Good food, service & atmosphere

Experience was different from what we were told when booked. Stated we didn't want overpriced table d'hote menu. Staff acknowledged this but did nothing.

Lovely evening for a birthday celebration, great food and customer service.

Visiting from Canada and was given White Horse as a recommendation. The atmosphere here is excellent, the service is outstanding and the staff are friendly and courteous. The food was way above standard. Absolutely outstanding all around . If you are visiting Saintfield this is a must!!!

A last minute decision to go out for Sunday lunch. Mt hubby had the turkey and ham which he enjoyed. I had the stuffed lamb which melted in your mouth. A good selection of vegetables, a very popular place for a Sunday lunch. Reasonably priced and very pleasant staff. Will be back.

18th Birthday meal 15th February & it was 1 disaster after another! Not welcomed for 5+ minutes, 30 minutes to serve a drink, 90 minutes for starter to be served, with what looked like yesterday’s salad on the plate, a further 40 minutes for mains & 2 meals didn’t arrive until the rest of the party had ate there’s! No vinegar in a gastropub, spoon for seafood chowder requested twice but didn’t arrive till the end of the meal. Waited 30 minutes for the birthday cake which never arrived! The excuse was they were busy! Will not be back, not worth the nearly £300 bill!

Called in with no reservation. The two of us were fortunate enough to get a table as they were quite busy. No complaints at all. We will definitely be back.

A group of 4 of us went for a late lunch last Sunday. From the start we were ignored by a girl at the desk for some time, then got seated took ages for our drinks order which included 2 ' large' glasses of wine. I would hate to have seen a small glass. 2 meals of scampi and 1 turkey dinner and a deep fried brie were ordered. Thebrie wasnt cooked enough.it didn't ooze, it was 3 tiny bits and 3 tiny dots of sauce and a pile of shredded lettuce. The condiments for the other meals eventually arrived when the meal was half eaten. The turkey dinner was like a dogs dinner with frozen veg.the scampi was overcooked. No apologies from staff!!! Customer service leaves alot to be desired. I will also add it wasn't that busy . Safe to say we will not be back.

Definitely not as good as it use to be! Bang bang chicken and their 'famous curry' is definitely not the same as it was some years ago but I understand the chef changed, which is often what happens. It's great as the local pub but the restaurant has gone downhill in my opinion

I've never had a bad experience at the White Horse, the food is always incredible, the atmosphere is amazing and the staff are friendly and welcoming. I want to give a special shoutout to Shawn who has served my family and I on several occasions and is always happy to see us and welcomes you into the place like a family member who's come to stay for dinner. Truly one of the best places to eat in Northern Ireland for my money.

Just had dinner tonight .....staff friendly and helpful, food plentiful and very tasty. Will definitely be back again very soon. Highly recommended.

Best cream of veg soup ever. Portions great, service great, staff plesent, engaging and friendly, chocolate ice cream went down a treat with my grandchildren. We shall be returning very soon. Thank you to the 2 great girls working last Friday. 2.30pm.

Fab place, booking isn't always needed but better if you want a booth. Food excellent!

Called in for lunch, fish and beef burger with chunky chips. Food was fantastic and well priced. The goats cheese was delicious! Very attentive and well-mannered staff. Lovely relaxed atmosphere with fire burning. Will definitely return and recommend. Note: might be advisable to ring and book even for lunch as it was busy enough today (Tuesday).

For a great.lunch, this is the place to go. We are both gluten free plus other requirements and the waiting staff and chef are blessed with endless patience and a real desire to please. Apart from that, the food is delicious and the service first class. Handy little car park at the rear but there is parking on the street, although I dont know if it is time limited. Thank you White Horse, you never fail to deliver

Sunday dinner was amazing, roast beef was melt in the mouth. Roast potatoes and mash was some of the best Ive had in while.

My two brothers and I had meals on two different days within a week and on both occasions the food, drinks, service and ambience was superb. We have visited the town nearly every year for the past number of years and have always found the WHI a great restaurant. We thoroughly recommend it 👍

Fabulous chowder to start & husbands main course equally as good unfortunately my scampi was mainly just lumps of really greasy batter with a side salad that had gone brown, waiting staff really apologetic & attentive but message from the kitchen was that it was perfectly fine. Disappointing as always like to stop here & have recommended it to others

Had a lovely family meal in this restaurant, we hadn’t booked as it was during the week but it was very busy and we just managed to get a table. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Service was good and the food was cooked perfect and plentiful. Will definitely return and highly recommend.

1st visit here and definitely go back if back home again. Portions are great, service is very good and we all loved it.

Proper country pub with first class food and service.

Second time there food was great the ultimate burger and thick fries beat me , that doesn’t happen to often. Our waitress was wonderful as were the others however Paula was fun joking with us and made the evening more fun with her humour. For sure will be there again next time in the country. Thanks Paula . 👊😎 PS I let on it was the big boy sauce that beat me but it was the helpings.

We have visited this establishment many times over the years on our trips over from England to see friends. It never disappoints and if anything the food and service gets better each time we come. We wish we had somewhere like this on our doorstep .I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Called in at 5.30 on a Friday night and they managed to get a table for 4 of us despite being very busy. We needed to order and eat in an hour and a quarter roughly as the table had a booking but service and food were prompt and the food was great. Really good price too. Would definitely go back if we're ever in this area again.

Lovely little place, we were passing through and as it was early we thought we'd take a chance. The staff were very welcoming and friendly making us all feel very comfortable. There were great options and we had a fantastic meal very reasonably priced. We'll be back as in addition to the bistro there's also a pizza restaurant and I'd like to give it a try

Family dinner on a Sunday night, Roast beef was extremely tough , you would think a good chief would be able to cook a Sunday Roast, also sirloin steak was very fatty, not a good steak for the price of it, a fillet steak would be better quality. The service was very good tho.. over all.. Food needs to be better… To many People don’t complain they just eat and go, and paying these prices for food it should be good quality and cooked to perfection…

Went to go here on Friday evening for a nice meal. when we turned up there was a very unwelcoming sign on the front door saying "regulars only" so we just got back in the car and went elsewhere.

This establishmemt discriminates on the basis of religion. Should be boycotted. Junior orange kids and their families refused entry TWICE. This is ILLEGAL.

What a lovely spot. Firstly, the staff were fantastic, everyone to a person was brilliant - we popped in on the way through Saintfield and would come back just to come in here!

We found the soup slightly sadly and the meringue not very crisp apart from that the meals were very nice during the evening they ran out of diet Coke and the cocktail special they had on offer

The worst meals that we've had in ages. I ordered the slow cooked beef to start with and it was the driest thing I've ever put in my mouth (yes, even drier than that time I tried to eat three Jacobs crackers at once while drunk as a student). It had clearly been slow cooked but then left to sit uncovered and then microwaved when needed. I then ordered the same roast beef as my wife and everything on the plate was overcooked they may have set a world record for the length of time the veg was boiled. I'll never go back.

Service was terribly slow, our starters were completely forgotten about until we mentioned to the waitress when our mains came out. Put in a corner table and forgotten about the majority of the meal and not checked on after served, majority of the food was lovely but the service brings it down.

Service mhhh... dann vermisse ich gerade.. sitzt man in einer ungünstigen Ecke.. wird man glatt.übersehen.. und liebe freunde des Service.. ich bin keiner der 20 Minuten braucht um ein essen auszuwählen. Wäre toll, wenn man nach 5 minuten jemand fragt ob ich überhaupt was möchte. Man könnte doch mal fragen ob man ein Getränk haben will, sowas habe icj schon mal erlebt als ich in einem Restaurant war.

Very disappointed, went with eight other members of my family. Three ordered scampi and all orders were overcooked to the point that some pieces were unedible as they were so crispy and hard, couldn't even taste a hint of prawn. Four ordered the sizzling chicken which was OK but it did say on the menu it was served with onions and mushrooms which seemed non existent on the platters. I think I might have got one quarter of a whole mushroom on mine! The final two orders were for fish and chips and to be honest that turned out to be the best choice, they were enjoyed. The bill came to approx £240, when my friend went and paid it she asked the waitress to add £20 as a tip, she did as asked but there was not even an acknowledgement of thanks given. I would certainly not recommend The White Horse to others from our personal experience.

Food was excellent,but 40 minute wait after ordering for food to arrive after asking how much longer it would take to be served.

Went with my partner for dinner. I ordered 10 oz sirloin steak and my wife chose the prawn open. My steak was the worst I have ever been served. The server brought me a steak knife. When I couldn't cut the steak and brought this to the attention of the server he said it was a bad knife and brought me another one. In his presence I showed him that I could still not cut it. It was impossible to chew. He offered to replace it but it would be 20 - 30 minutes. Told him not to bother. The prawn open was tasteless especially the sauce. It was set on a big thick slice of hard wheaten bread. Again awful. We decided to order sweets anyway. My Sticky toffee pudding was a chocolate bun with a watery sauce over it and ice cream. Certainly not a Butterscotch sauce!! My wife had the chocolate brownie which was so hard that I could not cut it even with the blunt steak knife!! It would appear to have been over cooked in a microwave. NEVER be back. Totally spoiled the evening.

We had a great time at White Horse. It was busy so we needed the reservation we made. We had the fried Brie as a starter, I the the prawn pepper sizzler and we shared the cheesecake. Good fare, fun and good value

Food was quite good but need to hold back on the leeks in the chowder. Bang bang chicken was delicious. New staff need better training as any questions asked were were just told he didn't know...it was his second day and walked away???

This place is anti Protestant and while it is welcoming to GAA supporters in their club colours, it refuses to serve people in band uniforms. People should give it a wide berth. No point in promoting a place which is sectarian.

I took my mother out for dinner on Thursday night which as we walked in the atmosphere was very busy for A Thursday night! Made it aware to the staff we hadn't booked a table! Luckily they could give us a table well wer we lucky? NO! Waitress comes to take the order as we wer ordering she practically put words into our mouths which was probably better than the food tasted !! Food comes which I ordered a starter king prawn bland basically king prawns with tomato sauce and mayo drizzled 🤪 then on to the main course as it came down I had to request another knife and fork which it seemd to be a problem from the waitress as she mumbled I took the special bang bang chicken haha there was definitely no bang out of the chicken it came to me served with spring onion sprinkled over it to hide the gloop of sauce which looked like and tasted of gravy that had been made that morning and reheated and left again battered bits of chicken hard not even crispy and for my mums steak sandwich well it was a steak un sliced in-between a panini which was rock hard non chrisp but the steak was totally full of hard fat from start to finish not once wer we asked if everything was OK.they have zero respect for the people that comes in to them for a meal that helps pays there wages

Very poor experience today. One of our group was served fish thst was completely off!!!! Staff did offer to replace the meal with something else but really it ruined our dining experience. No discounts or complimentary drinks to compensate for their poor performance

Called in today without booking this was no problem at all for a family of 5 food was amazing and one of the nicest pints of harp I have had thanks guys looking forward to trying out the Sunday roasts very soon very family friendly and fantastic place

Took my friend for a birthday lunch today. Such a lovely place. Toilets were spotlessly clean. The restaurant was cosy and comfortable. Loads of space between tables and a good atmosphere. Have a large menu to choose from. The portions are massive . We had lovely food and the staff were very pleasant and checked in with us throughout the time we were there. Will definitely go again. Great value for money. Keep up the great work.

Awful experience, 50 minutes after placing our order the waiter came and asked if we wanted anything else . I told him we were still waiting to be served and after a few minutes he came back and said the computer hadn’t sent the order...

Horrible experience with this place, sat like an idiot with my partner for nearly an hour after placing our order only to be told, after asking where our food was, the computer didn’t send the order to the kitchen.

Food was great, portions were huge, staff very pleasant. Good night was had by all.

Great spot. Stopped in on the off chance as we hadn't booked, staff where more than happy to accommodate the 2 of us. The service was prompt, polite and very friendly. Food was real good and not too expensive either. Will definitely be back and would recommend a visit.

Love this place. It's the only decent bar restaurant in town but they pull out all the stop anyway. Good food, excellent selection of drinks and very friendly staff.

Lovely atmosphere and fantastic food! Every visit the service has been top notch. Had a bit of a mix up with the order on the most recent visit, but it was human error and the staff were incredible at handling everything. Couldn’t rate any higher🌟 Will definitely be back 👍🏻

Uset to love this place, always did since my 1st meal around 15years ago. Highly recommended. Just isn't the same as it was tho. Young server's are easily confused at times so put your order in to the letter when dining in. Especially if your ordering extras. They Work best when the main manager's (who are always easy to get on with, shout out to Robin) are about but food is always top notch, a bit expensive but always has been. Worth it tho in my opinion.

nice waiting staff and good location. The burgers we ordered were burnt stupid though. Dry hard overdone meat and cheese burnt at the edges. Obviously under the lamps for too long. Sauce was missing and wrong fries although we able to swap between us. Times are tight and folk can't afford to spend money on poor food. Hopefully things will improve.

Lovely staff, squeezed us in on Christmas Eve even though we didn't have a booking and they were really booked up. Food was fantastic and the pub itself is lovely. Real rustic feel to it and lovely decor. Would definitely visit again!

Super friendly staff. Loads of options for everyone and great prices. We went here for our work Christmas dinner and there was something for everyone. I was the only vegan but I still have loads of options and even desert options as well. I was super happy and the food was delicious
