My wife and I had such a terrible experience in this restaurant from the very begining. The hostess could not find us in the system and she became kind of rude, after she gave us the wrong menu and did not know about any offer or different menus. The service was very slow, members of staff wasn't really friendly and helpful with the menu. The worst part was food as we had to send back our dishes. We explained to the management that our gnocci wasn't edible so he took us to the kitchen to proof that they are "homemade" but we still could not believe to be honest. We have been offered a discount on the bill and a free pizza to share but even pizza was terrible. We will never ever going again!!!!

We had breakfast here which costs £30 per person. As a Gold Melia member, you get free breakfast for your companion! The waitress who served us was really nice and friendly. She explained the menu and the hot breakfast was really tasty and well presented! There was a limited selection of fruit, good selection of pastries and cereals. The two members of staff who greet you when you enter the restaurant were a but rude! But I suppose if you have to wake up that early who wouldn't be!? Would I pay £30 for breakfast here again?? Compared to other London hotels...probably not!

Have never experienced 'tapas' in an Italian restaurant before. As a pre theatre meal it was perfect: timing was great and provided by excellent and attentive staff. The selection of a set 6 course meal with each of the main (mini) elements of Italian dishes was just the right amount for a dinner for two. Staff explained that it was a risky venture for them, but I think it will pay off for them.

Recommended by friends and can see why. The food is small plate starter size portions of which as a group of four we ordered three each. This was with some recommendations from the waitress who was happy to guide you through the menu. The food is brought to the table as cooked so there is a steady build up of plates. I wouldnt say you need more than three dishes each as we didnt have room for a dessert. Lobster ravioli was brilliant as were the veal meatballs.

There are plenty of tapas bar in London but only a few for Italian cuisine. I heard about this place on bookatable but their deal was far too large for my eating habits. So I opted for 3 plates with the standard pricing. Initially I had two plates: the buffalo mozzarella pizzetta and meatballs; both better than average (great tomato sauce for the two meatballs served), pizza was not memorable apart from the good dough. The best dish was the one with coffee fettuccine & duck ragu': a really special meal, fettuccine were clearly homemade and awesome. Lots of meat, of good quality. (Although I am still puzzled by the habit of using parsley in ragu' mains, I reckon it's widespread in other restaurants...) Due to the small plates, you will feel hungry with less than 3 plates. Prices are reasonable, between 6 and 9 pounds each. The venue is stylish, so smart casual is the advisable dress code. Service is excellent, attentive and professional; even though it took a while to prepare the dishes: I could see there was only one person cooking for lunch on Saturday, I was not in a rush though.. On the whole, a positive experience, flavours are generally distinctive but not exceptional. Definitely recommended if you are nearby, service is beyond expectations.

This restaurant is designed to be along the lines of tapas:- order multiple items- good selection - pizza, pasta, fish, etc.- I wouldn't say traditional Italian but more modern- dishes are small, expectation is that people order approx. 3 dishes each- friendly staff (especially Front Desk!)- modern restaurant design, both regular and raised tables)- good quality food- ideally located for theatre districtMy only complaint was the bread course - bread was served cold (warm bread would be much nicer).

The menu is a tapas style with all small plates that arrive at your table as soon as they are ready. The waitress recommended 3 plates per person or 5 between 2 depending on how hungry you are! We ordered 3 per person which was plenty! This style of eating is perfect for people who enjoy nibbles and small bites of lots of different things. I loved the tuna pizzette and veal meatballs. Word to the wise, the burrata that comes with focaccia bread actually only comes with a flake of toasted bread so order the bread board instead if you actually want some bread. Staff were great, friendly and helpful without being an ever constant presence around the table. It was quite quiet for a Saturday lunchtime but I thoroughly enjoyed the meal and would go back

We booked the current offer of 6 Italian tapas plus gelato and glass of wine for 2 people (3 tapas each) at £22.50. Very happy about the food and we are likely to go back if we see other offers, however we were served by a number of different people, all having a different idea about various aspects of the menu, and I am actually not sure whether the individual people were simply not knowledgeable or if they had been instructed to softly "cheat" the client. For example, the girl who took us to the table said that gelato was one of the options for the 6 tapas and I had to insist that the offer clearly said that it was in addition to the tapas. She went to check and didn't come back. The following waitress was easier to persuade (she must have realised that I wouldn't have given up) but said that only 2 flavours of gelato were part of the menu, for other flavours we would have to pay separately. Subsequently, as I wanted to confirm on flavours, another waitress came and indicated a long list of flavours as opposed to the 2 indicated before. It was probably another attempt to charge our gelati separately. But I said that the previous waitress had told me about the 2 flavours only and so she disappeared to check and didn't come back. Eventually the waitress of the 2 flavours came back and we ordered one of each. Finally, the bill already includes service but they try and double charge for it as they give you the card machine showing the question about adding a gratuity, so it's up to the customer to say no. Shame as food is really good.

Loved the ultra modern decor and the waiters were so helpful and attentive especially as one of our party was gluten intolerant. We ordered a great variety of dishes to share amongst the four of us and we enjoyed each one - if I were to recommend any it would be the fish dishes which were particularly delicious. I liked the small tapas style size of the dishes and though the waiter recommended 3 each we found that 2 were adequate ordered along with some vegetables too. Would definitely go back.

I have a nut allergy and my husband and I had been wandering around for about an hour looking for somewhere to eat. We must have been in and out of twelve to fifteen places only to be told that they cannot deal with a nut allergy. We came back to the ME to regroup and I suggested that we ring down and find out if Cucina Asellina could cater for me. I was delighted when I was confidently told that they could. So many places don't realise that a nut allergy is not a lifestyle choice, it can be fatal so when the restaurant staff offer a confident response then I feel so much better. We were seated in an empty restaurant (but it was only 4.30 on a week day afternoon) so we got a lovely table. The staff explained how the menu worked and that each plate is a small size and made for sharing. They also said to decide what we wanted as there was very little that wouldn't be suitable for my allergy. We chose polenta chips (delicious), a calzone (amazing), lobster tortelloni (something I wasn't keen on trying but utterly amazing), octopus (I didn't try but my husband loved it). We had a number of other dishes as well - I think seven or eight in total and it was the perfect amount of food for the two of us (we both have a good appetite). It's a lovely way to eat, the food is delivered to the table as and when it is ready so you constantly have a supply of hot and fresh food coming to the table. The meal was finished with some lovely sorbet. In summary, wonderful staff, superb food and a lovely atmosphere. When we visit London again we will most certainly be back!

Found this place while looking for a pre-theatre dinner one Saturday evening. Very friendly service, and terrific food. The portions were served tapas style and we ate at the bar. The barman was very funny and we had an excellent time. The salmon tartar salad, the stuffed olives and the short ribs were sensational. Menu prices were okay, particularly given the west End location. The house white wine was pretty good too. Loved this place and would definitely go back.

Very nice Sunday evening nosh, post some sightseeing. The veal parm stuffed olives, lightly breaded and sautéed were define. The small plate pasta and meat dishes were freshly prepared and flavorful, and the bread basket was well appointed. The cocktails were expertly prepared, though the wine by the glass selection was a bit light, due to unavailability. Overall, a very pleasant dining experience in a trendy and hip atmosphere at the top of the Strand.

On our recent trip to the theatre in London we were looking for a pre theatre dinner, all the usual chains and bars were packed with queues, we saw Asellina across the road and decided to give it a try. We were so glad we did! We entered a stylish reception area free of the usual chaos and queues and were quickly found a table. The waitress came over and explained the concept of Italian tapas, which was a nice surprise! We ordered 7 dishes; lobster ravioli, tagliatelle with duck ragu, lamb cutlets with rosemary potatoes, arrancini, mozzarella and roasted veg, calzone and brocolli with chilli. All were absolutely delicious, I can highly recommend the lamb, duck, clone and the brocolli was delicious too! Dishes were bought out as they were ready so felt manageable, all hot and freshly prepared. We even had time(and just enough dpace) for dessert - tiramisu and mini gelati cones! Then a 2 minute walk to the theatre, a perfect start to our evening, I would highly recommend. It wasn't particularly cheap at about £35 (compared to some of the cheaper chains) per head Inc service, but we had 7 dishes plus desserts and a glass of wine and a soft drink. But I personally think it was 100% worth it for the food and stress free dining experience and not trying to be rushed out as you often are in West end restaurants.

Decided to try this place while walking away from Trafalgar Square after a work meeting in London- we were drawn in by the reasonable prices and creative regional Italian menu! My colleague knows Italian food having spent vacations enjoying food in Italy, cooking Italian food, etc, and this place met his food standards! The waiter recommended a starter with sardines, softshell crab etc - it was excellent. We ordered a wonderful octopus dish, brocolli with garlic and chili, black cabbage, and a pasta containing lobster. All were excellent. The tapa size of the dishes was perfect for splitting between two people. The desert of cardomon pannacota was heavenly. Wine was excellent, and the waiter was very attentive, helpful and friendly. Me and my wife visited with 2 friends on Friday night. The place has a nice modern deco and staff were welcoming and friendly. We ordered around 12 tapas-like dishes to share and because my friend doesn't like cheese we requested the ones with no cheese in the ingredients and for others like carpaccio we asked to serve the cheese separately. Well... we then found that most dishes had cheese anyway spread over or hidden in the recipe. Luckily it wasn't an allergy or similar, but we had to send back and replace many which ruined a bit the atmosphere of our dinner. I have to say that the waiters were helpful but still could had done more to prevent as we asked specifically. Apart from this incident the food was good quality Italian traditional. Just overpriced in my view.

Reservation was a must, so after booking a few weeks in advance, it was time to enjoy lunch at Cucina Asellina. The place is gorgeous and staff so welcoming. It took me a while to sit down as I was so enjoying the fire place in the reception area (toilets are clean, though very tiny and to be found in the same area). The food was beautifully cooked (tapas style) and served pretty quickly. The wine list was quite extensive, though I opted for several martinis. The atmosphere is amazing and you can easily spend hours in there without leaving your table. Though the bill will “wake you up”, as the whole experience will not be a cheap affair. However, I definitely recommend this place.

I asked to speak to the manger who I now know is called Shiela. She came out and didn't even apologise for the restaurants mistake but instead called security to remove me. This I found very insulting as It was totally uncalled for.The security gentleman arrived he was very apologetic. I asked him if STK would be able to accommodate us with a table to be informed that the manager Shiela had said I am bared from Radio Bar STK and Cucina Aselina. As a senior manager myself I find this highly unprofessional and uncalled for. Never in my life have I been treated so badly. We made our booking via book a table the deal was £25 pp for three dishes and unlimited bubbles and what a deal it was food was 5* our waiter was so lovely couldn't have been more helpful. The bubbles I was worried you would have to keep on asking for a top up and would take time to get one but I had nothing to worry about there even if ur glass was half full it was topped up. The place it's self was fabulous just a amazing lunch all round. Thank you cucina asellina we will be back.

Went on the '£25pp inc. Prosceco' deal. Firstly you should note that this is a timed 2hr free top up slot so make the most of it and that the so called Prosceco isn't the real deal - but very drinkable so no big deal unless you are fussy. Portions are more 'small plate' size rather than tiny bar tapas. You choose 3 plates each (with a view to sharing) and for our group of 4 I added 2 veg (at £3-4 ea) and desserts/coffees. One of us only drank beer which was extra so total bill of apprx. £180 - i.e. its never as cheap as you think it will be but the food was great. I would especially recommend the mixed fried fish, veal meatballs, lamb and slow cooked pork. Salmon tartare and mixed mushrooms were also very tasty. Overall a great place for those of us who like more of a 'taster' style experience as opposed to one massive plateful. If you stuck to the 3 dishes each (easily enough at lunch - maybe not at dinner) and only drank the sparkling wine it certainly is a fab deal with great service, ambience and decor in a great location. A pre-dinner cocktail at the Radio Bar at the top of the hotel is an added treat.

Visited with 2 friends for a Saturday afternoon late lunch to celebrate a friends birthday. The 3 plates and prosecco for £25 was such a fantastic deal. Having sampled the pizza and prosecco deal in the summer I knew the food was good but this was even better than expected. The slow braised rib was unbelievably delicious. Everything was spot on, our glasses were never more than half empty even when the restaurant was very busy, and the gelato cones were a treat for dessert. The front of house service could have been a little warmer, but the restaurant waiting staff were just great. The only thing we had to request for a top up was our water glasses, not a bad situation to be in!! I cannot wait to visit again.

I will say though, the lamb chop and rib are just to die for, the meat on the lamb was perfectly done with an amazing crumb coating that'll leave you rolling your eyes in pure delight. The rib meat just galls off the bone with a cheesy tasting mash underneath to really get the juices going!

Went here on the £25 3 tapas and free flowing prosecco deal, the money is so reasonable I expected to go home a little hungry and disappointingly sober. No, no, no. The wait staff are attentive, my glass never being less than half full and they gave some great recommendations on the food, to which 6 hungry / tipsy girls didn't even get near to finishing there was so much. The venue is nice, great for groups of friends and the place was littered with couples on dates, so free flowing prosecco being equally good for people looking to get drunk with mates or those looking to lubricate an awkward tinder date.Think the offer is only on till Jan, so really is a no brainer - I've already booked myself another evening with the girls at Cucina Asellina!

Having tried and tested this venue and having left positive feedback, we decided to book for Saturday 21 November at the 21h45 sitting as we were at the theatre. We had invited guests to join us and our booking was for 6 people. On arrival, the table was not ready for us and we had to wait along with others. This was understandable as it was heaving this particular Saturday night. What a good sign this is. Given the deal that we had taken up i.e 3 dishes and unlimited Prosecco for the 2 hour slot, we were finally seated some10-15 minutes late.Service was slow, the waitress paid little attention to us at first and having shared our previous experience with our guests, we were ready to order. The lady who was supervising the floor poured our drinks and to our surprise, the Prosecco didn't look or taste as we had had previously. The waitress then joined us at the table and launched into the menu and told us the items that were no longer available. I was so disappointed to be told this and the evening did not start off very well. When told about the Prosecco, we were told that it was not Prosecco and that it was a "spumante" which was not as advertised and to be honest was not very palatable. We expressed our disappointment and felt this was unacceptable and the waitress said that she would get the Manager. The weather this particularly evening was freezing, and the passageway to the Radiobar was like a wind tunnel. The fire that was originally on when we arrived was turned off and we all felt the cold. The Manager took some time to visit our table to hear of our disappointment and empathised and offered alternatives which were to be complimentary as a goodwill gesture. However, given that the "deal" is so popular, we find it astonishingly bizarre that a kitchen could run out of dishes knowing in advance how many covers were needed. No real explanation about the change of drink was given, they kept filling up the glasses, but it was not to a "Prosecco" standard.Having been the "hosts" and invited our guests to join us for a Cucina Asellina experience, we felt the evening was marred. The Manager was attentive and was professional, however, we felt that we didn't get what we paid for. Which was extremely disappointing.Goodwill gestures are not always the solution to problems. The service charge was omitted from our final bill, however, our guests felt it appropriate to leave a 10% gratuity as the Manager had done his best to improve the situation.Would we go back???? It's debateable. Would I recommend it? Well, if I did, I think I would express the shortfalls that might be experienced to avoid further disappointment. It is an extremely lively place and has a great atmosphere. When having tried and tested something and then deciding to share it with others, one doesn't expect the service and service levels to change. Our waitress clearly did not have the experience to deal with dissatisfied customers at the first level, and therefore, I would recommend further training in this area. Our requests for more heating due to the fire being turned off, fell on deaf ears.In the restaurants defence, our guests were extremely satisfied with the outcome, albeit that they were frozen from the cold air blasts that were coming into the restaurant via the RadioBar passageway, however, being a Londoner and dining out regularly, this is not the service that we are accustomed to and therefore, will be reconsidering whether we will personally use the restaurant again.

Wine flowed, service was brilliant and we thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon. For the quality of the food and the ambience of this restaurant I would go back without a deal - and theur prices seemed reasonable anyway. I was meeting a friend before a comedy benefit earlier this week and we decided to grab some food just beforehand. I stumbled upon this little gem on the bookatable website with a glorious deal- £25 for 3 dishes each and unlimited Prosecco. The reviews all seemed great, it's sister restaurant is in NY (always a good start) and it's Italian food which always goes down well with me.As I booked online only an hour before, they didn't have our reservation but that was no problem- I showed them the email and within seconds they offered to take our coats and seat us close to the window. As soon as we sat down, a lady came over and provided us with Prosecco immediately. A lovely waiter called Daniel came over and introduced the menu, provided some recommendations and left us to mull over the options. With the deal, as it is a tapas style menu, we could have 6 dishes between us and it applied to everything on the menu- literally everything! We ordered the meat and cheese selections, beef carpaccio, lamb, halibut, and a pizzette. ALL of it was perfect. Genuinely. Also, as soon as our glasses were half empty, someone would come over and top it up again. There was no expense spared when it came to the free bubbles. Would I go again?! Definitely! There's no question about it! I've already told a number of my friends about how much I enjoyed the offer and the food. I cant praise this place enough. And of course, we popped along to the next doorway outside the restaurant so I could show my friend the rooftop bar of the ME hotel (eating in the restaurant doesn't allow you to access the bar any different to a member of the public).

Each of the dishes arrived, they were announced, the food was well presented, the portions were generous and they were all hot and very tasty. Visited on a Sunday night for the £25 small plates and bottomless prosecco offer. As others have said - the service was a little slow. We were seated at a table and then left for around 15 minutes. However, the atmosphere was nice - it was quiet (Sunday) but buzzy, warm and friendly. Once a waitress did arrive, the prosecco began to flow and was generously topped up all evening - they certainly weren't stingy with it which was great. The food was good - you could make your selections from the A La Carte menu which I wasn't expecting - assumed there would be a more restricted choice for the offer. We tried a variety of dishes between the two of us, including risotto, octopus and calzone. Everything was very well done and, surprisingly for two people with big appetites, it did fill us up. Only hiccup came when we tried to order desert, only to sit waiting for half an hour. We had to leave to go to the cinema so chased up with the waitress, and it turned out they hadn't actually been rung through. No big problem as we weren't too fussed and were happy to sit and chat, but it was a bit of a shame.Overall a very pleasant evening.

We went here on a Thursday evening as part of the Amex London Restaurant Festival and were really looking forward to a great meal as lots of people had recommended this place to us. We were able to select 2 dishes each form the normal menu and have unlimited prosecco for 2 hours. The dishes were quite small when the idea was you were supposed to share 5-6 dishes between 3 of us. We sent back the roasted chicken, which was dry and completely tasteless, and the lamb chop/cutlets which had in total about 2 mouthfuls of meat on them. The 2nd chicken was slightly better other still lacking anything particularly special in terms of flavour. The 2nd lamb dish was superb, which led us to think that they just weren't giving people who booked via Amex the normal dishes, despite us ordering off the normal menu. Desserts quite uninspiring. The waiters were very friendly although we did have to ask quite a few times to get our prosecco topped up. The restaurant itself has a nice atmosphere and some of the bigger tables are really nicely decorated. However the food was a let down and we would not have paid full price.

Stepping into the place one is assailed by the hubbub, the fabulous lighting and waiters rushing around gracefully.in spite of the throng of people coming in, there seemed to be just about enough staff to shepherd people from bar to tables. We did the Bookatable £25 deal which included 'free-flowing Prosecco'. We were expecting an amazing deal and we were not disappointed. Once our lovely server Noemi had sorted out a cockup by the reservations staff (they couldn't find that I had booked the deal) she brought us the first of a steady stream of poutings of a very nice Prosecco in a lovely bottle. We chose six smallish dishes to share, from a misto di mare, via an amazing truffle risotto and stone bass, to a calves liver dish. All were delicious and we had easily enough food. I was the thirsty one (hmm) and Noemi kept pace easily and was extremely charming throughout our evening, politely advising us after two hours that 'we are now about to pour your final Prosecco' i.e., it's time to ask for the bill. We found the place full of people dressed in cocktail black. Everyone was in high spirits, proving that wednesday is the new thursday. Clever of Cucina Asellina to make this Bookatable deal on a wednesday to encourage people to extend their celebratory week! We had a blast. It's far too loud but, if we are all in the same boat and we have loud voices, it doesn't matter!!!!!!!!! Made me feel much younger... and thank you Noemi

We were a party of four on a Saturday night, very modern styling, an open kitchen which is always nice to see, a combination of efficient and friendly staff. The approach is not for separate starters and then the main course, but more of things arrive together - tapas style. Dishes are perhaps smaller than usual but the quality was good and for me the beef carpaccio was the absolute highlight of the meal. The only reason it's four points rather than five is that the desert of tiramisu was let down by there being no apparent taste of Marsala which kind of spoiled it. Otherwise a recommendation.

My partner and I had pre-booked a few weeks in advance for the free flowing prosecco/3 course meal offer, which sounded great. We arrived at the restaurant standing behind a gentleman and his wife who were arguing with the manager saying that they were going to sue, over what I'm not sure, needless to say we were starting to feel a little uncomfortable. We were then taken to our seats, on the way I nearly slipped and fell on a puddle of water in the middle of the restaurant, staff were running around chaotically and talking amongst each other, again...not a great impression. We finally sat down and waited at least 10 minutes before we even got noticed by a waiter who explained the offer to us, that was the last time we were attended to. After waiting and waiting for someone to take our order or give us a drink we were getting fed up. A group of ladies sitting next to us told us that it wasn't worth it and that it was a better idea to just leave as they had such an awful experience, at which point a waitress came up to us and told the woman to not talk to us! Overall, we must have been there for over 30 minutes and weren't even given a glass of water, horrendous staff in a restaurant that is clearly struggling to stay afloat in such a prime location. Nice decor, but this place is clearly on its last legs, we had a much better experience somewhere else.
