Called in for a spot of lunch when passing through the area. Restaurant was closed so we headed to the bar area for some pub grub. We had scampi and battered fish mains and the food was served in good time, it was well cooked and presented and was really tasty. Fish was evidently fresh and portion sizes were generous. Overall we were very happy with the food, quality, price and friendly service. It's a pretty bar in a beautiful general area so do give it a try when in the area. Well worth a visit and happy to recommend.

Was tired of all the traffic in Belfast and found this awesome little place outside the city. It has such neat history and is quite cozy inside. Has a nice bar, fireplace and many beers on tap too. Service was good and the mussels and steak I ordered had a great taste. There is tons of free parking!!!!

Unfortunately, we did not thoroughly check our bill before departing only to discover we were billed for chicken strips which were not part of our order. So our advice is to all future customers is to carefully check their bills before paying. The food and service was good enough but this ruined the experience in which is admittedly a challenging time for eateries.

My wife and I took the long way from Downpatrick to Strangford intending to eat at Ardglass golf club. It was mid afternoon and the golf club was crowded so fortunately we decided to move on to Curran’s. We had eaten here before so were very happy to call again and it was terrific. The smiling and pleasant young waitress showed us to a table where the parasol shaded us from the glorious sunshine. My wife had the honey chilli chicken (starter) while I had the seafood chowder(main). Both meals were lovely and the service was discreet and attentive.

My wife and myself were directed here to eat whilst staying at the nearby Burford Lodge. We were warmly recieved and shown to our table. We did not book in advance an I have to say that I was a little apprehensive when we arrived and found the place almost empty at 6 o clock on a Friday night. The menu and the service were excellent and our drinks ( 2 pints of guinness ) arrived without delay. We had starters and I ordered Steak & my wife ordered Lasagne for mains. The food came within about 15 minutes and was absolutly great. Whilst waiting for our order I quickly realised that my worries about numbers present was completely unfounded as when our meal arrived about 20 more people had arrived. There is little choice of places to eat in the area an in my opinion prices were fair and we got value for money. We enjoyed our meal and would definitely return to "Currans" when next in the area.

Attended today for my Mothers 70th Birthday. We were met and seated by our waiter Stephen. He performed his role well enough. However that's where the good times end. For starters we had 2 seafood chowders and the soup of the day, which was a veg broth. The seafood Chowder was the highlight of the meal overall. It was not going to be winning awards but it was quite good. Seemed a bit weird to serve it with a quarter ciabatta rather than wheaten but whatever. The veg broth would however get you beaten in many an Irish household it was extremely watery and lacked body. The mains....oh dear the mains. They were bad, really bad. Start with the best of them the Cod. Portion size was quite impressive actually, however it wasn't good it suffered from the same problem the rest of the dishes to come did. Cheap nasty oil leaving a poor aftertaste. When my father who could wash down his half ton of salt with a gallon of oil mentions the food being very greasy....there is a problem. Mothers scampi looked quite good, it still suffered the oil issue but it looked the part....until you cracked open the batter to find small prawns strugglng to kill half the batter. Mine though, mine was by far the worst. I ordered the seabass...what was presented was a disgusting embarrassment to local seafood. The seabass had barely any crisp to the skin, it was mushy, and it needed returned before Shell got a mining rig installed on the plate. Quite literally could have poured at least a quarter maybe half pint of oil off that plate. So that was returned. Here's where you weren't perfect Stephen you didn't actually apologise for the insult the Chef had sent me you did however return it and didn't put it on the bill so kudos. So i got the scampi as replacement wouldn't be perfect but looked a lot better.... unfortunately given it was the result of returning something the kitchen felt they had to rush....and bam here's your scampi with some delicious under-cooked batter just the way nobody likes it. Needless to say deserts weren't sampled unless you count a bottle of pepto when we got home. Really a shame...such close access to lovely fresh seafood and yet you have a Chef that simply doesn't care. Not that from responses to negative reviews on here I can see Management doesn't really care either as they don't actually make sense as responses. To help you out before you copy paste it....i am not confused, nothing needs explained better. You just need a Chef that gives a crap.

Booked table for mother’s Day and was very disappointed with the service. Artrived d on time for booking and it took 50 minutes from order was taken for dinner to be served while family of 8 came in after us and they were served first. My husband and son ordered battered cod and there was very little fish in the batter. Batter was also very greasy. Daughter also lifted sachets of brown sauce and was on dinner when realised was out of date by almost 2 years. They were dated 2017. I told young girl when she came to clear table and she just shrugged her shoulders. Also very expensive for pub grub.

We arrived for Sunday carvery and decided to order chicken strips of starters 2 per plate and looked and tasted like asdas finest frozen strips, the carvery was lacking, cold old potatoes mixed with new warm ones, no Yorkshire puddings, stuffing tasted like the stuff you get from the shop in a bag, my wife also found a hair in her potatoes and got a new plate nothing said to chefs and potatoes left out without being checked and this was after we complained to the waitress. Visited Curran’s on many occasions. Seriously let down by service. 1hour 59minutes before we got served. Ridiculous. Stephen the manager apologised and gave us a £25 voucher. Decided to go back a few days later and all was fine. Returned in early September to fall for the apologetic patter and sat for 1hour 20minutes without food. Decided it was time to depart. Before leaving Stephen was comforted. Decided to let him know my thoughts....... it didn’t sit well and he was apologetic about poor service once again just like past experience ever after reassurance as on previous occasions. Really very Sad to see Curran’s fall to this level as we use to love going there. Paid our drinks bill and decided to go. Other customers decided to do the same. Unfortunately and after many very pleasant times there we’ve decided never to return. Aldo’s took us at short notice and what a pleasure it turned out to be. We now been there and love every visit. Great little spot in the country. Could be a really decent wee Irish place with big fires, good food and local charm. Unfortunately the food is basic, tons of fried stuff and sloppy presentation. Good portion sizes but basic and greasy. Place needs a good clean and a revamp of the menu. Prices are normal but food doesn’t justify it. Food has stagnated, if all your awards are from 2012 you have a problem. Too much local competition in ardglass or strangford to go back. Clean the place up a bit and get better food coming out. The kind of place that you wish was great but it just isn’t :(

Great selection of drinks, brilliant food, and everyone we met in Ardglass was friendly and extremely welcoming. To top it off after seeing us wait for a considerable amount of time for a car to take us back into town, the Bar manager jumped in his car, pulled up and asked if we needed a lift, proceeding to happily take my 3 companions and I to the next pub. Curran's is a lovely place with a nice atmosphere. Food excellent. Staff pleasant and well mannered but could improve customer experience by working on attentiveness. On entering the establishment staff did not make eye contact or greet us. After a few moments a member of staff behind the bar asked us if we would like a table for two. She showed us to a table and asked if it was OK but then added, 'It is the only table for two we have.' This indicated we had no choice in the matter. This was the first time we had visited the establishment and thus were not familiar with the menu. I ordered coffee but was not offered a choice. I learned later a choice was available and had been offered a choice would have ordered a different coffee. We wanted a quick lunch and I had two starters - soup and mackerel pate - both were lovely but the wheaten bread is not what I would describe as a generous portion. No one visited our table whilst we were eating or when we had finished, and I would have liked more coffee and a dessert. I took a dessert menu from a table nearby. There was one other table occupied at this stage and one member of staff on the floor clearing tables.

Out for a drive today and came across Curran's. My wife and I both had the carvery and thought it was lovely. Plenty to eat and very tasty. The atmosphere in the restaurant was nice a cosy and the staff were very helpful and polite. We'd definitely go back again if we were in the area.

Went to Currans for Sunday lunch , was given friendly welcome at door. Carvary was on when we arrived but we were looking something different so we're given main menu . Choice was good . My husband is gluten free and they were able to accommodate him. Food was beautiful, tasty and hot .

Visited Curran's with my wife to sample the Christmas menu. The venue had a warming ambience and this coupled with friendly welcoming staff served to enhance our experience. Excellent varied menu and great value with 2 or 3 course options. The food superb, the only regret being it was almost impossible to choose between the available menu options. My solution re-book for next week and possibly the week after again.

Went for lunch twice in September. Fish and Chips were impressive. Light batter and stunningly fresh fish coupled with excellent customer service make this place a real gem. I had been some time ago for Sunday lunch which was average then but can't comment on this recently. The staff are from Kerala in Southern India and they know a thing or two about customer service. Their approach and their good manners are excellent.

I was here today with my partner and family. The food was fantastic and service impeccable. There is a great vibe in the bar as everyone is friendly. Well worth the 10 minutes from Downpatrick to get great food. Best restaurant in the area. I would recommend the Cod or steak sandwich

Meal for 4.My wife and I had the so described, seafood medley.Only 2 choices - steak or seafood medleyOnly 2 different fish types on plate - medley?the edges of the flat fish were hard and had to be chewed or left uneaten.the fish itself was dry, overcooked and tasteless.the larger green veg was tough to eatthe creamed potatoes were lukewarm.stella beer was verging on flat and served in other brewers pint glassesHeard before hand it was not a great place to dine - proved rightmost definitely will not be back here.pros.staff helpful and friendly. cosy restaurant.our company had the rump steak - appeared well enough pleased with their meal.

I took my son for meal on the way to an event in Downpatrick. We were a bit pushed for time so both quickly settled on scampi, recommended by my wife on our previous visit. The batter was brilliantly dry and crispy, not at all like the greasy scampi you get in some places. The fish tasted really fresh. Unfortunately we hadn't time for starters or desserts and just settled for a couple of quick coffees to finish. The Guinness is as good as ever, though I caused a few raised eyebrows and received a bit of banter from the barman and a few of the regulars when, for reasons I won't go into here, I asked for it as a shandy. All good crack and a great meal. Highly recommended and we'll definitely be back.

This is a great place for a meal. Really good seafood chowder and the fish platter was excellent. All washed down by a pint of Guinness - what more do you want? A great lunch and well worth a visit.

We walked along the coastal path on the Lecale Way from Killard towards Ardglass. It took about two hours 30 minutes to get to Chapeltown, just in time for lunch. It was Monday and there were few other diners and we were made welcome and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere.

The place was packed and we waited for a suitable table so we all chilled and had drinks at the superb bar with a fantastic selection of beers and wines .We all had steaks with all the trimmings and it was first class . The staff can't do enough for you always very attentive to every or any need .. with such a busy place our meals lived up to the famous Currans hospitality . You can please some people sometimes but you can't please all the people all the time !! Well you guys definitely done that. Everyone around us all seemed really impressed , so we will all be back soon .. keep up the great work guys ..#Currans .

Called on the off chance, thinking we mightn't be able to get in as it had been so busy the last few we had been which a number of years ago. We were the only ones there for most of the meal, another 2 tables came later. Bar seemed busy but no atmosphere in restaurant. I had the cod which was v good but another of our party had chicken goujons . These were far from homemade , def cheap frozen version. Overall it was expensive for the what we got and v disappointing considering the quality that used to be served.

We visited here a few weeks ago, pre- booked for the Sunday carvery (6 of us), we arrived in good time but our table wasn't ready, we had to wait for about 30 minutes. When we finally got seated the waiter told us there was only pork left on the Carvery, some creamed potatoes and some veg. One of our party said she didn't eat pork so could she just have a pan fried chicken breast and she would just take the potatoes/veg from the Carvery. 2 minutes later the waiter said that the chef could put on some turkey for us but only had enough for about 2-3 people. We agreed and we told the waiter not to bother with the chicken and some would take pork, the others would take turkey. The meal itself was just average, potatoes had been sitting a while and the veg has been out too long too, it was certainly hot but there was just no choice, it was all gone. The pork was chewy and the turkey was just ok. Whilst having deserts another waiter set down a pan fried chicken breast and all the trimmings – which we cancelled when the pervious waiter told us the chef could put out some turkey – so it was returned and we explained that this was previously cancelled by the other waiter. When the bill arrived they had charged us for the pan fried chicken breast dinner. This was the first time we visited Currans and we done so on hearing how great it was. I understand it was busy but we did specify on making the booking that we wanted to have the carvery, the waiter did suggested we order from the main menu but we went there for a Sunday roast dinner. On paying they did remove the pan fried chicken from the bill but we paid the full carvery price for a very sub-standard dinner, with a real deal-to-do just to get it. I don’t think I would go back there, we weren’t offered any discount and the guy on the till said he was sorry for the wait at the start and not having any food, never offered to reduce the bill in any way! We aren’t ones for complaining and this visit certainly warranted a complaint but we didn’t want to make a fuss and we needed to get home as we’d been there so long with all the hold-ups.

This restaurant was recommended by the guest house where we were staying. The atmosphere was warm and friendly and the food was very good quality. We had an odd combination of the mussels for starter - they were excellent - and we had a curry as the main course - again excellent. What really impressed us was that we were given a voucher at the guest house and mentioned this when ordering. When we went to pay we had forgotten about the voucher but the staff hadn't - and hey asked for it so they could reduce the bill - wow!

Visited Tuesday 30th May 2017. This is a pleasant place with a lovely homely atmosphere, just outside the village of Ardglass. The food was good quality. I had the mussels for starter and a steak for main. The steak was excellent in taste and tenderness. My partner had Chowder and Pasta. We both left completely stuffed and completely satisfied with what we had. Will visit again when in the area.

Called in while touring around. Cute character bar with wood burner. Attentive staff served a delicious seafood chowder, plenty of fish and what was described as small was plenty.

I've eaten here on a number of occasions over the past 5 years but was too dissappointed last time (Feb 2017) to return again. Our side orders were cold but we were very hungry and it was a celebration party with guests that didn't like to complain so we let it go. The staff are lovely and the place has a nice atmosphere but the food is just too expensive for the quality that is produced and not everything on the menu is 'fresh'.

Great service, good food, I'd advise having steak as this seems to be their speciality. The restaurant is fantastic for families with an outside play area and cosy, welcoming interior.

We had family visiting from Canada and booked Copper for 9 June 2022, it was a fabulous meal from start to finish. Service was excellent and so cheerful. Steak & lobster surf & turf outstanding, in fact all the meal was for all 8 of us. Highly recommend and we will definitely be back

Can’t say enough about this fantastic little gem. Dined here a few weeks ago with friends and had a wonderful whole Dover sole, cooked to perfection. We decided that we would like to come back and try one of Roy’s tasting menus and we were not disappointed. We had six totally delicious Indian themed courses each one cooked authentically and to perfection and served in a really creative way. The service was excellent with just enough time in between to enjoy each course. Roy, who does all the cooking to order, is really passionate about his restaurant and his choice of menus ,and Julie , front of house is so welcoming and friendly , they do make a great team. Unfortunately I don’t have any photos of our food as I was focused solely on savouring the meal. Thanks to Roy and Julie for a really lovely evening.
