I started coming here, 3 months ago, and liked what Alex was trying to do, I even offered to hand out leaflets to promote it. Once I'd given 500 out, he banned me from the cafe. The staff here are lovely, as are the chefs, but the problem is Alex, the owner. If this is a community cafe, I'm Father Christmas, a white community cafe, maybe. I was the only non white person in this cafe in 3 months, eating in. Eating out, maybe a handful. I'd had complaints, according to Alex, but wouldn't explain the complaints. I've done body language courses, and Alex was clearly embellishing the truth. Discrimination, whichever sort is definite. I'll let you decide. I personally wouldn't want to go into a discriminatory café. Fortunately plenty of decent cafes in Brighouse.

We chose to support a small independent business rather than a chain but soon regretted our decision. The two almond croissants were so stale that after one bite I took them both back and asked for a refund. They were inedible and should have been thrown away. I was given a refund and an apology. Times are hard for small businesses but you cannot take hard earned cash from customers for sub-standard food that belongs in the bin

Just had lunch at the Crust and Crumb Alex did me a hot sandwich in the wood fired oven and put his own twist on it got to say it was amazing very highly recommended

Popped in to Crust and Crumb just by chance and had the best sandwiches- made by Alex himself using the wood fired oven. Amazing. The coffee was lovely too.

Absolutely amazing place- everything excellent. Only popped in for quick sandwich before our daughter's bday party, ended up having pizzas, salmon bagel, and a wonderful doughnut! The owner is really friendly and generous,and the quality of the fresh baked bread is self evident. Vegan pizza was loaded with veggies like artichokes and olives, salmon bagel spot on. We'll be back many times and telling friends. Busy but that's a good sign! The young staff are all friendly and helpful, this place is a real blessing for Brighouse. Thank you

48 Southgate, EllandCooper Kitchen & Bar is a Hidden Gem. Nestled in the heart of Elland, Cooper Kitchen & Bar offers a great dining experience that rivals those found in larger cities. The highlight is their tapas deal which is six dishes for £40, a must try for food enthusiasts. The stand out dishes are Gambas, succulent prawns cooked well, bursting with flavor. The crisp Pork Belly is a blend of sweetness and savoriness, complemented by it's Asian inspired flavours. The ever changing specials menu ensures there's always something new and exciting to try. (Or just ask the chefs to feed you, I guarantee there will be no disappointment). The venue boasts a clean and beautifully presented bar area downstairs but can be confusing at first as the restaurant is on the second floor. The front of house staff are friendly and welcoming with a good standard of service. However, to maintain the high standards set by the kitchen, it's essential to support the front of house team, as in my opinion needs more staff working on shift. While the current staff are fantastic and attentive, additional support would ensure that service remains seamless and menus stay pristine, enhancing the overall dining experience. While some may overlook Elland as a dining destination, Cooper Kitchen & Bar proves that great food doesn't require a central city location or price. Its charm and quality offerings make it a hidden gem worth discovering. Whether you're a local or planning a visit, Cooper Kitchen & Bar in Elland is a culinary destination that deserves attention. With its exceptional tapas deals ,tasting evenings and standout dishes like Gambas, pork Belly, bravas and large plates, it's a place where flavor meets value. Again the front of house needs looking into, as even on quiet nights they are too over stretched to deliver a high quality of service that coopers require. I will be back to sample more delicious small plates.
