Cumin in South Ribble

Not been since before Covid and the rebranding from the Cumin (now Royal Indian Restaurant). So wanted to go back with the family and to celebrate belated birthday with them. Place is excellent. Has been redecorated inside so looking nice, the food was excellent and the staff are very friendly, professional and polite. So had a lovely evening meal out. I'd recommend this restaurant to eat in or as a takeaway and will be going again.

Went there in August, making a booking before hand. The owner, Mr Rana, was very courteous, polite, and was taking interest in his guests on individual tables. He was interacting with every-one of the guests and making sure that they were happy. Its this kind of personal touch which makes a restaurant stand out of the crowd. The restaurant itself was quite big and had excellent interiors and beautiful decor, and plenty of free parking. The food was delightful, the starters were modified to our taste and the curries were excellent. The plates for main course had been decorated with each plate decorated differently. The food could be compared to a Michelin star restaurant without the expensive price tag. Each of the dishes was bursting with genuine Indian flavours and each bite would leave you wanting for more. The food was reasonably priced and the portions were more than sufficient. We would definitely go there when we visit Preston again!

We went to Royal Indian, which was cumin before. Food was really good and service was good also. New management trying their best. New owner Chef came to our table to make sure everything was all right. New menu is really good. We tried few dishes dry garlic chips,indo-Chinese chicken wings,murgh mirch masala,pilau rice and mixed naan bread.everything was very tasty & cooked to perfection. Thank you very much . We will come again

This is the SPOT for authentic INDIA food, We went there yesterday and was absolutely amazed by the food. IT WAS ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS AND VERY YUMMY. We had aloo tikki ,prawns, chicken tikka.the chutneys were amazing as well but tomato chutney was out of this world. ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. For main course, we had chicken tikka masala, chicken curry ,nammm curry,garlic naan ,lamb rogan josh and pilau rice which were absolutely amazing. I would recommend you to go as well.

Sat down for 40 minutes waiting for a table booked for over 3 weeks. No offer of drinks, thankfully not as they were half cobra half froth. Will not return.

It was lovely to sit outside the anchor and have a fab meal from Cumin. Great to see two business supporting one another until everything gets fully open again.

Tonight was balti with boiled rice, superb as usual,the best you can get thanks guys, see you nert week.

Is this restaurant under new management over the last few months?? Last 2 times we have been we have been left disappointed with our food. Bland, not as described on the menu, very little meat in the dishes. The first time we put it down to a bad night in the kitchen, but there is no excuse for twice. We will not be going back I’m afraid. Food was clearly precooked and just warmed up. Ordered lamp chops for starters and from the order being taken to lamp chops being placed on the table was less than 3 minutes and tasted nothing like tandoori.

Had the most amazing meal with my partner, Saturday evening had a couple drinks as well as popadoms a starter each and main with a garlic naan. All staff where polite and checked back regularly. It was a lovely evening I will definitely be back.

Not impressed tried to order a takeaway tonight and after taking ages to answer the phone they then say they are too busy to do takeaways. In these troubled times this is amazing. They won't be getting our business again

We have been here twice before and had great meals, although that was in 2019 and how things have changed in 2020. The service is poor with only 2 staff, 1 of which is running the reception and bar leaving only 1 waiting the tables. I had a chicken dish which was battered like a pakora covered in a tomato style sauce but was not described battered in the menu and keema rice, both of which were bland as could be. Just not nice. I explained this to a waiter who apologised but did not offer to refund. I left it all. We will not be back here.

The guy who runs this place is so professional as are all the staff, food is amazing well done cumin

chicken thali meal , 2 chicken curries samosas ,rice ,naan bread and Aloo Gobi cauliflower and potatoes tomatoes side dish. Chicken Korai along with chips absolutely fantastic. This is now our local curry house. Staff really nice. Support your local curry house.

This was our second visit for the thali tapas offer on a Tuesday and it was just as good as last time. 3 curries (1 lamb, 1 chicken, 1 veg), onion bhajis, seekh kebabs, pilau rice and garlic naan bread all for the bargain price of £8.95. Everything tasted amazing and the service was fantastic. Can't wait to return again soon. The menu for the thali is changed weekly and announced in advance on their Facebook page.

Excellent evening. The reception was prompt and courteous and we were asked to take a seat in the waiting area. We chose our food whilst having a drink and after a brief wait we were shown to our table . It's a relaxed and modern decor and the tables aren't close to each other . We had poppodoms for starters which came with 6 sauces each of which were superb. The mains came quickly afterwards without a long delay. Both were so fresh and tasty with the rice cooked perfectly. I had the South Indian chilli chicken dish which was spicy and amazing to taste. The drink prices are good with a bottle of red for £14. Overall an excellent evening with great food , prompt service and a reasonable cost . I'll be back here again .

Visited with friends recently. Service was great from start to finish. We all had different dishes, everyone commented on how nice the dishes were. Big sized portions on the mains but really great quality!

I used to visit this restaurant regularly when it was Sylhet but having retired from Police Headquarters (opposite the restaurant) in 2014, I hadn't been aware of Sylhet closing its doors about one year ago and Cumin evolving in its place. Once I became aware of this I looked at the reviews for Cumin on Tripadvisor and they were very encouraging so I booked a table for two and hubby and I went last Friday15 November. We were well known by the staff at Sylhet and always received a really warm welcome and had a chat withe manager whenever time permitted. So, it felt strange walking in and receiving a rather luke warm welcome. We were shown straight to our table and given menus and we ordered a bottle of wine. The menu was extensive and we both studied it in detail as there were many dishes listed that were new to us. We are both "medium" fans and we did feel that the chef specials were swamping us by "hot" or mild" ones! Eventually we went for papadum and chutney tray (me) and the fish pakora (hubby). I thought the chutney tray was a bit pricey at £4.50 and the inclusion of coleslaw was a little random. My partner's fish pakora was lacking in "spicy batter" and was just like a plain fish goujon. For mains we ordered the Murgh Tanger but requested it was made medium and exotic (chicken) garlic massala which was categorised as medium. We had read so much about the gunpowder potatoes that we just had to try them and one portion of pilau rice. We were given plenty of time to eat our appetisers and then our mains arrived which we were sharing. My first taste was the Murgh Tanger immediately followed by a sharp intake of breath - the flavour was really delicious but it was sooo hot! Next was a taste of the exotic garlic massala - also a fab flavour but too mild!! I had a word with a waiter about the heat of the Murgh Tanger as I had specifically asked for it to be medium and he immediately went to take the dish back to the kitchen. However, I said: "No, I love the flavour; if I could have some tandoori mint sauce that will cool it down"- and it did. In fact it was delicious - an interesting experiment!! We both really enjoyed our meal but agreed one main was too hot and the other too mild which we would remember next time. Yes, there will be a next time - in fact we have booked for Christmas Day! We always prefer a good Indian meal to a Roast Turkey dinner and Cumin have got the job! We hope that we can give them a 5!!

2nd week running we have enjoyed Thali night. the food and service on both occasions was excellent. love this place

All nice and service good, but I gave it the last chance today and I’m afraid it’s very bland food.. popddoms come with coleslaw??? No lime pickle either and soggy onions.I really hoped it would be better but there are much better Indian restaurants around than this.. sorry

Wow blown away with the food. Out with my dad and we thought we'd bob in and try it out. Best choice ever. Please try the gunpowder potatoes if you go they are marvelous. Friendly staff, great food really great venue

Third visit now as it’s local to our training venue . Has not disappointed on any visit . Staff very friendly atmosphere excellent and food top notch .

Last Saturday evening I took 22 people from the local golf club for a meal at Cumin. Even though I had been there before I was slightly apprehensive as to how they would deal with the numbers and provide a quality service.My fears were totally unfounded. There service was excellent from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. They took our orders very quickly and the food and drinks were served in a very timely manner. There was nothing that they couldn’t do for us.As always the food was fantastic and great value for money. I thought the drinks were reasonably priced as well. The atmosphere was great and everybody in my party enjoyed themselves. I will definitely be going back again and would recommend anybody to go whether you are a small or large party.

Came here for the first time on a recommendation and after seeing reviews. To be fair, I am a foodie and have critical standards.

Decided to try this place for the first time on the night of their tapas which is on every Tuesday. You can check the next week`s menu on Facebook each preceding Thursday. The food was excellent, served hot and quickly. Desserts are also brilliant. Excellent value and competitive alcohol prices. Lovely ambiance. Friendly staff and the owner made a point of coming over to ask if everything was OK. Will definitely go again.

Visited on a rainy Saturday evening after booking on line. Every starter and main course were cooked to perfection, however my reason for writing the review was the quality of service. From the moment we entered the restaurant I found the service levels to be probably the best I have experienced, nothing was too much trouble for every single member of the team. Well done Team Cumin.

Been 3 times in last 6 weeks with lads from work, every meal was excellent, Cumin is fast becoming our favourite curry house in the area. Last night I had the Handi Lamb which was delicious, the Indian Spicy chips and the Lemon/garlic rice were great accompaniments too. If only they had paratha on their menu.......

We have visited Cumin half a dozen times now and always find the food to be excellent. The staff are friendly and attentive, it has a relaxed atmosphere and the prices are reasonable. It deserves to be recognised as one of the best Indian restaurants for miles around. I wouldn’t consider going elsewhere for a curry.

Cumin, just gets better and better every time we go. The staff are so friendly, the restaurant seems to always be packed. The food is delicious, and they will tweak the spicy stuff to suit your taste. Have taken family and friends from around the world and they have all said how lucky we are to have such a great restaurant on our doorstep. We couldn’t agree more 5/5 I did read one review about the toilet, and I suppose I have to agree they aren’t the best toilets... however I go for the food, I use my toilet at home ☺️

Cumin has a great atmosphere. You are seated in the waiting area and your drinks and food are order are taken whilst your table is being prepared. The food is reasonably priced and very tasty. I enjoy Indian food but do not consider myself to be an expert. However, the rest of my party are and then agreed just how good the food was. The service was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely be going again and recommend anyone to do the same.

With the closure of the Shampan we thought we’d give this place a try.

This is another Indian restaurant which is just very mediocre. It has the carpet and no wooden floor. Decor is tired and no ambience. Staff is good and attentive but most importantly food is not up-to the scratch. We ordered a prawn dish which was a big lump of prawns in very uncooked sauce and way too hot. The starters were very mediocre too. Nan bread was very doughy. I would give it one star because it has parking and staff is attentive. But what lets it down is food. I do go to a lot of Indian restaurants and wouldnt be visiting this again. Sorry Cumin

We have often had family meals here and have always had great food and service.

We 'Found' this restaurant on Monday night, despite only living a mile away. Quite possibly the best Indian restaurant we have been to. Food choice is excellent - the 'Gunpowder Potatoes' were to die for. Food exceptionally good and the staff were beyond reproach nothing was to much trouble. I would urge you to go for what could be the best Indian meal you have had.

Food fantastic, service superb, fantadtic evening. Would definately recommend. Great menu. A great atmosphere and the staff warm and friendly....... No we're not related, I'm a genuine customer.

Visited with my fiancée and her mum and dad. Was absolutely fantastic food with great staff and lively ambiance. Even tried a complimentary dish at the end of the meal. Wonderful, authentic food and great wine

So my husband, youngest son and I tried Cumin tonight after hearing good reports. We last came when it was koohi moor anyway it didn't disappoint. Gunpowder potatoes and chicken tikka for me. keV had tandori with a phal sauce and Luke a mixed tandori ... we will be back ...everyone helpful friendly and food great

Love the quality Indian dishes and variety, would recommend a visit. Staff very helpful, have eaten in and had a takeaway always quality and not run of the mill indian

Had a nice meal here tonight the chicken Korai was delicious but found the soft drinks very expensive.

Had a lovely meal here tonight, I had a chicken Korai it was delicious. The only downside is two of our party are teetotal and the soft drinks weren't very good and expensive.

What a really nice place, great food the service was second to none, had a take out a few times because of time constraint but went for a sit down meal and was not disappointed.

Come to this restaurant nearly every week the food is real Indian food ! Freshly made very tasty and all fresh ingredients they bend over back wards to give you excellent service brilliant chef the best red around for curry’s by far

Last time we came to the cumin was 6 months ago and it was not good.however reading good reports we gave it one last chance being local.yes things seem to be on the up .very nice food and they even brought out a sample of the curry sauce which was very good.nice and clean and warm on a cold night.just one thing I don't get cold slaw In chutney tray .

Cumin, formerly Sylhet Bangla, is smartly and comfortably appointed following a make-over late last year. The menu and quality of food are excellent. Zia and his staff are always welcoming and attentive. All-in-all, the best around and means we are now determined regulars. Recommended.

We only live down the road and always intended to pop in and see what it was like. We were not disappointed, staff very friendly and efficient, Menu was interesting and varied. Quality of food was really good, so we will certainly be going again

Came here as a 4, with my boyfriend, boyfriends dad and his girlfriend. None of us had ever been before. Was honestly one of the nicest Indians I have been to.

Changed dramatically I’ve always enjoyed when it was called shylett but has improved both in atmosphere and the quality of food and service has got even better

We used to visit when this was Sylhet and never had any complaints. However I ordered my usual chicken bhuna at weekend and it was even better. Cumin feels cosier than when it was Sylhet and has a wider choice of food. There was plenty of chicken in the bhuna and it tasted very fresh. Would definitely recommend a visit.

The service is personal, police and efficient. The food is amazing with a great variety of Asian and fusion dishes. really do recommend.

This is our second visit to this restaurant. First I should point out that under its old name.this restaurant was very popular not least because of the warm welcome which was always provided to guests by owner Shaheed and the excellent value for money. . Shaheed still retains an interest and on occasion can still be found there. The restaurant has had a makeover and the food is more expensive. In short it has gone upmarket. In my view there have been losses and gains. The environment is certainly more attractive, The new furniture and the tablecloths and new cutlery give one a feeling of luxury. The menu has also changed although it is more expensive. That is fine but much depends on the experience on the night. We were guests at the opening night which turned out to be a disaster. The food was delayed well over an hour. Even the poppadum and pickles did not turn up. Consequently we drank more than we intended. The current manager was so polite and apologetic. There had been problems with the gas supply so he did not charge us even for the drinks. Our second visit was quite different. The food was excellent. We were a party of seven and everyone was happy. Since then we have heard mixed reviews, some good some less so. Shaheed is difficult to replace as a popular local restauranter. He kept a close eye on the staff who were so well trained that service was always perfect. Perhaps now it is sometimes less so. May it continue to improve.

My wife and I visited the Cumin on a Sunday evening, there were a good number of people already in when we arrived. The staff were really friendly and the owner took time out with everyone to make sure everything was ok. The food was brilliant and a little bit different to your normal Indian cuisine, lots of different dishes as well as steaks fish even burgers on the menu. The decor is really nice and the atmosphere is great, this place is well worth a visit. I would thoroughly recommend it and have booked for our Christmas lunch. Excellent you have to try it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
