Cup of Joe in Brighton and Hove

I’m so sorry but this has to be the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. We came for breakfast. Four of us. We waited ages to be served, we waited ages for our coffees. The cook was on the phone trying to sort out online payment while we waited for our 2 full English breakfast £10 each and 2 full vegan breakfast £9 each. OMG I have never been served anything like it. To get a cold breakfast that was burnt to black after our coffee’s had gone cold was an experience that I couldn’t process. We just needed to go. I’m not sure what I felt but I couldn’t even begin to find words. I shut my mouth and paid the £51 bill and hoped that somehow life would give me something back. I gave a £2 tip to the young person who waited on us (slowly) but never any blame cast to him. A man who worked alongside in the antique/thrift area ended up bringing our food (no hand-washing at all) I’m a tad concerned about food safety. The bacon was black, seriously. Never again and it’s our local. On the upside, I won £30 on a slot machine later on and felt that it evened my heart. Please look at the food you serve. Customers deserve so much more. I’m sorry but the truth be told.🙁

Have only ever been for breakfast, maybe 4 or 5 times. Love the mood in here, feels very local, quirky and authentic/honest. Staff always very young which is fine but inexperienced which can lead to confusion or delays. Food is super affordable, and they accommodate my need for gluten free, however it often looks and tastes expired. Recently my tomatos and my mushrooms tasted verrrry strange - the friends I was with said the same about theirs, and I had to leave some of my bacon which was an odd blue colour

There is a regular customer that visits daily with a disgusting, hacking, flemmy cough which puts anyone off from eating here. I feel sorry for the poor residents that have to put up with it on a daily basis. Slow service. Awful atmosphere as stated.

We come here regularly for breakfast. I love especially the authentic French croissants and pain-grillé. Yum. Merci George :)

Unique and quirky little place where you can buy collectibles, or rent a cabinet to sell items yourself. The dining area is nice and both the food and coffee is good of quality and fine flavour. The staff are pleasant, especially the proprietor George, who will tend to your needs and requirements. Enjoy!!!

I had breakfast this morning. Staff is amazing. I had omelette and it was delicious. Great atmosphere. I made the best decision of my day.

This is probably the best place in Brighton and definitely the best in Kemptown. I love it! The food is awesome. Caesar salad and goat cheese sandwich are my favourites. The service is topnotch – personal, warm and welcoming. If you want to have some good time and food – go there. It had it all.

Lovely venue. Quite compact. The staff were lovely and the food was delicious. Quick service and we're extremely helpful. Thanks for a great breakfast.

Despite not being busy, having waited 40 minutes just for eggs, had to extend parking for an extra hour. Gave up and had to leave, paid for two coffees plus parking, hungry to point of feeling faint. Friendly service completely let down by lack of food, apology given but told cook was on verge of cooking our food, shouldn't neec prompting. For menu prices i expected better.

When we popped in for a cup of tea, we were warmly greated by the owner, a very polite French gentleman, the cafe is unique with its own little style, the building looked to be split in two, one side was a cafe, the other side a shop of selling allsorts, staff very polite and reasonably priced would highly recommend

Great little cafe as part of a set of boutiques selling vintage clothing and antique bits and pieces. Do a good selection of breakfasts for a Sunday morning and have good pleasant service.

Absolutely 5 stars place for brunch. I love the atmosphere of the cafe. The staffs are very friendly and helpful. The foods are amazing with a lot of variety and the coffee is very lovely! Definitely recommended place.

Quaint little cafe service good food was lovely.

Quirky café à la Francaise tucked away in deepest Kemptown encompassing a vintage emporium and a tarot reading if required. I liked the relaxed atmosphere. My avocado and poached egg with side salad was superb. I shall return. There is also a tie with the New Steine Hotel which also serves delicious French meals with an excellent range of french wines rarely served elsewhere. Superb.

Always a lovely welcome and always great to snoop in the market attached to the cafe. The wonderful Asha is now doing Tarot readings a real character.

Cosy little place in Kemptown. A shop and a coffee in one in a good way. It has its own style, definitely not one in a dozen. The French onion soup was delicious. Highly recommended.

My friend and I felt so welcome and relaxed in this cafe. The cafe is set in a small building with individual antique/vintage/retro units around the edge. I went for a wander while waiting for my order. The menu has a good selection of food and drink and staff were friendly. Service was fairly good, although a couple of items were lost in progress. This was quickly rectified when mentioned and it didn't spoil our visit. We went there twice during the weekend!

Our favourite place in Kemptown Village for a full English. George is always so welcoming, it’s always lovely to have a wander around the antiques shop and you can also have tarot cards read if you so wish! A really quirky, friendly place, which locals love

A+++ This is Brighton part of town that is very trendy. This cafe/store is the perfect place 👌 for it. The staff is very chill, helpful, good food, great coffee. On the customer side it's easy to see that everybody is speaking to anyone without knowing each others, Love it ❤. Don't be surprised to see people walking down the street with or without any gender looking, it's brilliant. Wheelchair ♿ friendly. Definitely give it a go... Worst veggie breakfast i have ever tasted Slimey scrambled eggs, watery spinach 2 thin slices of a potato that had a horrible nasty taste mushroom had a strange taste as well, the beans were ok but were sitting in the water on my plate. The sourdough bread was cold and very hard. The coffee was ok and a feeble attempt to put a heart in froth on the top of the coffee did not work either.I did tell them when asked how was it, i told him not nice and he wked awY.... *11 wS a bit steep for what was served up to meof the coffee

Excellent scone, jam & cream, also interesting bric a brac shop on premises, when ever in Kemp Town visit this cafe it is lovely olde worldly, staff very pleasant.

Great service, we didn't have much time and the food took a little while so we had to get it as a takeaway. But the guy that served us was lovely and chatty!

It's a lovely home feeling when there. The food it's very good. Plus it's the shop inside where you can indulge yourself to Jeremey furniture and others. The units and pieces are beautiful restored. Great place.

A beautiful cafe, with the best bacon in Brighton! Used to come to Cup of Joe a lot before lockdown and was sad to see it closed, but hurrah, it has reopened! I recently went there to enjoy there delicious breakfast once more and was not disappointed. Again I was welcomed by the wonderful jazz they play inside and the excellent service they offer. The food is anything but standard, it is incredibly well priced and scrumptious. This is not a cafe to be over looked and rather one to be celebrated! Welcome back.

A really quirky place for coffee - they do light bites to eat and some cake the choices vary every day the staff are so friendly and helpful and they let dogs in!! They also sell second hand furniture and clothing and other odd pieces so well worth a look around very reasonable prices too

Its really gone down hill which is a shame as it used to be good and we went there often. Bacon sandwich on dry bread, no butter, £5.50. One small omelette and a bottle of water, nearly £10. Tables occupied - 3. That says it all!

Cup of JOE/ does a V-good Latte, when made as requested; located, at N0. 28 (upper) ST George's Road. BN2 1ED directly across from the barley mow pub. there are also inside stalls some full of interesting things. but beware of the shared {unsanitary} wc "especially" the inside light pullstring and while you're in the back of the dark, damp musty smelling shop *Think if there was a fire back there would you beable to find a fire🔥exit amongst the clutter*❓Other wise the cafe can be very busy which may reflect the chefs skills🌈

Really nice atmosphere, clean, friendly staff and good service. I'll definitely be going there again! If I have food, I'll post my opinion on that too.

The food was decent, and the staff nice. I had the English and find the potatoes nicely cooked, there was plenty of bacon, the sausage was nice but cut in half ( I assume to cook faster), and I think the bread is from real patisserie (which means it is delicious)
