My 34 week pregnant wife went to sit with our 2 year old for 5 minutes on the chairs outside the oyster bar while I was buying a coffee (they were all empty). The rude staff came along and moved her on, leaving her leaning of a pram in floods of tears. Any half decent establishment would have checked that she was ok, not hoofed her off a chair. Apparently they did the same to an elderly lady who was resting too. Absolutely disgusting and inconsiderate treatment from the oyster bar staff.

Stumbled upon this open air seafood bar at the market. Every dish was beautiful and cooked to perfection (the scallops were genuinely the best I've eaten). Bring your own wine (or head to 'Joseph Barnes Wines' round the corner for a discount if you mention where you're eating). Crystal Waters is run by people who clearly know their product, really friendly....and did I mention the scallops?! Do not miss out, six stars!

We had the most incredible lunch in the stall today, Dan. It was absolutely outstanding. Been to a fair few eateries this past few weeks.... some rustic.... one newly opened and over £100 EACH!!!!! None of which compared to the stunning food you cooked today. Fresh, top quality and beautifully cooked 👌👌👌👌👌👊👊👊 Scallops were absolutely delicious. The mussels were some of the best I’ve ever eaten as were the prawn skewers. Stunning stunning stunning ...

This seafood bar is worth sitting outside in end of November temperatures of 4 degrees to enjoy the magnificent seafood. It is that good. The smoked fish flatter is to die for, while the prawns on toast and the oysters were the highlight of the day for the whole party. My only moan is that the service wasn't quite as good on this visit. While there was nothing to complain about, there was no evidence of the friendly service that I have written about in the past. Even so, Crystal Waters is still one of the best places to eat in the country, bar none.

To confirm the previous review this market stall in Saffron Walden (Saturdays only I assume) is a gem. Seafood platter for two (£15) and a couple of cans of Ghost Ship (£3) from the nearby Adnams shop made for a delightful lunch. The rest of the small menu looked good too.

This is one of the best seafood restaurants in the UK. Have eaten seafood everywhere from the Mersea island Company Shed to the Tokyo Fish market and this is as special as any of them. The seafood is superb quality. And the ambiance in the Saffron Walden Market Square is amazing - its just like being on holiday in France without the airport hassle. Let's be clear, this is a market stall with half a dozen tables (you can also sit at the bar on the stall itself). But somehow it is just so special. (Please note - I have no connection with the stall). On this visit I had the smoked seafood platter for two (£15) with the highlight being some top end dry smoked salmon. We also enjoyed a small salt and pepper squid dish (£5) while my wife just loved the giant prawns (£12.50) and the amazing Mersea Island oysters. A generous and exception seafood lunch for just £40 - it seems unreal in 2018. This is just food heaven. If this place was in London, reviewers and the press would be raving about it. Thankfully, at the moment, its a hidden gem. I hope despite my review it stays that way. David's three helpful tip; * The stall doesn't sell wine but allows you to drink your own. (They provide glasses). There is a great Adnams wine shop at 1 Market Street who keep good white wine in the chiller * We park in the Swan Meadow car park - £2 for 4 hours and 5 minutes walk away * The seafood bar isn't' there during the winter * There are some great stalls on the surrounding market - the coffee bean and cheese stalls are exceptional and make the whole trip worthwhile.

It is a nice little place for seafood. We've been looking for a place like this around here where you can have hot food and where you can pick up fresh cold seafood as well (there's one in Ongar but t
