Consistently top notch flat white coffee. I like the current staff who are friendly and take pride in their art. I gave up with Opposite due to rude staff during the crazy Covid lockdown but am now a regular again.

This review relates to the Meanwood branch. I went today but found the staff really unfriendly, bordering on surly. I’m not sure if they were just having a bad day, but I felt unwelcome due to their attitude. It was like they were not bothered.

Why are the staff so abrupt and verge on rude?! I come here a lot and I’ve never been anything other than polite and I just find the staff really off. It’s a shame because the coffee and pastries are great. There was one really charming guy that used to work there but since he left it’s just become more apparent to me how off putting the staff are.

Tried two different batch brews they had on - both were Rwandan coffees roasted by Echelon Coffee Roasters, and both were absolutely delicious. The person that served me was super friendly and the shop had a great atmosphere. Definitely the best coffees I've had in Leeds for a long time. The cakes and sandwiches looked very tempting as well!

Thought would give this place another go as the coffee is good. However no change in decor or cleanliness. Sticky tables, dirty floor, full of noisy small children, and unstable chairs outside (went out for some peace). A coffee is eye wateringly £3.80 now! I shall not return.

Love the coffee but the place is worn out - floor frequently very dirty, a general feeling of ‘not loved’ and the small bits of furniture outside are so rickety they are positively dangerous. I love independent coffee shops but could be moving to House of Koko down the road where its clean and I don't feel I am taking my life in my hands if I sit outside. So much potential - just needs a bit of TLC

The shop has taken control over the public area in front of their cafe in order to marshal the public through a narrow one way system. NO one is allowed to drink their coffee near the cafe, or sit on the benches that they provocatively use as barriers across the public area. Very expensive cakes by the way. Their coffee portions are small and I prefer Cafe Koko nearby and Bare Coffee in Headingley where the staff are friendly and the coffee as good in larger portions.

I've been a regular here for a few years now, but I'm afraid they've lost me. I went here when things first started opening up again, intending to have a coffee and a snack if they had anything, and pick up a loaf of bread. Unfortunately, while the staff recognised me, it seems they're no longer taking cash (even though I didn't want change). That's all I have, so if it's not good enough, I'll go somwhere else in future.

This morning, my friend and I decided to try this cafe and as it was so sunny, we sat outside. My initial impression was it was a cute, trendy cafe selling the usual smashed avocado on toast, eggs etc. I queued up for about 5 mins to place an order for 1 decaf latte and 1 peppermint tea and went to sit back down. 15 mins later the drinks still hadn’t arrived so I popped my head through the front door and asked if the drinks were nearly ready and commented that it had taken a long time. The barista muttered something under his breath like “we’re doing it as fast as we can”. Another ten minutes passed before the waiter brought them to the table. He then proceeded to have a right go at me saying “your unnecessary comments are very disheartening and we work on minimum wage” Well 1) it’s not my fault if you’re on minimum wage, complain to your boss not your customers! And 2) I don’t think complaining about a 15 min or 25 min wait for 2 hot drinks is unnecessary. And the latte was luke warm and mainly froth and the peppermint tea was half a mug! As many others have said on here, there are plenty of other cafes in Chapel A to frequent, who hopefully have less grumpy and rude staff. Avoid!

Food good, coffee good, seating arrangements a little restricted (more so when people spread over a few random tables). Surprised by the obvious lack of engagement/friendliness for a small cafe that must rely on repeat business in an area where there is s lot of competition. Pretty disappointing in truth. A shame.

Have visited this coffee shop many time over the past year and enjoy the coffee but I was rather shocked on my last visit to see that both the establishment and the staff are looking rather'tired and unloved'....a shame as when I started going it was a fresh little cafe with a real buzz. The outside in particular looks neglected and the guys serving were friendly but looked overworked. With so many rivals opening up in the area (with lower prices)perhaps some'pampering and rejuvenation'is needed.

Plenty of coffee shops to choose from at Chapel Allerton. Opposite is one of them. Coffee is good. A few vegan options, but not very good, and a bit of a rip-off eg you can have Beans on Toast for the same price (just under £4) as Beans on Toast with Mature Cheddar Cheese. The beans don't taste very good in my opinion. Toast is made with Leeds Bread Co-op Sourdough. Service is a bit hit and miss, certainly nothing outstanding. They sometimes have vegan cake. Inside is cramped, and you're rubbing shoulders with whomever is on the next table. There are a few tables on the pavement, quite nice if the weather is good. With so much competition, they could make more of an effort. Just over £7 for coffee and beans on toast.

Went with my auntie to try out Opposite Cafe for lunch, having heard about it from a friend. We were very impressed! My auntie chose the blue cheese and chutney and I chose beans and cheese, both on sourdough toast. It was all excellent -crunchy, chewy toast with very tasty toppings. The cheese with my beans was a little block, which came with a tiny grater for DIY grating- a cute touch. We both had Earl Grey tea- proper leaves in individual pots- fresh and hot. We were happily full but I bought 3 different slices of tray bakes to take away for the family, which all look delicious. Great, friendly service too. Will definitely be returning! PS. There's no signage outside so you can't see the cafe name from outside- when we mentioned it, they said they'd been meaning to put one up but the owner was thinking of changing the logo so they haven't got round to it! My advice- get a sign up so people can find you!! In the meantime, it's next to the pharmacy, just by the bank as you turn into Stainbeck Lane.

I visited this place with my daughter (on her recommendation) as she likes the beans on sourdough which comes with a cute little cheese grater and lump of cheese to grate your own. But twee if you ask me, but she is only 7... Anyway, I ordered the beans on toast and it was delivered without the cheese. As my order was also incomplete I went back in to query it, and was met with surprise that I wanted cheese with the beans on toast (which is advertised as 'beans on toast with mature cheddar'). After going back inside on two more occasions my order (coffee, toast, and beans on toast) was finally complete. It was a bit of a faff and not a very relaxing experience. I fear that this is one reason why certain independent shops don't work out, it's just too much hassle getting what you ordered, although the quality was great and the staff were friendly. I'll visit again but if it's the same maybe try somewhere else next time, there's no shortage of other places in Chapel Allerton.

This could be a nice little cafe.It appears that many people come to do some work on their laptops, others meet friends. I was in the latter. The problem was the radio was set so loudly that we had to talk over the top of it the people on the next table had very loud voices, possibly again trying to talk over the top of the radio, the couple on the other side just appeared to give up and sat in silence.I got the feeling the radio was only on for the staff, at one point they were fiddling with it and turned it up! When myself and my friend turned around in an alarmed way they turned it down again. I won't be going there again, there are plenty of other cafes in the area where you don't need to compete with the radio.

I have lunch here at least once a week. The coffee is outstanding, and I have been educated about what makes for good coffee from the baristas (apparently not over roasting the beans and getting the right coffee:milk ratio is key). They don't have a kitchen on site, but there is normally a choice of 3 types of sandwich (eg kiln smoked salmon, haloumi, tomato and avocado, chicken bacon and avocado) a quiche, a tortilla and 3 types of salad, which are usually delicious, Sandwiches range from £2.50 to £3.50 depending on filling, while a slice of quiche or tortilla and 3 salads is £5. Really good chocolate caramel shortbread and other cakes too.My only gripe is that the tables are a little small, difficult to fit the food plate, coffee and a newspaper on all at the same time.

Used to be lovely but new owners don’t have a clue. Whilst the food is okay, everything else has gone down hill. Menu wise I’d suggest you advertise a quiche as a quiche, not a tart. You don’t stand a chance of hearing your party, the acoustics are shocking. As for the clientele it’s full of screaming and I mean screaming brats. So if you fancied a nice relaxing lunch with friends, I’d suggest somewhere else because it won’t happen. And the owners don’t care, that’s the sad part. Perhaps you need to advertise that you are more of a crèche than an overpriced cafe.
