Dined in, got food poisoning, spent all night in bathroom!

Great unexpected experience… we’d sail din not knowing If there would be anywhere open… this place was fantastic.. staff made all the difference for not outstanding but well worth the money…. I’d highly recommend it!

Great takeaway food. Edit: We've been using East Essence for about 2 years and been very impressed by their food and quality. However recently they've stopped taking card payments. I only use card and haven't used cash in about 5 years. I really don't understand why they'd remove a modern and convenient payment method and force me to go a mile away to get old-fashioned cash. There are other Chinese restaurants nearby who take cards, so I guess I'll be using these from now on.

4 of us came here and sat in. The food was great. I would go back. We got a main each with some sides. The staff are nice

We stumbled across this restaurant on a rainy evening. The menu is very varied and the dishes served are very generous and good. The service is fast and efficient.

I always get a very satisfactory meal here many a weekend. And the staff are very good. Good lay out too.

Had a takeaway from here when on holiday. Good food - the noodles were a particukar highlight. The chip portion was small and it was pricey in comparison to other places.

No atmosphere. Food is good. Bright lights . No candles. No music. Staff hoovering carpet while people ate. Maybe get a takeout instead of dining in

After reading reviews & looking at menu, was really looking forward to visiting this restaurant .. I'm struggling to say anything positive. The service was slow and a "couldn't be bothered" attitude was evident. The waitresses spent more time talking with a pal who was dining rather than work. No complimentary prawn crackers served. Main complaint was the meal was not hot, clearly it had been sitting waiting on waitress serving. The honey & chilli king prawns were swimming in watery red juice and the beef scheshwan was gluggy and plasticky, not spicy like I enjoy it .. No "how was your meal" I do not recommend this establishment and will never be back. Don't go!

Had a takeaway from this restaurant and it was amazing. Would highly recommend if you are in the area. The chicken curry is amazing and big portions as well.

Omg after reading some of the negative reviews we very nearly didn’t visit this restaurant.. but LUCKILY we chanced a visit and WOW… Food = AWESOME, STAFF = AMAZING, SERVICE = FAULTLESS & HAPPY/SMILEY….. Thank goodness we went there!! Please realise when reading the negative reviews that some people are simply out to find fault and enjoy complaining!! You place order, pick up food, get home...all good until you open the bag and all that you ordered is not there. Telephone call to East Essence ...don't bother...." sorry, kitchen fault....mention it next time when you order" I have this 3 stars as food very good.

Joke of a place Heard many good reviews about this restaurant from a local holiday home and for my Love of Chinese foods, I decided to give this try with the family yesterday evening during my stay.. I rang in for an order and was greeted by an unprofessional manner, I felt I was being rush by the gentleman on the phone and without a chance to confirm what I wanted in my order I was cut short with the phone call with a short “bye” (and my order turn up wrong) Upon my arrival to the restaurant collecting my food I was left to stand for 5 minutes with 3 staff members behind the bar, without greeting or a pleasant “hello/good evening” I was being ignored by a guy who was off the phone, (I assumed is was the staff member who took my order over the phone before arrival) and another 2 girls who noticed my arrival but didn’t come to serve me but quickly go back on their phones. Then I was greeted with a loud “yes” from the guy behind the bar I told him what my order was and was hand over the food and money was requested there was no thank you or goodbye before my departure. However the food is delicious and the decor of the restaurant seem lovely, I can see a real good potential of the business itself, but unfortunately this kind of service can simply turn any customers away

This used to be our favourite spot to come and eat but came out this evening and a young girl showed us to our table, sat the menus down and left, another server came down and took our drinks order she left and the first young girl came down to where we were sitting very rudely said "yous ready to order?" we had just literally opened the menu, she left a d came back down saying "here's your cutlery" threw on the table and walked away, our food came and was sat abruptly in front of us and the same server said"us that all? " pork was over cooked oand tasteless, we've been coming here for ages but I don't think I'll be back as manners cost nothing and someone needs to teach that young girl some manners... Absolutely no call for rudeness!!!

Will never order or recommend this so called restaurant . Food over priced and not eatable. Never had such a bad food experience in my lifetime. Special Chow mein. No king prawn no beef. Pork like leather and flavourless. The only good thing was the fried egg.

Food excellent, service 1st class. Restaurant been revamped which is very nice but the only thing missing was just a bit of soft background music which would have filled the empty atmosphere. Many thanks, beautiful meal.

The guy who serves is so unfriendly and unwelcoming. Only my son likes this place I wouldn't be driving the 6/8 miles to get there. Manners costs nothing. Smiles cost even less. Have also noticed that chip portions are very small.

Had been before but this time we took the whole family (5 adults and my grandson). Food and service where excellent thank you.

First time here and will definitely be back. The staff were friendly and very attentive and engaging with us. The food was amazing. My husband and I both had the dry fried chicken with honey chilli sauce, one with boiled rice and 1 with noodles. Beautiful

Went here last night for celebration meal with husband and daughter - i ordered sizzling sirloin and was told they had run out of sirloins - unusual - so i opted for fillet steak which is more expensive being tender and lean - ordered beer and cokes but had to call the waiter back as we had been given tins of coke with no glasses!! - were we expected to drink out of tins - my fillet steak was very tough and stringy but being a celebration i felt it would have created an atmosphere by complaining so we have a very lucky dog who feasted on my inedible fillet steak !! As a result i have been completely disappointed with the quality of the food here as my meal alone was £21.95 which the dog ended up enjoying - i have been here a few times and its usually very good but i wonder if having no sirloins - again unusual as would be very popular - and possibly finding a spare fillet lying around somewhere ended up as my meal - east essence has my mobile number so perhaps they would care to comment??

Very good food very small portions and too expensive ....4 meals 1 portion curry sauce 1 portion noodles £41.70....including delivery to caravan park....never again

Living in Asia, its always nice to get some Asian food after days and days of English breakfasts. We had three dishes and all were lovely and the Tofu was some of the best we have tasted in the UK!!

Just ordered Char Siu pork.Very disappointed. What I got was not Char Siu pork. Just small bits of pork that was stir fried and not marinated. Poor quality.

If it was possible to give this place no stars I would. Just ordered a beef sausage supper and a ham fried rice. The chips tasted like burnt paper and the ham fried rice was that badly cremated it was uneatable. The chips were that bad even the dog wouldn't eat them. Complete waste of money. Will not be eating out of there ever again!!

ordered dinner for the family for delivery, once it arrived we realised it was wrong so we rang to rectify and get the missing items delivered, they agreed, then rang back to say we would have to pay for the missing items and redelivery. I refuse to pay on grounds that they took the order down wrong and thus I am not paying redelivery for their mistakes. Will not be back

We'd been recommended this place by a local family and I must say the food was delicious. The only issue being that they got the order wrong, rice rather than chips. Would definitely go back and would recommend.

This is a little gem of a Chinese.Food was amazing and well priced. Been 3 times now while visiting on business and can’t wait to go back again. Don’t hesitate to eat in or order take away.

Midweek, this place was fairly busy. For a really quiet town, in mid winter, I was surprised at the number of people dining ! I had the earlybird special .... dinner, desert and a drink for about 10 quid ... very good value. Cheerful waiter, the restaurant had a nice atmosphere.

Was in again on new years day evening. It was another great meal. Never have been disappointed here. Can't wait to come back. Staff are always pleasant. Great service and warm pleasant surrounding. Happy new Year to everyone at the golden elephant.
