forewarned! If you crave some classic Greek cuisine in Bristol, you may not find it in The Kebab House!

Initially when we arrived I thought my friend had an odd sense of humour but she lived in Bristol for nearly ten years and used to visit frequently. From the outside and just inside the door it looks like a standard take away because the restaurant is all the way through the long building and all the cooking is at the front. It does look like a 70/80's style restaurant, all the traditional pictures, photos framed of visitors and ornaments that make it feel like a slice of Greece for the visitor. The welcome is warm and friendly and it is a family run restaurant. They were very busy, it was a Saturday night and there was a family party right behind us of really, really noisy and demanding children up to about teenage age. They were supposed to vacate by 7.30pm but were still served politely until they finally left. We had the mixed meze so there was lots of food, it was all hot, tasty and filling. We really enjoyed our evening and had a chat with the owner before we left, about the history and the years they have been there. We would definitely return when in the area next as it is definitely worth travelling that distance in to the centre of Bristol for.

My gf and I are now regular guests. The owner and his wife (they're chef, waiter, cleaner) are genuinely very kind people. Never been on weekend, I suppose I wouldn't enjoy, but during the week it is a cozy, worm, old fashioned, authentic place, with a strong personality.Massive portions, we never finish up our food. A must: SIDE SALAD, feta cheese, white cabbage, peppers, olives and a sort of secret ingredient! Amazing!!!Weak point: moussaka didn't taste fresh, bit disappointing....but they still need to be rate 5

I brought my wife here for a birthday treat. She started with the spinach parcel, I had hummous. She moved on the moussaka, which was a large portion with rice. I had kleftiko, which was enormous, with roast potatoes. We were also presented with a large dish of salad. We could not finish our meals, the portions were so generous. We couldn't manage a dessert. An earlier review said there was only poor quality house wine - rubbish, they had most of the Cypriot wines.I agree it's not the best Greek restaurant around, but there are very few in this area. The prices are very reasonable and the staff very friendly and attentive. It's the second time I've been here, and it won't be the last.

Don't be put off by the entrance which makes it look like a take away kebab shop (which of course, part of it is!) Venture further inside to step back in time for the authentic Cypriot / Greek food. A lovely little restaurant with bags of atmosphere. the menu is traditional , the staff are friendly and if you have every been to Cyprus, you would feel at home - it really made you long to be back in the sun. The food was excellent with generous portions and there was no hurry for you to leave, even though they were obviously going to be busy that night. The cost was reasonable and I would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant.

Not the best greek restaurant you could eat in but suited the purpose. Its probably a better Kebab house than a restaurant some of the food was reheated rather than cooked to order.

I am writing this review having eaten here 3 times and can’t believe I have not written a review sooner. The atmosphere is warm, friendly and authentic and the restaurant makes you feel like you are on holiday! The food is freshly cooked, generous portions and extremely good value. The stifado is a particular favourite. We are going on first Greek holiday this September and will be visiting beforehand to get us in the mood! Very well kept secret and really worth a visit.

Don't listen to all the bad reviews, this place is great! Myself & my wife took 2 other couples here on Saturday night who had never been here before & they loved it! The waitress was really friendly & explained all the menu, having a good laugh with us throughout the night. There was lots of food & even for 2 of us who are big lads we struggled to finish the mezze! Once we paid our bill the manager came over & bought us all a drink of our own choice which was a nice touch! I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a night out & a good meal but book before hand as there are only a handful of tables.

I was excited to try this place as it had pretty good reviews and I thought it looked reasonably authentic. I ordered a large lamb shish kebab, rice, and baklava. The kebab has absolutely no flavor at all. The pieces of lamb were extremely fatty as well. I ended up having to spit out about half of each piece. This was easily the worst kebab I have ever had. The rice wasn't any better. It looked like it was going to have a lot of flavor but again had none. The baklava was fine; it wasn't great and wasn't terrible.

The good reviews tempted me to try it last night. The food was terrible, bland and had a far from homemade feel. I'm sure that the rice was uncle bens microwave tomato rice, no flavour whatsoever. The tables are so close together that you get reared as other people get up and down to the toilet which you can hear every time it flushes. My wife was very disappointed with all of her food, as was I. We have spent a fair amount of time in Greece and love it but is far from anything we had there. Wine terrible with just red or White House wine. Never again!!!

This is a well kept secret! Outwardly the place looks like a slightly run down Kebab takeaway which has a fantastic reputation for excellent takeaway Cypriot food. However take an extra few steps when inside the shop and you are imediately transported into a small intimate Cypriot Taverna. The staff are very attentive the food is of excellent quality and quantity, DO NOT ENTER if you have an appetite like a bird! You will have to book a table as this is a very popular venue for those like me who are in love with genuine Cypriot food. Go and enjoy.

A Cypriot friend told us the restaurant was really nice. So we've decided to try their take away kebabs first: we had 4 large ones, with 2 skewers each (mix of pork, lamb and chicken), ~£6.60 per kebab. The pita they used was tiny, some supermarket pita, instead of the real thing. The meat was ok, but missing spices, oregano etc. which would give it flavour. We had to pay extra if we wanted tzatziki, which is, in my opinion, unacceptable for Cypriot/Greek food. Fries were not added either, instead they threw a massive portion of lettuce and chilli sauce. All served in a paper bag which got soaked very soon. This was not a delicious wrap, we had to pick the salad first, then find the meat, then some pita at the end. I am tempted to say I don't feel like trying their overpriced restaurant now. There are nicer options in Bristol.

I am confused, all these reviews are excellent and we have just had the worst restaurant experience ever. The food was mostly poor with the exception of the spicy sausage. It was the comical service that was really bad. I asked for the food to be boxed up and the waiter just dumped the food into a carrier bag and tied a knot in it. Then I noticed we had been charged £1.60 for a cup of hot tap water. Now drinking milk to cure the heart-burn. Was so bad in there. This is my first ever review and I hate people who write bad reviews, just trying to get my point across.

Authentic dishes, reasonably priced and very friendly staff. Keo Beer, Cypriot wines and a lovely atmosphere. You will not be disappointed. Best to book at the weekends as it's not very big and does get busy.

This place has been around for years. I went there in the 80's and thought it was special. Just been back with a group of friends and ordered the Meze. Hoping to relive the happy moments of the past but found it was still serving up the same menu from then.Although still a friendly restaurant the food is tired and of poor quality. They are banging out some mediocre kebabs with a very poor presentation. The meat is dried out and uninspiring.Really needs to get up to date and vastly improve the menu.Place also needs a lick of paint.Things have moved on and it really needs to offer a much more delicious and better cooked menu.

This place is quite small, and when it's full is not always easy to have a chat without screaming but I like it. Don't be scared due to the absence of windows, but I like this place because the food is good and the staff is really kind and patient, and if you became used to go they treat you like "one of the family". The food as I said is good, fresh salad, good mussaka and kebab. The sweet are nice to. I would say that this place is amazing for group of friends, just be careful about the number and the timing: it's easy to find it busy. You have to try it once that you are in Bristol, also for the staff that is able to make the difference!

Was up in Bristol visiting relatives... I Love Greek food, especially the Cypriot variety...I'd sourced this place and although there aren't many reviews here, they're all good/excellent so far so it was a "must do"Bonus, it was just down the hill from the hospital we were visiting...Anyway, doesn't look much from outside, a "greasy kebab shop" take-away..BUT step into the back and it's a piece of Cyprus in Bristol!Yeah, the decor is a bit tatty and naff, yeah, they've got plastic tablecloths and cr@p wine glasses (normally something that ranks with MRSMG)BUT, what a welcome!, The place was packed - always a good sign... It's a family business, and they're very much "hands on"The four of us had a variety of starters, (excellent Kalamari!) then followed the mains...Kleftico to die for...A perfectly grilled steak, and my lamb chops were the best that I've had in ages!!salad, roasties, fries (only minor gripe - no rice)Keo beer, or pints on draught, the usual Cypriot wines... we were well fed...Great party atmosphere, George, the owner/chef came and sat and chatted, we haven't had as much fun in ages!!OK, "haute quisine" it isn't, but for a belting night out, you've got to go....My Son and his GF, who are picky eaters, both gave it 11/10... I'll just give it full marks all round! They're open late as well!!ATB,J.

This is by far my favourite restaurant in Bristol, we've been going there for years and the food is the most authentic i've ever eaten in this country. George and Flora are fabulous hosts and make you feel extremely welcome, the food is delicious and completely authentic, my favourite has to be the meze if i'm feeling hungry but the kebab house special always goes down a treat as well.
