Great bar at the end of the promenade. Perfect for a hot or cold drink after a walk. Freddie my dog loves the huge warming fire plus the warm welcome!

Visited here as had vouchers to spend. Just glad we hadn't had to pay for the meal. The only decent item was the wheaten bread served with the soup. Brisket 'parcels ', flavourless and dry. Main 1 was sirloin - not cheap - asked for medium but wasn't properly seared so raw and also unseasoned. Chips were reasonable but not crispy. Plate overloaded with onion rings, coleslaw, wilted greens, strange garlic half tomato. Main 2 was fish and chips, huge portion of battered fish - crispy at either end but soggy throughout. Clearly shop bought tartar sauce. Peas were edible. Our voucher was £100 and we actually left having used only £80 of the vouchers as we couldn't stomach dessert(drinks were not included in the vouchers). So a very expensive and unfortunately poor evening spent in Newcastle. Will NEVER return to this bar / restaurant. All of our plates were collected barely eaten but unquestioned. Avoid if you can.

Service was horrendous. Ordered food but it was served with no knives and forks. We requested them twice along with ketchup however the staff never did follow through and deliver them to us. Similar experience at the bar.... Went to order a pint and the workers were too busy chatting. They saw me waiting but didn't come to serve me until they finished having a flirt with each other. Based on the experience, I don't think I'll be back.

Went tonight and staff pleasant but service slow. 2 of us ordered prawn open sandwiches. It was the worst I've ever had. Just lettuce prawns, wheaten and small amount of marie rose sauce. £18. Normally it would be a proper salad with coleslaw, pineapple, egg, etc. When I complained no one interested. Very disappointing

The service is excellent. George is the one I have to give him a praise. He have good smile, funny and polite. The Irish coffee is nice, I love it. Food is Okay. Called in for a pub lunch with my Springer Spaniel on Friday 20th September 2024, even though it's dog friendly I chose to sit outside the front, very friendly staff & helpful, got the Steak Sandwich which was very tasty, slightly expensive but I guess most places are nowadays, Myself & the Doggo 🐶 loved chilling & she loved the attention for 2 friendly guys having a beer 🍺, would definitely go back & try something different on the menu the next time I'm in Newcastle . Well I've been back twice since the above review, tried the Chicken Stack & then I tried the Haddock & Chips with mushy peas & salad .. I have to admit that the Fish & Chips has been my favourite so far, all the staff are soo friendly & always make my dog Carra so welcome. So my dog & myself back in Newcastle December 2nd & went into O'Hares for lunch as usual, tried the Roast of the Day, Turkey & Ham with all the trimming, excellent food again & always made to feel welcome, Carra the Springer Spaniel spoilt again 🐶♥️

Called in for a meal and a drink. Didn't realise the place would be wall to wall dogs, some lying on the chairs and owners with feet up on chairs too. The place is pretty scruffy so we decided against the meal. Average tasting pint of Guinness was £5.90 and a bottle of diet Pepsi was £3.40, so pricey too. My partner has a dog and said she wouldn't be back, and I have to second that opinion.

Lovely pub. Horrifically expensive drinks Came down from Belfast for a few days. Sampled some local pubs. Expected prices to be comparable. But this one took the biscuit- despite being a lovely bar, charging £5 more then even the Mariner for the same round was ludicrous. And this was also more expensive round than the same round in Belfast city centre.

Dreadful experience! As I live locally and had good food in O'Hares in the past, I went with a party of 11 family and friends who were visiting from England and America. Big mistake! Area where our tables were set up was very dark with a lot of flies flying around us. The chair I sat on was unstable so had to get myself another chair. Not good when you are a 75 year old pensioner. When the food finally arrived it was set down in the most ungracious manner. I had haddock and chips. Good sized portion of fish very nicely cooked in a light batter The mushy peas were in a little paper container which disintegrated when I tried to extract the peas, turning into a pea/paper inedible mush! No staff member came to check if all was ok. When we finished this main course we waited and waited and waited for someone to come and clear the table and take orders for dessert/coffee/drinks. eventually my sister inlaw cleared some of the plates onto an empty table behind us. The only staff we could see were in the main bar a good bit away from us either talking to each other or serving bar customers whilst we were completely ignored . I like to support local business were I can but sadly I will not be back to O'Hares in the near future nor will I recommend it to anyone else.

I was in O'Hares in Newcastle tuesday 13th of August with some family members and I found the young barman to be the most miserable person to have ever served me. No acknowledgment or hello/welcome when I approached the bar, everything seemed an effort for him and when the time came for payment he just held out the card machine without even asking if I wanted to pay by card or not. As soon as the machine beeped for payment accepted he just turned away from me without a word. I don't expect bar staff to be dancing about behind the counter singing 'o what a beautiful morning' but a bit of acknowledgment and please/thankyou wouldn't go amiss.

We have been to O'Hares before and to be honest, the service and food have been on the decline for some time. We were a party of 4 and went in for lunch on Tuesday 6th August 2024. We finally got seated once the collection of staff at the bar decoded to stop chatting and do some work!! We ordered our lunches and waited a long while before the food arrived. 2 of our party had Steak sandwich with chips, my wife had Haddock and chips and I have the chicken stack with chips. One of the steaks was cooked to order, one was very undercooked, the fish was soggy with cooking oil and my "chicken breast was like wood to cut through. It was unbelievably tough!! Everyone was complaining about the terrible overcooked chips but we all tried to work with what we had. My chicken was uneatable at best. I constantly tried to get the attention of a waiter/waitress but the jovial fun at the bar had all of their attention. eventually one looked round and seen my hand up. She came over and I politely advised her that the chicken was impossible to eat and the chips were not much better. She offered to replace the meal but I didn't want to wait while all others were finished. I asked if the kitchen could comment on the chicken as I felt they needed to respond. ....When I went to bit the bill at the bar, the same crew were still in jovial chat. I asked if the kitchen had seen the chicken and was told with a smirk that they are reviewing the cooking time as it was very overcooked. I got my bill which was £101 for 4 terrible lunched were most of it was not eaten so asked if the chicken was at least taken off the bill and was bluntly told No with a laugh. The other staff thought it very funny! I paid the bill and said I would leave an appropriate review and they just thought if funny!! A bunch of uninterested people who know that people will still come in and buy this terrible food and pay these stupid prices. Really disgusted with the food and the treatment by these idiots and the lies from the kitchen!! Buyer beware, There are better places to eat and we will be using them and never set foot in this place again. As a footnote, went to the toilets and they were full and disgusting! They don't even clean the facilities!! This place should be closed down on health grounds....

Went here for dinner and a drink. Food was just ok but was overpriced for what it was. Service was awful. We waited 25 minutes before order was taken. We were sat at a dirty table. We then waited another 30 minutes for some of our food to arrive. 2 meals were not brought down when we asked a waitress she said you no we are very busy which made us feel like we shouldn't have even been there but they could have told us to go elsewhere if we were such a bother. Another waitress rolled her eyes when we said one of the orders was wrong. All in all the staffs attitude completely put us off especially the girl with dark hair who then slammed the plates in front of us. And the total bill was 180 pound for 8 dinners and 8 drinks... staff need more training on customer service as the place wasn't even full and they wernt uncharge of sections just seemed like they were all over the place

Terrible experience tonight. Ordered 7 mains and only 6 came out. I waited 5 minutes and then informed the bar that we were still waiting for another main. The guy at the bar didn't really say anything but made a phone call (presumably to the kitchen). 20 minutes later and the missing main was still not there...no body came over to advise what was happening or to even apologise. We didn't know what was happening. I went back up to ask for the manager and he never came. 10 minutes later the server who took our order came over to apologise and offer to take the missing main off of the bill?? (Why would we pay for something we didn't get?? Of course it would be taken off the bill). The missing main never arrived. Another 15 mins later, we had to ask for the bill. I again asked who the manager was and was told he was away home. I will never be back here as the service was terrible. Went for a family meal for christmas. We were told to wait and then taken to a christmas party room that we hadn’t booked for. Then we were taken back into the bar and told to pick seats in the bar for a meal for 9 people. We then asked to be moved into the restaurant and were moved into a cold empty restaurant with no one else. We then were rushed to order our food because they took that long to seat us that the kitchen was closing. We ordered food with a bill of £170 but some of the things we had ordered never came. We then brought these issues up to the waiter and were told that we could not talk to the manager because he was too busy. We finally talked to the manager who was at the bar drinking and got the price lowered but they were still trying to charge us for the food we never received. We told the waiter this and he said “if you don’t pay for this it will come out of my salary” when one of the party member said that that was illegal and she would be reporting it he then turned on his words and took the price of the things we never received off the bill. Overall the service wasn’t great and neither was the food or the experience in general. Won’t be back.

We've been in Newcastle for the weekend, this pub is lovely and all, but one, of the serving staff brilliant. My sister in law has big mobility issues and loved sitting near the roaring fire, but when she asked for food, was told she had to go to the restaurant, which for someone with mobility issues isn't easy. I was away hiking and when I returned, I asked for food, this lady said to me, do you have a dog! I replied no, so she stated I would have to go to the restaurant, I couldn't eat in bar, if no dog. We spoke to another lovely girl, who brought me my food and couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. İt was also noted that other customers were eating with no dog. The waitress in question seems to have attitude issues, a lady with brightly coloured hair. I hope the management will take note of this. Apart from this, perfect place!

Dog friendly bar in the centre of town. They served a lovely pint of Guinness and had lots of TV screens showing Sky Sports, so it was a great place to spend a Sunday afternoon watching the match. Nice food, quick service. Top class place.

Loved this place. The service was amazing, they were lovely to my dog providing water and treats for her. The food was very tasty too.

Food was great but the drink is too expensive. £11.70 for a pint of Harp and a glass of wine! Also, there was a large dog in the bar with a customer, sitting on the seat next to people eating! Not for me 🤮.

The food was absolutely amazing and the inside so fun and cozy. The music they played I really loved being that they were playing 60s music that I knew! If visiting from the states definitely recommend this place.

Very disappointing.Had a takeaway from here tonight to celebrate a birthday. Restaurant recommended by many acquaintances, not sure why. Spring rolls were solid bean shoots and not much else. Very unpleasant taste. The ribs were dry, no real sauce, very little meat on them. Prawn toast(we think, could have been wontons) tasted like pork scratchings with an unpleasant fishy filling. The chicken satay consisted of one massive bit of chicken fillet stuck on a stick. Again very dry in the middle. No evidence of it being marinated.Peanut sauce watery and hardly any flavour of peanuts. Main courses were a little better although the beef tasted revolting - recooked and did not taste fresh. Sweet and sour, ok but rather synthetic and so mild could hardly tell it was sweet and sour. Definitely would not recommend unless you like very anglicised Chinese food with little flavour. I have worked in a Chinese restaurant in England. They would be embarrassed to serve up food like this. I suppose I am spoilt by living in London for many years where you can get authentic Chinese food. This reminded me of Chinese food in England in the 1970s/80s. Only thing missing was lashes of gravy. Trying Saintfield next time. Only came here because it was open on a Monday. The management should be ashamed to be Chinese.
