Custom House Pub and Kitchen in Newham

The Pub is on the ground floor and provides very reasonably priced meals. Can be busy, but the staff are very efficient and helpful.

We went out of season and when there was nothing on at the EXCEL centre and so pub was empty. Abass, the waitor was very nice and personable and deserves a special mention. We had a Sunday roast (beef). The vegetables were very nice. The generous portion of beef was rather overdone and a little tough, which was a shame. I think this may have been a one off as the pub was quiet. We enjoyed a few drinks and coffee, and so it was a pleasant afternoon.

We stayed at the Ibis whilst attending a 3 day show at the Excel Centre. We had dinner in the pub over the 3 nights. All the various dishes we had were very good, in particular the Spaghetti Bolognaise and the Haddock and chips. We were served by some very attentive staff - all of whom were very efficient. In particular we would like to mention Cristina who was very friendly and a lovely lady.

I had been so looking forward to having a Sunday roast on my first weekend in London. This pub was near to Excel, where I was attending a travel summit, and it fit the bill. I know the British tendency is towards roast beef that resembles shoe-leather but this one just dodged that mark. The broccoli was perfectly cooked (not over done as most pubs do) and the potatoes were good. The meal was well presented and overall I enjoyed it.

We came in for dinner on a Saturday afternoon in Feb 2020 after visiting the Excel centre. The Staff and service where amazing. Do NOT rate this pub from the appearance outside. The food was hot and tasty. The staff could not have been more helpful, welcoming or friendly, I truly believe this pub is not given the credit it deserves. A massive thank you to Abass and Sophia you are both a credit to this pub and we would definitely come back. The cleanliness of the pub was also exemplary the toilet also get 5 stars for cleanliness too. The pub also had a lovely fire burning too. Mrs L Brown (group of 5 adults)

vegetarische Burger mit Süsskartoffel-Pommes war sehr lecker und ausgezeichnet. Bedienung Simona war sehr freundlich und nett. Ich mag Simona. Auch die an der Bar Cristina war sehr freundlich :) Ich habe nächsten Tag nochmal mein Lieblingsessen vegetarischen Burger mit Pommes gegessen. Es war alles einfach so lecker :) Ich und meine Freundin hören ja nichts (Deaf) und bin froh, das wir mit der Bedienung Simona und mit Cristina mit dem Handy per Sprachübersetzung verständigen konnten. Ordered the XL burger which came with onion rings and chips to takeaway at a rather costly price of £18. When it was ready it came in a polystyrene box wrapped in cling film which made the food sweat. For this price I would expect fresh cooked chips and onion rings but these were obviously out of a packet. The burger was but average. Next time I'd choose the much cheaper takeaway round the corner.

on a weekend stay in London the staff made us feel welcome .the food was reasonably price fast service and tasty . Laura was very helpful and friendly when i had an issue with a card payment . as were all the staff I met over our 3 day stay in london

Actually went on 2 evenings as the first meal was pretty good. Fairly basic pub but the food was a pleasant surprise. I have the beef pie and on the next night the sirloin steak.

Beer is good (ipa is my love). Fish and chips - delicious!!! We were served by Cristina, she's great :) I'll come back next time to have a great time.

Needed to grab some food after checking into our hotel. Everything around the Excel centre was closed or really quiet at the time. However we saw some reviews on The Custom House Pub and thought we’d give it a try. On arrival it was also pretty quiet and a little tired looking. However the staff were friendly and efficient and the food was really good. We had the homemade pie and I have to say it was one of the nicest I’ve had. Would highly recommend that dish!

Went with a group of friends. We got served by a lovely lady called Laura, who gave us amazing service and was overall very wonderful. Most definitely will be visiting again.

Saturday and we decided to stop off in The Custom House Pub, Best Decision! Greeted by Valentin who helped us find a table in the crowd, then when ordering at the bar we were served by Molly, Very helpful when deciding on what drinks to get and shes funny too! definitely a place where you feel welcomed from the get go!!

I had a dinner ın this place. Food was very deliciuous one of the staff member Valentin was very profesional and nice he help us to chose a food so We was very happy by his recomendation. The place is also very nice, clean and tidy.

Although it was a quiet night we still had a lovely evening having a couple drinks in the custom house pub, served on the bar by the lovely lady Molly! Was very helpful and recommended a beer that she thought my friend would like before he arrived, which he loved!

We had a fantastic experience at the Custom House Pub courtesy of Valentin and the exceptional staff. We required catering for over 60 people on 2 consecutive evenings at the pub, who provided a buffet for us with a variety of great starters, mains and desserts. On the second evening we made a last minute schedule change which was accommodated without question and helped us out hugely. Massive thank you to the Custom House Pub for providing such great service - we will definitely be working with them again next year.

Ok London is not cheap but where is these days! I was looking for the live football/ soccor game, anyway seen this place had 4 stars, well am not sure why as the place does frozen food nothing is fresh and they need to change the oil in the fryers as you can smell it when you come in, the buns was badly burned and as for the guy eating the fish well he is sucking on it rather than eating it... it's like having a beer in a kebab shop..not good really you get what you pay for..

Me and partner came into the pub Sunday evening, Laura greeted us and gave us a table and Valentin served us our food and they both checked on us several times to see if everything was okay, which it was, food was really good, but Valentin and Laura really made our night, very friendly and positive waiters. Would definitely recommend.

We visited last night for dinner as a family of 4 and had a great night, plenty to choose from on the menu, food was great especially the steaks and they also have a 15% discount on Monday for all food and drinks. Definitely recommend.

Nice meal pleasantly served by Molly and with the 50% discount was reasonably priced. Food choices rather limited but enjoyed our beef pies.

Had dinner here as I was staying at the hotel next door. The food tasted great, and was the sort of price I'd expect. The staff were lovely. I was served by Jakub who was really friendly, polite and helpful the entire time I was there. I'd certainly go there again. Recommended.

Had a great eve there. The food was amazing at decent prices and the staff went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. Highly recommended if you are at Excel. Its just a couple of steps past the sub station and totally worth it.

Business trip to Excel, good location busy nice atmosphere service adequate poor burnt burgers soggy chips minimal garnish. Given 15% discount. Beware 12% service charge added to bill without being advised. Wouldn't return for food.

After a troubled day at work I just wanted to relax a bit and take my mind of things. I was served by Pedro, a very friendly guy who provided excellent service in all aspects, and you could really see he cares about making the customer fell good. I am definitely going to frequent this place more often.

Good choice of food very close to the west entrance to the Excel. We went in a large group and the staff in the kitchen and front of house handled it very well, with food coming out together and hot. Very happy with the experience

Simona’s service was very professional she looked after our table and always came to ask if we’re okay. The pub wasn’t very busy or loudly, and also we enjoyed the music. On my way home on Wednesday and stopped off at this pub for some snacks and a drink, I was served by Molly on the bar and the service was great and very efficient! She recommended me some food and drinks, was very pleasant and helpful.

My team and I ate here last Saturday night after a busy day. Despite it being a busy night due to Comic-Con weekend the food and staff, particularly Laura, stood out enough for me to leave a review.

The staff at custom house kept the business flowing smoothly even in busy times, my server Laura was absolutely amazing!! Very helpful and advised me well on the drinks menu, and she kept up such a positive attitude whilst serving!

My husband and I went to Custom house pub being it was right by where we we staying. They had a nice selection of draft beers and liquor along with bottles if you prefer. We also got an appetizer trio for 10 that was awesome. It’s a lively pub and waiters were attentive., especially Abass. We will be going back.

Deciding against eating in our budget hotel eaterie we searched trip advisor and settled on this venue. Worst decision we have ever made. I would not refer to this as a pub it is a sparsely furnished eating establishment that it attached to a budget hotel. It is hugely over priced and not very comfortable. My ribs were tasty but the chips were limp and greasy. I ordered half a portion of ribs and it was smaller than a child size meal. My son.s pizza was dripping in grease and didn't.t taste of anything. There was so much tomatoe soup on the base the topping slipped off whilst he was eating it. Despite the fact my partners steak was over cooked he did say it was tasty so it is for this reason I have shown 3 stars. The staff were very friendly but this would not make me recommend this venue to anyone. We were asked if everything was ok and we did reply that it was but this was only because we were starving and just wanted to eat. We were shocked by the total cost of bill not having realised that a 12 percent service charge is added when you place your order at the bar. Delivering 1 plate of food noway warrants a 12 percent charge. WE PAID IT BEFORE REALISING IT WAS DISCRETIONARY......look for somewhere else...don t waste your money here.

Visited the restaurant with my family the other day, nice setting and Loved the roasted chicken. Served by Henry who always had a smile on his face.

We booked 2 evening meals at Custom House Pub to cater for our event staff. Pre-event, the communication was simple, quick and and our changing requirements were no problem. Over event weekend, we ordered both off the main menu and had a buffet in a separate function area. Both evenings we found the staff to be extremely helpful, flexible and proactive. The food was great and the kitchen staff were more than happy to cater for dietary requirements, and had no problem with us changing a few details over the weekend. A great experience overall!

Brilliant food and customer service, Laura and Irma have been very helpful, very pleasant and very cheerful when we’ve needed a pick-me-up after a long day! Food has been amazing and always delivered in a decent amount time!

The waitress we had was not particularly friendly, but more significantly, the food was pretty awful. We ordered the sausage and mash, and one beef burger, and both were very underwhelming and plain. We both had stomach aches afterwards, and I would recommend anyone to walk five more minutes elsewhere for a better experience.

We held a 2 day event on the premises with international guests. The booking details for the event was handled professionally at every stage. We had options to explore with regards to set up styles, menus and timings. The staff also set up the venues and supported the decoration of the rooms. The staff were helpful on the days of the event, including Simona and Crystablel went the extra mile, were friendly and the service was excellent.

I had a quick lunch with my dad and we were wonderfully treated and waited by a girl named Irma. I can only recommend the place and give a solid thumbs up to Irma’s service.

We ate here and used meerkat meals fabulous value and had steak and ribs pepper sauce sent back as not correct they replaced and it was perfect

Lovely place for food. Ate here for 3 days. Had pasta , burgers and pie over the 3 days. Food was piping hot and served with a smile. Staff maintained a presence to make sure everything was alright. My only complaint was the beef and chicken pies were ruined by the amount of herbs inside it overpowered the meat. Otherwise a very enjoyable meal each day.

Staying on holiday at the Ibis Styles Hotel and found this gem of a pub attached. Hubby and I had the Chefs special T Bone Steaks, which were cooked to perfection and the kids had a homemade pizza and burger which they immensely enjoyed. We can highly recommend the sticky toffee pudding too! Special thanks to Irma and Simona whose customer service was excellent. Will definitely visit again

We have come to London from Devon for the weekend. Staying at the local Good Hotel. We would recommend this for the good food but more especially for the very friendly staff (Henry looked after us) and in this very hot weather - working air conditioning!

Lindsay was wonderful! The food is great and well priced as well as the alcohol. Definitely would come back if I was from here!

We enjoyed the pub, drink selection and quality, but our highlight was Irma! She was very sweet, polite, helped us with our selection, and took great care of us. She even recognized us on the second night of our stay.

If you are staying in one of the chain hotels in the area this is a good bet for dinner and drinks. I had fish and chips and my husband had ribs- both were good. Friendly service too.

I came with my sister for some food and drinks. Service from Laura was brilliant, checking on us every so often to see if everything was okay, very friendly, and very easy to chat too. We was recommended Custom House Pub by one of our friends and we are not disappointed. We will definitely be returning very soon.

Visited here for the first time on Wednesday. Entrance was difficult to find and it looked closed from the outside. Once I was in, I found a light and airy bar. I was greeted well and served in an instant. Food was very good, the portions were large and the service was quick. The staff were friendly and changed the TV Channel so I could watch the Tennis, especially Lindsay who was the star of the show. Will definitely visit again next time I'm in the area.
